My brother's family visited last weekend. One conversation was his department needed to hire IT engineers. He's the hiring manager. He received 400 job applications. There are job openings in good economic times. There are job openings in bad economic times. Some companies earn high profits in good economic times. Some companies earn high profits in bad economic times. The economy is in a recession. I digress.
I didn't tell my brother the truth on today's job market. The job market was tough pre-pandemic. The job market is tough today. The news headlines saying the strong job market is misleading. The government changes the criteria for evaluating the unemployment rate, number of jobless claims, and number of job openings. There are more people unemployed. The number of available job candidates increase in May and Jun because of school and college graduations every year.
Furthermore, I didn't tell my brother people apply to jobs they're qualified at a minimum 50% of the job description. Most job description include irrelevant statements. Most job descriptions overstate the requirements. It's rare the perfect candidate matching 100% of the job description exists. If they don't apply, then they guarantee no chance of an interview.
Keeping quiet for which no need to tell the other person or people the information can be a good choice. Ignorance is bliss.
