2022 Year In Review

The six nominations and its explanations for the moment of the year.

1. A Brief History Of Time by Stephen Hawking. I learned more than science reading the book. I learned life.

2. Gilroy Gardens. My first outdoor activity at the small family amusement park since the start of the global COVID-19 pandemic in Mar 2020. I wore my mask except eating.

3. Job training. Excel, Python, R and R-Studio, Linux, Power BI, SQL, and more. Progress continues learning and preparing for the next opportunity regardless of the economic status. Five days of training per week plus one day for life skills training.

4. Physical fitness. My longest daily jog is 5.0 miles. I created a fourth workout plan for my mini home gym.

5. Wallstreet Bets. I learned more about Wall Street and financial investments in 2022 than in the past decades and the classes when I was a student at San Jose State University and De Anza College. I exercised a call option for the first time.

6. Video Games. I completed my third Final Fantasy video game which is FFVIII and Call Of Duty: World At War.

Explanation: Steve Jobs' biography by Walter Isaacson won in 2016. Stephen Hawking can win in 2022. Forget Gilroy Gardens and video games. Too small. Too trivial. Moreover, no psychological victory at Gilroy Gardens. Another solid recognition to job training because I was consistent and productive. Unfortunately, a left rear knee injury in Nov and Dec prevented a win for physical fitness. I continue researching to prevent future injuries as of today. Wallstreet Bets continues my attention since Jan 2021. Financial education is part of my life skills training.

What Won: Wallstreet Bets.

What Should Have Won: Wallstreet Bets.

My Thoughts On The Winning Moment: The same thoughts in 2021 applies to 2022. No brainer. All the financial education I learned in college was a joke. Regardless, all investors including professionals and amateurs must learn the basics. Thank you Google, Reddit, Yahoo Finance, and YouTube for providing sources to learn deeper.

2022 Letter Grade: B. 2022 year started fantastic. There were plenty of little things. Add up the little things for something big. The flow ended in Apr. The simple words describe 2022: boring, solid, productive, safe, and quiet. The COVID-19 global pandemic survival mentality continues.

Past Moments Of The Years And Its Letter Grades

2021: Wallstreet Bets. Grade B.
2020: First responders, doctors, nurses, and hospital staff. Grade B.
2019: Consistent gym workouts. Grade C+.
2018: Consistent gym workouts. Grade C-.
2017: O'Connor Hospital. Grade D.
2016: Steve Jobs' biography by Walter Isaacson. Grade F.
2015: Zion National Park. Grade A.
2014: Palo Alto Networks. Grade C.

The System Works

People who have shelter, income, friends and/or families, employment, reading skills, ability to learn, love, a mattress, access to bare necessities, good health, clothes, phone, internet, and food the system works. I explain differently. People who have an education, a job, a home, food, bare necessities, transportation, and health the system works. Get an education such as high school, vocational, college, and/or specialized training. Find a job after graduation. Find a spouse till death do us part. Rent an apartment or buy a house. Raise a family. The parents provide guidance, nurturing, bare necessities, clothes, food, and shelter for the entire family. The system works.

People who benefit from the system needs faith. People who follow the system needs favorable timing. People who succeed from the system needs good luck. People who model the system needs assistance. The system chooses these people. Life selects these people. Trust intuition, make good choices, destiny, karma, good fortunes, and favorable outcomes are part of the reasons the system flow with these people. An Act of God favors these people.

Nobody is perfect. Nothing is perfect. There are cracks. There are pitfalls. There are dead ends. There are loopholes. The people who benefit from the system must never take the system for granted. Otherwise, these people are at the other end of the system being screwed.

The bottom line is if the system didn't work, then the world is chaos.

Update On A Past Blog

I rarely lose items in my possession outside the residence. Unfortunately, the rare occurrence happened on Fri Mar 10, 2023. I lost a gift certificate. It was inside my jacket pocket because of rainy weather. I hold important papers on my hand by habit most of the time. One reason is my poor short-term memory. If the papers are out of sight, chances are high the papers are out of my mind. The rare occurrence reminded me Always Protect Your Precious Belongings written on Aug 12, 2005. I lost an Edward Elric keychain from the anime series Fullmetal Alchemist. I was lucky a family found the keychain.

Some People Don't Change

Today I said the title for the first time in my life. I said, "Some people don't change" for the first time in my life. I can't explain why. I don't have a reason. Perhaps, I'm too optimistic people can change for the better. Perhaps, I'm too naive there is good in people they can change for the better. I'm not talking about people changing due to unfortunate circumstances such as a car accident, death in a family, a natural disaster, or a lawsuit. I'm not talking about people changing outside their control such as a heart attack, an end of a relationship, a job loss, or a rejection. I'm talking a person with personal problems affecting daily life.

The person himself or herself makes the choice to change. Nobody can convince the other person to change. Why do some alcoholics remain alcoholics? Why do some drug addicts remain drug addicts? Why do some unemployed remain unemployed for which they don't job search? Why do lazy people remain lazy? Why do some abusers remain abusers? Why does a person refuse to change? My guesses are weakness, cowardice, denial, poor self-esteem, lack of motivation, no support, not follow the rules, despair, and/or money problems. Another guess is some people are changing for which they go nowhere. Life somehow moves these people backwards beyond their control resulting in quitting. Change is impossible. Life is over.

Update On A Past Blog

There was a day I felt no change in my life after I realized I must grow up on Sat Oct 4, 2008. I wrote Change Says No To Raymond Mar on Oct 18, 2017. I was still unemployed and living with my parents like the loser George Costanza from Seinfeld. No freedom was the reason change said no.

On the other hand, I wrote blogs I changed. These blogs were not the life changing freedom I desire. Some of the blogs are the following: Top Ten Daily Changes After O'Connor Hospital on Oct 21, 2017 after my two surgeries in Apr 2017, Top Ten Little Changes Since Oct 2013 on Jun 27, 2019 small changes making a big impact, The Correction To The Correct Growing Up Part 2 on Oct 7, 2020 reminding and updating I grew up on Sat Oct 4, 2008 and taking back the second time I grew up on Dec 2012, and Top Ten I Get It Now on Nov 21, 2020 past wisdom and knowledge I fully understand such as the late Steve Jobs "stay hungry, stay foolish", The Shawshank Redemption "geology is the study of pressure and time", Good Will Hunting "it's not your fault", and desire is more important than knowledge.

Innovating Common Knowledge Blog Posts Labels Count

Addendum Thur Mar 16, 2023: I added the Date First Appeared column when the label first appeared on a blog. The latest labels were added in 2021 Commenting Today on Mar 23 and Jerk on Nov 28.

Here are two tables of all the blogs with labels. The blogs are dated from Dec 26, 2006 to Mar 12, 2023. 1,484 blogs. 15,102 labels. I excluded blogs with labels before Dec 26, 2006 because I added the labels when I posted Throwback Blogs. The rank number is the same for labels with the same count number.

The labels with counts above 100 and labels with counts between 50 and 99. I play the Apples To Applies card game card for the labels ranked from 1 to 13: To self-improve, mistakes must be made in life to gain wisdom; We learn by making honest changes; Do the little things because they sometimes create good ideas; Feeling frustrated? Keep moving forward and stay active; A happy life is the end result. I'm surprised the high number 150 for the Update Past Blog label. My first update on a past blog was SOMT: A Few Malls Still Exists Today on Mar 24, 2018. The update was I wanted to add Fast Times At Ridgemont High to the Top Ten Movies I Watched Late on Mar 1, 2014.

Nobody Is A Saint

I don't need to tell the reader you're not perfect. However, if nobody told you or you forgot, then I remind you. You're not perfect. You have weaknesses. You made mistakes in the past, make mistakes in the present, and commit mistakes in the future. Some mistakes are committed through no fault of your own. Everyone has a part of their past haunted.

You have problems. I have problems. I wrote You Have Problems? So Do I on Oct 8, 2016. You had problems in the past, problems clear and present, and future problems coming soon. Some problems are your fault. Some problems are not your fault.

We're inconsistent. Admit it. Exceptions are always made. You make a choice at the present time and the present place. You made a different choice in the past time and the past place. You can make another choice in the future time and the future place. You change. You change your mind. There is no equality. There are bumps going up and bumps going down along a straight line.

There is a chance something positive happens making you stronger, correcting a mistake, solving a problem, and choosing wisely. There is a chance something negative happens making you weaker, committing a mistake, causing a problem, and choosing unwisely. You change. You change your mind.

Too Much Too Tired

You're tired at the end of the day. Perhaps, you're too tired--it's fatigue. It's not your fault. Today's fast pace Information Age is a reason. Today's more to do Information Age is a reason. More is required compared to past generations. Parents are doing more. Students are doing more. First responders are doing more. Engineers are doing more. C-level executives are doing more. Professional athletes are doing more. Further, there are too much tv shows, movies, podcasts, books, and music. The big salaries are earned for people who succeed doing more. A rising tide raises all boats. Planet Earth needs to lower the tide. Humanity gets tired faster.

Crystal Reports Yes? I'm Hired

I worked as a Business Analyst contractor at Cisco for my third job after graduating at San Jose State. The first question the hiring manager asked me was, "Do you know Crystal Reports?" I said, "Yes." The rest of the interview was formality questions and answers. Today's Business Analyst must know programming, business intelligence, enterprise software, a database programming language such as SQL, and Salesforce. Some positions require the software development life cycle, supply chain experience, and data science expertise.

A life guarantee is 24 hours a day. There are seven days a week. Tough choices must be made what a person can do and what a person can't do. Touch choices must be made to eliminate some of the too much. Tough choices must be made to slow down if necessary. There are no correct choices. There are no incorrect choices. Regardless, make strong choices. Make good choices. Hope for the best.

Shelter In-Place COVID-19 Blog February 2023

California issued shelter in-place orders on Tue Mar 17, 2020. I have been logging the highlights and lowlights. Strong winter rains continued. Snow fell as low as 1,500 feet. Five people I know in total disclosed they tested positive for COVID-19 a second time. Feb 28 was the last day California was in a pandemic state of emergency.

Wed Feb 1. The Santa Clara County closes its mass COVID-19 vaccination and testing site on Feb 25. The high vaccination rate and the low number of positive cases are part of the reasons. Also, it's easy for people to get home testing kits. Health providers provide testing kits and vaccinations for their patients.

Fri Feb 3. CA schools are not requiring students to be vaccinated.

Sat Feb 4. The US government stops purchasing COVID-19 vaccines at a reduced price for the country. People are responsible to pay for the vaccines insured or uninsured. There is no exact date the government stops providing free vaccines. People with insurance pays zero cost for vaccines because of the Affordable Care Act. Heath insurance is required to cover all immunizations recommended by the Center For Disease Control (CDC) by law. People without insurance may pay for their vaccines when the vaccines purchased by the federal government runs out; however, there is a federal program to provide free vaccines to children for parents who can't afford the vaccine shots.

Tue Feb 14. The House Oversight Committee and the Subcommittee on the Coronavirus Pandemic investigate the origins of COVID-19. Letters are sent to Dr. Anthony Fauci, National Intelligence Directory Avril Haines, Secretary Of Health And Human Services Xavier Beccera, and more for documents and testimony. Multiple possibilities for the COVID-19 origin are China Wuhan Institute Of Virology developing a bioweapon, an accidental lab leak the virus, or a transmission from a live animal to a human in a market in Wuhan, China.

Fri Feb 17. Returned a pair of running shoes at a Nike Factory Outlet store.

A research paper published in The Lancet said immunity is acquired from a COVID-19 infection. The immunity protection is on par with two doses of a mRNA vaccine. The risk of hospitalization and death from a COVID reinfection are reduced by 88% for at least 10 months. Experts prefer people receive the vaccination shot for immunity. Omicron subvariants in late fall 2021 and early winter 2022 were excluded in the study.

Sun Feb 19. An early morning quick shopping to Safeway to purchase ketchup.

Mon Feb 20. The CDC added the COVID-19 vaccine to the child and adolescent immunization schedule. Children between the ages of six months and 18 years receive two doses of the primary series between four and eight weeks apart and a booster at least eight weeks later. Immunocompromised children and adolescents receive a third dose of the primary series. The CDC stressed it's a recommendation and not a requirement. School vaccination requirements are determined by state and local laws.
