Throwback Blog: SOMT: Kodak Declares Bankruptcy

Blogger’s Note: Throwback blogs are blogs from my past. I start posting past blogs reflecting what I wrote. It's like my "A Second Look" blogs for which I give myself feedback.

Today's throwback blog is titled SOMT: Kodak Declares Bankruptcy in Jan 2012. Toys R Us declared bankruptcy on Sep 19, 2017. There is truth the better companies Amazon and Wal-Mart ruined Toys R Us. The deeper truth is mismanagement. I know somebody who knew a manager who worked at Borders. The manger told her the top reason Borders went bankrupt was mismanagement. The economy changes. Business practices change. Time changes anything. Companies stay in business as long as they can. Companies don't last forever. Good management keeps companies in business as long as they can.

Blogger’s Note: SOMT stands for Sign Of My Times, an occasional blog sharing my thoughts how time changes life from when I was young to today.

CNBC reported the 131 year old company Eastman Kodak declared bankruptcy. The company has no cash to continue operations, and bankruptcy provides the company with protection to survive. Kodak is shifting their business plan to printers for home and commercial use.

My dad was a good amateur photographer. He took family pictures when my siblings and I were young. He developed and printed black & white pictures from college to his young parenting years. I remember shopping at LZ Premiums, a local ma & pa discount photo store that sells photography equipment, film, development services, and photo developing equipment. LZ Premiums expanded their store selling televisions and renting VHS movies in the mid 1980s. I’m guessing the store expanded because of competition from bigger stores selling photography equipment and services such as Circuit City and a small chain of camera and video stores known today as Wolf Camera. LZ Premiums went out of business.

I took black & white photography in 1991 while I in 11th grade. I used one of my dad’s Nikon cameras to take pictures for my assignments. I purchased my first film camera in Dec 2002. Digital cameras were too expensive for me. The first time I held a digital camera was on July 2000. A friend owned a Casio digital camera that used 3.5 inch floppy disks.

I purchased my first digital camera in July 2003. The first pics I took with my Olympus were our family vacation in Los Angeles, San Diego, Las Vegas, and the Grand Canyon. I purchased my second digital camera in May 2004. It was the Canon Powershot A75. The A75 was a rock I dropped it so many times. I took many pictures at anime conventions and my vacations in 2004-2005.

Digital cameras and photography are everywhere. Cell phones can take pictures. People can take as many pictures as they want—even an ant on the sidewalk. There is no need to be picky taking pictures with film. I started my digital photography with point & shoot cameras. I use a SLR today. I consider myself an amateur below my dad’s skills. Regardless, anyone can take good pictures with today’s digital cameras.

Stubborn Is Another Bad S Word

Going back to Kodak, the company was stubborn to enter the digital market. It stayed in the film business years after digital photography started becoming mainstream. Kodak lost money staying in the film photography. They were too late entering the digital market.

George Eastman founded Kodak from his photography hobby. He found ways to make photography easy for common people including the photography paper and easily transporting camera film. Eastman debuted Kodachrome film in 1935.

Life Goes On

My dad and I got last minute tickets for Thursday Night Football San Francisco 49ers vs. Los Angeles Rams on Thur Sep 21, 2017. We rode public transportation to avoid parking at Levi's Stadium. Today's blog is inspired on our way to the football game.

All variants of today's blog title are true. Life moves forward. The sun rises the next day. There is a future. Tomorrow is another day. Anything that happens today good and bad anything happens tomorrow good and bad.

The 49ers are one of worse teams entering the 2017 NFL season. The 49ers must play football even though football analysts project a losing record. 49ers fans watched the football game in the less than half occupied stadium. There were stadium workers, football players, coaches, security, TV personnel, and sponsors. Incomes were earned. Revenues were generated. The football game is in the schedule. The game must be played regardless of how many people attended the stadium, how many people watched the game on TV, and how many people listened to the game on radio. The 49ers are 0-3 as of today's blog.

Good moments, good events, bad moments, and bad events happen every day, every hour, and every minute. The recent natural disasters Hurricane Harvey in Texas, Hurricane Irma in Florida, Hurricane Maria in Puerto Rico and Virgin Islands, and the earthquake in Mexico. There is trash talk between President Donald Trump and North Korea Supreme Leader Kim Jong-un. There are newsworthy successes such as a business going public, a sports team winning a championship, and a hero rescue. Everyone has personal problems. Every common human being has problems. Medical problems. Relationship problems. Professional problems. Unemployment. Car accidents. Everyone has personal happy moments. Marriages. Buying a car. Buying a home. Job promotion. Graduation. Learning new skills. Vacations. Freedom.

I thought about life goes on while the light rail train transports my dad and I to Levi's Stadium. I see the tech buildings, manufacturing factories, and apartments along the way. Life is unfair. Life goes on. We continue living. Perhaps living life is a strength itself. Never give up. We do our best to live. We hope to get the big break. We hope to discover the one moment to change our lives. We have grit. Life goes on whether life is good and life is bad.

You And I Are Weird

Agree with me 100% being weird. You're weird. I'm weird. Everyone is weird. Every human being is weird. Think carefully. There is something weird. Weirdness is subjective. Some people tolerate some weirdness. Some people reject some weirdness. Friends and family accept weirdness from their inner circles of friends and family. Weirdness makes each human unique.

I take pictures of police cars. It's weird. I believe 95% of the human population agrees. Another weirdness is I wear pajamas inside the house. I want to be comfortable. I believe 50% of the human population agrees. I sleep half naked every time I sleep. I believe 85% of the human population agrees. There are medical research sleeping partially or fully naked improves a human's immune system.

A Little Craziness

Weird and craziness can be together. I spend $200 on a pair of sunglasses for which I could have purchased a $15 pair of sunglasses both providing adequate protection for my eyes. I buy gas at Chevron. No Costco, Arco, Rotten Robbie, and no name brand gas goes inside my Toyota Camry. Many people including experts say gas is gas.

There are people who regularly sleep six hours a night. There are people who regularly sleep four hours a night. How can these people function during their waking hours? Maybe these people are too excited for everything. Maybe these people are too focused on something. They're too alert. Overwhelmed. I believe everyone has experienced the excitement and focus some nights we sleep a low amount of hours. Personally speaking, if I'm in a first time new adventure or first time new experience, then I'm excited, focused, and overwhelmed. My brain is too stimulated learning and thinking. I break down everything I observe as fast as the speed of light silently.

Finally, there is a difference between being weird and being immature. There is also a difference between being weird and behaving childish as an adult. It's okay being weird. It's okay being a little crazy. There are people who live a life dominated by their own weirdness. These people are immature. These people must grow up. Mature people control their weirdness. Mature people make the correct choices to turn on being a mature adult and turn off being a weird adult at the moment. Similarly, behaving childish as an adult is not weird. Daily childish behavior is unacceptable to live an independent life. I fail to understand some independent people behaving childish. They must have few friends and family in their lives. I anticipate many problems as these childish people continue living their present lives in their 50s and older. I hope through self-discovery the immature people and childish people grow up. The self-discovery hopefully happens sooner because these people have more time to correct their mistakes.

When Is An Adult An Adult?

Today's question is when is an adult an adult? When the person is no longer a teenager? Age 18? Age 21? Age 16 in some areas of the world? Age is just a number. Some people are adults when they're 30 years old. Some people are adults when they're at least 40 years old. Some people are late bloomers who realize childhood life is over.

Is an adult an adult when the person is independent? The person moves out living on his or her own. There are some people who are at least 21 years old living with their parents. The reasons are valid such as financial, helping raise children, and can't find residence close to their employment. More people in their 20s and 30s are living with their parents in the Northern California Bay Area. The Bay Area becomes New York in time. Moreover, there are people living on their own behaving like a jerk. Are jerks adults? On the other hand, there are people living with their parents who are kind. There are good people who are down on their luck with no job they must live with their parents.

Are adults responsible? Are adults strong? Are adults courageous? Are adults intelligent? Do adults earn their successes? Some of these attributes are subjective. What is the scale of intelligence for an adult to be intelligent? What about physical fitness? Some people eat too much. Some people lack physical fitness. What about emotions? Some people have a closed personality they keep their emotions to themselves. What about financial? Some people are in debt. Does debt mean poor spending habits? What about spirituality? Some people practice religion. Some people have no religion.

Do adults take care of themselves? Who is a person who fails to take care of their needs? Is he or she an adult? Who do you call people abusing their bodies such as drugs and alcohol? Who do you call people irresponsible for themselves? Are these people adults who watch too much TV or spend little time making their lives better? You reap what you sow.

There are some people who take life for granted. Do adults put in the effort to live a good life? Or do adults rely too much on good luck, good fortunes, and good timing for their life highlights? Life itself determines what happens soon. Fate, destiny, and karma guide these people their futures.

Is an adult an adult who feels sorry for himself or herself? Is an adult an adult who stops caring about his or her world and the world outside? Forget life. Life is too hard. The adult takes the easy route. On the other hand, is an adult an adult who cares too much for others neglecting his or her own needs? It may be a sign of weak self-esteem. It may be a sign of loneliness needing to please other people to meet new people.

It's a judgment call. It's everyone's own opinion when is an adult an adult. Personally speaking, I know smart, kind, and strong adults living with their parents who can't afford living independently. I know adults living independently who are jerks, rude, and mean. I became an adult on Sat Oct 4, 2008. I realized I must grow up. Time will tell everything I'm doing today to live independently tomorrow is successful. I'm learning new job skills, reviewing existing job skills, staying physically fit, minimizing eating processed foods, and sleeping eight hours a day. I pace myself with leisure reading books, listening to music, and watching movies. I'm getting stronger. I'm getting smarter. My self-esteem is getting better. A little luck and good timing follow me. I hope for the best.

Higher Priority Job Hiring And Higher Weight Job Hiring

The old days a job candidate's desire, motivation, learning attitude, good communication skills, and friendliness were top qualities. They were the highest priorities. They weigh more. A job candidate's recent experience and relevant knowledge are top qualities today. The job hiring system today values the old days' qualities at the lower priority. The old days' qualities weigh less. Discrimination? My answer is yes. Discrimination has been happening for decades.

Moreover, managers and senior workers who "don't have time to train" prefer new hires with recent experience and relevant knowledge. What about your children when they're job searching after completing their education? Most of they can't find jobs because they don't have recent experience and relevant knowledge. Their potential managers and senior workers "don't have time to train." Managers and senior workers better train your children to avoid being discriminated like you're doing to job candidates who need a break.

I understand a common life quote "what goes around comes around." I also understand better some long-term unemployed quit job searching. Artificial Intelligence eliminates more jobs as time moves forward, anyways.

The job search system must be blamed. The job hiring process must be blamed. Some recruiters calling prospective candidates either don't read their resumes or don't understand their resumes content. They see key words on their resumes. They call the candidates or they email spam the candidates. Sometimes the calls or emails spam job openings are out of their metropolitan area. These recruiters are outside the United States almost all of the time.

It's very rare to find the 100% perfect job candidate. Most hiring managers believe their dreams come true. I see job openings. Time passes. I see the same job openings again as if the hiring manger rejected all of the potential job candidates. It happens to me when I reach the interview stage. Blame the system. Blame the process.

Instant Bullets Blog Sep 9, 2017

*Too much criticizing? Too much condemning? Too much complaining? If the answer is yes to any of the three questions, then you're stressed out. Also, you have low self-esteem. Get stronger. Get braver. Get more sleep. Eat healthy. Minimize eating processed foods. They're true.

*"Winning is only important in war and surgery." --Al McGuire, hall of fame division-1 basketball coach and analyst (1928-2001)

*First Class postage at the United States Post Office (USPS). First Class postage is purchased at the post office only. First Class postage is unavailable at usps.com. The USPS needs post office jobs.

*Love Me Like You Do by Ellie Goulding. Click link for official video. Click link for a live version BBC Radio 1's Big Weekend 2016 Live at Powderham Castle, Exeter, UK. No Fifty Shades Of Grey sex scenes in the live version. Fifty Shades of Grey movie is crap. However, couples can learn intimacy knowledge.

*Child sex education. There are some parents who prepare their children in advance for reading, writing, and mathematics. Parents who want to prepare their children in advance for sex education may consider these books from Amazon: How Babies Are Made by Steven Schepp, It's Not the Stork! by Robie H. Harris, How a Baby is Made by Per Holm Kundsen, and What Makes A Baby by Cory Silverberg.

*Alice Sherman past away on July 2017. She was the wife of Bob Sherman who past away around May 2017. I wrote a blog on The Shermans.pess

*Today's problems we hear on the media are nothing new. These problems have been going on for decades. Some of the problems include racism, economic inequality, cancer, and divorce. They are the same old. Global warming is the newest problem which has been going on for decades, too. Donald Trump? He has been in the news for decades, too. We want new problems. We want fresh problems. Let's have aliens invade Earth. What's the worst problem? Your present personal problem or being lost in the woods?

*Humans Sustain Daily Life Commuting. The bullet was inspired when I helped a family friend completed home improvements on a weekday. There is no reverse commute on Interstate 880 which is one of the San Francisco Bay Area freeways. I observe freeway exits full of cars stretching out to the freeway exit only lane.

The worse is coming. Commutes are longer. Many cars on the freeways are from cities outside Silicon Valley. Homes are relatively cheaper at cities outside Silicon Valley. How long can people commuting long distances sustain the weekday work lifestyle? In particular, health-wise physically, mentally, and emotionally?

*Don't be a bad ass. An example I'm not being a bad ass is one of my personal projects. I'm reviewing database design. I'm not taking my top job skill for granted. I review to stay sharp.

*What was my best high school choice? The answer is taking geometry in summer school after my sophomore year.

Thought Provoking Information

You be the judge for some of the pics communicating information to provoke thinking. Agree or disagree? We’re humans. We think differently. Don’t pay $1 for a pregnancy kit at a thrifty store.
