End It Now

My dad and I went to my nephew's graduation from Cub Scouts to Boy Scouts on Feb 2018. My mom couldn't attend because she was sick. All local dens attended. The ceremony took place at an elementary school's multi-purpose room. The day and time were a weekday evening when the parents were out of work and their children were out of school. An outsider expected everyone to be happy on a childhood memory.

On the contrary, almost everyone wanted to go home. All of the parents were fatigued. All of the parents faked smiles and faked enthusiasm. The food provided were pizza, potato chips, candy, and soda. Poor food choices to keep people awake. Some parents must have thought, "Where's the coffee?" Most of the kids lost focus for which they frolic around. Some older Boy Scouts forgot their cues when accepting new Boy Scouts members. The event was rushed towards the end. The school custodians urged parents to speed up the ceremony at the 9pm mark.

I blamed nobody wanting to end it now. Tonight was a school night. Any unfinished homework must be completed. Dinner must be served. Pizza, potato chips, candy, and soda were not dinner. The parents prepared the children for bed. Some working parents might have unfinished assignments for work. All working parents lost sleep hours for the night; moreover, many working parents thought about work during the ceremony. Families made big adjustments for the night affecting tomorrow and the rest of the week. Welcome to today's rapid family lifestyle.
