I Didn't Get Sick On Thur Jan 8, 2026

I went shopping inside a mall to exchange a Christmas gift I didn't want. I exited the store I exchanged the gift. I walked inside the mall heading to the exit. A man walking towards me coughed multiple times without covering his mouth approximately three feet away. I detoured away from the man. I felt phlegm in my throat immediately. I swallowed multiple times. I wore two masks.

I felt mucus down my throat multiple times later in the day. I feared I got sick. I didn't panic. I drank a can of Coke for lunch and a can of Coke for dinner. I exercised at home with a limited workout due to a left tricep muscle injury. There was no point not doing any exercises. I was still healthy. I took advantage before I got sick.

Furthermore, the air was dry. The temperature range was the mid 60s and the upper 30s. My body is weak when my body adapts to a big temperature range.

I'm lucky. I woke up on Fri Jan 9 without a sore throat. No symptoms of a stomach flu. No symptoms of RSV. No symptoms of potential COVID-19. Maybe it was allergies. Maybe my body falsely overreacted. Maybe the COVID-19 vaccine prevented my sickness. I wear new masks as a precaution even though the masks I wore on Thur Jan 8 were in good condition.

Allergies And Coughs July 2024

I got sick in Jul 2024. The last time I got sick was in Apr 2022 Allergies And Coughs April 2022. I blog how I treated myself and the likely causes because I want to reference my treatment the next time I get sick. No panic. Obvious symptoms. Pain never severe. Slow and long recovery compared to the Apr 2022 which was quick.

Tue Jul 2, 2024. Irritating throat. Phlegm down my throat. Possible allergies. First day over 100 degrees in 2024. Turned on the residence air conditioning for the first time in 2024. Drank Coke for dinner.

Wed Jul 3. Took Zyrtec at midnight 12:00am. Minor runny nose. Light cough. White color phlegm. Appetite suppressed. Aches in my legs and calves. Lots of sleep. Slept with Breathe Right nasal strips.

Thur Jul 4. Took Zyrtec at 12:26am. Headaches. Light coughing. Yellow color phlegm. One nap. COVID-19 test negative.

I feared all the minor symptoms became worse in the upcoming days. Lower back pain. Poor appetite. I forced myself to eat.

Fri Jul 5. Took Zyrtec at 12:40am. Coughing woke me up at 5:20am. My stomach growling woke me up at 6:30am. Body sweated. I felt throwing up for which I didn't. Went back to sleep at 7:50am. I woke up at 10:50am. I made Jello.

I felt my sickness was the stomach flu without throwing up. My meals were Jello, bread, saltine crackers, and ginger ale. I questioned a stomach virus caused a loss of appetite. Throat felt sore when I swallowed only.

Sat Jul 6. Took Zyrtec at 1:00am. Best sleep of the week. No interruptions. Post nasal drip caused little coughing. Continued sleeping with Breathe Right nasal strips.

Sun Jul 7. Took Zyrtec at 1:55am. More coughing. More stomach aches. More pooping. White color phlegm. I felt worse.

I changed my meals plan. I ate small portions solid food starting at dinner. My initial plan was eat solid foods starting tomorrow. My mom suggested I stop drinking Canada Dry ginger ale. I accepted. I went back to Coke which was not expired. I immediately felt better.

Mon Jul 8. Took Zyrtec at 1:20am. Little coughing delayed my full sleep briefly. Ate more solid foods gradually. Chocolate soothed coughs since coughing started. White color phlegm. Lost five pounds from 160lbs to 155lbs.

Tue Jul 9. Took Zyrtec at 8:00am. Lots of coughing. Ate lots of chocolate. Coolest day of the month. Another heat wave started tomorrow.

Wed Jul 10. Took Zyrtec at 12:00pm. Coughing started after drinking Coke for dinner. No Coke tomorrow.

My right ear was sensitive when I dried my ears with Q-Tips. I wanted to cough.

Thur Jul 11. Took Zyrtec at 12:15pm. I lied. I drank Coke for dinner. No effect on coughing. No coughing for most of the day. I thought Coke from last night increased coughing. It was false. Recovery was faster as long as I sleep.

Fri Jul 12. Took Zyrtec at 1:15pm.

Sat Jul 13. Took Zyrtec at 1:15pm. Setback. I wasn't ready to stop taking Zyrtec. Weather was cooler and muggy. Post nasal drip intensified. More coughing. I brought back Coke for at least one meal a day.

Sun Jul 14. Took Zyrtec at 1:20pm. No improvements. My parents turned on the air conditioning even thought the temperatures were in the mid 80s. My body failed to adjust to the 80s weather. I continued drinking Coke and eating chocolate. Sleeps were good.

Mon Jul 15. I forgot to take Zyrtec in the afternoon. Worst night sleeping relatively speaking. I took a long time to fall asleep. I ate chocolate to fall asleep. No change in coughing.

I needed to move my body. I began modified workouts. I took Zyrtec at 11:00pm. I needed a Zyrtec for 30 minutes on the stationary cycle.

Tue Jul 16. Took Zyrtec at 11:00pm. I connected the dots backwards. Triple whammy. Triple sickness. I got Respiratory Syncytial Virus or RSV, stomach flu, and RSV for the second time afterwards. I couldn't get COVID-19 because my parents didn't get sick.

All three of the following continued. I drank Coke for lunch and dinner. I ate chocolate to soothe my coughs. I slept with Breathe Right nasal strips.

Wed Jul 17. Took Zyrtec at 11:00pm. I was sensitive to cold. I drink Coke for dinner only. I could change back to lunch and dinner. I needed chocolate to fall asleep.

Thur Jul 18. Took Zyrtec at 11:00pm. No Coke.

Fri Jul 19. No Zyrtec. White color phlegm. I ate chocolate to soothe my coughs and to relieve post nasal drip.

Mon Jul 22. No Zyrtec. White color phlegm. I ate chocolate to relieve post nasal drip.

Thur Jul 25. Popping my ears continued.

Sat Jul 27. Below average temperatures today. I was sensitive to the cooler weather. I needed more chocolate.

Wed Jul 31. Best sleep. No chocolate to fall asleep. No coughing.

Mon Aug 5. Began full workouts.

How Did I Get Sick?

The sickness could be titled as avoidable mistakes. I experienced stomach aches staring on Fri Jun 21, 2024. I could have drank more Coke. I could have not eaten too ripped pineapple. I could have avoided too much exercise; in other words, don't exercise more than the appropriate meals I ate to exercise safely. And I shouldn't drink expired sodas. Here are the possible causes:

Four mile jog became a five mile jog. I ate a poor lunch. My physical fitness wanted a four mile job. My emotions wanted a five mile jog. Sickness from fatigue. Probability: 80%.

Multiple days stomach aches. Did I get the stomach flu beforehand? Probability: 75%.

Slept with the desk fan on and windows fully open. I forgot to turn off the fan and forgot to close the windows before I went to sleep. I turned off the fan and closed the windows at the 7am hour. The error reminded me of the Jul 2000 sickness; however, the Jul 2000 summer weather was unseasonable cold. Probability: 60%.

Weather temperatures variance. My body is weak when I adjust from a big temperature change. Probability: 30%.

Family birthday gathering. There was a family gathering to celebrate my cousin's twin sons one year birthday on Jun 30, 2024. Weather was warm. I limited my meals because of my continued stomach aches. Was somebody else sick? Probability: 25%.

Dirty water pitchers. I didn't wash the water pitchers for months. Probability: 10%.

Shelter In-Place COVID-19 Blog January 2024

California issued shelter in-place orders on Tue Mar 17, 2020. I have been logging the highlights and lowlights. COVID-19 cases and flu cases surged. Headlines continued to increase. The 2024 year started out slow.

Mon Jan 1. Wastewater data showed high levels of flu, COVID-19, and Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV) in the Bay Area. The Santa Clara County Department Of Public Health data showed the third highest levels since 2021 for the City Of San Jose.

Wed Jan 3. Florida State Surgeon General Dr. Joseph Ladapo wanted healthcare providers to stop administering the COVID-19 mRNA vaccines. The reason was the Food And Drug Administration (FDA) didn't show evidence the mRNA vaccines can't cause cancer. Public health experts and federal officials dispute Ladapo's statement.

Thur Jan 4. Shopped at a Costco Business Center.

A study from the University Of California-San Francisco (UCSF) found patients who took the COVID-19 pill Paxlovid didn't significantly lower the risk of long COVID for vaccinated people. The outcomes were similar for patients taking Paxlovid and for patients not taking Paxlovid for long COVID symptoms. A COVID rebound was higher than expected for patients taking Paxlovid. Paxlovid is effective for the unvaccinated. UCSF reiterated Paxlovid is a good treatment to prevent COVID-19 for high risk people.

Fri Jan 5. The JN.1 variant accounted for 61.6% of COVID-19 cases according to the Center For Disease Control (CDC). The JN.1 is a descendant of the BA.2.86 variant. JN.1 represented 3.3% of the total cases in mid Nov 2023. Hospitalizations increased for the eighth consecutive week to levels as of Jan 2023. The CDC said either the JN.1 is more transmissible or better at evading the immune system. Experts said there is no evidence the JN.1 has different symptoms or causes more severe illness. The positivity levels in wastewater samples are higher compared to Jan 2023 in the US. 19.4% of adults received the updated vaccine as of today.

Sat Jan 6. An uncle, aunt, and a cousin tested positive for their first times.

Mon Jan 8. The CDC stated 38 states and New York City are experiencing high or very high levels of respiratory illness activity. These activities include flu, COVID-19, RSV, and the common cold.

Mon Jan 15. The Oakland Unified School District announced students and staff who tested positive for COVID-19 can attend class as long as they don't have any symptoms. These students must wear a mask while indoors. The five day isolation period for testing positive is removed. Wearing a mask is optional policy started on Apr 2022.

Wed Jan 17. The genetic sequence of SARS-CoV-2 which causes COVID-19 was submitted to the National Institutes Of Health database two weeks before the Chinese government released the genetic sequence. The submittal didn't indicate the origin of the coronavirus.

Virologist Dr. Lili Ren of the Institute Of Pathogen Biology at the Chinese Academy Of Medical Sciences & Peking Union Medical College submitted the genetic sequence to GenBank on Dec 28, 2019. GenBank is a public genetic sequence repository managed by the National Center For Biotechnology Information which is part of the US National Institutes Of Health. Ren's submission was incomplete. The submission was removed on Jan 17, 2020. Another submission was published on Jan 12, 2020 from GenBank.

China informed the world of SARS-CoV-2 on Jan 7, 2020. The outbreak started in Wuhan.

Wed Jan 17. The California Department Of Health released new guidance on people who tested positive for COVID-19. The isolation period is reduced from five days to one day. These people must be fever free for 24 hours. Wear a face mask when there are other people indoors for 10 days. Stop wearing a mask after two negative tests at least one day apart. Avoid high risk people for 10 days such as the elderly and weakened immune systems.

The CDC reported 21% of US adults and 8% of US children received the updated vaccine. The CDC also reported 24% of CA adults and 7% of CA children received the updated vaccine.

Fri Jan 19. The San Francisco Department Of Public Health closes its six community testing and vaccination sites on Feb 1, 2024. The reasons are budget constraints and fewer people getting vaccinated. The end of the COVID-19 emergency stopped funds to pay for the sites.

Tue Jan 23. Shopped at Costco at the 10am hour. It was dead inside.

Thur Jan 25. Shopped at Smart & Final Extra.

The CDC estimated 86% of COVID-19 cases are the JN.1 variant. Hospitalizations increased 200% for influenza, 51% for COVID-19, and 60% for RSV over the last month.

Fri Jan 26. UCLA researchers looked at 199 babies born between Apr 2020 and Aug 2022 to study the chances of babies experiencing respiratory distress. None of the babies tested positive for COVID-19. The odds of respiratory distress in babies born from unvaccinated mothers increased three times compared to vaccinated mothers.

Respiratory distress in infants is defined as difficulty breathing within 24 hours after birth. Also, pregnant women tested positive increases the chances of a premature birth or stillborn baby.

Fri Jan 27. The IRS told the Senate Finance Committee 95% of the employee retention tax credit were fraudulent. Congress created the program for businesses to keep workers during the COVID-19 pandemic. The initial cost was $55 billion. The cost was $275 billion as of July 2023. Congress is considering ending the program. A higher tax credit for low-income families replaces the employee retention tax credit.

Throwback Blog: Me Versus My Sinus Infection

Blogger's Note: Throwback blogs are blogs from my past. I start posting past blogs reflecting what I wrote. It's like my "A Second Look" blogs for which I give myself feedback.

Today's throwback blog is titled Me Versus My Sinus Infection written on Apr 3, 2011. I got Respiratory Syncytial Virus or RSV. The blog is my personal cautionary tale how I take care of myself when I'm sick. What do I do. What don't I do. Don't fight fatigue; take a nap. No NyQuil. No orange juice from concentrated. Yes to milk chocolate. No DayQuil. Yes to water; however, no eight glasses a day. No vitamin C tablets. No green tea. No cranberry juice. No pomegranate juice. Yes to Coke. Yes to fully cooked meals. No to saline solutions. No to codeine. No to Nasonex. No to chewing gum. Yes to sleep. No to Ricola. Yes to Chloraseptic throat lozenges. Yes to being calm.

Further, I minimize eating junk food. Eat healthy meals. Eat something when hungry; for example, Snickers candy bars are better than Pop Tarts.

I got a minor stomach flu after my RSV. I blogged Me Versus My Stomach Flu on Apr 14, 2011.

I wrote three more sinus infections blogs: Me Versus My Sinus Infection II on Sep 25, 2011, Me Versus My Sinus Infection III on Mar 11, 2012, and Me Versus My Sinus Infection IV on Dec 7, 2012.

The month of March I battled a sinus infection. I want to document the days I got infected and how I treated myself. I continue to fight my sinus infection as of the time I posted the blog. This sinus infection is one of the worse I can remember. I document the events by date:

February 2011. I experienced many days of fatigue. I took many naps in the afternoon. There were days I fought fatigue by avoiding afternoon naps or sleeping early and skipping homework.

Mon Feb 28 to Sat March 5. Sickness developed. I felt really tired on Sat Mar 5. I should have went home after an event in the afternoon. I took NyQuil and drank Whole Foods orange juice in the evening.

Fri Mar 4. Purchased Trader Joe’s orange juice and milk chocolate.

Sun Mar 6. Cough developed.

Mon Mar 7 to Fri Mar 11. Full sickness. I had trouble sleeping most of the week. I skipped my De Anza classes.

Mon Mar 7. Stopped taking NyQuil and DayQuil.

Tue Mar 8. Sickness got worse. I forgot to drink water. I applied Visine because I had red watery eyes.

Wed Mar 9. Took 1,000mg vitamin C, drank more coke, drank green tea, and drank 100% ocean spray cranberry/pomegranate juice once. I resumed drinking water. I applied Visine again because I had red watery eyes. I coughed mucus that included blood. The mucus cough went away at night time.

Thur Mar 10. Stopped drinking green tea. Drank more coke. Best night sleep of the week.

Fri Mar 11. Got worse. I got a bump below my right ear and above my jaw line. I researched online. Some websites stated my lymph node was swollen because it fought a foreign substance. My guess was I ate a piece of sausage partially cooked. The sausage looked cooked from the outside. I took a few bites and my bump appeared immediately. I made the choice to visit my doctor on Saturday. He has office hours in the morning all Saturdays except the last Saturday of the month.

Sat Mar 12. My doctor was closed on Saturday. I went to the San Jose Medical Center Urgent Care. The doctor diagnosed me I had a sinus infection. He prescribed me an anti-biotic. He also told me to take Mucinix D and use a saline solution.

I went to Costco to purchase my anti-biotic and a three pack of saline solution in aerosol cans.

Sat Mar 12 to Fri Mar 18. Significant improvement. I slept well all days. My cough was in control. I attended classes. I returned the saline solution to Costco because my second can failed to spray the solution up my nose. I used a squeeze bottle solution my dad had for a total of 5-7 times throughout the week. The last two times I used plain warm water.

Mon Mar 21. Post nasal drip acted up again. My guess was the cold temperatures when I was out of the house on Fri Mar 18 and Sun Mar 20 affected me. I was sensitive to the cold. I’m sensitive to hot weather when I’m healthy.

Tue Mar 22. I visited my primary care physician. He prescribed me five extra days of anti-biotic, codeine, and Nasonex. My doctor said the doctor at the urgent care center prescribed me a “powerful” anti-biotic. My doctor said sinus infection takes a long time to recover. I don’t have bronchitis.

I went to Costco to get codeine and Nasonex. I took codeine and Nasonex before I went to sleep. I went to sleep hours later.

Wed Mar 23. I chewed gum to help control my cough in the afternoon. The gum failed to control my cough when I went to bed. I started to drink warm water. I took codeine and Nasonex before I went to sleep. The cough was the worse when I was lying in bed trying to sleep.

Thur Mar 24. I stopped taking codeine. I continued Nasonex and drank warm water.

Fri Mar 25. I turned on the heater in the house to 62 degrees in the morning. I never turn on the heat in the mornings. I wore a heavier jacket and a scarf to keep warm when I’m outdoors.

Sat Mar 26. I stopped taking all medications. I started to drink Trader Joe’s hot cocoa. I continued drinking green tea and took 1,000mg of vitamin C.

Mon Mar 28. I went back to the gym for a light workout. I was still cold sensitive.

Tue Mar 29. I started my stretches before I workout at the gym. No gym, just stretches. I did 75 sit-ups.

Wed Mar 30. I slept late because I drank tea late. I coughed a lot; however, the coughing stopped immediately when I slept with blankets. I continued drinking warm water and Coke when I ate lunch and dinner.

Thur Mar 31. I stopped drinking Coke. Today was unseasonably warm. I was still cold sensitive such that the morning and the evening I wore long sleeve shirt and pants. I coughed when I wore short sleeve shirt and shorts. I went to the gym for a light workout. I coughed a little. I felt mucus dripping down my throat causing mild irritation. I was able to sleep regardless.

Fri Apr 1. I took 500mg of vitamin C instead of 1,000mg. Coughing and mucus dripping down my throat continued infrequently. Weather was unseasonably warm I brought warmer clothes in case I get cold when I’m out of the house.

Currently. Mild cough and mucus dripping down my throat continues infrequently. I have two or three major coughs lasting at least five seconds. The mucus drippings are good because mucus is moving the foreign substances away from my body. It’s treating me from my sinus infection. I can still sleep. I drink plenty of water. I maintain my thinking I’m cold sensitive.

Q&anp;A

I ask myself questions to understand and to prepare myself the next time I have a sinus infection.

What is Respiratory Syncytial Virus or RSV? I blogged RSV in March 2008. March 2008 was the last time I had to visit the doctor for a sinus infection. I heard about RSV in the news. Now that I think about it, I have RSV which is my sinus infection. My recovery took me weeks three years ago. The same is happening now. There is no cure. I had to battle and tough it out gradually going back to my normal routine just like what I’m doing now.

What was your treatment if you didn’t need anti-biotics from a doctor? I took 1,000mg of vitamin C, drank green tea, ate Trader Joe’s chocolate because it controlled my cough, drank Simply Orange, ate lots of fruit, took Ricola to control my cough or Chloraseptic throat lozenges to relief itchy throat when I slept, and drank Coke.

Ricola stopped working after the next sickness. I suspected store bought orange juice I drank this time contributed to making my sickness worse. I avoid drinking store bought orange juice for the rest of my life.

My personal treatment worked in 2009 and 2010.

What sickness do you usually get? Stomach flu or coughing with post nasal drip sinus infection or not.

Why do you blog your sinus infection? I want to reference how I recovered my sinus infection or RSV and share to everyone how I recovered.

There were days you showed improvement. Then you got worse. What do you think happened? I ate partially cooked sausage on Fri Mar 11 which I think gave me an infection that lead to a sinus infection. I failed to keep warm that happened on Fri Mar 18 and Sun Mar 20 which I think gave me the RSV. It was a double whammy.

Could you have prevented the sickness? Take naps when I was tired. Eat when I’m hungry. I remember my family and I visited Monterey. I ate little during the one day trip and I got sick days later. The symptoms were the same as my sinus infection; fortunately, my personal treatment was enough for a full recovery.

My eat when I’m hungry attitude saved my Fall ’10 quarter. I ate lots of Pop Tarts and candy bars. I believed I managed to avoid getting sick despite eating all that junk food.

Sleep off the fatigue instead of fight it.

I believe another contributing factor was my personal haircut lady at my salon. She was sneezing and had a stuffy nose when she cut my hair.

What could you have done differently? The sleepless nights coughing should have told me my sickness was serious and I needed a doctor to examine me. The doctor might need to prescribed me prescription drugs.

Shelter In-Place COVID-19 Blog December 2022

California issued shelter in-place orders on Tue Mar 17, 2020. I have been logging the highlights and lowlights. The COVID-19 winter surge tripledemic which also includes the flu and Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV). A surge in China is clear and present. The last three weeks of the year starting Mon Dec 12 were the slowest weeks of the year. Dec was the slowest month of the year.

Thur Dec 1. Dentist appointment. I completed errands at Lucky's, Kohl's, and Walgreens.

Sat Dec 3. The China government eased COVID-19 restrictions reacting from protests. A negative test result no longer required for public transportation. A negative test no result no longer required to enter pharmacies, parks, and tourist attractions in other regions. A 48-hour negative test result is required to enter shopping malls in Beijing. The malls gradually reopened with restaurants and eateries providing take-out. Case numbers are at historic highs.

The protests started on Fri Nov 25 after an apartment fire in Urumqi killed ten people. There were questions either firefighters or victims trying to escape were blocked by locked doors due to the lockdown. The Chinese people held a piece of blank white paper which symbolized censorship.

Secretary Of Defense Lloyd Austin wanted to keep the military COVID-19 vaccine mandate in place. 20 governors sent a letter to President Joe Biden to remove the mandate. The reason was the mandate made recruiting troops difficult.

Tue Dec 6. Scientists at the University Of Texas found the omicron booster shot is weak against the BQ.1.1. People infected with COVID-19 and received the omicron booster is more protected than a non-infected person. The Center For Disease Control (CDC) said BQ.1.1 made up 32% of US infections. The omicron booster is weakest against the XBB.1 variant.

Santa Clara County announced an increase in COVID-19 levels detected in wastewater. Hospitalizations increased from 98 in Nov 1 to 218 on Dec 2.

Wed Dec 7. Hospital in-patient bed availability declined due to the tripledemic RSV, flu, and COVID-19. The flu arrived early. Some hospitals delayed elective surgeries. The CDC said flu-like illnesses tripled and hospitalizations doubled before the Thanksgiving week.

Thur Dec 8. The Food And Drug Administration (FDA) authorized the COVID-19 omicron vaccine for children as young as six months old. The omicron vaccine is the bivalent.

Fri Dec 9. Picked up my Black Friday and Cyber Monday purchases at Macys. More people wore masks.

My sister tested positive for COVID-19. It was the second time in two years.

Sun Dec 11. Watched most of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers at San Francisco 49ers football game.

Mon Dec 12. US hospitalizations increased 30% during the last two weeks according to the CDC. Most of the increase was due to the older Americans and people with existing health problems. Daily hospital admissions for people age 70 and older increased from 8.8 per 100,000 people on Nov 15 to 12.1 per 100,000 on Dec 6.

Day 1,000 since CA shutdown due to the COVID-19 global pandemic on Tue Mar 17, 2020.

Tue Dec 13. FL Governor Ron De Santis petitioned the FL Supreme Court for a grand jury to investigate the COVID-19 vaccines for any illegal activity. Pharmaceutical companies didn't provide their COVID-19 vaccine research data to be verified by independent researchers.

Wed Dec 14. 2022 is expected the fewest deaths than the 2020 and 2021 COVID-19 global pandemic years. 2021 was the deadliest year in US history with 3.4 million deaths. 2022 is the first decline in deaths since 2009; however, 2022 is 13% higher than 2019. The CDC said a late Dec surge could change the expected total death number. 1,080,000 Americans died from COVID-19. The top three deaths each year from 2020 to 2022 were heart disease, cancer, and COVID-19.

Beijing experienced empty streets and deserted shopping centers like an economic shutdown because of another outbreak. No accurate COVID-19 case data from China. China rolled back testing requirements. China no longer included asymptomatic infections in its daily count.

Thur Dec 15. CAL-OSHA (California Occupational Safety And Health Administration) passed a rule employers no longer pay infected workers to stay home if they tested positive for COVID-19.

Fri Dec 16. Shopped at Costco. It was the slowest week in months.

Mon Dec 19. Never-coviders is a classification for people who didn't get COVID-19. The New York Times reported these people with natural immunities. There is no known explanation.

China reported two deaths since the government eased its Zero COVID-19 policy on Sat Dec 3.

Tue Dec 20. CVS and Walgreens placed limits on purchasing children's pain relief and fever reducing products. The reason was an early start to the flu season and RSV increasing demand. Johnson & Johnson ran production around the clock for Children's Tylenol.

Wed Dec 21. Purchased donuts at Happy Donuts. Ran errands at Safeway and Kohl's.

Thur Dec 22. The CDC published a report life expectancy decreased to 76.4 years which is down from the all-time high 78.8 years in 2019.

Fri Dec 23. An internal estimate from China's top health official stated 250 million citizens may have COVID-19 after the government eliminated their Zero COVID-19 policy.

Sat Dec 24. India randomly tested international travelers because of increasing cases in China. The government urged the public to wear masks and social distance even though there are no mandates. India relaxed its COVID-19 restrictions earlier in the year after infection rates dropped.

The US Military lifted the COVID-19 vaccine mandate under a $858 billion defense spending bill signed into law. Military troops are encouraged to get vaccinated and boosted.

Tue Dec 27. China ended a COVID-19 quarantine requirement for international travelers starting on Jan 8, 2023. The quarantine was five days at a hotel and three days at home. A negative test 48 hours before departure is still required. Passengers must wear masks in the airplane.

Wed Dec 28. The CDC announced travelers from China arriving in the US must prove a negative COVID-19 test starting on Thur Jan 5, 2023. The reason was a surge in infections and a lack of information from the China government. Some scientists are worried of new variants due to the virus mutating. Tests must be administered up to two days before travel. Japan, India, Italy, South Korea, and Taiwan also require negative test before entry in their country.

The CDC reported the US reached 100 million COVID-19 cases which is 33% of the US population. The number is likely an undercount because asymptomatic people or people tested positive at home didn't report to their local health department. An estimate of actual positive cases is 200 million. About 400 people die of COVID-19 per day. About 5,000 people admitted to the hospital per day. About 3,000 people die of COVID-19 per day in Jan 2022. About 21,000 people admitted to the hospital per day in Jan 2022.

Thur Dec 29. The omicron variant XBB strain was found to be resistant to COVID-19 boosters. The XBB strain is dominate in the Northeast US centered in NJ, NY, and MA.

Fri Dec 30. Helped my brother's family pick up a new car in Sacramento, CA.

The CDC said the omicron XBB.1.5 represents 40.5% of new positive cases in the US. XBB.1.5 is overtaking omicron BQ.1 and BQ.1.1 which both dominated in the fall. It's too early to conclude XBB.1.5 is more severe than previous omicron mutations.

Shelter In-Place COVID-19 Blog November 2022

California issued shelter in-place orders on Tue Mar 17, 2020. I have been logging the highlights and lowlights. The Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV) and the seasonal flu are part of the COVID-19 headlines. Also, headlines increased for the COVID-19 winter surge compared to last month. Doctors and health officials warned the tripledemic. Cases increased nationwide.

Tue Nov 1. Oakland, CA mask mandate for large indoor events expired. However, masks must be worn at events with 2,500 or more people and city facilities including libraries, civic buildings, recreational centers, and senior centers.

Thur Nov 3. A 2.8 magnitude earthquake struck the Bay Area at 8:45am centered in Downtown San Jose.

Pfizer is creating a combined COVID-19 and flu vaccine.

Throwback Blog: De Anza Week Mar 21, 2011

Blogger’s Note: Throwback blogs are blogs from my past. I start posting past blogs reflecting what I wrote. It's like my "A Second Look" blogs for which I give myself feedback.

Today's throwback blog is titled De Anza Week Mar 21, 2011 in Mar 2011. Another De Anza College blog when I went back to school during the Great Recession. The Mar 21, 2011 week was finals week for the Winter Quarter 2011. I was sick before and during finals week. Moreover, it was mid-terms at Mission College where I took Quickbooks. I ended the blog saying Winter 2011 was my worse quarter. There was a sickness bug throughout campus. Motivation was weak. Student-teacher connections were weak. It was a fatigued quarter. Everyone had grit. Everyone adjusted.

Mon Mar 21

Today was the last day of instruction. Finals started tomorrow. My Intermediate Acct professor was on-call for jury duty. The probability was rare to be called in on the first day and the probability was rare to serve. My professor was called in and he served.

The professor arrived late. He showed his juror badge. The students received the practice final from a student at the beginning of class. We received extra credit by completing the practice final by Friday, the day of our final. The professor lectured and reviewed a few of the questions. The final was Chapters 16, 18, and 19.

Intro to Business was my first final. There were conflicts with some students if we took the final on Wed. Everyone choose to have the final today. The final was 100 questions consisted of 40% new material after the third mid-term and 60% old material. I didn’t study. My feeling was I passed the class. I answered all the accounting, stocks, and investment questions correctly. I better answered them correctly because I’m an accounting major and I followed the stock market during the dot-com era. I submitted more extra credit when I submitted my final. The extra credit was 20 points for selling a stock with at least $1,000 profit and 2 points for buying and selling an exchanged traded fund involving currency.

I went home one hour earlier. It took me one hour to complete the Intro to Business final.

Tue Mar 22

My sinus infection got worse Monday night. I scheduled an appointment in the afternoon with my primary care physician. He extended my antibiotics for five more days and said I continue to take Mucinix D. He also gave me a prescription for codeine and Nasonex.

Quickbooks class was short. We took our mid-term. The mid-term was 25 true and false and 15 multiple choice. 50% of the questions were from the textbook. I didn’t study. I answered the accounting concepts questions correctly. I better answered them correctly because I’m an accounting major. There was no lecture afterwards. I start working on the take home mid-term during spring break.

Wed Mar 23

I took two teaspoons of codeine and sprayed Nasonex inside my nose. It took me a long time to sleep. The codeine didn’t work.

I went to De Anza at 12:30pm because there was a study group for Intermediate Acct. Two students including myself showed up. I studied the textbook and my classmate worked on the practice mid-term. He looked at my practice mid-term I completed Tue afternoon as a guide. I spent Monday night and Tuesday afternoon on the practice mid-term.

I went back home to eat a late lunch and read Chapter 16. I drove back to De Anza at 7:10pm for the dance class final. The turnout was small. I recognized a few students who didn’t attend. They might not know we had a final. We reviewed the Cha Cha Cha, Waltz, Salsa, Nite Club Two-Step, and our dance demo West Coast Swing. The instructor ended the class as if tonight was a regular class meeting since finals we danced longer than a regular class meeting.

Fri Mar 25

This was it. I studied Chapters 16, 18, and 19 and reviewed the practice final twice for Intermediate Acct. I did my best. My goal was to pass the class. An A, B, or C grade doesn’t matter. I just wanted to pass. My sinus infection improved such that I cough less. I thought to myself I keep warm, I cough less. I drank lots of hot water. I stopped taking codeine on Wed night and continued spraying Nasonex. I continued the antibiotics and Mucinix D. My sleep was better Wed and Thur.

The Intermediate Acct final match the practice final mostly. The professor tweaked some of the questions such that students must know their basic Accounting 1B. I forgot most of my Accounting 1B. There were no CPA questions from Chapter 16. There were three questions exactly from the practice final. The final wasn’t hard in my opinion. I thought the final was written such that to earn an A on the final you must know basic 1B.

I returned my Intro to Business rented textbook to the bookstore. If students failed to return the textbook, the bookstore charged the full price on the textbook and the student owned it. Damn!

Highlights

There were few highlights in Winter ’11 quarter. Fall ’10 was the worse quarter. Winter ’11 is my worse quarter, and no other quarter comes as worse as this quarter. I choose to review the Winter ’11 highlights using a Q&A format.

What went wrong?

Laziness, boring classes, lost interest, lack of focus, no connection between the instructor and the students. There was no challenge. There was a fatigue bug throughout the quarter. It seemed everyone at De Anza including the teachers and staff were tired—lacked energy. There was also a sickness bug. My classmate in Intermediate Acct had the flu and missed one week. I had a sinus infection and I missed one week. My counselor said there was a sickness bug in her building.

The late lunch and study break between Intro to Business failed. I believed the break between the classes contributed to my quarter long fatigue. My late lunch didn’t give me enough energy to focus in dance class. I stopped attending Mon night dance class in March.

I should have taken more naps when I felt fatigue instead of fighting the fatigue. My fatigue contributed a significant part to my sinus infection.

Winter ’11 worse than San Jose State’s Fall Semester 1993?

Definitely no. I was naive, took my professors for granted such that they gave me a good grade anyways since I get along with them well, and making little efforts in my homework. I was immature back in 1993.

There were lots of incidents, events, and moments beyond your control.

There were too many. They were all in a negative way. Add them up and I felt frustrated, angry, and stressed. The small incidents included lots of red lights at intersections and long delays in the supermarket lines. The large incidents included my home almost robbed.

What was the Winter ’11 lesson learned?

I learned a life lesson in past quarters. There was no lesson learned.

What are your changes for Spring ’11?

One, consistency in my life. My daily schedule was inconsistent throughout the quarter. Sometimes I sleep early, sometimes I sleep late. Sometimes I have a good week working out three days a week, sometimes I have a bad week not working out at all.

Two, I want to control more of my life. If something bad happens, I want to take control to turn the bad to good.

Three, I have a break between my classes in Spring ’11. I’m going home instead of staying on campus.

Fourth, if I feel tired, I take a nap. Don’t fight it, sleep it.

January started great for everyone.

Yeah, January started great. I remember the first day of classes in Winter ’10. Nobody wanted to show up. The students, instructors, and staff wanted to go home and stay on vacation.

Everyone looked forward to Winter ’11 because many people had a bad 2010 year. They hoped for a good start to 2011. It seemed, at least in my classes and the staff I talked to, Winter ’11 was not a good start.

What saved Winter ’11 from a disaster?

First, seeing a doctor for my sinus infection. Initially I thought my sickness was something I recover myself like in 2009 and 2010. I needed a doctor to examine me and to prescribe antibiotics.

Second, changing my studying in Intermediate Acct. I was able to complete the pre-lecture homework without reading the chapter. The material and concepts became harder. I read the chapter first and then completed the pre-lecture homework. The change saved time, eased my frustration, and I understood the material faster.

Third, took it slow and did a little each time. For example, most of the quarter I completed my Intermediate Acct homework all in one day. The last month I completed the homework a little each day up to the due date.

Fourth, stopped attending Monday night dance class. I got more free time eating and studying at home on Mondays instead of staying on campus.

How fast was Winter ’11?

It was the fastest quarter and the fastest three months ever in my life. One advantage to the quarter system was if the class stinks, it ends faster than semester.

You received information in Fall ’10 there was a highly recommended Intro to Business instructor. He taught Tuesday and Thursday. You didn’t want to attend classes four days a week. You registered for a Monday and Wednesday Intro to Business class after Intermediate Acct. It turned out the Monday and Wednesday instructor was boring. Should you have taken the guarantee Tuesday and Thursday class?

Hindsight is 20/20. I thought nobody can screw up an introduction class. I was wrong. My Monday and Wednesday instructor was boring, unchallenging, and the homework assignments were either too easy or too confusing. If somebody can screw up a cooking a hamburger, somebody can screw up anything.

What was something you’re not going to miss?

The Intro to Business lesson videos.

What were the highlights?

I watched classic movies I checked out at the library, I submitted graduation forms, and I ate out less often.

Top Ten Ways I Lower My Chances Getting Sick

I was sick from Wed May 6 to Mon Jun 16. It was the longest time I was sick. I was sick with a throat infection and a bacterial infection in my left eye. The sicknesses were preventable. I blog a timeline which includes the symptoms, the remedies, and my doctor visit at a later date.

A clean house lowers the chances I get sick. I don't want to live in a house with dust and dirt on the carpets. I don't want to live in a house with sticky floors. I clean the house every 4-5 weeks. Avoiding expired foods and drinks are another way to lower the chances I get sick. I remember getting a sore throat drinking expired cranberry juice. Lesson learned.

Here are the top ten ways I lower my chances getting sick:

10. Take Charge Eating At Home. Sometimes my mom doesn't want to cook. It's up to me to cook tonight's meal. It's worth the time even though I lose my free time doing something else. I didn't get sick in 2013; however, I lost free time job searching and job training. The choice is obvious. Cook instead of risking sickness again skipping dinner.

9. Soda Is My Best Friend. My spice tolerance level is low. My body responds well drinking soda with spicy food. I remember two times I got sick eating spicy food without soda on Feb 1998 and possibly May 2014.

8. No Forcing Myself Working Out. There is no gym workout when any of the conditions is met: incomplete meals, lack of sleep the previous night, or not enough time for a complete workout.

7. Stagnant Air. I'm prone to get sick when the air inside is stagnant and warm or an indoor draft from an air condition vent. An outdoor draft is okay.

6. Take Your Time. Avoid stress. Do everything one at a time.

5. Know The Current Weather Conditions. I dislike a big difference between the daily high temperature and the daily low temperature. For example, my body fails to adjust to a high in the 80s and the low in the 50s. I desire consistent daytime and nighttime weather temperatures with gradual increase and decrease changes. The Spring 2014 weather experienced big temperature discrepancies in Northern California.

4. Get Good Sleep. Proper rest is important to re-energize for the next day. If I can't finish it, then I complete it tomorrow. Tomorrow is another day.

3. Listen To My Body. Eat when my stomach growls. Drink when I'm dehydrated. Take a nap when I'm fatigued. Take a break when I'm stressed.

2. Stay Hydrated. Drink water. Drink water on hot days. Drink water on any warm environment. Drink water when I'm working out at the gym.

1. Eat Three Meals. Never skip breakfast, lunch, and dinner. I go out to restaurants including fast food if I must.

A Sign A Person Doesn't Panic

One good sign a person remains calm in an emergency or critical situation is he or she doesn't panic during an illness. I panicked and worried when I got sick before March 2011. I immediately took drugs the first sign of sickness including a sore throat or coughing. I took sore throat lozenges, Sudafed or Tylenol, and vitamin C. I drank Coke, green tea, orange juice, and, of course, water. I even tried garlic tablets once. I took prescription drugs after visiting the doctor. I popped pills when I was sick.

March 2011 was the longest time I was sick since my freshmen year in high school. I visited two doctors. I continued to remain sick. There was little recovery. I realized during my college spring break my body must take care of itself. I must trust my body to recover. I stopped all medications. I stopped drinking green tea and orange juice. The recovery started the next day.

Today, I remain calm when I become sick including common colds, allergies, Respiratory Syncytial Viruses (RSV), and sinus infections. I get plenty of rest and drink lots of water. I cook good home meals. I avoid eating at restaurants. I eat yogurt from the frozen yogurt stores and Jell-o. I avoid the supermarket yogurts to the best of my ability. I still take sore throat lozenges and drink Coke. Coke does really well for my family's bodies. Finally, I vacuum and clean my house. I breathe clean air without dust, pollen, and allergens which speeds up my recovery. The bathrooms and kitchen are cleaned, too. Visiting the doctor is an absolute last resort.

Thereby, I'm a calm person in any situation. I don't panic.

Me Versus My Sinus Infection IV

I blogged "The Best Life Time Out Or Distraction Is Being Sick" when I got sick starting with a sore throat on Thur Nov 15. I post a follow up blog if my sickness became the Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV). I didn't get the RSV; however, I did get sick with common cold symptoms sore throat, runny nose, stuffy nose, and congestion. The coughing was mild as phlegm dripped down my throat. Phlegm is good because it removes toxins from your body.

I choose to title my latest sickness "Me Versus My Sinus Infection IV" for consistency in blogging my sickness. I'm happy I got sick twice this year compared to three times last year. I hope the rest of Dec is a healthy and strong me. Here's the timeline:

Wed Nov 14. I woke up with a sore throat. I took three sore throat lozenges. I had a runny nose in the afternoon. I ate frozen yogurt.

Thur Nov 15. I made Jell-o. My runny nose became stuffy. I ate frozen yogurt ordering a small size instead of a child size. I went to bed applying expired vapor rub on my throat and chest.

Fri Nov 16. I purchased a new bottle of vapor rub (and new first aid items). My sore throat was gone. I had congestion. I applied Vanicream moisturizer on my nose and new vapor rub before I went to bed.

Sat Nov 17. Best sleep of the week. I turned on the humidifier between 4am-7am. My phlegm caused minimal coughing. There was minor stiffness. I was very hungry in the early morning because Fri night's dinner wasn't healthy; moreover, I had a big pimple below my chin.

Sun Nov 18. Woke up sweaty at 3am. I was too hot. The humidifier seemed to not work. I think it aggravated my phlegm with coughing. My body was confused whether it was too cold or too hot. My right leg felt weak. I ate snacks at 3:15am. I applied vapor rub. I fell asleep at 5am and woke up at 10:45am.

I had mild coughing and stuffy nose throughout the day. I blew my nose fewer times. My ears started to open up. I opened the window for fresh air. I felt better going out. We had an impromptu game night. I went to bed wearing a Breath Right strip.

Mon Nov 19. Nine hours of sleep last night. I wore a Breath Right strip for the second night.

Tue Nov 20. Minor stuffy nose. The coughing with phlegm was occasional. I ate frozen yogurt.

Wed Nov 21. Lots of rest, drank lots of fluids. Coughing and stuffy nose was random and occasional.

Thur Nov 22. I vacuumed the entire house. I could breathe again. I even vacuumed the edges behind my bed to remove the dust.

Fri Nov 23. I started drinking warm water to soothe my coughing.

I continued to cough with phlegm occasionally. I was still sensitive to the cold and the dust. I knew the recovery was slowly and surly. The keys to recovery were vacuuming the house and drinking warm water. I didn't take any over-the-counter drugs and I didn't see a doctor. My body welcomed Jell-o, Coke, and frozen yogurt. Vapor rub and the Breath Right stripes assisted my sleep very well.

The Best Life Time Out Or Distraction Is Being Sick

I woke up with a sore throat yesterday. 9 times out of 10 a sore throat is a prelude to being sick. I had a sore throat, runny nose, and congestion going to sleep. I applied a Breathe Right nasal strip and rubbed Vicks Vaporub on my throat to combat the congestion. As of the blog entry, I have a sore throat and mild congestion. The next 24-48 hours determine if I have Respiratory Syncytial Virus or RSV. Feb 2012 was the last time I became sick with RSV. I hope it's just a common cold which very rarely happens to my body.

The frustration getting sick was the same earlier this year. My life was starting to be consistent: going to the gym 3-4 days a week, job searching, catching up with emails . . . moving forward again. Also, family distractions affecting me were ending and my dad purchased a new laptop with wireless capabilities so we both can be connected to the web instead of one waiting for the other. My life was ready to press play instead of a combination of slow motion and pause.

Everything that caused me to be sick happened. Everything that went wrong did. Everything beyond my control caused me to be sick. Nobody was to be blamed. The events leading to my sickness:

*Some of my breakfast, lunch, and dinners were incomplete and unhealthy. I should have been more proactive in eating enough foods. I ate two meals on Sat, ate a poor breakfast and a light lunch on Sun, and ate a weak lunch consisting of Sat's leftover food on Mon.

*I helped my uncle, aunt, and cousin with their laptops and set up their wireless printer last Sat. My aunt was sick.

*My brother's family was staying over the weekend. My nephew was sick, and he coughed in front of me.

*I wore shorts instead of long pants going to the gym Tue night. The night was cold. I plan to buy another long gym pants and, maybe, long sleeve gym shirts during the holiday season.

*Also, I didn't drink enough water because I felt bloated. That should have been a sign to skip the gym. I worked out at late hours because I really wanted to get back in shape. I tried too hard.

*And I rushed out of the house to the gym for a quick workout neglecting the cold weather. I didn't turn on the car's heater, and it was my mom's car I drove to save a minute from backing out my car from the driveway. My mom's car took longer to heat the car. I should drive my car to the gym permanently.

*Cold days and evenings meant getting sick was in the air.

*My body failed to adjust the cold days and colder nights. My area had record breaking warm temperatures last week.

*I slept with one less blanket the night before I got the sore throat because the house was too hot. My parents didn't turn off the heater. I woke up when the heater turned on. I turned off the heater and didn't sleep with that extra blanket.

Time Out, Raymond

Perhaps, the timing getting sick is good. Forget my life frustrations and anger I can't control. My life is stopped. My focus is recovery. My body is telling me to stop, rest, refocus, and do something different. It's time to hold off living life do something every minute, every second. Time out, Raymond, for keeping your mind occupied with something you must do. It's time to be bored. I may just read books like I did in Sept 2011 when I had RSV. Reading books is an acceptable time out.

Job searching, watching anime, reading emails, anything that frustrates you when you don't complete it, anything you need to catch up are on hold. Just relax. Take it easy. Stay warm. Eat Jell-o and yogurt. Drink coke.

Side note: If my sickness becomes RSV, I write another blog detailing my recovery. I re-read my past RSV blogs to remind myself how I recovered.

Me Versus My Sinus Infection III

I was sick on the third week of Feb. The timing was bad because I started a consistent lifestyle including job searching and going back to the gym. I thought I had the common cold, a rare sickness because the past years I either got the Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV) or the stomach flu. Fortunately, this sickness was minor and recovery was faster than last October. I remained focused, read my past sinus infection blogs to remind myself how I recovered, and remained calm. Here’s the timeline:

Mon Feb 13. I woke up with a dry throat. I drank water and the dry throat disappeared. The dry throat reappeared in the late morning. I drank water and the dry throat remained. I took a throat lozenge. No improvement. I applied salt inside my throat before I went to sleep. I slept well. I thought whether I got the common cold or a mild RSV before I fell asleep. The symptoms matched RSV throughout the day.

Tue Feb 14. I felt worse. I had stuffy nose one minute and runny nose the next minute. I drank water throughout the day and drank Coke for lunch and dinner. I ate an orange and apple for breakfast. I ate two kiwi at night. I made jello after dinner.

I had trouble sleeping because I had breathing problems. I turned on the humidifier. My sleeping was off and on. I turned off the humidifier late night and fully fell asleep.

Wed Feb 15. I felt a little better. The stuffy nose continued while the runny nose ceased. Light cough started. I coughed out phlegm which was 99% white color. I took a nap at 5:30pm without the humidifier. I turned on the humidifier at night time. I turned off the humidifier before I went to bed.

I ate frozen yogurt from a local frozen yogurt store. I drank Coke for lunch and dinner. The jello was good.

Thur Feb 16. I slept for 11 hours last night. Best sleep of the week. Coughs were productive. I had congestion. No runny nose and stuffy nose. I asked myself, “Mild case of RSV?”

Fri Feb 17. Best day of the week. I could use more rest throughout the day. Coughing continued to be productive. I bent down and blew my nose that allowed me to blow out more mucus. I’m not sure that was healthy or advised for sick people. Coke, jello, and yogurt helped.

I was sad I couldn’t workout at the gym all this week. I spent less time searching for a job. I took no medications and vitamin C supplements.

How Did I Get Sick?

I always think about the most likely cause I got sick. Here are the probabilities:

My cousin and aunt were sick. My family celebrated Chinese New Year in my cousin’s restaurant. My cousin and aunt were sick. My cousin didn’t work in the kitchen that day. Probability is 25%.

It’s simply in the air. It was the time of the year for people to get sick. Probability is 20%.

Sat Feb 11 dinner. I ate Hello Kitty sushi for dinner. Probability is 15%.

Sun Feb 12 lunch. My dad, uncle, and I ate Chinese for lunch. Probability is 10%.

Sun Feb 12 dinner. My mom did a poor job cooking pork from the freezer. The pork was dried like beef jerky. Probability is 10%.

Too little, too late? I ate the Chinese for lunch and my mom’s dried pork dinner both late. Probability is 20%.

One of my body weaknesses is a large difference in daily temperature range. The temperature range varied day by day significantly. Probability is 20%.

Bacterial. I could have gotten a bacterial infection somewhere and somehow. Probability is 20%.

Me Versus My Sinus Infection II

I was sick for the third time this year. The first two times were in March and the Fourth Of July weekend. I suspect I got sick with RSV or Respiratory Syncytial Virus again. Fortunately, this sickness lasted one week. The key factors were I remained calm, I was focused, I learned my mistakes in March, and I let my body recovered my sickness without medications. I didn’t take vitamin C and drank green tea. Here’s the timeline:

Mon Sep 19. I woke up in the early morning with a sore throat. I took a sore throat lozenge and went back to sleep.

Tue Sep 20. I still had a sore throat. I felt fatigued. The night time was colder than I thought—unseasonably cold that surprised me. The days were hot and the nights were cold that continued throughout the week.

I failed to realize the colder nights. I believed if I kept warm at night, my sickness could have been a sore throat. I actually had a sore throat only sickness two weeks ago that lasted two days.

I drank Coke for lunch and dinner all this week.

Wed Sep 21. Runny nose. I went to sleep needing two pillows to raise my head. I wore a long sleeve and pants pajamas instead of a t-shirt and shorts.

Thur Sep 22. Congestion and plugged up nose. I lost my voice. I had trouble sleeping last night I woke up at 1pm. Sore throat completely gone. I drank a cup of Trader Joe’s Hot Cocoa before bed tonight.

Fri Sep 23. Morning coughing. I felt cold in the morning. Today was the last day temperatures remained hot. The house was too warm even at night time because the air condition was off the entire day and the house wasn’t getting enough nighttime cold air; moreover, the daytime temperatures remained in the high 80s for a long time. I got a bloody nose when I went to sleep.

I had trouble sleeping as the night continued. Post nasal dripping caused me to cough; fortunately the coughing was minimal. I feared the coughing intensified in the days ahead. I browsed the web on my smartphone Googling RSV. One website suggested I use a humidifier. I went to the bathroom and turned on the humidifier. I immediately fell asleep in minutes.

Sat Sep 24. Best sleep ever the night before. Felt much better. Temperatures were the coolest of the week. Congestion and stuffy nose improved. I felt more energized.

Currently. Stopped drinking coke. I still have mucus dripping down my throat and I still need to blow my stuffy nose. Recovery continues at a faster pace compared to past sicknesses.

A Body Weakness

One of my body weaknesses is a large difference in daily temperature range. My body responds poorly to a temperature range, say, between 60 and 90 degrees. A temperature range between 50 and 70 degrees is good.

A Preventable RSV

My latest RSV sickness was preventable. I thought about the moments and circumstances I could have done to lower my chances of getting RSP. Here we go:

Expired cranberry juice. I believe food and drinks must be consumed before the due date. The cranberry juice I drank Fri Sep 16-Sun Sep 18 expired two weeks ago. Probability I got sick from this is 1%.

What the hell is this hot weather?!? I went to Gilroy on Sat Sep 17. The weather was hotter than we expected, and it was dry and muggy. The sun was burning my skin I needed sunscreen on my arms immediately. Probability is 20%.

I was hungry about 15 minutes in Gilroy. I didn’t eat a candy bar in the cooler inside the trunk. Probability is 5%.

Always say yes to a drink with my meal. I ate a quick lunch and didn’t drink water while eating before leaving to Gilroy. I drank water afterwards. I should have drank something with my quick lunch. Probability is 5%.

I repeat. Always say yes to a drink with my meal. I ate a sandwich at Erik’s Deli Cafe without ordering a drink in Gilroy. I drank alien cat’s ice tea that was over-steeped. Probability is 5%.

Moreover, I should have ordered a meal deal, a full lunch. I should not have cheap out.

Too little, too late? There was an extended time period we didn’t drink water; although we were indoors most of the time shopping. We finally got bottle water at a Starbucks. Probability is 5%.

The draft inside the stores. I remember studying at Clark Library at SJSU at the third floor under a draft in Fall Semester 1994. I got sick the next day I had to skip classes.

I was under a draft inside a store. I might have caught a virus or something airborne. Probability is 25%.

For the third time, a drink with your meal. I always drink soda when I eat pizza because I got sick eating a pizza without soda in February 1998. We ate at Fresh Choice for dinner. I didn’t order a soda. I ate four pieces of pizza. Probability is 10%.

I could have purchased a can of soda in a gas station leaving Gilroy.

It’s simply in the air. I read a few friends on their Facebook updates they were sick. Probability is 15%.

Bacterial. I could have gotten a bacterial infection somewhere and somehow. Probability is 20%.

I hate Montreal Steak seasoning. Questionable seasonings my mom used to cook steaks on Sun Sep 18. Probability is 1%.

Cookies. I purchased Japanese cookies that were individually wrapped. Probability is 5%.

Going Forward

Avoid sitting under drafts, eat and drink when I’m hungry, and don’t cheap out my meals.

Side note: I was in Los Angeles when I got sick during Fourth Of July weekend. On the night before we went home, we ate dinner at a Korean BBQ. We ate yogurt afterwards. On the day we drove home, I felt much better. Was it the yogurt that helped me feel better? I was told yogurt after a big meal helps digestion. Maybe the yogurt helped me more than digestion. On the other hand, in the hotel room, I slept on a bed, I adjusted the vents blowing air away from everyone, and there were less people in the room. In the end, I really don’t know the answer.

Me Versus My Sinus Infection

Q&A
