The Green Steno Notebook 11

Blogger's note: There are three consecutive Green Steno Notebook blogs. Today is the third of three.

The picture above is the notebook I acquired on the first day of my new white collar job. I wrote notes during my job training. I wrote other notes, reminders, and knowledge thereafter. I share many of them. Here is the ninth blog.

*Apr 12, 2022. Dream last night. I played for the San Jose State Spartans baseball team. We played to qualify for the College World Series. Men on second base and third base. I hit a walk-off double in the bottom of the ninth inning on the first pitch to the opposite field.

*Apr 12, 2022. Removed arm rests from the laptop desk chair. I thought the arm rests were permanent. Incorrect. Arm rests were bolted.

*Apr 27. Dad installed a new shower head.

*Apr 30. Everyday carry idea. Fire starters made from cotton balls. Cover each cotton ball with 3/4th Vaseline.

*May 20. REI lifetime membership increased to $30. REI Anniversary Sale fewer items for sale.

*May 21. Four forces of nature: gravity, electromagnetic force, weak nuclear force, and strong nuclear force.

*May 22. Albert Einstein's Theory Of Relativity. Energy = Mass X Speed Of Light squared or E = MC^2.

A new theory devised is really an extension of the previous theory. Disprove a theory find a single observation disagreeing with the prediction; however, there can be an exception or an incorrect test.

Werner Heisenberg uncertainty principle. There are limits we know the properties of a pair of particles simultaneously. We know more of one particle and we know less of the second particle.

Space-time is curved. Space-time is not a straight line.

Not finite. There are boundaries.

*May 29. Entropy measures the degree of disorder of a system. Disorder increases if things are left to themselves; for example, stop making repairs around the house. One can create order out of disorder; for example, paint a house. Creating order requires expending energy which decreases the amount of ordered energy available.

Anthropic Principle. "We see the universe the way it is because we exist." There are two versions: the weak and the strong.

*May 29. The correct way below.

*Peel a banana at the bottom.
*Place food required to be cold at the rear of the refrigerator. Maximum coldness and minimize warmness.
*A security procedure. Substitute crossing out words and numbers by adding words, letters, and numbers.
*Peel Post-It notes sideways.
*Bobby pins the scribbly part is downwards.
*The center part is empty when microwaving.
*Use the pizza saver to assist selecting a pizza slice instead of the other hand.
*Put ice cream inside a freezer bag.
*Side sleep on the left side on the mattress. Minimize the chances of digestive stomach pain.

*May 31. Drove from the post office to Costco. Air conditioning on. Switched air circulation from outside to recycle because smog coming out of a black Toyota Camry's tailpipe.

*Jun 22. NFL Commission Roger Goodell testify regarding the Washington Commanders owner Dan Synder's toxic workplace. "We're not perfect, but we do our best."

*Jul 11. Shaved with cold water for the first time.

*Jul 13. Cooking bok choy and other vegetables. One bowl and one plate. Safety. Second batch fully cooked use the one plate to transfer to the one bowl instead of second batch to the almost filled to the top one bowl.

*Jul 16. A gift idea for me. Anything vanilla flavor.

*Jul 28. Broil water at night instead of day. Water cools faster overnight.

*Aug 14. My parents eat whole wheat buns because wheat buns are softer than white buns.

*Aug 19. Air compressed jogging shoes. Too much debris inside.

*Aug 20. Shopped at Under Armour Outlet Store at the Great Mall in Milpitas, CA. Buy one, get one free on socks $24. One pack of socks fit my size. Fitted running shirt $40. Loose workout shirt $25. Poor selections on the shirts. I couldn't find my color. Exited store empty handed.

Driving Home Safely Fast

Blogger's Note: All drivers must obey traffic laws. All drivers must drive safely. No recklessness. Automobiles and trucks must be running in good operational condition.

I fully understand why some drivers speed on long road trips. Drivers speed 10 miles over the speed limit. Drivers speed 15 miles over the speed limit. Drivers speed 20 miles over the speed limit. The driving conditions favor higher driving speeds. The favorable conditions include no traffic, flat roads, straight-away highway, and no rain.

The faster driving speed purpose is arrive at the destination as quick as possible. The clock is close to midnight. Get home quick. It's unnecessary to stay on the road longer. The quicker the party arrives home, the quicker everyone sleeps. The gas milage is great because of the favorable freeway conditions. Any other driving habits to increase the gas milage is negligible. Time is prioritized over the extra one more mile a gallon.

Update On A Past Blog

I correct the blog Green Tea and Coke Don't Mix written on Feb 4, 2006. I blamed drinking green tea and Coke for keeping me awake. I slept around 4:30am. The correct reasons why I had trouble sleeping were too much hype, too much excitement, and too much happiness. My brain was overdosed on dopamine.

The next time I experience an overdose on dopamine I must distract myself. I must cool down the room. The distraction can be playing video games, watching television, watching movies, listening to music, and/or browsing the internet.

Mon Jul 3. The Center For Disease Control (CDC) estimated 1 in 4 Americans age 16 and older didn't get COVID-19. 96.7% of all Americans have antibodies from vaccination, surviving the virus, or a combination of both on Dec 2022. 9 in 10 Americans under age 18 survived COVID-19 at least once through Dec 2022. Having antibodies from a prior infection doesn't mean people are protected from future infections. Immunity weakens over time.

Mon Jul 10. Shopped at Valley Fair mall, Costco, and Marukai. Got gas. Went to Bank Of America. Costco was busy.

Tue Jul 11. A friend who is fully vaccinated and updated on boosters tested positive for COVID-19. He consistently wore his mask.

Humans and wild deer transmitted and spread mutated variants at least three times. 26 states and Washington, D.C. were the geographical areas from Nov 2021 to Apr 2022.

Thur Jul 13. The US Department Of Health And Human Services (HHS) said the next vaccines are entering through the commercial market instead of through the US government in fall 2023. The three companies' latest vaccines targeting the current Omicron variant XBB.1.5 is available in Sep 2023 after the CDC recommendation and the Food And Drug Administration (FDA) authorization.

The CDC provides access to vaccines for people who don't have health insurance. Uninsured children receive free vaccines at no cost through the Vaccines For Children Program.

Mon Jul 17. Shopped at The Home Depot. A small number of customers and employees wore masks.

Deaths from COVID-19 declined to pre-pandemic levels. New treatments for COVID-19 hospital patients were a factor. Hospitalizations in CA are the lowest since the beginning of the pandemic.

The US Department Of HHS suspended the Wuhan Institute Of Virology access to federal funding. The lab failed to provide biosafety protocols and security measures documentation. Federal funding stopped in Jul 2020. A longer term ban is possible if the institute doesn't respond with the documentation.

The lab is a possible virus source. The US and international public health organizations criticize China and the lab for stonewalling their investigations. The COVID-19 origin remains unsolved.

The World Health Organization (WHO) estimated 7,000,000 died globally.

Fri Jul 21. Ran errands at Winchester Auto Parts and Costco.

The CDC said the COVID-19, flu, and Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV) spread is currently low. However, there is a slight increase in both positive cases and emergency room visits. The hospitalizations decline is stalled. The Omicron subvariants XBB is prevalent. The WHO identified the subvariant EG.5 increasing in prevalence globally. The three vaccines RSV, flu, and an updated COVID-19 are available in fall 2023.

Sat Jul 22. Morning shopping at Kinokuniya Bookstore, Mitsuwa, Nikaku Animart, Nijiya, and Valley Fair mall. Family dinner at Happy Sashimi.

Fri Jul 28. The CDC reported wastewater data analysis showed an increase in coronavirus particles in early Jul.

Shopped at Smart & Final.

Mon Jul 31. The US Department Of HHS announced the Office Of Long COVID Research And Practice to research long COVID affecting up to 23 million people. The research is operated by The National Institute Of Health. There are two clinical trials to test long COVID-19 treatments. 900 patients are enrolled in the study named RECOVER-VITAL. The patients take Paxlovid for 25 days. The second is named RECOVER-NEURO. The patients are treated for long COVID-19 symptoms such as brain fog, memory problems, fatigue, headaches, and loss of taste and smell.

Daily Life Discoveries

Blogger's Note: May is pic month. I'm catching up posting pics from my smart phone. Enjoy!

No need to be cautious driving at closed retail buildings. Be cautious pumping gas from a slow pump and placing objects in front of a window on a sunny day. Wear gloves to protect our hands from cautious harm. We need sanitizers because we can't wear gloves all the time. Men must keep their important body parts clean without using sanitizers and comfortable for wearing underwear. Costs are increasing for pizzas and new traffic lights.

Approximately 2/3 of Americans are fully vaccinated. Approximately 1/2 of Americans are eligible for the first booster and didn't get it. Evidence is limited a fourth shot benefited the person. The CDC recommended the second booster as an option.

Wed Mar 30. Biden announced enough vaccine supply for the people eligible for the second booster. There is not enough supply to guarantee free vaccines for all Americans in the fall. Biden requested Congress to pass a $22.5B COVID-19 funding bill.

Applications for state assistance ended today under the state's Emergency Rental Assistance Program.

Top Ten Plus Seven Equals Top Seventeen Unprofessional, Bold, Stupid, Nonexpert, Who Knows, Possible Predictions

Are these predictions a joke? Are these predictions serious? Are these predictions a waste of time reading? I let the reader choose. One crazy, weird, and unlikely prediction I hope the reader doesn't experience is all hell breaks loose. A person experiences a day everything is out of his or her control. Everything is outside his or her comfort zone. Here are the top ten plus seven equals top seventeen predictions:

17. $10.00 Per Gallon Gas. I predict one gas station charges $10.00 a gallon anywhere in the US.

16. A terrorist attack succeeds in a developed country impacting the world. I hope the prediction never comes true.

15. Another Pandemic. There are too many people. More people live closer to each other such as high density housing. More people become unhealthy. More people live with underlying health conditions affecting their immune system. More people give viruses more chances to infect more people.

14. All schools add an extra year. The old school system is obsolete. Elementary school pre-kindergarten is mandatory before kindergarten. Junior high schools add a fourth year for grades 6-9. High schools add a fifth year for grades 10-14. There is too much to learn. Expectations are too high. A rising tide raises all boats. Students need more time. School is a full time job. No more summer vacations. Schools are year-around. Parents, school administrators, and the government need more patience.

13. Social Security is going to be bankrupt. More money is paid out to senior citizens than money funding Social Security. The Federal Government must be bold to pass laws to increase money flowing to the social program.

12. Increase Homelessness. More people are going to be homeless globally. There are not enough resources to help them. There are not enough resources to slow down the homelessness rate. The cost of living increases.

11. Too Big To Fail. The global big name companies. The top Fortune 500 companies. The top of the top can't fail. These companies are built to last doing everything legal, border line legal, border line illegal, anything. AT&T, Wal-Mart, NFL, Cisco, Bank Of America, Chase, Google, banks, tech, finance, governments, manufacturing, etc. If any of the above fail, then the impact affects many people in many countries.

10. Work And Life Balance Is False. More people work more hours. The 40 hour work week is outdated. More people work after hours at home. More people work during the weekends.

9. Increase Unemployment. The job market is tight indefinitely. More people can't find work. People graduate school, college, or a trade school every year. The supply of workers increases. There are not enough opportunities to hire new graduates. More people delay retirement. More jobs are eliminated by technology such as robots and automation.

More people are not going to succeed. Life is zero-sum. The world is zero-sum. The size of the pie is always the same. There are people who fail no matter what. There are unsuccessful people no matter what. Many works hard and follow their dreams. Few succeed. Many times something happens beyond their control they become unsuccessful. Blame life. Life is not fair.

8. People continue to hurt other people. Divorces, abuses, assaults, alcoholics, cheats, dishonesty, DUIs, and drug addicts. People make the same mistakes. People don't learn. History repeats infinitely.

7. The average IQ decreases. More people are dumb. More people watch TV and play video games. Life is too easy, yet too complicated.

6. Increase Conservative. More people are scared. More people are afraid of losing. More people are less daring. There is more caution. More people are politically correct.

5. Increase Depression. More people are lonely. More people have poor social skills. More people feel isolated. Today's Information Age living increases anxiety. There is too much screen time on phones and computers.

4. Too Hot. Global warming. Planet Earth is getting hotter. Surface temperatures are increasing. There are more natural disasters including wildfires, hurricanes, and droughts. Countries must be bold to pass laws to curb climate destruction by setting limits.

3. The fight against social injustice never ends. There is preferential treatment. Racism, discrimination, and prejudice existed in the past. Racism, discrimination, and prejudice are present. Racism, discrimination, and prejudice exist tomorrow. They continue throughout humankind.

2. Medical insurance dental insurance, and vision insurance increase indefinitely. There are too many people. There are not enough medical resources. Economics 101--supply and demand. The indefinite increase also apply to utilities gas, water, electricity, and sanitation.

1. Another Recession. There is going to be another recession after the COVID-19 global pandemic recession. The stock market is going to crash.

No More Driving Half Asleep

I drove tired or half asleep three times in my life. I share the three times once in July 2006 and twice in July 2007. All three times were either late night after midnight or early morning before sunrise. I was lucky all three times. The July 2006 happened from Anaheim, CA to Watsonville, CA driving with three friends starting at 7pm. I ate potato chips on Interstate 5 to stay awake. I reached from the driver's seat to the driver's side rear to eat one potato chip every five seconds. The third friend drove from San Jose to Hayward while I slept. I was fully awake driving myself home from Hayward to San Jose.

The first July 2007 happened from San Jose to Long Beach, CA driving with two friends starting around midnight. I drove half-asleep and dozing off on Interstate 5 after the Grapevine. My eyes closed briefly. Then my eyes opened wide. Repeated multiple times. Very scary. I took a nap after I refueled in Newhall, CA. One of my two friends who rode with me should have drove before the Grapevine. The third friend didn't have a driver's license.

The second July 2007 happened from Long Beach to San Jose driving solo starting around 10pm. I drove half-asleep without dozing off. My eyes never closed. It must have been adrenaline. I drove 90mph on Interstate 5 to arrive home faster. It must have been the speed rush, too. I drove dangerously fast on Highway 152 with its hills and two-lane curves. I never thought of taking a nap at a rest stop. My focus was arriving home fast. The biggest mistake was poor snacking. I stopped at a 24-hour gas station in Gilroy, CA for food. I had bottle water. I purchased sugary cake snacks. I thought eating sugar kept me awake. The snacks somewhat kept me awake. My stomach grumbled in Morgan Hill, CA. The correct snacks should have been beef jerky, trail mix, or peanuts and a healthier starch with less sugar such as bread or a roll. A Snickers candy bar was better than a Twinkie.

A lifetime promise is never drive fatigued. Never drive half asleep. Drive intelligently. Eat healthy. Bring healthy snacks. Minimize sugar on the road. Eat sugar foods away from the car.

Update On A Past Blog

I add more answers to the question Why Do I Write Blogs? on Dec 29, 2013. My initial answers included sharing my thoughts, sharing my opinions, and keeping my writing skills sharp.

Another initial answer was documenting my life as I improve my life. I want to elaborate. My documentation includes my maturity and my fortunate changes for the better. My past blogs I took life for granted. I was naive. I was an idiot. I was weak. I complained. I was arrogant. I didn't practice what I preached.

I'm not a psychologist. There are two types of depression. There is normal depression and there is chronic depression. A normal depression is a crabby day. Nothing went as planned. There was no flow. Bad luck. Bad timing. Feeling dreadful was short. No excuses. Desire and motivation remain strong.

A chronic depression is a person feels better without solving personal problems. The person doesn't solve problems. The person feels better forgetting personal problems. The person smiles when there is sympathy solicited or unsolicited. The unsolved personal problems cause depression again. There are excuses. There is no motivation. The rest is temporary. The recovery is incomplete.

Motivation is more important than knowledge. I'm cured from chronic depression. My blogs document the permanent recovery. I make intelligent mistakes. I don't live the past. The recovery deal is a person solves problems when he or she feels better.

Throwback Blog: Picture Time

Blogger’s Note: Throwback blogs are blogs from my past. I start posting past blogs reflecting what I wrote. It's like my "A Second Look" blogs for which I give myself feedback.

Today's throwback blog is titled Picture Time on Aug 3, 2011. I'm posting picture blogs one day ahead of the month of May. May is the month I blog pictures I took on my smart phone. The ten pics I posted were a decade ago between Jan 23, 2010 and May 22, 2010. A gas station sold gas at $2.99. Gas is cheaper today because of the economic slowdown due to COVID-19. I still play board games. Beyond Balderdash is my top ten favorite. There are more LED street lights. The last time I visited Japantown-San Francisco was 2014. I was a full-time student a decade ago earning an AA degree in Accounting. The store I purchased milk after classes closed; moreover, I stopped drinking milk in Mar 2017. How many Japanese stories specializing in anime close during the present economic slowdown? There are more LED lights in households. Nabisco bring back the Arrowroot Biscuits. The last pic I looked at the DVD/TV combo instead of the Dyson fan.

I forgot the last time I posted a picture blog. I have many pictures I took with my old cell phone. Posting pictures on my blog has been on the back of my mind. I take a break writing blogs by posting picture blogs. Enjoy!

Money And Life

Money buys life. There are costs to live. The minimum life payments are the basics. The bare necessities costs increase as we age and as time moves forward. I explain differently. The bare necessities costs increase because of inflation, overcrowding, and complexity. More costs are required to live in today's information age. More costs are required to maintain life. More costs are required to improve life.

There is no avoidance. Costs are mandatory. Costs are required. Payments are due daily to live a good life. Costs are another example life is X's and O's. Life is connected how life is lived daily with the X's. Life goes full circle with the O's. Life upgrades are inevitable. Life replacements are required. Goods break. Services are needed. Soap, towels, mattresses, food, taxes, transportation, phone, light bulbs, leisure, health including dental and medical, and utilities are examples. Similarly, raising children requires money. Money and life and raising children are another blog subject.

How about the systems? Medical, phone, insurance, rent or mortgage, and taxes. The systems are outdated. The systems are broken. The systems are stressed. The systems are overcrowded. The systems are another blog subject.

Update On A Past Blog

I said 2018 was a momentum year for 2019 in 2018 Year In Review. Three Consecutive Bad Years For The First Time in My Life. blog on Mar 9, 2019. Past momentum years or set-up years preceded good years except 2003 which was a no set-up year for a good 2004. 2018 was a set-up for a good 2019. 2019 is uneventful year-to-date. It's possible the 2018 set-up is incomplete. It's possible I need more set-up time. 2019 continues 2018. Perhaps, life is telling me I'm not ready for a good year. Perhaps, life is telling me the greatest year is coming soon. Continue the present path. Be patient.

SOMT: McDonald's Big Mac Combo $2.99 And Donut Shop Donuts $0.50

Blogger’s Note: SOMT stands for Sign Of My Times, an occasional blog sharing my thoughts how time changes life from when I was young to today.

The inspiration for today's blog was buying two donuts at a donut shop on May 2017. The last time I purchased donuts at the same donut shop was Oct 2014. The cost for two glazed donuts was $1.90. I paid $2.20 last month for two smaller sized glazed donuts.

I remember when retail prices, grocery prices, and restaurant prices were cheaper. Almost everyone agrees the past times were easier. Almost everyone agrees the past times were cheaper. People paid $2.99 for a Big Mac number one combo. Gas prices were in the $1.00-$2.00 per gallon, and people complained when prices broke $2.00 per gallon. Many homes owners never thought their homes reached a million dollars. Some of those homes are breaking the million dollar mark in hot real estate markets. Many landlords never thought their apartments reached a thousand dollars per month. Some of those apartments are breaking the thousand dollar mark in high demand markets. Movie matinee was $4.25. College education, medical insurance, and utilities are common knowledge prices are going up.

Prices are going up. Welcome to Economics 101. Supply and demand. Inflation. Cost of living increase. One can say prices are going down. One can say prices for medical care are cheaper. Better technology to run tests faster and more accurate decreases wait time for patients. New surgery techniques patients recover faster resulting in less time as a hospital inpatient. There are more over-the-counter drugs more powerful requiring fewer dosages.

One can say prices for operating all ground transportation are cheaper. Gas mileage is better. There are hybrid cars. Ground transportation innovates their durability lasts longer compared to 40 years ago. Desktop computers are cheaper such as bigger disk drive memory. Computer hardware lasts longer in durability and in more performance; for example, motherboards don't need a video card for basic desktop use. LED light bulbs are energy efficient costing pennies. The cost of backpacking equipment is going down because the durability lasts longer and equipment serves more functions. Flat panel television, clothing, and appliances are common knowledge prices have been going down.

Perspective determines whether we are living prices going up or prices doing down. Perspective is correct on both viewpoints. Costco's food court prices are the same since Costco opened their food courts.

Happy And Sad Beginning 2016 Summer

I was happy I have new outdoor equipment for my next adventure. I was sad the Golden State Warriors and the San Jose Sharks lost their championship games at their home stadiums. Keep cool watching videos indoors to avoid a head stroke and smoke polluting the air. My Safeway Club card helps me save on gas when I’m outdoors. Also, I know there are more off the counter foot products when I’m outdoors. If I need stronger medications, I go to a CVS Pharmacy in Target.

October First Time Not The Only Time

The first times: backpacking in Utah Eastern Standard Time, eating in a five star buffet, playing Mahjong on an automatic table, and entering a haunted house on Halloween. The 49ers playing at Levi’s Stadium was the second time I saw the team played live. It was the third time I played Mahjong (Riichi) in costume, first time during Halloween.
