Throwback Blog: A Second Look At 2010

Blogger's Note: Throwback blogs are blogs from my past. I start posting past blogs reflecting what I wrote. It's like my "A Second Look" blogs for which I give myself feedback.

Today's throwback blog is titled A Second Look At 2010 written on May 13, 2011. Today's blog started A Second Look blogs for which the title is somewhat self-explanatory. I looked at the previous year's blogs. They were not year-end reviews. I commented myself. I provided feedback to myself.

I second looked at my 2010, 2011, and 2012 blog years six months later in its next year. The six months later was changed to 12 months later thereafter. My year-end reviews started with the blog A Brief 2005 Year In Review And Not Jinxing 2006 written on Dec 23, 2005. I brought them back starting with Moment Of The Years written on Jan 14, 2016 which briefly reviewed years 1998-2015. The previous individual year-end reviews were written two or three months on its next year which started with 2016 Year In Review. Is 2016 or 2007 The Worst Year Of My Life? written on Feb 5, 2017. There are no new year's resolutions blogs.

Today's throwback blog is my second A Second Look. My first throwback blog A Second Look was Throwback Blog: A Second Look At 2015 written on Apr 28, 2024. Today's throwback blog is different. I take a third look at the nine blogs. I write my Second Feedback below the Link. I edit when appropriate.

A Second Look At 2010
Friday May 13, 2011

I'm taking a second look at my 2010 blogs to provide comments and feedback. Was I correct? Was I wrong? OMG, I wrote that--what was I thinking? Was it true? Did it happen? For the record, this blog is not a 2010 review. I don't believe in [year-end] reviews and new [year's] resolutions. I believe a person should evaluate and critique their lives daily and make changes immediately.

My goal is to learn from my mistakes, reinforce my lessons, remind myself my moments, and rethink again. I gathered all my 2010 blogs including my weekly De Anza blogs, read them, and posted my self-evaluation. I included the title, date, blog summary, and feedback. The link is provided to read the original blog entry.

Blog title: The State Of My Life
Date: Feb 25
Summary: I wrote there was a moment I felt depressed and out of control. Regardless, life continues day by day. There is no time to sulk. Do anything to regain control of your life and get out of being depressed.
Feedback: OMG, I wrote that! I must have been depressed to blog something depressing and sad in Feb. I remember from 2000-2004, March had always been my depressing month. I hope my Feb 2011 is not depressing. Given it's May 2011, March 2011 was a bad month. Hence, I continue to experience depressing days. We're human.
Link: http://ininblog.blogspot.com/2010/02/state-of-my-life.html
Second Feedback: It's normal to feel depressed. Don't use depression as an excuse to stop living life. If you feel better, then solve problems.

Blog title: De Anza Week Mar 22 2010
Date: Mar 26
Summary: I wrote my highlights for Winter '10 quarter at De Anza. I blogged my mistakes which were I didn't drop singing class and I should have stopped attending free salsa lessons.
Feedback: Continuing singing class was the worse choice I made in De Anza to date. The class failed to meet my expectations. The instructor lost her voice for three weeks. We had classes the instructor didn't feel like teaching.

I attended free salsa lessons too many times. It took too much time away for other important activities. There were times when one must stop his/her obligations. I had to stop attending the salsa lessons. Too much to do and, yes, gym was important to stay in shape.
Link: http://ininblog.blogspot.com/2010/03/de-anza-week-mar-22-2010.html
Second Feedback: Two life lessons worth reminding. First lesson: Quit when something is not working out. Second lesson: prioritize. It's okay to keep the foot on the accelerator. There are times the foot must be let go; otherwise, the engine overheats.

Blog title: How to Build a Lasting Relationship
Date: Apr 15
Summary: Zig Ziglar wrote an article how to build long term relationships. The point was, "Compromise is not denying right and wrong; it's admitting that both sides can have some right and both sides can have some wrong."
Feedback: Reading the article made me think about my guilty conscious indirectly related to the article. I fear that one mistake jeopardizes my relationship with my family and friends. The little mistakes are not a problem. I should know that we're human and we make mistakes big and small. I should also know that almost all mistakes don't lead to an immediate break up. I never experienced any breakup from a mistake I made.

On second thought, yes, I experienced a breakup. I was in 8th grade. It was the summer before I started my freshmen year in high school. I went on a date with my friend's ex-girlfriend. My friend and I started high school. He never spoke to me throughout our four years. I was in 8th grade and I was immature for a 13 year kid.
Link: http://ininblog.blogspot.com/2010/04/how-to-build-lasting-relationship.html
Second Feedback: Compromise is required for strong human relationships. On the other hand, don't be taken advantaged. Some humans don't get along with other humans. Nobody gets along with everybody.

Blog title: The Year Was 2007
Date: May 17
Summary: I blogged how 2007 is the worse year in my life. I wrote [a] Q&A as if I was interviewed by 60 minutes.
Feedback: Lol, I wrote a similar blog titled "2007 Was Actually A Bad Year" on Mon Oct 13, 2008. Click to read it: http://ininblog.blogspot.com/2008/10/2007-was-actually-bad-year.html.
Link: http://ininblog.blogspot.com/2010/05/year-was-2007.html
Second Feedback: 2016 is the worst year of my life. Read the blog 2016 Year In Review. Is 2016 or 2007 The Worst Year Of My Life? written on Feb 5, 2017.

Blog title: Bruce Lee Is The Man
Date: Oct 8
Summary: I paralleled Bruce Lee's philosophy with some of my top 30 blogs.
Feedback: I posted this blog to review Bruce Lee's famous quotes and how they match my top 30 blogs. Lee quoted he never reach achievement and "learning is boundless." I posted blogs reiterating that quote.

Side note: To view my top 30 blogs, click to read it: http://ininblog.blogspot.com/2008/12/300.html.
Link: http://ininblog.blogspot.com/2010/10/bruce-lee-is-man.html
Second Feedback: I wrote more Bruce Lee quotes in the Bruce Lee Was The Man Revisited blog on Nov 4, 2019. These quotes are from the movie Enter The Dragon.

Blog title: De Anza Week Oct 25, 2010
Date: Oct 28
Summary: I mentioned many students eat out instead of eating at home to save time and save money (arguable, eating out is cheaper).
Feedback: I looked at the nutrition information for a McDonald's Big Mac. That burger is fattening a frozen pizza is healthier. I promised myself I never eat a Big Mac for the rest of my life.
Link: http://ininblog.blogspot.com/2010/10/de-anza-week-oct-25-2010.html
Second Feedback: I broke the promise in 2011.

Blog title: Why I Think The San Francisco Giants Won The World Series
Date: Nov 5
Summary: I shared my thoughts why the San Francisco Giants won the 2010 World Series. It was all action.
Feedback: Manager Bud Black from the San Diego Padres won manager of the year which he deserved. Bruce Bochy outmanaged Texas Rangers' Ron Washington. Good luck to the 2011 San Francisco Giants defending their world championship. The team must seek better actions to win the World Series.
Link: http://ininblog.blogspot.com/2010/11/why-i-think-san-francisco-giants-won.html
Second Feedback: The Giants won two more championships in 2012 and 2014.

Blog title: De Anza Week Dec 6, 2010
Date: Dec 15
Summary: I wrote Fall '10 quarter was a bad quarter.
Feedback: Fall '10 really wasn't a bad quarter. Winter '10 was worse than Fall '10. Winter '11 is now the worse quarter.
Link: http://ininblog.blogspot.com/2010/12/de-anza-week-dec-6-2010.html
Second Feedback: I change the feedback. The Fall 2010 and the Winter 2010 quarters were good.

Blog title: Happy Life
Date: Dec 21
Summary: Happy people earn their happiness working hard, doing better, innovating and improving indefinitely, and living life. The happiness becomes real. Innovate infinitely for a happy life.
Feedback: If there are awards for best blogs, Happy Life blog is a final nominee. The blog reminds me never take life for granted. Happy life is not for people who sit on the sofa watching TV. Happy life is not for people who play video games 24/7 and given shelter, food, and clothing from someone else.
Link: http://ininblog.blogspot.com/2010/12/happy-life.html
Second Feedback: Happy Life is an all-time top blog. It's still true today.

Throwback Blog: Curses Are Meant To Be Broken

Blogger's Note: Throwback blogs are blogs from my past. I start posting past blogs reflecting what I wrote. It's like my "A Second Look" blogs for which I give myself feedback.

Today's throwback blog is titled Curses Are Meant To Be Broken written on Nov 5, 2010. I used Major League Baseball teams as examples curses were broken. The San Francisco Giants won two more World Series in 2012 and 2014. The Chiago Cubs won the 2016 World Series. The Cleveland Guardians, formerly the Cleveland Indians, continue waiting.

Here are recent first time franchise championships. I don't know their local franchise histories. I believe local fans say there were curses. The Texas Rangers won the 2023 World Series. The Denver Nuggets won the 2023 NBA Finals. The Florida Panthers won the 2024 Stanley Cup Finals.

The title is self-explanatory. Curses are meant to be broken. However, it's unfortunate some people can't or don't break their curses for reasons beyond their control. Blame life.

The last time the Chicago Cubs won the World Series was in 1908, a span of 102 years which is the longest time a team hasn’t won. The second longest is the Cleveland Indians at 62 years. The third longest was the San Francisco Giants at 56 years. The key word is was.

The Giants won the 2010 World Series defeating the Texas Rangers four games to one. The win is the first time in San Francisco franchise history. The torture is over, and that includes torture Giants fans experienced during the last six weeks of the season. Edgar Renteria’s three run go-ahead home run in the bottom of the 7th inning is the Giants most memorable homerun in San Francisco Giants history. The championship is for the Willie Mays, Will Clark, and Barry Bonds eras. The win erases all the Giants curses. Here are some of curses I lived through:

*1987 NLCS. Candy Maldonado’s misplayed fly ball in Game 6 and Jose Oquendo hitting a homerun in Game 7 off Atlee Hammaker against the St. Louis Cardinals. Oquendo hit one homerun in the regular season.

*1989 World Series. Loma Prieta earthquake and the Oakland A’s swept.

*2002 World Series. Anaheim Angels’ Scott Spiezo’s three run go-ahead homerun against Felix Rodriguez in Game 6.

*2003 NLDS. J.T. Snow thrown out at the plate on the last play of the series against the Florida Marlins in Game 5.

Curses are meant to be broken. If you’re in a bad streak of sales, dates, homework and tests scores, interviews for a job, burning cooked dinners, or buying bad goods, don’t worry about it. Don’t give up! Curses are meant to be broken.

Side note: The Boston Red Sox’s broke their curse in 2004.

Top Ten Plus Two Equals Top Twelve I Hate

Today's blog I give myself permission to hate. I give myself permission no spinning the hate to something positive. There's nothing wrong with hate. Hate may be too negative for some people. Hate may be bad towards other people. There are some people we hate. There are some moments we hate. There are some ideas we hate. There are some objects we hate. There are some opinions we hate. Be honest. Nobody enjoys everything. Nobody approves everyone. We like some. We hate some.

There was a company located in Palo Alto, CA I worked for two days in Sep 2014. The two days were the worst days of my life as of today. The business activity was border line illegal. I emailed I quit to the manager and human resources manager the evening of my second day. I felt sorry for the uneducated and the unfortunate who needed the job to make money. The top ten plus two equals top twelve are nothing compared to the two days in Sep 2014.

12. The Academy Awards Best Picture Winners. The incorrect Oscar winners for Best Picture is an opinion hate. La La Land should have won over Moonlight in 2016. Saving Private Ryan should have won over Shakespeare In Love in 1998. E.T.: The Extra-Terrestrial should have won over Gandhi in 1982. Raiders Of The Lost Ark should have won over Chariots Of Fire in 1981. Star Wars IV should have won over Annie Hall in 1977. Taxi Driver or All The President's Men should have won over Rocky in 1976. The Graduate should have won over In The Heat Of The Night in 1967.

11. Anime Expo 2000. One of the worse anime conventions in the history of anime conventions. An anime convention held in Disneyland was trouble the second anime, convention, and Disney were mentioned together. Some Anime Expo attendees said Anime Expo 2000 never happened.

10. My Sister's Ex's. Full disclosure. All of my sister's ex's were losers. Most of them were idiots.

9. 2002 World Series Game 6. My San Francisco Giants vs. Anaheim Angels. Giants up 3-2 entering Game 6 at Anaheim. Giants lead 5-0 at the bottom of the seventh inning. Scott Spiezio hit a three-run home run off relief pitcher Felix Rodriguez who relieved starting pitcher Russ Ortiz. I didn't like Rodriguez. The Angels trailed 5-3 at the bottom of the eighth inning scored three runs to lead 6-5. Angels won Game 6 and won Game 7 to win the 2002 World Series.

8. Dust. I hate vacuuming dust. It's like I vacuumed dust one day. The dust came back days later.

7. Hoarding. Self-explanatory. Some people have too much junk. Too much junk requires additional time wasted to care for useless items.

6. Fakers. If you don't know it, then you don't know it. Faking something makes a person look stupid. Don't be stupid. Learn it. Research it. Ask for help.

5. Insincerely. There are some people who don't appreciate help. There are some ashamed people. There are some unkind people. I stay away from insincere people.

4. Waste Food. Self-explanatory. Buy what you need. Eat what you can. Be grateful what you have.

3. My Second Company I Worked After College. I experienced a common business wisdom: Bad companies don't exists--bad management exists. The real estate brokers were good. My co-worker in my department was an idiot. Management ignored problems hoping they disappeared. They didn't disappear resulting in staff departures.

Another wisdom I learned was have nothing, do nothing, get nothing, be nothing, and people treat you like nothing. My department manager was fired for doing nothing.

2. Job Hiring. I blame the job hiring system. A computer programmer who knows seven programming languages and acts like a jerk is more likely to be hired than a computer science college graduate. Nobody wants to train new employees. Companies want plug & play on day 1. Today's complex job hiring system is not your parent's and grandparent's job hiring system. Forget the old school good smile, good communication skills, and can-do attitude.

There are plenty of qualified and deserving domestic workers available for employment. There are too many incompetent workers employed.

Honorable mention: hot days. I sweat too easy. I sunburn too easy. There are more hot days because of climate change.

1. Me From The Day I Was Born To Sat Oct 4, 2008. I hated myself. I took life for granted. I was weak. I was naive. I was a wimp. I was immature.

I allow a positive spin. I was lucky on Sat Oct 4, 2008. I realized I must grow up. My life changed forever. The results were immediate. I purchased new clothes. I built a new desktop PC. I read 75% fiction books and 25% non-fiction books instead of 75% non-fiction books and 25% fiction books. I followed gym workout plans. I purchased a new mattress. I started to correct past mistakes. I started to catch up what I missed.

Update On A Past Blog

My retail rotation was adapted when I worked in retail jobs. Workers rotate shifts. Workers rotate responsibilities. I rotate my activities regardless of importance. My retail rotation balances my life. My retail rotation reduces stress.

I eliminate my retail rotation. I wrote about the incorrect retail rotation My Own Commentary On The Daily Life Of Raymond Mar written on Jul 31, 2013. I corrected the retail rotation I Corrected My Retail Rotation written on Dec 13, 2021. There is no retail rotation. There are priorities. Priorities can be rotated. I make a judgement call. First things first. Take everything one at a time. Multi-tasking can succeed in job interviews. Multi-tasking can fail in practice.

Are We Doing Too Much?

Time is unchanged since time was discovered. There are 60 minutes in one hour. There are 24 hours in one day. There are seven days a week. What is changed? We do more per day. There is more to do. There is too much to do.

Add everything up. We see the results. We experience the results. We witness other people's results. Stress. Overwhelm. Frustration. Mental health is affected such as memory problems and confusion. Physical health is affected such as fatigue and increased sickness. Emotional health is affected such as impatience, more haste, and rudeness. Spiritual health is affected such as less sleep. Financial health is affected spending more money to solve more problems which could have been prevented.

Welcome to today's Information Age life. We are expected to do more with less. We must complete responsibility one. We must complete responsibility two. We must complete responsibility three. We must complete responsibility n. There is a fear of missing out. There is a fear of falling back. There is a fear of being behind. There is a fear of missed opportunities.

There is no right or wrong. Be prepared to accept the sacrifices doing too much. Be prepared to reject the alternatives doing too much. More people are doing too much the bad way. Few people are doing too much the good way.

A Reminder

We forget maintenance. We forget personal checkups. We forget self-care. We forget priorities for which some responsibilities assigned a priority is not a priority. We forget ourselves.

Here is a reminder for those who forgot. Sleep. Eat healthy--avoid the processed foods. Read a book. Breathe. Clean the residence. Listen to music. There is no need to accomplish these every day except meals, breathe, and sleep. These reminders are old school which still works.

Update On A Past Blog

Everyone did everything correctly. Dot the i's. Cross the t's. Triple checked. Support staff proofread. Passed the trials. Unsuccessful at the end. The 2021 Los Angeles Dodgers did everything correctly. The 2021 San Francisco Giants did everything correctly. The start of the second half of the 2021 Major League Baseball season the Dodgers were one game behind the Giants for first place in the National League West Division. The second place Dodgers went 48-21 (.696). The first place San Francisco Giants went 49-22 (.690). The Dodgers gained zero games against the Giants. The Giants prevented the Dodgers from being tied or becoming the second place team winning one more game than the Dodgers. The Dodgers were 100% successful. The Giants were 100% successful. I could switch the order mentioning the Giants first and the Dodgers second. The switch or the reverse is logically correct. I elaborate the teams on Oct 16, 2021 in the blog The 2021 San Francisco Giants 107 Wins Plus 2 Equals 109 Wins. I also mention a counterintuitive decision Dodgers Manager Dave Roberts started a weaker pitcher instead of a stronger pitcher for Game 5 in the National League Division Series because if the Dodgers gave up runs to the Giants, then it's better to give up runs earlier in the game instead of later in the game. There are more innings for the Dodgers to catch up.

Black Friday 2022

There was one Black Friday 2022 shopping on Fri Nov 25. Most of my Black Friday shopping was online. I picked up most of my orders at the retail stores. All retail stores online and offline offered fewer Black Friday deals during the Thanksgiving week. Black Friday 2022 was my worse Black Friday since I started shopping Black Friday in 2004. One Cyber Monday 2022 purchase was cheaper than Black Friday 2022.

Tue Nov 22

Samsung 256GB FIT Plus USB 3.1 flash drive at NewEgg. The flash drive was backordered.

Thur Nov 24

Two Head & Shoulders 23.7oz shampoo bottles purchased online at Walgreens.

A three pack Calvin Klein classic boxers underwear purchased online at Kohl's.

Workout socks, casual socks, and two performance shorts purchased online at Under Armour. Socks and shorts were delivered.

Fri Nov 25

Two Sara Lee frozen pound cakes at Grocery Outlet. The family went back in time when we ate Sara Lee pound cake at my grandparent's house in Santa Barbara, CA. The price wasn't Black Friday pricing. The price has been the same afterwards.

Sun Nov 27

Selected video games in the Valve Complete Pack for my Steam account. The purchase completed my Valve Complete Pack.

Mon Nov 28

Vanicream 3.9oz soap purchased online at Walgreens. The store I selected for pickup fulfilled half my order.

Hotel Collection 500 thread count Micro Cotton Queen bed set purchased online at Macy's for the second time. The Cyber Monday sale price was cheaper than the Black Friday sale price. It was the first time I experienced Cyber Monday cheaper than Black Friday. The Black Friday purchase must be returned when I picked up my Cyber Monday purchase. I couldn't refuse pick up.

Update On A Past Blog

The San Francisco Giants backed out of the 13-year, $350 million contract offer with all-start shortstop Carlos Correa. The Giants cancelled the introductory press conference on Tue Dec 20. Correa signed a 12-year, $315 million contract with the New York Mets later in the day. A professional sports media opinion said the Giants can't sign superstars. The Giants can't sign all-star talent. The Giants becoming a cheap franchise is debatable. Was the Giants feeling buyer's remorse?

The Giants are risk-adverse. The Giants are the runner ups. The Giants are the big free agents' second choice: Carlos Rodon, Kodai Senga, Carlos Correa, Aaron Judge, Brandon Nimmo, Dansby Swanson, Bryce Harper, Shohei Ohtani, and Giancarlo Stanton. The second choice reminded me of the blog I Can't Win The Freedom Championship written on Jul 18, 2021. The Giants can't win the big prize free agent(s) for whatever reasons.

The Real Life Felix Felicis

Felix Felicis is a potion from the Harry Potter series by J.K. Rowling. The drinker becomes lucky for a period of time. Everything attempted becomes successful. The potion is also called "Liquid Luck." The drinker must not take Felix Felicis in excess which causes giddiness, recklessness, and dangerous overconfidence.

I share three real Felix Felicis. The first is a moment. The second is a partial Felix Felicis in a calendar year. The third is a complete Felix Felicis in a calendar year. Good luck was excellent. Life flowed my way. I could do anything successfully. Good fortunes came to me.

The Felix Felicis moment happened Apr 2-6, 2017. I admitted myself to the emergency room at O'Connor Hospital for severe stomach pains. I was diagnosed with Acute Gallstone Pancreatitis. I required two surgeries which were successful. The first surgery was Endoscopic Retrograde Cholangio Pancreatography which removed gallstones. The second surgery was Laparoscopic Cholecystectomy which removed my gallbladder. The five days at O'Connor went smoothly. The emergency room was quiet. All tests, checkups, and follow-ups went as schedule. The only delay was waiting for the doctors to discharge me. My floor where I stayed was quiet except my last night. The victims of a major car accident stayed around my room. One of them shared my double occupancy room. They were quiet and problem free. One may say I'm still paying back the Felix Felicis Apr 2017 today.

The Felix Felicis partial calendar year happened in 2010. I attended De Anza College to earn an A.A. degree in Accounting. I earned A's in all my classes. I rented a DVD movie from the library once a week. The two anime conventions I attended were perfect. I went to a Paul McCartney concert. I played StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty. The San Francisco Giants Won the 2010 World Series which was their first in San Francisco franchise history. I rode the San Francisco cable car for the first time.

Felix Felicis didn't work for my Beginning Singing class in Winter Quarter 2010 and my Cost Accounting class in Spring Quarter 2010. I should have dropped both classes. The Beginning Singing class didn't meet my expectations. It was a waste of time. The instructor for the Cost Accounting was ineffective. I should have taken the class at a future quarter with a different instructor.

The Felix Felicis complete calendar year happened in 2005. I visited Washington, Oregon, and British Columbia, Canada for the first time. I purchased my first laptop which was a Dell Inspiron 8600 on sale. I created my Innovating Common Knowledge blog.

Side note: 2009 can be the Felix Felicis complete calendar year instead 2005. I graded 2009 and 2005 an A+ from Grading My Past Years blog on Aug 13, 2018. The difference is 2009 went downhill in Dec.

San Francisco Giants Catcher Buster Posey Retires His Way

Buster Posey announced his retirement on Thur Nov 4, 2021. He played all 12 years of his professional baseball career with the San Francisco Giants from 2009-2021. Posey retired happily. Posey retired on his terms. His awards and accolades below:

*2012, 2013, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2021 All Star
*2010 Rookie Of The Year
*2012 Batting Title
*2012 NL MVP
*2012, 2014, 2015, 2017 Silver Slugger
*2016 Gold Glove
*2012, 2021 Wilson Defensive Player Of The Year
*2012, 2021 NL Comeback Player Of The Year
*2010, 2012, 2014 World Series Champion

My favorite Posey moments are his 2012 National League Division Series Game 5 grand slam against the Cincinnati Reds, 2012 World Series Game 4 two-run game leading home run, and his 17th regular season home run against the Arizona Diamondbacks in his 2010 rookie season. I was joyful when the Giants recalled Posey in 2010. He became the starting catcher, battled clean up in the starting lineup, and an instant spark in the clubhouse. A true professional.

Buster Posey wrote a message to the Giants fans. The Giants posed the message on its Twitter page @SFGiants A message from Buster. The message is below:

To the best fans in baseball . . .

You have most likely heard by now that I have decided to step away from the game and officially retire.

As you can imagine, this was not an easy decision. Kristen and I spent a lot of time discussing and weighing what would be best for our family. I ultimately felt that now is the right time to start a new chapter in my life.

Throughout my life, I have been incredibly fortunate to play the greatest game in the world. Not many kids who start playing baseball at the age of five have the opportunity to continue to play the game they love beyond Little League or even high school. I was one of the lucky ones, and I am truly grateful for all that the game has given to me and my family. It has taken me from my hometown in Georgia to Florida State University to ultimately San Francisco, with many stops in between. The people I’ve met, the experiences I’ve shared with my teammates and family are beyond what I expected. Our family has created a lifetime of memories and lifelong friendships.

During the press conference, I had the opportunity to thank the countless number of people who have supported me throughout my career - Kristen, our children Addi, Lee, Ada and Livvi, my parents, grandparents, siblings, teammates, coaches, training and clubhouse staff, the Giants ownership group and front office. They were the driving force who helped me and inspired me to make my baseball dream a reality.

And, of course, our great fans. How do you thank a fan base? The Giants fan base is more than just fans. It's a community. That sense of community is something we as players can feel in the ballpark when we take the field each night. I hope you have felt it too.

I hope over the years you've been able to see in our teams the sense of pride we all take in coming together each day working hard and pushing each other toward a common goal. Oddly, some of the best times when you look back are the challenging times. When you're going through them they don't tend to be very fun, but when you get on the other side you realize that you've grown from these experiences. I think that's one of the best things about sports and hopefully something a lot of fans can also identify with.

Over the years, I've heard a lot of stories from different fans about what the Giants mean to them. Or, what baseball means to them. When I think back on those stories, there's usually one common denominator -- family and friends. When I was a child, one of my earliest baseball memories was Sid Bream of the Atlanta Braves sliding into home plate to beat the Pittsburgh Pirates in Game Seven of the NLCS to send the Braves to the World Series. To be able to share in the joy with my grandad that Christmas as he proudly displayed a picture of Sid Bream sliding into home on his t-shirt is a memory that I'll never forget.

I'm sure there are kids out there today -- who might actually be adults now -- and parents, grandparents, aunts and uncles who can remember exactly where they were when in 2010 Edgar Renteria hit the game-winning homer in Texas that led the Giants to their first World Series title since moving to San Francisco. Or when Sergio Romo stood on the mound, shook me off from throwing a slider (which still scares me to this day) and snuck a fastball past Miguel Cabrera to clinch the second title in three years. Or when Madison Bumgarner came out of the bullpen in Kansas City in Game Seven and 45,000 people went deathly silent because they knew at that point, the World Series was over. Or you remember where you were when Matt Cain stood on the back of the mound and gazed up at the crowd, taking it all in before he recorded the final out of the first ever perfect game in Giants franchise history.

To me, this is what baseball is all about. It's a lot more than just winning or losing a game – although the wins do feel a lot better. It's about time spent with family on countless nights and days pulling for your team, riding the emotions of the highs and the lows. It's ultimately about the people who have come along with you for the ride and making great memories together.

I am so very humbled to have played a part in some of those memories. Thank you for welcoming me into the Giants community 12 seasons ago and for supporting me every step of the way. I look forward to creating new memories of my own and sharing them with my children as I pull for the Giants for years to come.

With deep admiration and appreciation,

Buster Posey

The 2021 San Francisco Giants 107 Wins Plus 2 Equals 109 Wins

Choose your perspective. Choose your viewpoint. Choose your narrative. Spin it any way. Multiple interpretations. There are multiple sides of the story. The second place Los Angeles Dodgers went 48-21 (.696) after the 2021 all-star break. The first place San Francisco Giants went 49-22 (.690) after the 2021 all-star break. The Dodgers gained zero games against the Giants. Or the first place San Francisco Giants went 49-22 (.690) after the 2021 all-star break. The second place Los Angeles Dodgers went 48-21 (.696) after the 2021 all-star break. The Giants prevented the Dodgers from being tied or becoming second place winning one more game than the Dodgers. Fair or unfair. It's life.

The Giants won 107 regular season games which is a franchise record. The Dodgers won 106 regular season games which tied the franchise record. The 2021 National League West division was an outlier. The Dodgers won their wild card game against the St. Louis Cardinals to face the Giants in the National League Division Series (NLDS). The Dodgers and Giants each won two games out of a best of five games. The teams entered Game 5 with 109 total wins. The Dodgers won Game 5 with a score of 2-1 advancing to the National League Championship Series (NLCS) against the Atlanta Braves.

Game 5 ended on a controversial check swing called strike three. The umpire made an incorrect call. Bad calls happen all the time in competitive sports. Umpires are human beings like you and me. Humans make mistakes. Bad luck and bad timing the bad calls went against the Giants. Giants lost. Move on. It's life.

History was made in Major League Baseball. The Giants and the Dodgers played in the postseason against each other for the first time. The ending narrative was ugly. The series ended on a controversy.

The umpire bad calls didn't cause the Giants to lose the NLDS. The Giants batted .182 overall. The Giants batted .125 with runners in scoring position. The low batting averages were not going to get it done. Were the Giants fatigued? I didn't see fatigue. The Dodgers earned the series win. The Dodgers were the deeper team. Their were more playmakers in the Dodgers team compared to the Giants team. Mookie Betts manufactured a run in Game 5. Max Scherzer saved Game 5 which was Manager Dave Roberts correct decision instead of Kenley Jansen. Jansen had blown saves in past postseason games.

Moreover, the Giants failed to adjust to the home plate umpire's wide strike zone. Adjustments are part of daily life. Some adjustments we like. Some adjustments we don't like.

Finally, the Dodgers changed their Game 5 starting pitcher from Julio Urias to Corey Knebel. Roberts choose a bullpen pitcher using the opener pitching strategy. Why did Roberts changed the starting pitcher? All sports analysts and sports journalists I read didn't know why. My intuition was counterintuitive. If the Dodgers wanted to give up runs to the Giants, then give up runs early. Urias pitches in the middle to late innings to lower the chances of the Giants scoring runs. If the Dodgers trailed early, then the Dodgers had more innings to score runs. My question is why give up runs early in the game. No team wants to give up runs. On the other hand, don't waste time figuring out something which doesn't make sense. Regardless, the opener pitching strategy didn't affect the outcome of the game. Roberts texted Giants Manager Gabe Kapler the night before Game 5 he changed the starting pitcher. The text was an example of a John Wick profession courtesy.

Update On A Past Blog

The Washington Nationals lost 97 games. The Pittsburgh Pirates lost 101 games. The Texas Rangers lost 102 games. The Arizona Diamondbacks and Baltimore Orioles each lost 110 games. The teams were tanking. I wrote Is Tanking The New Way To Succeed? on Oct 16, 2020. These teams believed a mediocre record is not worth the effort. Tank the season. Take advantage of the upcoming offseason high draft picks for the worse standings.

There's An A In Overachieving

The 2020 American League West Champions Oakland A's were defeated by the Houston Astros on Thur Oct 8, 2020. The A's defeated the Chicago White Sox in the Wild Card round for their first postseason series win since 2006 when the A's played in the American League Championship Series against the Detroit Tigers. The A's has lost 10 of its past 11 postseason series. The bullpen was the A's strength with the lowest ERA in the major leagues at 2.72. On the other hand, the starting pitching ranked 16th in the major leagues at a 4.49 ERA. Poor starting pitching resulted in a fatigued bullpen. The team batting average .225 was the second lowest in the American League.

One superstar plus good coaching plus good management or good ownership equals a championship. 1+1+1=3. The 1+1+1=3 odds improve to win a championship are higher than teams with a sum less than three. The superstar is a high impact player with leadership, charism, highest performance on the field, strong, and intelligent. There have been professional sport teams following the 1+1+1=3 formula in history. Here are some examples below:

*Joe Montana+Bill Walsh+San Francisco 49ers=three Super Bowl championships in the 1980s
*Michael Jordan+Phil Jackson+Chicago Bulls=six NBA Finals championships in the 1990s
*Buster Posey+Bruce Bochy+San Francisco Giants=three World Series championships in five years between 2010-2014
*Derek Jeter+Joe Torre+New York Yankees=five World Series championships 1996, 1998-2000, 2009
*Sidney Crosby+Mike Sullivan+Pittsburg Penguins= back to back Stanley Cup championships 2016 and 2017 for the first time in the salary cap era
*Stephen Curry+Steve Kerr+Golden State Warriors=five consecutive NBA Finals appearances 2015-2019 winning three
*Tom Brady+Bill Belichick+New England Patriots=six Super Bowl championships 2002, 2004, 2005, 2015, 2017, and 2019

There are 1+1+1=3 examples of teams winning one championship. One championship is good enough in some cases.

*Russell Wilson+Pete Carroll+Seattle Seahawks=2014 Super Bowl Champions
*Patrick Mahomes+Andy Reid+Kansas City Chiefs=2020 Super Bowl Champions

The A's disagree with 1+1+1=3. The team have been overachievers 0+0+0=0. There are no superstars. Manager Bob Melvin should be fired. Ownership is cheap. The A's is a ball team with one of the lowest baseball payrolls. Ownership doesn't pay big contracts to superstar players. The A's develop their young talent, play the best young talent in the major league level with all-star performance, and acquire veteran free agents at the end of their careers. The offseason the A's trade their young all-start talent for new younger potential talent. Buy low, sell high. The A's baseball team plan is Moneyball. The Moneyball method is using statistical analysis and paying bargain contracts for a winning baseball team explained in plain English. Maybe 50 years from now the Moneyball method wins a World Series Championship for the Oakland A's. Prove me wrong.

KGMZ 95.7 FM The Game requested sports fans to submit their top ten best Bay Area professional athletes. The Game's sports journalists share their lists starting Mon Jul 6, 2020. Here's my top ten list I submitted.

10. Madison Bumgarner, Giants. The 2014 World Series was all Bumgarner. He needs a no-hitter for his career.

9. Joe Thornton, Sharks. A future hall of famer in the Sharks organization and in the NHL.

8. Ronnie Lott, 49ers. Defense wins football games. He was part of the glory years during the 1980s.

7. Klay Thompson, Warriors. Thompson is playoffs dependable game 6 Klay including the 2016 Game 6 Western Conference Finals vs. Oklahoma City Thunder.

6. Rickey Henderson, A's. The greatest leadoff hitter in the history of the MLB. He's the all-time leader in stolen bases.

5. Barry Bonds, Giants. He's the all-time leader in home runs.

4. Jerry Rice, 49ers. The greatest wide receiver in the history of the NFL. He's the all-time leader in touchdown receptions.

3. Willie Mays, Giants. His career numbers stand the test of time: 660 HR, .302 BA, 1,903 RBI, two-time MVP, 24-time all-star, and 12 Gold Gloves.

2. Joe Montana, 49ers. Children growing up in the 1980s needed to know Joe Montana to be a 49ers fan.

I add the honorable mentions for my blog. They're the following: Rick Barry, Warriors; Frank Gore, 49ers; Shane Lechler, Raiders; Tim Lincecum, Giants; Patrick Marleau, Sharks; Willie McCovey, Giants; Buster Posey, Giants; Joe Staley, 49ers; Chris Wondolowski, Earthquakes; and Steve Young, 49ers.

1. Stephen Curry, Warriors. He revolutionized basketball.

Edit Fri Jul 10, 2020: I made a mistake. An example of poor research and an example my memory is not perfect. Marcus Allen played for the Raiders in Los Angeles. I thought he played for the Raiders in Oakland before moving to Los Angeles. Allen is removed from the honorable mention. Rick Barry from the Warriors replaces Allen.

*Costco refuses the following items returned for a refund due to COVID-19: toilet paper, paper towels, sanitizing wipes, water, rice, and Lysol. Good idea. Screw the hoarders.

*The Movie Gigi On Marriage. Don't marry at once. Marry at last.

*Senior Sports Analyst Ray Ratto Shared A Story. Ratto is currently working at 95.7 The Game KGMZ-FM. He shared a story from his mentor Nick Peters when Ratto started his sports journalist career. Ratto asked Peters how do you work as a sports journalist. Peters said, "never show fear." Ratto interviewed former San Francisco Giants manager Frank Robinson. Robinson answered Ratto's initial questions with short answers. Ratto told Robinson if you don't want to do this, let's not do it. Ratto began to leave the room. Robinson replied, "What do you want to know?" Robinson tested Ratto if he was brave or a scary cat. Robinson had an ability to smell fear in a person. Here's an article The World According to Ray Ratto.

*Dr. Anthony Fauci People's 2020 Sexiest Man Alive. There are online petitions People magazine should award Dr. Fauci 2020 Sexiest Man Alive. I agree. Integrity, strength, intelligence, professional, confidence, and respect are sexy. Many men have few of the above or none of the above.

*Earn A Cake. The Question Is What Kind Of Cake. The cake is earned. A plain cake is delicious. Earn more. Add frosting. Complete more. Add the filling. Continue. Add fruit, candles, and whipped cream. Complete satisfactory and sincerely. Add happy birthday on the cake. 04/05/20 before I slept and after watching Harry Potter #3.

*I Promise My Dad I Date When I'm 35. I have a thought for the young men and young women who desire older men and older women. The younger men and younger women can wait to be older to find a lover at a matching older age.

*What Is The Secret To Find A Spouse? What is the secret to attract people? Be useful. Don't be a nobody. Don't be nothing. I knew the answer years ago from number 40 in my Top 40 Most Memorable Moments. Don't ask why it took me additional years to connect the dots.

*When Does The Fun Begin? My answer is when you're better. My answer is when you're getting stronger.

*A Thought On The Current President And Past Presidents. I start with President Bill Clinton from 1993-2000, continuing with President George W. Bush from 2001-2008, President Barrick Obama from 2009-2016, and ending with President Donald Trump from 2017-present. These presidents had or have an opportunity to end racism. They had or have an opportunity to end police brutality. Equal justice under the law is equal like a math equation. Likewise with Congress, state governors, courts, and The Supreme Court. Why is President Trump with less than one presidential term at fault for unequal social justice? Why is President Trump blamed for inequality? Why is President Trump accused of poor leadership? I welcome all opinions.

*Where Is The Source Of The Leaks? I'm not talking about water plumbing leaks. I'm talking about information leaks. The chances are the source originates from the dissatisfied party.

*I Play The Fantasy Game. Playing the fantasy game is like a hypothetical situation.

*How many years does it take to overcome a mid-life crisis? My intuitive answer is six years. The average length is six years. Personally speaking, I'm lucky I didn't experience a mid-life crisis. Or I already experienced a mid-life crisis I didn't realize which is solved.

*Are Geniuses Cynics? Geniuses think about problems. Geniuses create solutions. Geniuses are cynics by nature. Geniuses think about answers like breathing. They anticipate problems. The possible answers to the problems are infinite. They think bad to be good.

Ending 2019 With History To Remember Beginning 2020 With Luck

Blogger's Note: May is pic month. I'm catching up posting pics from my smart phone. Enjoy!

The newspapers end 2019 and begin 2020. There are three pics on President Donald Trump. Today is *fill in the blank* mat. The 2010 Bay Area sports decade is a brief substitute for no sports due to COVID-19. I can't visit The Ferry Building for the first time because od COVID-19. Some people with no breaks and bad luck can be worse due to COVID-19. Pic knowledge on tires, a physical dashboard instead of on a computer screen, and movie songs.

The Reader Takes Something Away With These Pics

Blogger's Note: May is pic month. I'm catching up posting pics from my smart phone. Enjoy!

Past architecture buildings and signs are remembered in time. Everyone must share their favorite music genres. All music is music. Ignorance is bliss. There is a safety reason never hide electrical outlets. Take advantage of retail deals. People can be winners losing more than winning. Today's COVID-19 is a reminder we take the outdoors for granted. On the other hand, some retail deals are terrible.

Life is a cycle. Out with the old, in with the new is a common life wisdom. Business professions know the business cycle. Sports fans know the sports cycle. The best anything does is maximize greatness long-term. Something else is being created to replace the best. The best anyone does is maximize greatness in the present. The best maintains their dominance.

The best can't control everything. There are circumstances beyond the best's control unfortunate moments result in losing dominance. The best can delay the life cycle going down by never settling. The best stays hungry.

Someone else is working to be the next best. The unknown businesses, companies, teams, and people are building their championships. One of them takes over their respective industries and professions being the next number ones. One of them becomes the new household names. Eventually the present best becomes the past best. The present best used all their resources. The future best vision is new changes, innovations, and new ideas. Time is up. Nothing lasts forever.
