Throwback Blog: Curses Are Meant To Be Broken

Blogger's Note: Throwback blogs are blogs from my past. I start posting past blogs reflecting what I wrote. It's like my "A Second Look" blogs for which I give myself feedback.

Today's throwback blog is titled Curses Are Meant To Be Broken written on Nov 5, 2010. I used Major League Baseball teams as examples curses were broken. The San Francisco Giants won two more World Series in 2012 and 2014. The Chiago Cubs won the 2016 World Series. The Cleveland Guardians, formerly the Cleveland Indians, continue waiting.

Here are recent first time franchise championships. I don't know their local franchise histories. I believe local fans say there were curses. The Texas Rangers won the 2023 World Series. The Denver Nuggets won the 2023 NBA Finals. The Florida Panthers won the 2024 Stanley Cup Finals.

The title is self-explanatory. Curses are meant to be broken. However, it's unfortunate some people can't or don't break their curses for reasons beyond their control. Blame life.

The last time the Chicago Cubs won the World Series was in 1908, a span of 102 years which is the longest time a team hasn’t won. The second longest is the Cleveland Indians at 62 years. The third longest was the San Francisco Giants at 56 years. The key word is was.

The Giants won the 2010 World Series defeating the Texas Rangers four games to one. The win is the first time in San Francisco franchise history. The torture is over, and that includes torture Giants fans experienced during the last six weeks of the season. Edgar Renteria’s three run go-ahead home run in the bottom of the 7th inning is the Giants most memorable homerun in San Francisco Giants history. The championship is for the Willie Mays, Will Clark, and Barry Bonds eras. The win erases all the Giants curses. Here are some of curses I lived through:

*1987 NLCS. Candy Maldonado’s misplayed fly ball in Game 6 and Jose Oquendo hitting a homerun in Game 7 off Atlee Hammaker against the St. Louis Cardinals. Oquendo hit one homerun in the regular season.

*1989 World Series. Loma Prieta earthquake and the Oakland A’s swept.

*2002 World Series. Anaheim Angels’ Scott Spiezo’s three run go-ahead homerun against Felix Rodriguez in Game 6.

*2003 NLDS. J.T. Snow thrown out at the plate on the last play of the series against the Florida Marlins in Game 5.

Curses are meant to be broken. If you’re in a bad streak of sales, dates, homework and tests scores, interviews for a job, burning cooked dinners, or buying bad goods, don’t worry about it. Don’t give up! Curses are meant to be broken.

Side note: The Boston Red Sox’s broke their curse in 2004.

New And Old Uncontrolled Chaos

Blogger's Note: May is pic month. I'm catching up posting pics from my smart phone. Enjoy!

Efficient maintenance is important for all objects. Be professional to earn happiness. Nobody controls problems caused by nature. On the other hand, opening a business at a location with a small amount of foot traffic creates future problems.

Update On A Past Blog

I repeat the last life lesson I wrote in Life Lessons Learned Playing Mahjong Riichi written on Mar 18, 2016. The last life lesson is luck. Accept luck as part of the game. Accept bad draws with stride. Accept giving up riichies with stride. There are no reasons to lose temper. An international student from Japan told me professional players who finished last place multiple times consecutively stopped playing for the rest of the day.

Connect The Dots Women Because The Relationship Is Over A While Back

I'm not a dating expert. I'm not a relationship expert. Common knowledge is more women end relationships than men. Why? I have an unprofessional answer. Men knows the relationship is over before women. Some men change their behavior treating their woman differently. Passive-aggressive behavior. Communicating jealously. Lower enthusiasm. Immature adult behavior or acting like a teenager. Desperate actions. Initiating loud disagreements. Being a contrarian. Seeing another woman or cheating is included. The honeymoon period is over. The men and women true colors are exposed.

Why does men keep seeing the women? Why does men keep quiet? Why doesn't men tell the women the relationship is over? I believe men hope for a miracle. I believe men hope the relationship recovers. I believe men are cowards not wanting to be the bad person to end the relationship. I believe men stay with the women just to be with the women. If the women end the relationship, then the relationship is over men ask no questions. I believe these men waiting for the women to end the relationship are weak, lack confidence, and poor self-esteem.

Strong, confident, and high self-esteem women end relationships with weak, lack confidence, and poor self-esteem men immediately. These women know what they're looking for. These women cut their losses. These women don't waste time with losers. The men's true colors are exposed. The women leave quickly. The women move on tomorrow. Likewise, for switching genders women to men in the paragraph.

Dermatitis And Good Years

The first time there was dermatitis on my hands was 2005. The second time was 2009. The third time was 2020. The fourth time was today. There was dermatitis between 2009 and 2019 for which I don't remember the exact dates. The 2005 and 2009 outbreaks I applied a prescription ointment; in particular, the 2009 there was dermatitis on my face and neck. Afterwards, I used the remaining prescription ointment or over the counter hydrocortisone ointment, especially in 2020. I purchased a different hydrocortisone cream for eczema and dermatitis earlier today because my regular hydrocortisone is too weak.

The three years I mentioned 2005, 2009, and 2020 were good years. I graded 2005 and 2009 both A+. I graded 2020 a B. You can read the blogs on years I graded Grading My Past Years and 2020 Year In Review. Is 2021 going to be a good year?

I'm aware of the small sample size. I'm aware the years between 2009 and 2019 are inconclusive. I'm aware correlation is not a causation. It seems every dermatitis requiring medication my year is good. It's coincidence.

Here's another correlation is not a causation. I'm job searching. I experience diarrhea days before or days after an in-person job interview since Nov 2017 as far back as I remember. I know the interview result from a toilet. 100% true prediction. I didn't get hire. The last job interview I avoided oily foods days before and days after. I also ate less. I got diarrhea. I didn't get hire. The job opening was back on the company's job portal.

Life is weird.

Delayed Equalizer

The COVID-19 global pandemic continues. Every day people are vaccinated. We hope for global herd immunity because people are tired living the pandemic life. What is the COVID-19 post-pandemic life? Your guess is as good as mine. Time will tell.

I have one guess. The post-pandemic life is closer to balance. COVID-19 is the equalizer. The equalizing is delayed. The equalizing is deferred. Be patient. I believe more people are impacted. Give it time. More balance is coming. The financial markets say otherwise there's no global recession. The economy news says less people are impacted; for example, fewer job losses are reported. I believe the COVID-19 economic slowdown impacted more people than reported. Is inflation the equalizer? Time will tell.

We hear the good news. There is still good news. Almost everyone shares the good moments on social media. We don't hear the bad news. There is still bad news. Almost nobody shares bad moments on social media. People who don't deserve the good life lose the good life. People who don't deserve the bad life hard work pays off. We see the fallout when life goes back to normal. The truth is revealed.

The Correction To The Correct Growing Up Part 2

Today's blog is an update on a past blog worth my time to blog the update on its own blog.

Update On A Past Blog

Three days ago Oct 4, 2020 was the 12th anniversary I realized I must grow up. My life changed forever. I immediately made changes big and small. The changes improved my life immediately.

I randomly reread two blogs related to my second growing up coincidentally. I grew up for the second time on Dec 6, 2012 Growing Up Part 2. I wrote, "[be] loose, joking around, having fun, smiling, socializing, yet there were professional and mature. Nobody complained. Nobody was a jerk, a bitch, and an asshole. . . . The lesson I learned is personality." Unfortunately, the lesson was false. I lived a life being too loose, joking around too much, having too much fun, uncontrol smiling, immature socializing, and not being a professional and not being mature.

I took back my Growing Up Part 2 on Oct 28, 2013 The Correct Growing Up Part 2. I acknowledged my life living with too much fun. I acknowledged I forgot my priorities. The correct second time growing up were reset my priorities, believe in myself, and be discrete. Another correct second time growing up was create short term goals.

I practice discretion and short term goals today. Regardless, I take back all of the Growing Up Part 2 above. I wrote a blog taking back believing in myself What Is Believe? on Jun 17, 2017. It may be confusing. The correction to The Correct Growing Up Part 2 is freedom. There is no growing up part 2 as of today. I grow up part 2 when I achieve freedom. I'm independent. The goal is big. I repeat again from Level Up Life Infinitely on Dec 2, 2019. More time is required. More work is required. More training is required. The set up is incomplete. What else am I going to do. Play video games daily, watch too much TV, eat too much processed foods, and work in a dead-end job? The answers to the four are no.

A Second Look At 2017

It's the time I look back at my 2017 blogs to give myself feedback. The goals delaying one year are relearning from my mistakes, reinforcing my lessons, reminding myself my moments, refreshing acquired knowledge, rediscovering new wisdom, correcting errant blogs, and sharing changes. These blogs are also the 2017 best blogs. There are 13 blogs for A Second Look At 2017.

Blog Title: 1. Schools Have Summer Vacations And Life Has Summer Vacations
Date: Tuesday January 3
Summary: There is an ending to everything controlled or not controlled.
Feedback: The blog may be misleading. There are short-term endings. There are one-time endings. Sometimes we create the endings. Sometimes life creates the endings. Work meetings end. Waiting for a car in a repair shop has an ending. Seasons have endings. Holidays have endings. The end of a calendar year is an ending. Time passes.

Blog Title: 2. Top Ten Men Truths
Date: Saturday January 7
Summary: Ten truths distinguishing a boy over 18 years old and a man over 18 years old. I do no justice summarizing here. Click the link to read in its entirety.
Feedback: Top blog for 2017. I nominate the blog for any blog of the year award.

Blog Title: 3. Live Quitting Or Die Believing
Date: Saturday January 14
Summary: The time to wait is subjective. The time to believe is subjective. Waiting and believing have an end time.
Feedback: I did it again. I wrote eight self-pity blogs or bullshit blogs in 2016. I wanted to stop blogging self-pity blogs in 2017. I was wrong. The world knows my current life situation. The bullshit blogs are complaining blogs. I express my frustrations. I express my anger. There's no need to repeat again for another year. Flipping an innovating common knowledge blog to my current life situation is terrible. There are seven bullshit blogs in 2017.

Blog Title: 4. Don't Be Me
Date: Sunday March 5
Summary: I want mature adults to move out of their parent's house at first opportunity intelligently, to learning new career skills indefinitely, to never stop meeting new people, to expand their lives, and to remember desire is more important than knowledge.
Feedback: These are tough adult lessons. If I teach a young person these lessons which change his or her life, then I'm happy.

Blog Title: 5. Two Personal Vows
Date: Wednesday April 12
Summary: The first vow is money doesn't change who I am. The second vow is control stress.
Feedback: Quoted for emphasis. Its ironic work must be done to control stress. Some stress is required to minimize stress. Stress can cause people to lose intelligence. My intuition says stress can cause brain damage such as memory loss, weaker comprehension, and behavior problems.

Blog Title: 6. What Is Believe?
Date: Saturday June 17
Summary: I don't need believe to complete my goals. I have to find a job. Do I need to believe? Students must graduate schools to increase their chances of success. Do they need to believe?
Feedback: Another bullshit blog. I removed daily rule #7 "Have faith. Believe in yourself." on Mar 12, 2018.

Blog Title: 7. Anything Better Than Duct Tape?
Date: Saturday August 5
Summary: I question the attitude of improving everything every day.
Feedback: There is another term. It's called creative exhaustion.

Blog Title: 8. Hate Yourself Today Only
Date: Wednesday August 9
Summary: Hate yourself is an easier way to find flaws, weaknesses, and whatever missing.
Feedback: Here is one way to be brutally honest with yourself. Turn your self-hate to self-love. Find everything you hate. Fix everything you hate. One must work to fix problems. Self-love is not automatic.

Blog Title: 9. Be Patient, I Rescue My Loneliness And Other People's Loneliness
Date: Monday August 14
Summary: There are lonely people in the world. I save myself first. I save lonely people next. I welcome people with weak self-esteem if they're motivated to strengthen their self-esteem. Nobody lives a happy life being lonely.
Feedback: The irony is I need people to help achieve freedom. I refer independence in the blog as freedom. I achieve both rescuing lonely people and earning freedom. Both complements each other. On the other hand, why do people want to spend time with losers who are unemployed and live with their parents? Where are the unemployed and live with their parents? Where are the people down on their luck? Where are the people not given chances? I must have bad luck finding unemployed and live with their parents people.

Blog Title: 10. Higher Priority Job Hiring And Higher Weight Job Hiring
Date: Sunday September 10
Summary: Times have changed regarding the job hiring system today and our father's job hiring system yesterday. Experience is valued. Good attitude is not valued.
Feedback: More people blame today's information age making jobs harder to find. Automated cars lead to automated trucks. Robots work in shipping and receiving. Customers order fast food at self-pay kiosks. For example, I saw kiosks at Costco's Food Court. I'm sure Costco has plenty of other customer service positions and more food preparation position for the food court cashiers.

Another ironic thought. Hiring managers hire people with matching knowledge, recent experience, and relevant experience because they're less likely to take another person's job. A job candidate with a high desire to learn and strong motivation to get better is more likely to take another person's job. There is a fear. The fear is a new job candidate replaces an existing job candidate. The job market is tough. Some workers do anything to protect their jobs. Some workers do anything to avoid entering the unemployed abyss.

What do we blame? Blame the job hiring system. Blame population overcrowding. There are too many people. There are too few job openings.

I have a degree in Economics. I learned new industries create more new jobs. The job workforce increases. I question the job creation theory. How does the robotics industry create more new jobs because many robots substitute human labor with automation?

Blog Title: 11. Life Goes On
Date: Saturday September 23
Summary: Anything that happens today good and bad anything happens tomorrow good and bad. Life is unfair. Life goes on.
Feedback: Everyday we wake up there is a chance of something happening. Sometime we're prepared. Sometimes we're not prepared. We roll the dice 24/7. Coincidences happen. Logical events happen. Illogical events happen. Weird events happen. We're at the right place at the right time. We're at the wrong place at the wrong time. Take a chance something good happens. Take a chance something bad happens. Life is full of chances.

Blog Title: 12. Throwback Blog: How Do They Do It? How Do They Do It?
Date: Wednesday November 30
Summary: I ask the question how some people attract people no matter where they are. Charism. Good looks. Voice tone. Luck. I also ask why some people repel from me. Poor physical appearance. Weak self-esteem. Loud voice. Luck.
Feedback: A common saying is don't judge a person by their appearance. Let's play the brutal honest card. We do judge a person by their appearance. Most of the time our judgement is correct. Take care of your body physically speaking. Good grooming. Good clothing. Good smile. Good communication skills. Back up the grooming, clothing, smile, and communication skills with intelligence, confidence, and mature behavior.

I thought back to Fanime Con 2009. I wore costumes to anime conventions. I wore makeup for the first time in my life. I couldn't believe makeup makes a difference to a person's looks. The makeup covered my pores. I attracted people. People came to me. I have a better understanding why women wear makeup. Also, perhaps, why men wear makeup. The makeup industry doesn't exist without Hollywood.

Maybe I'm scaring people without my knowledge. Maybe the people I scare have poor self-esteem. Maybe the people I scare are weak. I'm portraying myself unconsciously too strong, too smart, and too confidence; on the other hand, I question do I want to meet weak people. Do I want weak friends? I admit I have more work to strengthen my self-esteem. I admit I scare people off when I'm laser focused on a task. I look intimidating.

Blog Title: 13. The World Is Too Many And Too Few
Date: Saturday December 2
Summary: There are too many good people. There are too few good opportunities.
Feedback: It's a conversation nobody wants to talk about. The population continues to grow. Is the number of opportunities matching the population growth? People are living longer. Overcrowding is the number one global problem.

I Blog, You Comment Nov 4, 2017

A message to everyone feeling tired. Get extra sleep immediately. The best comments are below.

My parent's former neighbors The Shermans past away. The husband past away in Apr 2017. The wife past away in Jul 2017. The husband reminded me never stop learning in a person's senior years. Never Stop Learning Lesson Emphasized Because One Of The Shermans Past Away blog reminds everyone use your brain every day.

My parents continued learning in their retirement years. On the other hand my in-laws stopped learning. I can tell who are sharp and who aren't sharp as time continued. -- Heather Sparks, Lynn, MA

My children called out on me losing my memory. Forgot my keys. Forgot the time to pick up my grandchildren from school. Then I started spending more time reading books, taking walks. I started watching less television. I could think again. -- Eugene West, Greenfield, IN

I questioned What Is Believe. Anything we do must be done. Common examples include earning a degree, winning a contract, and becoming a champion. Do we really need to believe we succeed?

I emphasize believe everyday coaching my high school women sports. They must believe in themselves. Some of my players have no parents. I must tell them to believe so they can believe in themselves. --Joyce French, Buffalo, NY

You know I think back to raising my kids. I believe I never mentioned believe when I taught them life lessons. --Connie Bates, Jacksonville Beach, FL

Anyone that tells someone to believe in yourself doesn't know how to teach. --Melissa via email

Believe is important. People who believe in themselves have confidence. --Andrea Alvarez, Mexico

A couple comments expressed fear their small cities are losing the small city feeling. I experienced a small city feeling in A Praise For Small Cities.

I blame the tech companies for small cities becoming big cities. My city used to have lots of open fields. Now these open fields are commercial buildings and high-density housing. The city is crowded. I never wanted to live in a crowded city. More people in public areas. --Devin Kim, Pleasanton, CA

I'm in my 70s. I have to concentrate harder on the road because there [are] more cars. Also, I'm sad these ma and pa stores I used to shop are closing not because of the big box stores. It's because of the internet. --Eva Floyd, WA

What Is Believe?

A common life advice is believe in yourself and you can do anything you want. Why do I have to believe in myself? I want to do something. I'm going to do it. I don't need believe to motivate me. I'm going to make mistakes. I expect setbacks. I get better learning from failure.

Believe was not a factor while I was a student from grade school to college. I attended classes, listened to my instructors, completed my homework, and studied for my exams. I had to be a good student. I had to pass my classes to graduate anyways.

Currently, I'm looking for a job. I'm working to earn my independence. I have been believing a company hires me. No job offers. I have been believing I live my life my way. I still live at home with my parents. I have been learning new job skills such as Python and JavaScript. I have been reviewing my existing job skills such as Excel and VBA. My full time job is searching, learning, and reviewing; moreover, learning and reviewing improve my resume. I have to succeed anyways. I'm not living at home for the rest of my life. I have to do them anyways. I'm not watching TV and playing video games eight hours a day. There is no stopping. There is no quitting. I keep going. Where is the believe in my current life situation?

Live Quitting Or Die Believing

A common life quote is "patience is a virtue." How long does a person wait? How long does a person believe?

I'm job searching since my contract was satisfied. I have been getting calls, interviewing on the phone, and interviewing in person. No job offers. I review my existing job skills such as Excel, Access, and SQL. I learn new job skills such as Python and CSS. I believe I find a new job. I believe what I'm doing now helps me in the future. I have faith the job skills I learn are used in my next job. I have faith the books I read keeps my brain strong. I have faith working out at the gym slows down my aging.

I digress. When do I stop believing I find a job? When do I stop believing I live independently? When do I stop believing I meet new people and create new circle of friends? We're all human. Life goes on. Frustration can defeat a person's motivation. I must be strong. I must be courageous. On the other hand, what is strength and courageous? I live my weekday unemployed. What am I going to do?

How long do I wait? How long do I believe? One more year? Three more months? My entire life to the day I die? I have nothing to lose. I can quit to live a life being a nobody. There's something inside me keeping my hopes alive. I tell myself being a nobody is not me. I motivate myself to move out of the house. I want to be in the driver's seat controlling my life, living a consistent life, making my own choices, and living proactively.

Generally speaking, how long does a person believe? The length depends on the situation, the magnitude, the circumstances, the alternatives or the substitutes, and the individual. There is no correct or incorrect answer. There are no standards or formulas. Making the football team. Buying a house. Earning a job promotion. Graduating from an academy. Mastering a skill. Finding love. Overcoming an addiction. Being healthy after recovering from health problems. When does a person stop believing after how many failed attempts? It's a judgment call.
