Wisest Metaphors Sample Language

Memorize and practice these top wisdom metaphors to communicate your high intelligence or your strong opinion.

An alternative is Okay, professor *fill in the blank*, what's the solution?

To Read Or Not To Read

Blogger's Note: May is pic month. I'm catching up posting pics from my smart phone. Enjoy!

I'm too young to read books. I question more if I have stronger reading skills. I waste time eating potato chips increasing in price. I need therapy to stop mental declining. My therapist said read more books.

Routine oil changes are required for a car driving hundreds of thousands of miles as long as the car owner possesses the necessary tools. Don't use new towels when changing oil. New towels are unfounded at evicted tenant's residences.

Normal Adolescents At Chipotle

I ate a late lunch at Chipotle at the 3:00pm hour on Fri Dec 8, 2023 because of shopping. A nearby middle school ended the school day. Students walked home. A few of the students congregated at a small retail strip mall. The fast food restaurant was 90% occupied with students. A few seats were unoccupied. The restaurant workers were prepared. The front end was fully staffed. The cooks were preparing the food. It was loud inside.

Witnessing the middle school students was no different when I attended middle school. Students socialized. There were no parents; although, I saw a couple of parents picking up students in the parking lot. Cell phones were prevalent; however, nobody was individually silent self-occupied with their own phone. They used their phones for conversation topics. They used their phones to pay for their orders. They used their phones calling their parents. The students acted and behaved like normal adolescents. Their parents taught them well. Their parents trusted them and their circle of friends. I didn't have cell phones in school. Socializing and friendships are the same today and the same yesterday regardless of the trends or technology.

Too Many 5's And 6's Dice Rolls Playing Axis & Allies

Axis & Allies made by Milton Bradley Company was a board game I played in high school. I sucked. I remember there was a chance I win one game. There were five of us. I teamed up with a straight A student friend who was like the late Steve Jobs without charisma. He knew how to play the game. We were the Axis. I played Germany. He played Japan. The other three friends were the Allies Russia, Great Britain, and United States.

My friend guided me where to put my soldiers, tanks, and planes. My friend suggested where to attack, where to place my armaments, and when to save money. He wanted to win. He wanted me to win. He cared. We lost. What happened? The answer was I rolled too many 5's and 6's. I rolled too few low numbers to attack and to defend. I rolled too few low numbers to win battles. Pathetic. My friend suggested a different method to roll the dice. Unsuccessful. My fault? Yes. Bad luck? Yes.

Two of the three friends playing the Allies were smart students. They enrolled in advanced classes. One of them could bowl a 200 score. The other friend was fluent in English and Spanish.

Tabletop Gaming Curse

If there is a term for bad luck playing tabletop games, then give me the term; otherwise, I assign myself the tabletop gaming curse. I realize connecting the dots backwards bad luck factored in my losses. All games involving luck include dice rolling, drawing cards, drawing tiles in Mahjong, and spinning I experience more bad luck than good luck. The odds are in favor of my opponents. The over 50% probability are in favor of my opponents.

Likewise for my present life. I lost count the number of times I was the second choice for a job hire. There were job hires cancelled due to a director overriding the hiring manager, budget cuts, and breech of procedures not my fault. Curses are meant to be broken. I don't know how to break a bad luck curse.

Grandmother Listened To Me

I dreamed last night my late grandmother on my mom's side and I conversed. The topic was my long-term unemployment. She said I should be working any job. I agreed and I disagreed. Any person can work any job. My stronger response was some jobs are a match to people and some jobs are a mismatch to people; for example, an oversimplified scenario a grocery store doesn't hire job candidates with a master's degree. She asked why I'm unemployed. I answered bad luck. I got interviews. I didn't get hired beyond my control. I job train five days a week. I don't watch TV and play video games eight hours a day. Furthermore, I explained why some people can't find work. I said timing and luck are factors. There are too many people applying to fewer openings. The quantity of job candidates increases the supply of job candidates at the end of every academic school year. There are not enough openings to satisfy the additional supply.

I Owe The World By Making A Difference

Today's blog is an update on a past blog.

Update On A Past Blog

I thought about all my past friends and my past co-workers. 95% of them got my backs if anything bad happened. Good people support good people. Good friends support good friends. I failed to realize all 95% supported me. My past friends go as far back as junior high school.

I questioned did I make a difference to the 95% from the blog Did I Make A Difference? written on Jul 7, 2015. I said the 95% made a difference to me. "They made my life better. I'm a better person today."

I failed to be a difference maker to the 95%. I could have been and I should have been a better friend. I have no excuses. I owe the 95% something in return. I don't know what is the something. My feeling tells me the something must be multiple permanent life changers big or small.

I can't explain what I did correctly to earn their friendships. I thank my intuition. Was it I showed up? Was it I listened well? Was it I smiled when they needed a smile? I hope my self-pity didn't attract people.

The minimum owing back the 95% is become stronger. Don't be a jerk. The world needs one less bad person. I assure the 95% and the world I practice personal responsibility. I wrote I Owe The World on Apr 8, 2018 I take care of myself in a positive way such as working hard to earn freedom, stay healthy, and never stop learning.

Moody Men

Women are known to have mood swings. Women are happy, sad, depress, calm, nice, dreadful, funny, crazy, angry, shameful, sympathetic, and tired. Women are leave me alone, stay with me, party pooper, relatable, lonely, friendly, no touching, yes touching, horny, blame anything and anyone, and full of excuses. Don't blame the women. Blame the female hormones. Blame the mensuration cycle.

Men must admit. Men have mood swings, too. Men are happy, sad, depress, calm, nice, dreadful, funny, crazy, angry, shameful, sympathetic, and tired. Men are leave me alone, stay with me, party pooper, relatable, lonely, friendly, no touching, yes touching, horny, blame anything and anyone, and full of excuses. Don't blame the man. Blame the male hormone. My testosterone levels are high on most days or low on few days. There are days I have no interest in watching sports, reading books, sex, cooking, and working out. The days are like a time out. Nothing interests me. It's normal as long as the time out is rare. It's normal as long as the time out don't disrupt consistently and don't disrupt relationships.

Mark Cuban AMA At Reddit r/wallstreetbest

Dallas Mavericks owner and Shark Tank investor Mark Cuban participated in a Reddit AMA or Ask Me Anything at r/wallstreetbets posted by u/mcuban on Tue Feb 2, 2021. Click Hey everyone, Its Mark Cuban. Jumping on to do an AMA.... so Ask Me Anything to read the forum Q&A. I copy and paste sorted by Q&A (Suggested). Cuban answered 49 questions.

mcuban: Lets Go !

turdled: This is legit. Mark decided to start the AMA earlier.

mcuban: H/T to Spugliese for this question

Hey Mark! Thanks for doing this. What are your thoughts on which services to use? I'm planning on getting g out of RH for obvious reasons, any retail trading companies you'd recommend? I want to support free trade and hit Robinhood in the wallet for what they've done here. Also, any legitimacy to a class action suit against them?

Pick the brokerage with the strongest balance sheet. What ruined it on RH is that they didnt have enough cash to deal with the growth in accounts, margin loans and volatility. The EXACT SAME THING will happen at the next broker if you dont make sure they have a MULTI-TRILLION dollar balance sheet to be able to handle these kind of circumstances

And there will be class action suits. And they will be combined and they will win and you will get a check for less than $10

mcuban: Final thought. First thanks for the great questions. Thanks for changing the game. Thanks for taking on Wall Street. Thanks for making kids around the country if not the world( including my son and daughter). WSB changed the game far more than everyone on this board will ever get credit for.

That said, you will do all this again. You will go after WS and the next time you will be smarter. There was only one thing that messed you all up: RobinHood and the other zero commission brokers that everyone used didnt have enough capital to fund the fight. They let you down in a big way.

When you load back up, fight a broker with TRILLIONS OF DOLLARS in assets on their balance sheet. Someone that can be there when the fight starts and wont blink an eye.

No disruption is easy or happens in a straight line. Stay with it. I am a believer

pinklips_indy: Why is the stock plummeting so much?

mcuban: Supply and Demand, but in this case it literally could be because the source of demand has been crippled . When RH shut it down, then cut it back, lets put aside why, they cut of the greatest source of demand. They created a RobinHood Dive. No RH buyers, means sellers lower their price to find buyers. And they keep on lowering it till they find buyers. Keep the most natural buyers out of the market and the price keeps on FALLING.

Then that drop accelerates because the more the stock falls the more owners who bought on margin get margin calls. When that margin call happens, its brutal. They just take your stock, send you a fuck you note and sell your stock at the market price, no matter how low. They just want to get your cash to pay back the loan.

That then accelerates the selling.

Which then leads to what we are seeing in the market right now with GME in particular

So what to do ?

If you can afford to hold the stock, you hold. I dont own it, but thats what i would do.

Why ? because when RH and the other online brokers open it back up to buyers, then we will see what WSB is really made of. That is when you get to make it all work.

I have no doubt that there are funds and big players that have shorted this stock again thinking they are smarter than everyone on WSB.

I know you are going to hate to hear this, but the lower it goes, the more powerful WSB can be stepping up to buy the stock again. The only question is what broker do you use . Do you stay with RH , who is going to have the same liquidity problems over and over again, or do you as a group find a broker with a far, far, far better balance sheet that wont cut you off and then go ham on Wall Street.

Puddin-669: What are your thoughts on the volume of the last couple of trading days? And Also, what is your view on the practise of Naked shorting/Short Laddering?

mcuban: I actually love to see the companies I own shorted. If its a company I want to own, I know the shorts can be squeezed and if the company does really, really well, then the shorts will have to cover , creating more demand for the stock of the company I own, pushing the stock price up.

Back in the day I used to run a public company. I used to tell anyone and everyone i knew who didnt believe in us to short the stock

As far as naked shorting, thats not really a thing. Yes there can be more shares shorted than there are original float. That is by design. If i borrow a stock from you to short, and when I short it and your buddy buys it, then they can loan it to someone else to short, etc . All of those people who borrowed the stock paid to do so, and they realize that if enough people buy the stock and ask for the shares, they will get called in. So the chain of custody is there. The systems is doing what its designed to do.

So again, the more people shorting the stock in the company i own the better

Where you have to be careful is when the shorts are in a stock because the company is a fraud. If i short stocks, its only in companies i think are fraudulent and ripping off people . I actually produced a money about one element of this, The China Hustle

AChickenCannon: How do you think the SEC will respond to the GME situation? New regulations on retail trading?

mcuban: The SEC is a mess. I wouldnt trust them to do the right thing ever. Its an agency built by and for lawyers to be lawyers and win cases rather than do the right thing

If the SEC gave a shit about ANYONE other than Wall Street you would be able to go there right now and read bright line guidelines about insider trading, shorting, what is a pump and dump, what are the rules for cutting off the purchase of stocks like happened with GME et al

But they wont. They would rather litigate to regulate, which means they love to sue people in order to create new legal precedents.

All you need to know about the SEC and how badly they want to fuck the little guy is that they have the option of using JUDGES THAT WORK FOR THE SEC when they sue you rather than you have the option to have jury of your peers in front of a judge that is independent . Thats how bad the SEC is. If you want fair markets that doesnt benefit Wall Street call your local politician and show them this

CptThailand: Do you have an advice for people who have lost money the last few weeks and how to go on from this?

mcuban: I learned some expensive lessons when i first started trading stocks. It was painful. But i tried to learn what i got right and wrong. Right now, right here. The game is changing. The hard part is ask yourself if what you believed in has actually changed.

BTC HODLers are a great example to follow. Many bought at the highs in 2017 and watched it fall by 2/3 or more. But they held on because they believed in the asset.

The same applies to stocks. When I buy a stock I make sure i know why Im buying it. Then I HODL until till I learn that something has changed. THe price may go up or down, but if i still believe in the logic that made me buy the asset, I dont sell. If something changed that I didnt expect , then I look at selling.

fawkes0226: Would you ever consider opening a brokerage that's truly for the "little guys" like us? (Go Mavs BTW!)

mcuban: The challenge is not opening the brokerage, the hard part is dealing with success. What fucked up RobinHood is that they didnt have enough cash to handle the number of customers they had, their margin loans and the requirements from the DTCC. They have now raised more than $5 billion and that may not be enough. And its not like they are charging anything for their trades.

The question becomes whether or not buyers would pay a commission or even a tip to a broker for doing their trades. Crypto has no problem paying a transaction fee, you may have to do business with a broker that charges you so that you dont get fucked in a RH stop the buy type situation again

Competitive_Help_513: Hey Mark, given the maturation in public cloud computing and its impact on bringing down company startup costs, and the consequent rise in edge computing / distributed computing (ie a lot of compute capacity being built out globally, albeit not in traditional x86 architecture), when do you think we see grid computing (essentially public cloud business model on top of sensor meshes) finally become a thing? Anyone who can offer a "revenue stream on top of your capex" would have an AWS-esque business, no?

mcuban: Its starting to happen now. From mesh networks connected to traffic signals to much much more. Im an investor in a company called Mesh-Tek. they are putting their tech everywhere

as far as productizing , yes. anytime you can turn what you do inside of your company into a product you sell to the outside, that is something worth looking at closely

bigupsyaheard: What do you think could possibly change in the market after all of this is over? Any new regulations on your mind?

mcuban: What has happened the past few weeks with WSB has all happened before, it was just the big guys doing the battling. The only new thing was WSB traders took them on .

Volkswagen was the short squeeze that was even crazier at the time. Ackmen vs Icahn on Herbalife was similar to this, but it was big money vs big money

Momentum and technical trading have been going on forever, which really is what is happening now broken down into charts and graphs.

What i love about this now, is that if you pick your spots right and work as a group, you can hit again and again

men-swear: What single piece of advice do you have for us to succeed in shaking this up? Keen the language simple for *ape* friends

mcuban: Patience. Disruption is never easy or straight line. Is what you believe in still true. If it is, stay with it. If it's not, figure out what changed, learn from it and reload for the next asset . As always DO THE WORK. Assets including stocks move for a lot of different reasons. Trading stocks isnt easy. Trading Crypto, NFT, whatever, isnt easy. None of this shit is easy. You know what it is ? Its time consuming and brain consuming. And when you learn share. If you want to beat old school Wall Street you have to share that knowledge and find the power in numbers

DragLox: With this kind of volatility in the market, had WSB forever changed the way things will be done on Wall Street?

mcuban: Yes. WSB leveraged the value of community. They took it to the people and made it bottom up. There is so much power and upside in this. Sometimes its expensive to learn. Anyone who has traded for a while has learned an expensive lesson they couldnt afford. I know i have.

next time WSB will be smarter. And next time can still be around GME, AMC, etc.

There will be a point in the stock where wall street starts saying "I told you so", let that happen for a few weeks.

Then hit them again, at a broker with the financial strength to never have to shut you off

JazinAdamz: What do you think about the media. Lying about what Reddit wsb is talking and excited about. For me it showed that the world is evil and everyone is bought. I still trusted some media but u really can't trust any of it. Anyway , my question is do you think the Robinhood class action lawsuit has a chance?

mcuban: Its not about being evil. Its about being lazy. They write stories. They dont do much research. So you get stupid shit being stated about things they really dont understand

fjposter22: Is it in the realm of possibility that these hedge funds just, don't cover their shorts at all? They go full felon and act like it never happened, ala "Fake News!"?

mcuban: Their goal is to never cover their short. But that would take the company going out of business or being delisted. That wont happen here.

Best thing you can do is hold on to the stock and do business with GameStop. If everyone goes to their website and buys from them that is going to help the company which will help the stock which will help everyone here.

If you still believe in the reason you bought the stock, and that hasnt changed, why sell ?

ShitpostSundae: Hey Mark, loved your interviews with barstool, your work on shark tank, and your thoughts on rolling out direct payments during the pandemic. Any chance you want to be a board member of GameStop? Thanks, I'll hang up and listen.

mcuban: Im a fan of stimulus payments. I think the best investment our government can make is in the American people ., At 1pct interest rates, we can get a great return .

And GME already has an amazing board. Ryan Cohen brought in some of his peers from Chewy.com. He didnt put in his money to throw it away

Slimey_Cat_Logs: I lost 15k in BlackBerry and that shit is tanking hard. Do you believe it will rise in the future or am I holding on to a dead stock.

mcuban: i have no idea. No one really does. I do think that once RH and others open up buying some of these will pop up. I just dont know how much or if it will happen for sure.

I think the stocks are getting shorted because the shorts know that the natural buyers , the folks on RH and others like it are being prevented from buying, so that will make it most likely the stock will go down

People dont realize how shorts jumped in when they saw the buy side shut off

Jaykalia: Stepping away from gme for a min,

What are your thoughts on the stock market this year? I see the almost-unjustifiable prices of the many "popular" companies, and it makes it hard to keep money in the market or expand my portfolio. Any advice?

mcuban: interest rates change all valuations. What is right or wrong is hard to determine. What is the right valuation , that is what the market is supposed to tell you. Stocks that dont pay dividends are only worth what someone will pay for them

V3yhron: Hey Mark, thanks for doing this. Do you think the future of exchanges are decentralized direct peer-to-peer networks to eliminate the kind of nonsense we saw this past week?

Also, do you view the ball dropping of Robinhood as an indicator that there is room for disruption in a retail trading platform? Perhaps one intermingling brokerage platform and democratized discussions?

Thanks!

mcuban: I think block chain is the future, i dont know if its decentralized or private

DepressedBard: Mark, what do you make of the blatant market manipulation and short ladder attacks occurring right this very minute by the Hedge Funds?

mcuban: i dont think its manipulation. I think the rules are set to benefit them and they have years of experience exploiting those rules.

Your congress people can change the rules to make them fairer for small investors. They havent given a shit up till now. Maybe people on this board can change their minds

Golfer0808: Hey Mark, this all started because the short interest was around 140%. We are seeing today GME has dipped considerably because it is being reported that the short interest has dipped to 50% or lower. However, the volume numbers haven't spiked to suggest the shorts are covering their positions. What's going on? Is this fake news?

mcuban: The amount of volume to cover the shorts was tiny compared to the amount of volume in the stock on a daily basis.

Lawlshark: Hey Mark, long story short. To continue on this disruption path do you believe that the more that HOLD THE LINE will directly impact the price of certain stocks in the market?

Power to the little guys. *Not financial advice*

mcuban: yes. definitely. HODLing worked in CRYPTO. But it will take some Whales to act as a foundation

romax1989: What industry that is relatively small now has potential to explode in the next 10 years?

mcuban: De-Fi, NFT, but there will be a lot of ups and downs along the way

AI will change everything, but 99pct of the businesses out there that say they use AI are full of shit.

Precision Medicine, Nano Technology, the MRNA technology used in the vaccines will grow.

Robotics. Green Tech, all will grown

Sapandco: Hey Mark,

Thanks for doing this AMA. Do you have any favorite tools to use when doing company research that are accessible to small retail investors?

mcuban: SEC.GOV and Yahoo Finance and basic google searches are really all the work I do on a company. But i dont trade a lot any more. Being a day trader means being online ALL DAY

0MNIBU5: Hey Mark, do you think anything will come out of this from wallstreets side? Do you think they're going to change their fundamental strategies and habits when shorting? Or is this just going to continue and they're going to go unregulated?

mcuban: They will be on the message boards monitoring activity, thats for damn sure

fanelectric: Hello, first want to say I'm a big Luka fan, and still love for porzingus ( NYK fan here )

2nd, Do you think we can file a lawsuit against brokerages like Robinhood ETC ?

mcuban: Yes. There will be class action suits. And you will win. And after legal feeds you will get your $4.00 settlement check

Simplyme__: Hi Mark! I love you on Shark Tank! My question is what advice to you have for people following their dreams and starting from the beginning again? Thanks so much! :-)

mcuban: First, find a job to pay your bills. Got to take care of the basics. Then get back after it. Just remember, its not in the dreaming, its in the doing

WyooterHooter: What potential does wsb/social media investors have going forward? What steps can we take to organize and act as the world's largest hedge fund or something similar?

mcuban: being on this board is big. I think social investors have an opportunity to change stocks the way social was used to build crypto

uns0licited_advice: When you meet an entrepreneur, what are some characteristics in the person that make you believe he/she will succeed? What characteristics do you see in those who don't succeed?

mcuban: Love to Learn

Love to Sell

Be Nice

Bust your ass

Reduce the Stress of people around you

StefonDiggsHS: Mark don't hide I've seen your jumpshot, I've seen you splash corner 3's when you gonna suit up for the mavs to end this cursed losing streak? :(

P.s. been a MFFL and one of my happiest moments is the 2011 finals. Can't wait to cop tickets as soon as I'm vaccinated or it's safe!

mcuban: Hang in there. We will be good.

robertito42: Does the undercapitalization of brokers and collateral requirements of the DTCC make a case for a chain made of blocks?

mcuban: Yes. Stocks will be on the block chain in the future, and that will make the markets much more efficient, transparent and available to the small investor

blow_zephyr: Is it true that you were told to stop investing in everyone who came on shark tank because you were making the other sharks look bad?

mcuban: Its true i make them look bad. But its also true i wouldnt care what they said

Watch us friday nights on ABC ! (Im always selling)

lordeqai: Bro what's the best price to sell at? What price will this go up to until it stops?

mcuban: I typically dont set price targets on the up side. On the down side, when i was just getting started I would set a stop loss at where my margin call would start. If you can afford to hold a stock that is going down, only sell if the reason you bought the stock has changed

ReadThinkDoMore: Is there a proverbial "deep state" within the hedge fund world? What I mean is are there even shadier figures than the CEOs of hedge funds who give them their marching orders? I think there must be. Any thoughts mark?

mcuban: I dont know. I have met hedgies that are questionable, but i dont really do any business with hedge funds

xeonv2: Hi Mark,

Do you honestly think decentralized finance will be a reality given the possibility of big players pushing it from becoming mainstream?

mcuban: Father time is undefeated. Big Players die and are replaced by the next generation

JonSnerrrrrr: Mr. Cuban, I know that you help people on a rather regular basis. Could you light a fire under the ass of the SEC or would that be sticking your neck out too far?

mcuban: Google my name and the SEC

Erchez: Mark - thanks for jumping in here, what are your thoughts about all the hate from billionaires and VC against the "retail bros"?

mcuban: who cares what they say. Do what you think is right. Always

Jokosmash: Thoughts on employee-led investment rounds?

mcuban: LOVE LOVE LOVE it

I think there should be incentives for companies to give stock to EVERY single employee

scuba787: Can the little guy prevail ?

mcuban: absolutely. This shit aint supposed to be easy and its not. Changing the game is ALWAYS messy

NoahSavedTheAnimals: If you could tell your 20 year old self one thing, what would it be?

mcuban: Drink less, party more. Too many hangovers fucked me up

mark_nguyen45: Hi Mr. Cuban this is off topic but do you think we make the playoffs still this year? Our team on paper looks really good but I can see how covid really hurt us too. Also MFFL

mcuban: yes

smartaus: In what major ways will this change the future landscape of stocks?

mcuban: strength in numbers is a thing

HoldTheChimichanga: Mark. Why are they blocking me from buying my bananas??

mcuban: You arent part of the bunch . Why else ?

shady_brady69: Do you consider the Mavericks to be the greatest investment you've ever made?

mcuban: No. I bet on myself.

NineHDmg: My friends have paper hands.

What should i tell them?

mcuban: Dont play RPS Blogger's note: RPS means Rock, Paper, Scissors

redditster00: Which alt coins do you like?

mcuban: I own AAVE and Sushi, along with Eth, BTC and LTC

PathOfTHEERighteous: Are the mavs going to win the finals in the next few years?

mcuban: Fuck Yes

patmacog: Would you take becoming the primary owner of the Steelers if it meant selling your ownership of the Mavs?

mcuban: no

madmatthammer: Do you think anyone will go to jail over this?

mcuban: no.

Ishtastic08: What does Dirk smell like?

mcuban: money

TombOfTheRedQueen: Will you run for president in 2024?

mcuban: no

Update On A Past Blog

The Mark Cuban AMA reminded me of a blog I wrote on Dec 22, 2014 titled Tell Me You Games. The blog suggested how people can start a conversation. Also, the blog suggested ideas to start people socializing in a formal setting, a casual setting, or a group of friends who want to play a game talking only. The AMA is like the Write A Question tip. A person is chosen to answer questions from other people. The questions can be asked verbally or written on paper.

Life Is Hard

Life is hard. Life is supposed to be hard. If life is easy, then life doesn't need lawyers, mental institutions, and therapists. If life is easy, then no need to earn success. Everyone lives with everything on a silver platter. There are exceptions. Life is unfair because life is hard. Moreover, some people live unfortunate and unlucky lives such as bad childhood, physical limitations, poor mental capabilities, and little opportunities. Blame the act of God.

I lived a childhood and young adult life easy peasy. I lived a childhood and young adult life with an easy attitude. I didn't earn my successes. I followed the flow. Following the my life flow was too easy. It wasn't my fault. My parents raised me the easy way.

The life is hard lesson is learned. Strength, courage, grit, intelligence, wisdom, trial and error, training and practicing, good support, patience, and good mentors are required to be successful. They are required to handle life is hard. Failure is a possibility. Timing and luck are factors. People die everyday. People die before success everyday. Regardless, success becomes real after the hard work is completed. There are new successes to achieve afterwards. There are infinite successes to achieve. Choose carefully.

Update On A Past Blog

I'm lucky. I experienced life changing moments. I exclude the common life changing moments such as marriage, newborns, graduation, job promotions, legally drive a car, and first time in a foreign country. Some people don't experience the life changing moments. I emphasize the again. I shared my the life changing moments at My Four Mount Rushmore Greatest Moments In My Life on Sat Aug 9, 2020. They're cosplaying, growing up, job training, and watching The Shawshank Redemption movie. I expect more life changing moments soon replacing any or all of my present Mount Rushmore.

It's nobody's fault some people don't experience the life changing moments. These people are victims of circumstances. These people experience bad luck. These people experience bad timing. These people don't have the opportunity to make mistakes. These people don't have the chance to learn from failure. These people slip through the cracks. There are no people to call out their shortcomings.

The system can be blamed. I watched a Roseanne rerun. Roseanne, Jackie, and Nancy needed a loan to start a business. They visited the Small Business Association (SBA) to borrow money. They were frustrated because the SBA didn't loan money. The SBA guaranteed loans from banks. In other words, they needed to get a bank to approve a loan before the SBA assists the three ladies. The fictional television show is an example of social-economic barriers for the poor.

A Sane Person Can Be A Loser

A partial weird dream last night. I was at a medium sized party organized by my dad. The party took place at a banquet hall. Round dinner tables. Most of the party attendees were middle aged. One man in his 60s shaved my right leg with a buck knife. Clean shave. There was no pain. The man worked at the company where I got my first job after I graduated at San Jose State University. He was a Senior Associate commercial real estate broker employed for ten years. He started working in commercial real estate in his 50s. I asked the man his prior jobs. The man replied he worked at five jobs in five different industries. I said, "Oh okay," or something like that. The man explained his five previous jobs he lost interest. I thought in the back of my mind he was a loser.

I woke up. I thought about the dream lying in my bed for minutes. Was the man in his 60s a loser? The man couldn't keep a job. He worked. He hated the job. He quit. He worked another job in another industry. He hated the job. He quit. Repeated three more times. On the other hand, was the man sane? I refer the sane question to my last blog Steve Jobs Compilation Blog on Aug 12, 2020. Jobs said people must find what they love. If people don't find what they love, they quit because they're sane. The partial quote, "So if you don't love it, if you're not having fun doing it, you don't really love it, you're gonna give up. And that's what happens to most people actually. If you really look at the ones that ended up being successful *in air quotes* in the eyes of society, and the ones that didn't, oftentimes, it's the ones that are successful loved what they did so they can persevere when it got really tough, and the ones that didn't love it quit cause they're sane."

Can a sane person be a loser? Is the question valid? Is quitting five jobs because he or she doesn't love their jobs a definition of a loser?

The Homeless People Rolled Too Many Snake Eyes

The number of dice two or greater is not a factor. These homeless people rolled too many ones instead of too many sixes. The homeless population increases every day. There are more good people becoming homeless. I remember when I was a child I thought all homeless people were losers such as alcoholics, criminals, and drug addicts. I remember when I was a child I thought some homeless people faked being homeless begging for money without working.

The two statements are false. I see more groups of homeless people including people earing little income and can't afford rent, families, mental illness, family conflicts, and the government failing to take care of its veterans. No judgments. Some homeless are down on their luck. Some homeless made bad choices. Some homeless have physical health problems they are stuck in their present city. Some homeless experienced a life catastrophe. Some homeless are college students. Some homeless escaped from toxic people.

Today's blog is another reminder life is unfair. Today's blog is another reminder don't take life for granted. Life is a circle. Be grateful people with a roof, bathroom, and a bed. Times are tough. Times are tougher going forward.

Throwback Blog: How Do They Do It? How Do They Do It?

Blogger’s Note: Throwback blogs are blogs from my past. I start posting past blogs reflecting what I wrote. It's like my "A Second Look" blogs for which I give myself feedback.

Today's throwback blog is titled How Do They Do It? How Do They Do It? in Jun 2009. I asked the question how some people attract other people to be with them. These people immediately blend in with strangers and become the main attraction instantly. Actor George Clooney is a good example of a person. These people have charisma, intelligence, good smile, dress well, strength, courage, and confidence. These people are beautiful on the inside and beautiful on the outside. I answered my question.

One observation I see daily is how some people blend easily in a crowd. The crowd is a bunch of friends, a bunch of strangers meeting for the first time, or a bunch of people in a party . . . any group of people. How do they do it? How do they blend in and bring energy and enthusiasm in a group of people? Charisma? Good vibes? Good looks? Positive energy? Tone of voice? Correct attitude? Funny? Luck?

I had a friend. High school educated, worked in retail, little overweight, 6ft tall, talked slowly, slow learner, and ten times more geek than me. In Anime Expo'99, he successfully got a press badge and watched the main events show from the side of the stage. Everytime we were together and with people, he attracted a crowd and he was an instant star. How did he do it? I have no idea.

I must be doing something wrong. Is it my voice? My voice is my voice. My looks? My braces are removed in June. My accutane treatment is half way completed. Wear makeup? Um, I think about makeup. Am I sending negative vibes? Do I act nervous? Insecure? Angry? I don't know. I'm wearing new clothing. I donated my at least 10 year old clothing. Obviously I buy new pants when I need to. I'm doing something to change and to improve my appearance. Do I need to improve my conversation skills? I say yes, I always improve my conversation skills, do anything to be more charming.

Am I portraying myself as too good a person? I'm too good? I'm too perfect? I'm not good. I'm not perfect. I have flaws. Maybe I do a good job hiding them and I don't realize it. Do I act and behave as a quiet person? Bad luck and bad timing I'm with a group of people and there is no connection between me and them? Do I scare people? I admit I laugh too much. I'm working on that bad habit. Do some people look at me as a nerd, a geek, and all of a sudden, they ignore me? I have bad luck I haven't met people like me to expand my long term circle of friends, my long-term friendships.

I want to be a person who attracts people. I don't want to be a person who chases people. I have many ways to communicate including texting, AIM, Yahoo IM, and Facebook to keep in touch. I want to meet new people. I want to portray myself as a fun and good person, and create long term friendships. Age, race, creed, education. Doesn't matter. I have a desire to meet new people. I want to be a "there he is person." I avoid the jerks, bitches, and people full of drama.

In Fanime 2009, I hung out with a few friends who introduced me to more friends. Some of them do it. They attract people. They're funny. They're the source of energy, source of fun, and source of enthusiasm. How do they do it? I'm still trying to figure it out. Confidence? Opening up? I had a few highlights being with them. What I did was followed how they were having fun. They were my models, my examples how to behave and to act. Oh, I did wear makeup when I wore my costumes. OMG, what a difference!!! People were coming up to me. I don't recall a past anime convention where so many people came up to me to talk, to joke, and to take a picture of me.

The lessons I learned regarding how people attract, retain, and earn friendships and being a friendly good guy are having the attitude of being cheerful, not being a stuck up. Have courage to speak up and everyone makes mistakes and say stupid jokes. Make sure what you say is appropriate; in other words, be tactful when meeting new people. Yes, I have lots more to learn.

Side note: I review my top five rules for daily living:

1. Don't criticize, condemn, and complain, and don't compare with others.
2. Don't act like a jerk or bitch.
3. Always speak calmly and be calm.
4. Don't daydream when driving.
5. Keep your head up high . . . look at the cute face when talking.

40 For 40: The Conversational Grandmother

Introduction: I start a new blog series titled "40 For 40." I share moments and experiences I lived in my 40 years. The ESPN 30 For 30 inspired me to create my 40 For 40 blogs. The sport documentary series detailed people, sport teams, moments, events, and controversial situations. The same ideas apply to my 40 For 40.

My fourth 40 For 40 blog is my first long conversation with a new person.

My mom, aunt, brother, cousin, and I took the Alameda County transit bus from Alameda, CA to San Francisco round trip. My mom and aunt didn't like to drive on the freeway. We departed from the San Francisco bus depot, walked to Chinatown, spent the day at Chinatown, and walked back to the bus depot. Bus letter "O" was our bus.

The five of us arrived early for the next bus from San Francisco to Alameda one trip in 1981. I walked away on my own to a bus pole where bus O stopped. I held on the pole with my two hands to move myself in circles around the pole because I was bored. There was a grandmother in her 80s five feet away from me. She and I talked for a long time. I talked about my family, school, and how I spent my time by myself. She never talked about herself. She listened to everything I said. She responded to everything I said. I didn't know if I bored her. I didn't know if I was interesting. I believed she was being a grandmother as if I was her grandson.

The grandmother followed social conversation human relations etiquette. She was a good listener. She became interested in others. She didn't complain I talked too much. I was a child. I believed she appreciated my time with her because she was with nobody else. She made me feel important by keeping her company. She let me do a great deal of talking, and I hoped I wasn't boring.

I'm looking forward to pay it forward to a young child needing someone to talk.

Tell Me You Games

Here are some games to know people in a deeper sense. These games should be played with people you know well in a comfortable environment. These games assist people opening up for you and for others. Be prepared to open up.

*One Word. Everyone writes down one word describing yourself and the other people. Everyone writes down the one word for the person being described for each turn. The other people share the one word and explain why going clockwise with the person being described on the left ending with the person being described sharing his or her own answer. Continue with the next person being described going clockwise. Duplicate answers are okay. The game is best played in a table and chair setting.

Bonus: Everyone predicts what the person writes down for the person's turn. Another bonus: people with matching one words receive a small prize.

*Copy. Everyone choose someone's else moment, knowledge, physical attribute, personality, skill, award, part of the other person's DNA, etc. Agree who starts copying another person. The copied person can't choose the person copying after the copy is shared with everyone. The copied person must choose another person to copy. Avoid a loop between two people.

For example, I want to copy another person's skill of reading fast. I explain why. Then the person who I copied the reading fast chooses another person except me to copy.

*Write A Question. A person is chosen to answers questions from other people. Rules may be established what questions are acceptable and what questions are unacceptable. The other people write one question on a piece of paper for the chosen person to answer. The chosen person collects all questions. He or she shuffles the written questions. The chosen person announces the question one by one to answer. The chosen person can refuse to answer questions. Feel free to pause the question and answer for a discussion.

A variant is verbal questions. The chosen person answers questions asked from other people. Other people ask one question starting with the chosen person's left going clockwise.

Positive. Share a positive of the other person. Everyone forms a circle. One person is the positivee. Everyone else shares a positive starting with the positivee's left going clockwise. The positive is anything such as an attribute, a skill, a personality, or an action.

Sports Interview. Most of us watch sports' pregame and postgame interview in a press conference setting. One person is on the podium. The other people ask questions on the person. It's like the manager of a baseball game in a postgame interview with journalists. Rules may be established what questions are acceptable and what questions are unacceptable. Agree on a time limit a person is being interviewed with other people. The next person clockwise becomes the person being interviewed.

Work Sat Aug 23, 2014

The store was dead working at the second location on Sun Aug 10. The only customer activity happened during the final holes in the PGA Championship golf tournament. Congrats to Rory McIlroy. The staff went home 45 minutes early before closing at 6:15pm. The bad attitude manager emailed me asking where were the pricing grids? Damn.

Tue Aug 12 was another day of too much deliveries and too much inventory. There was not enough selling. I had a conversation with the receiving clerk discussing the increased inventory. I was reminded during the dot com recession Cisco lost money due to a glut of inventory.

A bombshell hit the entire staff on Wed Aug 13. The owner informed everyone Fri's wine tasting was changed. Fourteen new wines replaced the initial tasting lineup. A part time worker and I scrambled delaying our primary responsibilities to add the new wines in the database. Many of us were angry. Management wondered why there were too many new wines still in the back of the store without prices. I wonder why.

The part time data entry/bookkeeper complained and expressed her frustrations there were too many emails exchanged and too many people confused. She said "crazy" many times. I told her assuming was bad. To assume makes an ass out of you and me.

Fri Aug 15 was a typical day. The store was filled for the tasting. The part time data entry poured wines in the tasting room. The bad attitude manager turned good for the day. He helped me with the outstanding invoices by handing some of the invoices to the shipping clerk. I took 30 minute lunches through the week because there was too much work.

The tasting attendance was respectable at the second store on Sat Aug 16. There was some activity. We could have more customers. I had lots of free time I played receiving clerk. I priced cases, cleaned up the back area, and tidied up the kitchen.

The drive to the store was another instance I always arrive late to work no matter what time I leave the house. Google traffic maps stated the freeway was jammed with cars. I saw the freeway bridge seeing no traffic backup. I was in the middle lane. I didn't have enough time and there were too many cars to merge to the freeway entrance safely. All of the signaled intersections were red lights. I clocked out work 25 minutes early.

I clocked out 1 hour and 15 minutes early on Sun Aug 17. The manager closed the second store early after a dead day. I updated my apps on my phone during my long free time.

The deliveries continued on Tue Aug 19. I was exhausted. I was happy Wed Aug 20 was a day off. It was my first Wed day off.

There were too many invoices on my laptop on Thur Aug 21. I didn't finish. Everyone arrived to work late. All the freeways were congested. However, it wasn't the latest I clocked in.

I submitted my two week notice on Fri Aug 22. The first owner choked at the beginning of her sentence after I handed my resignation letter. The second owner congratulated me when I drove to the second store after my shift was over at the first store. I encountered all red lights at all signaled intersections. I told the receiving clerk and two front end sales I submitted my two week notice. One of the two front end sales I told we were watching the assistant manager conducting an interview. She shared her thoughts about too much inventory. She wasn't the only worker with those thoughts.

I carried 40 pounds of ice from the supermarket to the second store on Sat Aug 23 for a big tasting event involving caviar. The turnout was good. I was productive completing all pricing grids for all new products for the week. The store opened late because the co-owner left his keys inside the store. We waited for the manager.

Mike's Rules

I create new rules to give my life more strength. I name the rules "Mike's Rules" because there was a night time staffer at my gym named Mike. He smiled and small talked with the members. He reminded me to begin greetings in a friendly way; moreover, communicate a variety of greetings. I wish him luck pursuing a career in law enforcement.

Here are Mike's Rules:

Complement A Person. Your goals are to recognize the person's presence, make the person smile, and say thank you. For example, complement on the person's boots.

Take The Initiative to make people feel better. A complement is a good idea. Other ideas include offering assistance, be a good listener, and being the person to get change to help pay the bill in a restaurant.

Communicate the other person's name. Write the person's name on the email. Say the person's name first when communicating to him or her. Sir, miss, ladies, and gentlemen are acceptable.

Begin And End In A Friendly Way. Greet the people you see for the first time today. Good morning. How's your day? Are you feeling better? Top of the morning. What has been going on? Say goodbye to the people you see for the last time today. Drive safely. Have a good day. Bye guys. Ladies, take care. Add variety to your greetings and endings.

Smile. Self explanatory.

Give Sincere Appreciation. Self explanatory, too.

Small Talk. Small talk is acceptable conversations. Sometimes small talk leads to long conversations. Small talk can be useful to meet new people.

Be Professional. The most important rule in Mike's Rules. Do everything professionally. Be a pro. We watch professional sports players on television. They're working. They're performing at their highest professional level.

I add three new rules that are excluded from the original list.

Addendum #1: Fake It 'Til You Believe It. There are going to be moments you must trust you intuition. Convince yourself you can do it for others to follow. Believe in yourself.

Addendum #2: A Quote I Remember. "You can choose comfort or you can choose courage, but you cannot have both." --Theodore Roosevelt

Addendum #3: High Power. I pose and present my physical self in the high power.

Tell Your Story

There are stories every day. Every living day a story is born. Every living night a story is born. Stories can be created in a person's sleep. Nobody doesn't have to be an English major or famous writer. Live life to the fullest with strength and integrity. The stories follow.

I believe telling our stories to friends, family, acquaintances, co-workers, and people bring everyone together. Stories are easier to tell when a person lives an active life. I have stories to share. The best stories started on Sat Oct 4, 2008 when I realized I must grow up. On the other hand, I have best stories before Sat Oct 4, 2008; these stories I remember because I don't want to repeat the mistakes I learned. These best stories are positive and negative. I can share stories when I rode the San Francisco Cable Car and walked on the Golden Gate Bridge for the first time. I can share stories when I lived a lonely life. I can share stories visiting Canada. I can share stories embarrassing myself. I can share stories from my ballroom dance classes. I can share stories of moments that made me sad.

Every day people live we have a story to share with another person. Don't live a boring life. Live a life to tell a story. Job promotions, graduations, marriages, meeting new people, traveling, cooking new foods, reading books, taking a weekend trip, school, shopping, gardening, etc. Job loss, deaths, car accidents, injuries, rejections, relationship break-ups, sicknesses, etc. There are people who are interested in happy stories and sad stories.

"Let Me Think", A New Social Problem I Must Fix

Laughing out too loud and laughing out too much were a social problem I corrected earlier this year. I believe I laughed too loud because I have partial tone deaf which I can't control. Another reason I laughed too loud was I wanted to be noticed. I felt ignored. I wanted people to recognize I'm in the room even though I'm bad a telling jokes and making people laugh. I even laughed at stupid jokes that should not have a laughable response.

I'm happy laughing too loud was corrected. I'm calm. I think a few more seconds before reacting to a joke. I listen more carefully. I laugh at an appropriate volume which is laughing quieter than the noise level. I have more control laughing.

My new social problem is being discrete. I'm an open person. I talk about almost anything about my life. I say about 98% of who, what, where, why, and how of Raymond Mar is open when I communicate with many people. The downside to being open is being too open sometimes.

I have a problem saying too much. I have a problem what I'm saying and how I'm saying with no control. I speak quickly because I feel dumb if I don't speak immediately in a conversation. Speaking quickly can be dumb. Errors and lapse statements are the results. I don't think ahead in a conversation. I don't think deeply enough. "Let me think" should be three words I must say more frequently. Pausing in a conversation is better than a too quick response.

I'm not a person who communicates my mind or a person who "always speaks his or her mind" regardless of being good, bad, a criticism, or a complement anytime, anywhere, and anyone. I'm not a person who communicates to create a loud and rowdy argument. I'm not a person who wants to start a confrontation. I'm very good at avoiding a scene publicly or at another person's house. And I'm very good at keeping confidential information and secrets.

I must strengthen my discretion. I must learn to speak more maturely with a trustworthy and a controllable tone. I must learn to choose my words wisely. There are some situations where sharing something is ill-advised. I succeed at learning how to control all my communication aspects in time.

A Brief Talk On Communicating

Good communicating or conversation skills are important to meet new people and make new friends. Socializing is simply a conversation with people. Sometimes, there is an activity before or after the conversation. Listening and talking with people are good as long as you’re not boring and have something to say. It can be current events you follow, an article worth sharing, a place you recently visited, a fun activity, or a personal story. A joke is good as long as the timing and audience are appropriate.

Here are my personal tips on communicating and conversation:

*Avoid talking and talking all the time.
*Avoid Q&A conversation as if you’re asking questions and the other person is answering your questions. It’s not an interview.
*Listening is good, too.
*You have no problems being with people and being an interesting person with stories. Observation skills are a plus.
