Facebook Friends

My Facebook friends count is 233 as of today's blog. 233 is a lot. 1,000 friends are more than 233 friends obviously speaking. A rational perspective 233 is a big number. My friends consist of friends, families, co-workers, friends of friends, and acquaintances.

My true friends count is at least 242. Some friends defriended me. Some friends closed their accounts. I recognize friends closing their accounts for personal reasons. The friends who defriended me must have a good reason. I defriended zero friends because life is a full circle; although, I defriended one friend as a request from my sister. I don't know when the next time I see any of my friends. It can be a reunion. It can be a networking opportunity. It can be a contact person when I'm at their home city. It can be an emergency. My reason to defriend must be serious. I don't defriend to clean my friends list. I don't want to burn bridges unnecessarily. Rebuilding a bridge can be difficult.

Keep the relationships. Maintain the support by like, comment, and posting happy birthdays.

Be Concern For The Future Human Relationships

My brother forgot to bring back his children's 2019 middle school yearbook when they visited. I looked at the yearbook. Two thoughts entered my mind. The first was COVID-19. The second was human relationships.

The following year 2020 began the COVID-19 global pandemic. Planet Earth shutdown. In particular, the schools in the United States. Students learned online at their residences. No human interaction between students and teachers. No human interaction between students and students. No classmates helping each other in schoolwork. No classmates talking to each other. No learning skills outside the textbooks. No physical activity; although, physical education teachers might assign home workouts plans.

Furthermore, no learning socializations. No meeting new people. No clubs. No lunch time activities. No after school sports where school teams play other school teams. No school sponsored events such as dances, recitals, and theatre. I wonder if yearbooks were issued.

Latter Generation Z Zoomers And All Generation Alpha Can't Relate With Each Other

I fear decades later humans have difficulty talking with other humans. The Generation Z Zoomers is people born between 1997 and 2012. The Generation Alpha is people born from 2013 to present. There is a chance the Generation Z born from 2009 to 2012 and all Generation Alpha fear being with other humans. The media reporting may be correct. COVID-19 has been a setback for school age children and teenagers learning how to win people professionally, personally, and socially. I hope these people catch up what they missed on human relations and human communications. It's possible they succeed. They need assistance. They need to work harder.

Top Ten Plus Five Equals Top Fifteen Crappy 1990s Best Moments

My biggest life regret as of today's blog is I failed to live the 1990s to the best of my ability. My downs outnumbered the ups. My ups were crappy ups. Many of the ups were unearned like a baseball team scoring an unearned run or the ups were given on a silver platter. I took the ups for granted. Life was unfair in the 1990s. Life is unfair today. Some people had more downs than ups. I was one of them.

In my opinion, the 1990s is best decade in the history of the human race. The economy was fantastic; although, former Federal Reserve Chairman Alan Greenspan's monetary policy is another conversation. Fuel injection engines in automobiles. The internet. Email communication. Watch movies on DVDs. Listen to music on CDs. Mobile cell phones. Windows 95 and Windows 98. Nintendo. Playstation. Apple began the comeback when the late Steve Jobs came back. Opportunities were plentiful. Everyone got a piece of the pie. A piece of the pie was given just by participating.

If my courage increased 20%, then I got a bigger piece of the pie. If two people at the minimum, at any place, and at any time introduced me to something, anything positively new, then I live in freedom today. If either the same two people or two different people at the minimum, at any place, and at any time called out my faults, then I live in freedom today.

One high school moment worth mentioning was I attended summer school Geometry after my sophomore year. I made new friends. I was able to take Algebra II in my junior year and Trigonometry & Pre-Calculus in my senior year. I saw most of my friends in the math classes. Moreover, the summer school was a foreshadow because the school district closed my high school after my junior year. I graduated high school at the same school I took my summer school Geometry.

I salvaged the 1990s. I was naive. I received poor support. I didn't know how to make intelligent mistakes. It was not entirely my fault. I accepted my share of responsibility. All is forgiven today. I have been catching up what I missed since I realized I must grow up on Sat Oct 4, 2008. Experiences experienced. Lessons learned. Wisdom acquired. The catching up continues. Here are the top fifteen crappy 1990s best moments.

15. 1993 Bike Ride (Summer 1993). I rode my bike randomly around my neighborhood exploring parts of West San Jose and Campbell, CA. The places included Westmont High School, San Tomas Aquinas Creek, and John D. Morgan park.

14. Working Out At The Gym (Sep 1998, May 1999). My first gym was at my first company's office park. My second gym was at a real gym. I continue physical workouts today.

13. My First Webpage (1998). I created my first webpage at geocities.com Tokyo Bay 9061.

12. The Year Of The Role Playing Game (RPG) (1997). 1997 was the perfect year for RPG. Everyone was in San Jose, everyone adjusted their college and work schedules, everyone participated in the action, and the plots were terrific. The memories are remembered for a long time.

11. Las Vegas Grand Canyon (Jul 1997). My family's first biggest summer vacation. We stayed at a time share during our stay in Las Vegas. We took a two-day trip to the Grand Canyon. The vacation was my first time in Las Vegas, first time I gambled, and my first time in Arizona.

10. Around The State Of California In 90 Days (May-Aug 1995). 1995 was filled with family vacations. We visited Disneyland, visited Yosemite, canoed in the Sacramento River, and visited my grandparents in Santa Barbara. Yosemite was my first time visiting a national park.

9. San Jose State University (1992-1997). I choose San Jose State number nine even though many people think graduating from college should be higher in a person's life. I'm an exception.

*Fall Semester 1993. I earned a C- taking Computer Science 46A despite failing the final. The professor gave me a break. I attended all classes. I completed all the homework. Doing the minimums saved my ass.

*Fall Semester 1994. Physics 60 final. "I studied three hours for that!", said a classmate. Most students completed the four-choice multiple-choice final in 30 minutes. The final was very easy a high school student could earn an A.

*Fall Semester 1995. I changed majors from Mathematics to Economics and changed minors from Economics to Mathematics. My dream of teaching high school math was over. The switch was a good choice looking back. I believe I stopped being a teacher in today's public education environment.

I made a big deal thinking about the change initially. I thought back. The change should have been immediate. My Economic major classes became interesting. I met more classmates. My GPA went up at the end of each semester.

*Fall Semester 1996. My perfect semester. I attended classes on Tue and Thur. I learned how to write. 3.64 was my semester GPA. I mastered the shooting arcade game Area 51. I lost weight. I began listening to music while I studied.

*Fall Semester 1997. My last semester. I attended classes three days a week. I can't explain why I didn't schedule my semesters for at least one day off. Today's college environment most classes meet two days a week instead of some classes meeting either two days a week or three days a week.

8. Music (Various Dates). Yanni, Enya, Mariah Carey, Celine Dion, Madonna, Shawn Colvin, Sarah McLachlan, LeAnn Rimes, Jewel, No Doubt, Alanis Morissette, Donna Lewis, Hootie And The Blowfish, Paula Cole, Sixpence None The Richer, The Cranberries, Sting, Wilson Phillips, R.E.M., and Spice Girls.

7. Self-training Job Skills (1998). I taught myself Excel, Access, PowerPoint, and HTML. Learning Access helped me get my second job. I wished I continued the self-training attitude indefinitely.

6. The Snowman And Pinky Show (1994-1995). I played stuffed animals with my younger sister. Snowman was The Snowman from the book written by Raymond Briggs. Pinky was a blue bear with a pink nose. The other animals were bears related to Pinky. There was another snowman who looked like The Snowman named cousin Snow. We were terrible naming the stuffed animals. Most of the bear names were referenced from The Simpsons and favorite family movies.

I was Snowman, cousin Snow, and the extras. My sister was Pinky and his bear family.

5. Blockbuster Video (1996-1997). My first retail job. The store manager and I attended the same high school which was the number one reason he hired me.

4. Weekend Trip To Santa Barbara, CA (Aug 1998). My mom and I picked up my grandfather in Santa Barbara, CA as a last minute trip driving the Mercury Sable 1997 station wagon. We transported our family birds to one of my aunts in Los Angeles to be picked up. We listened to music on my portable CD player connected to the radio cassette deck for the first time.

The next day we drove my grandfather back to the Bay Area. The highlight of the trip was a Ford Mustang driving next to me from Soledad to San Jose. Sometimes I was in front of the Mustang. Sometimes the Mustang was in front of me. We separated at the Junction 85-17 freeway.

3. Weekend Trip To Cal Poly (Apr 1998). A friend invited me to visit him during the annual Cal Poly Open House weekend. I helped his club raise money cooking teriyaki chicken at the food booths. The weekend vacation was the first time I went on vacation solo. I went shopping at an outlet strip mall purchasing neck ties.

2. Japanese Anime (1996). I became an anime fan. I woke up listening to the ending song from Sailor Moon when my sister watched the English anime dub. I watched a variety of anime series when I rented anime at Blockbuster Video. The first anime series I purchased was the first season of Ranma 1/2. I attended my first anime convention Fanime Con in Mar 1997.

1. My First Jobs After College (Jul 1998 And Feb 1999). The commercial real estate industry was my first two jobs. My boss who hired me at my first job also hired me at my second job. I worked in the industry for 8.5 years.

Matching Connections Between People Get Along With Each Other

I dreamed last night I played softball at a privately owned softball park. The softball park consisted of many softball fields, batting cages, a soccer field, and a central building for administrative, operations, and a cafeteria.

The first part of the dream I played in the left outfield. Each team required four outfielders. I played between the true left fielder and center fielder. No balls went my way. The left fielder was a grade school child. He caught all the fly balls hit his way. He fielded all the ground balls hit his way. The game ended. The grade school child was recruited for another softball team.

The second part of the dream I wondered around looking for a team who needed an outfielder. I found another team. There was a two minute interview. The team accepted me. The weirdness was the second game I played was inside the narrow rectangular office suites of an industrial building. The entrance of the office suite or the reception was the infield. The first office suite with no windows was the shallow outfield. The second office suite with windows at the back was the deep outfield. The captain, vice-captain, and I played the outfield at the second office suite. There was a fourth outfield who didn't appear in my dream.

The game started. The team played poorly. All three of us couldn't catch fly balls defensively. The team couldn't get on base offensively. It was three batters up and three batters down. The opposition scored runs without problems. There was in-team fighting and arguing. I asked the umpire named Mr. RR about the maximum seven runs scored per inning rule in the middle of the game. The umpire acknowledged the rule. The opposition scored seven runs in their inning. The umpire told the captain of the opposing team to switch sides. The captain was angry.

There was enough time in the one hour of gameplay for the final four batters to step up to the plate. I was batter number ten. I hoped at least of the three reached base for me to bat. The opposition didn't send a pitcher. Mr. RR pitched for the opposition. One of the three batters reached second base on a double. I approached the batter's box. Mr. RR gave me a wink. The first pitch was in the middle of the plate. I hit the ball deep to the outfield or the second office suite for a two run inside the park home run. The team celebrated at home plate and at the dugout like we won the championship. The game ended. I woke up.

I finished the dream consciously lying on my bed. The team went to the central building cafeteria. We ate pizza. We drank beer. There were smiles. There was socializing; although, some of the conversations was drunk talk. There was singing. There was joy. Everyone connected. I established the connections. It took one action to combine a group of people. It took one event to bring togetherness. It took one moment to be together. It took one person to spark a group of people to become together.

I Owe The World By Making A Difference

Today's blog is an update on a past blog.

Update On A Past Blog

I thought about all my past friends and my past co-workers. 95% of them got my backs if anything bad happened. Good people support good people. Good friends support good friends. I failed to realize all 95% supported me. My past friends go as far back as junior high school.

I questioned did I make a difference to the 95% from the blog Did I Make A Difference? written on Jul 7, 2015. I said the 95% made a difference to me. "They made my life better. I'm a better person today."

I failed to be a difference maker to the 95%. I could have been and I should have been a better friend. I have no excuses. I owe the 95% something in return. I don't know what is the something. My feeling tells me the something must be multiple permanent life changers big or small.

I can't explain what I did correctly to earn their friendships. I thank my intuition. Was it I showed up? Was it I listened well? Was it I smiled when they needed a smile? I hope my self-pity didn't attract people.

The minimum owing back the 95% is become stronger. Don't be a jerk. The world needs one less bad person. I assure the 95% and the world I practice personal responsibility. I wrote I Owe The World on Apr 8, 2018 I take care of myself in a positive way such as working hard to earn freedom, stay healthy, and never stop learning.

Third Party Dream

Three dreams last night. I was the third-party perspective watching from above like a camera drone hovering above in the first dream and the second dream. I was a participant for the third dream.

The first dream. There were two houses next to each other. An old man lived in one house. He was an army veteran. He was late on his rent. He was one month away from being evicted. He dated an old woman who was a Harry Potter fan or Potterhead. The old man became a Potterhead. She helped pay his rent. They played Harry Potter trivia outside the front yard. The neighbor befriended the old man who was also a Potterhead. The neighbor helped the old man in Harry Potter trivia against his girlfriend.

The second dream. There was an apartment complex in a lower-class neighborhood. Colors were brownish tone. The complex was multi-floor. There was no fenced backyard for all first-floor units. One unit had a family of three consisting of the father, mother, and son around four years old. The father became a dead-beat dad leaving the apartment unit. The son didn't know what happened. The mother didn't appear in my dream.

The third dream. I was a rookie business journalist. My editor boss was the Michael Keaton character from the movie Spotlight. My first assignment was finding winning stocks to recommend. I worked hard. I made mistakes. Keaton approved my stocks. My article was printed. The song The Middle by Jimmy Eat World played in my mind. I continued writing good business articles.

There was a brief fourth dream. I walked on my neighborhood street on the opposite side of my house towards the apartments. I saw my dad driving his old white Honda Civic 4-speed manual transmission hatchback towards me.

There are people who remain single for the rest of their lives. Their faces show it. Their behavior displays it. Their communication is obvious. Their physical appearance confirms it. No maturity. No professionalism. These single people are pissed off. These single people are mad. I speak on behalf of the world. The world doesn't care.

There are exceptions. Two pissed off people can get married. An angry person matches with another angry person. Another exception is two useless people can get married. A useless person matches with another useless person. I'm not friends with an angry couple or a useless couple.

An Old Fuck Is Not Sexy

Old fuckers are unsexy. They apply to men and to women. Brains are sexy; however, desire is more important than knowledge. Confidence is sexy. Physical fitness is attractive. Financial stability is relaxing. Good sleep is youthfulness. Stories are ice breakers. Friendships are moment generators. Old fuckers are angry. Don't be an old fuck either single or in a relationship.

Stop the self-pity. Get to work. People 18 or over are adults. Schools aren't responsible to teach never stop learning attitude. Most parents fail to teach their children life is an infinite school. Pissed off sons and daughters forgive your parents. Correct their mistakes. Seek new adventures. Experience new experiences. Never stop innovating life. Fortunately, I learn the lessons myself before I became old.

Jerry Seinfeld is correct. He said 90% of the population is undatable. People increase their chances being datable by relaxing and by being useful. People acting and behaving desperate rarely works.

Top Ten Plus Three Equals Thirteen I'm In The Minority Opinions

Expressing our opinions is a basic human right. Good people listen to opinions. Good people respect other people's opinions. There are opinions in the majority. There are opinions in the minority. I share my opinions I believe I'm in the minority. One opinion I'm in the minority is people experience racism, discrimination, and prejudice daily. The three exists today. The three existed yesterday. The three exists tomorrow. Racism, discrimination, and prejudice continue throughout history indefinitely.

Here are the top ten plus three equals thirteen I'm in the minority opinions:

13. If you don't have the money and don't have the future income, then don't have children. The costs of raising children go up every year. A family is too expensive. Condoms are cheaper than diapers. Parents don't need a PS5. Parents need long-term stable income.

12. A common health knowledge is eat five fruits and vegetables a day. I eat three fruits and vegetables a day. Another common health knowledge is drink eight glasses of water a day. I drink water when I'm thirsty. I'm the healthiest ever. The two common health knowledge are marketing and too easy health advice.

11. Men's And Women's Bare Necessities. Men can use women's bare necessities. Women can use men's bare necessities. For example, I use women's body wash.

10. Weigh Yourself Daily. Body weight is an indicator of your present health status. Weighing yourself daily is not weakening your self-esteem; on the other hand, it may motivate you to live a healthy life.

9. Your fiancee's parents are a poor forecast how your fiancee becomes your lawfully wedded spouse when the two of you get married. Your fiancee's parents are like stocks or professional sports drafts. Past performance is not a guarantee of future results. Your fiancee parent's actions, behavior, knowledge, and opinions don't predict your fiancee's actions, behavior, knowledge, and opinions.

8. Work And Life Balance Is False. Whoever thought of the term or fad might have made it up to make money. Fads are short-term. The fad inventors maximize earning money quickly before the fad is forgotten.

7. Students learn life working in retail. High school students and college students learn book knowledge in the classrooms. High school students and college students learn reality in retail. Parents must make your children earn money by working part-time in retail.

6. Tough Job Market. The job market is tight indefinitely. People graduate school, college, or a trade school every year. There are not enough opportunities to hire new graduates. More people delay retirement. More jobs are eliminated by technology such as robots and automation.

5. Your inside is more important than your outside. False. Your inside and your outside are equally important. Physical appearance is important. We do judge a book by its cover.

4. Alfred Lord Tennyson said, "'Tis better to have loved and lost than never to have loved at all." The quotation is false. It's better to be single than in a toxic relationship. It's better to be single than in a mis-match relationship. Many people choose to be with someone even by dumbing down themselves to avoid loneliness. Don't disrespect yourself. There is strength, courage, and wisdom to be single. Don't lose self-respect to be in a relationship.

Moreover, I repeat number five. Your inside and your outside are equally important. Physical appearance is important. We do judge a book by its cover.

3. All schools add an extra year. Elementary school pre-kindergarten is mandatory before kindergarten. Junior high school add a fourth year for grades 6-9. High school add a fifth year for grades 10-14. There is too much to learn. Expectations are too high. Students need more time. Parents, school administrators, and the government need more patience.

2. There are too many *fill in the blank*. There are too many restaurants, TV shows, books, people, podcasts, useless junk, etc. Many of the *fill in the blank* are garbage.

1. More people are not going to succeed. There are too many people. There are too few opportunities. Life is zero-sum. The world is zero-sum. The size of the pie is always the same. There are people who fail no matter what. There are unsuccessful people no matter what. Many works hard and follow their dreams. Few succeed. Many times something happens beyond their control they become unsuccessful. Blame life. Life is not fair.

Everyone Gets A Piece Of The Pie

The Los Angeles Angels fired visiting clubhouse manager Brian "Bubba" Harkins in Mar 2020. Harkins worked with the Angels since 1990. A visiting clubhouse manager and his staff prepare equipment and uniforms for the players before the game starts. Also, a visiting clubhouse manager is like a hotel concierge.

Harkins provided a "foreign substance" for pitchers to improve their control pitching the baseball. Harkins was taught how to make the "foreign substance" by Angels' pitcher Troy Percival 20 years ago. The substance was available by request. Most pitchers and coaches paid Harkins to cover the costs. No profit was made. Any "foreign substance" on a baseball or doctoring is against baseball rules. Pitchers were quoted Major League Baseball (MLB) allowed doctoring for at least a century. However, the middle of 2021 MLB announced umpires search suspected pitchers for any "foreign substance." Pitchers caught with a "foreign substance" are suspended. No pitcher has been terminated for cheating.

Harkins filed lawsuit against the Angels and MLB for defamation and being the scapegoat on Aug 2020. The Angels and MLB filed a motion for dismissal on Nov 2020. The Orange County Superior Court dismissed the lawsuit on Jan 2021.

Equal Access

My response is the "foreign substance" is open to everyone. Everyone gets access. All pitchers are included. All MLB teams are included. No pitcher wants to exclude another pitcher because the pitcher may get angry. The angry pitcher tells MLB officials the illegal activity even though MLB doesn't enforce the rules. The piece of the pie is available. All parties are satisfied. Everyone is happy at the end of the day.

Update On A Past Blog

Today's blog contradicts The Size Of The Pie Is Still The Same on Jun 23, 2016. I wrote there are too many people living on Earth. The size of the pie doesn't increase to accommodate the increasing amount of people. More people don't get a piece of the pie. A genius can solve the problem by eliminating greed.

The Jul 15, 2019 blog Too Many People was about a church building 44 affordable apartment units. The church received over 5,000 applications. The 44 unit pie didn't increase.

A 46 Year Old Mind And Spirit Inside A 13 Year Old Body

I dreamed last night my adult mind and adult spirit was inside a preteen boy. Warped to the past. Transferred to the past. Reincarnated to the past. Transported to another universe. Slid to another dimension. Traveled permanently to another world. The reader can make up any verb.

I was in eighth grade at my actual same junior high school. The class was physical education (PE). The PE teachers combined the boys and girls for co-ed basketball. The class was held in the cafeteria which was also the gym. The boys and girls lined up. The coaches randomly assigned the boys and girls to teams. I maintained my mind and spirit as a 46 year old on planet Earth on January 9, 2021 throughout the team selection. I asked myself in the back of my head, "What's going on here? Why am I back in junior high?" I reminded myself I know Steph Curry and the Golden State Warriors, Michael Jordan and the Chicago Bulls, and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar being the NBA's all-time scoring leader.

I was selected in team #3. My team played poorly. We didn't play as a team. We were confused. Nobody knew how to play basketball. I took charge. I became like Draymond Green of the Warriors. I directed my team to play offense and play defense. I played like Curry shooting long range shots and passing to open players.

I became popular during the lunch hour. I went to the outdoor basketball courts after I ate lunch at the benches. I talked with my classmates on random topics. Students came up to me asking how to play basketball. Two particular students thanked me and bowed to me as if I'm their grandfather.

My philosophical question is the following: Are genius people geniuses being possessed from another person's mind and spirit? Any person with past knowledge and past experience has an advantage.

Today's top eleven blogs are inspired from a person I used to know. I admit I knew little about him; however, I knew enough he was an idiot. He was weak. Self-esteem was poor. He might impress people as a knight in shining armor. I saw past the armor as a person wearing tin foil. I wrote blogs inspired by his weakness vowing don't be him. Also, I warn men and women don't become him. Time will tell the top eleven A.J.A.Y blogs are true. I have been connecting the dots noted by the periods in the title. The dots have been connecting perfectly.

11. The Gendo Smile From Reddit (Sep 7, 2019). I created my first meme. The character Gendo Ikari from the anime series Neon Genesis Evangelion always smiled when he knew he won. I had been smiling. I knew I was correct.

10. Where Is The Intelligence? (Aug 24, 2019). To quote Steve Jobs, "Life can be much broader once you discover one simple fact, and that is everything around you that you call life was made up by people that were no smarter than you, and you can change it, you can influence it, you can build your own things that other people can use. Um, once you learn that, you'll never be the same again." Are all people in my life losing intelligence or is my intelligence getting stronger?

9. Going Up Or Getting Better Am I? (Sep 8, 2019). My intelligence is getting stronger. I'm becoming a self-trained genius.

The Real Life Match Game

Today I want to talk about match. *insert bad joke* I'm not talking about the Excel MATCH() function which finds the location of a string or number in an array. *insert another bad joke* I'm not talking about The Match Game TV game show past and present. I'm talking about match relationships. Relationships are everything. Relationships are between people, places, and things. Matches are between people, places, and things.

Is there a match between one person and another person professionally, among friends, dating, and with family? Nobody gets along with everyone. If everyone gets along with everyone, then there's no need for attorneys. One person is not for everyone. One person may be a top 1% in the world. The person is good, strong, smart, experienced, and smiles; however, the one person is not a match for another person. It's nobody's fault. There's nothing to be ashamed the good person can't get along with another person. Different folks for different strokes.

Likewise a person matches with places. A person matches with cold weather cities. Another person matches with warm weather cities. A person matches with big cities. Another person matches with small towns. A person matches with beaches. Another person matches with forests.

Finally, a person matches with things. A person matches with computers. Another person matches with collecting shoes. A person matches with books on print. Another person matches with books on a tablet. A person matches on fixing cars. Another person matches with sewing. A person matches with traveling. Another person matches with wood working.

There Are Exceptions

There are people who match with 99% of other people. These people possess natural charisma, strength, intelligence, beauty, wisdom, charm, and kindness. These people have strong self-esteem, strong self-confidence, and pure self-responsibility. These people communicate well with proper words everyone pays attention. These people are professionals. Most of these people are not celebrities. Celebrity examples who match with 99% of other people are George Clooney, the late President Ronald Regan, Sir Paul McCartney, Sir Richard Branson, and President Bill Clinton in my opinion. Most 99% of other people non-celebrity are humble. Personally, I'm doing my best to model these 99% of other people. I don't have natural beauty. My communication skills are almost professional. I do my best to match as many characteristics as these exceptional 99% of other people.

Update On A Past Blog

I have been waking up at 8:00am instead of 10:00am consistently. The earlier wake-up reminded me of the blog My Two Grandfathers on Jul 3, 2018. My two grandfathers woke up early consistently. My grandfather on my dad's side owned a restaurant. He maintained early to bed and early to rise daily schedule. My grandfather on my mom's side woke up early to take care of his mother who lived a long time in a nursing home after suffering a stroke. The immediate benefits of my new sleep schedule include learning new job skills and job searching immediately after breakfast, eating my meals at a normal time, and sleeping at a normal time. I continue the early to bed and early to rise to prepare for my next job. A common life wisdom is, "The early bird gets the worm."

*Stress must be in the Center for Disease Control (CDC) infectious diseases. A group of people stresses out when one person in the group stressed out. Stress is contagious.

Rotten Tomatoes rated Out Of Africa 59%. I'm in the minority. I give Out Of Africa four stars because Streep's character moved back to her home country. I'm not being specific to avoid spoilers.

SOMT: Fast Times At Ridgemont High

Blogger’s Note: SOMT stands for Sign Of My Times, an occasional blog sharing my thoughts how time changes life from when I was young to today.

The times were fast when the movie was released in 1982. Today's high school life fast is light speed. The coming of age, comedy, high school life is a classic movie. For example, the list of actors and actresses we know today include Sean Penn, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Judge Reinhold, Forest Whitaker, and Nicholas Cage. We also know Ray Walston and Phoebe Cates. I add the movie to my wish list. It was the first time I saw Fast Times At Ridgemont High movie. Most of the theme of high school in the 80s is true today such as sex, drugs, music, and naturally curious.

I compared and contrasted my high school life and today's high school life while I watched the movie. I concentrated 50% of my brain watching the movie and 50% of my brain thinking back to my past. I share some of my comparing and contrasting below:

*Telephone. Past teenagers lived the good life having their own phone in their rooms. They practiced maturity, privacy, and independence. It was the best way to have a real time conversation without being face to face. Times have changed with smart phones. Teenagers today can practice maturity, privacy, and independence anywhere. Email, texting, and social networking reduce the old school real time conversation talking on the phone.

*Go to a friend's house. Let's go to a friend's house to hang out. Real time socialization. Today's information age more teenagers are hanging out online via social networks. Perhaps, it's a generation change and/or culturally related. More parents aren't allowing their sons and daughters to invite their friends over. I don't know why. Responsible parents must allow their sons and daughters to invite their friends over at the house for safety reasons and to keep the parent-child bond strong.

*Take a chance. Leap of faith. Let life dictate. I'm speaking from experience. We can't control everything in life. Sometimes we must let life choose for us. Take a chance to let life set a pathway. My high school life was good and bad letting life dictate most my high school days. I admit I should have taken more control of my life. Perhaps, I learned an important high school life lesson I realized later in life: sometimes trust fate, destiny, and karma to bring good moments.

*Trial and error. We forgot the best way to learn via trial and error. Everyone is expected to learn quickly today. Everyone is expected to know everything today. No more discovery. No more patience. The information age makes learning instant without making errors; for example, Google the unknown. How are high school students supposed to learn without making mistakes?

*Meet people from other people. Another benefit going to a friend's house was the opportunity to meet new people. Past high school students expanded their circle of friends face to face or telephoning each other. High school students today can expand their circle of friends online without meeting face to face. Is meeting new people online genuine?
