The number one makes a difference scene> Bull Durham- Best Scene reminds me of the blog Today I Want To Talk About The Numbers Greater Than Zero And Less Than Or Equal To One written on Jun 17, 2020. Percentages make a difference. 20% increase. 20% decrease. A few percentage points is the difference between *fill in the blank one* and *fill in the blank two*.

*What's ridiculous is to challenge the inevitable.

*If a teacher teaches people how to learn from making mistakes, then the teacher must quit teaching at schools. Find a better job.

*Life Find A Way. From Jurassic Park:

  • Ian Malcolm: Surely not the ones that have bred in the wild?
  • Henry Wu: Actually they can't breed in the wild. Population control is one of our security precautions. There's no unauthorized breeding in Jurassic Park.
  • Ian Malcolm: How do you know they can't breed?
  • Henry Wu: Because all the animals in Jurassic Park are female. We've engineered them that way.
  • . . .
  • Ian Malcolm: But, again, how do you know they're all female? What, does somebody go out in the park and pull up the dinosaurs' skirts?
  • Henry Wu: We control their chromosomes. It's really not that difficult. All vertebrate embryos are inherently female, anyway. They just require an extra hormone given at the right developmental stage to make them male. We simply deny them that.
  • Ellie Sattler: Deny them that?
  • Ian Malcom: John, the kind of control you're attempting is not possible. If there's one thing the history of evolution has taught us, it's that life will not be contained. Life breaks free. Expands to new territories and it crashes through barriers, painfully, maybe even dangerously, but there it is.
  • John Hammond: There it is.
  • Henry Wu: You're implying that a group of composed entirely of female animals will breed?
  • Ian Malcolm: No, I'm simply saying that life finds a way.
I wrote a blog Life Finds A Way on Sep 21, 2021. I said, " Life finds a way to reward people. Life finds a way to punish people. Life finds a way to ruin something good. Life finds a way to help the unfortunate. Time is the ultimate judge."

  • Don't say or show you're the smartest person in the room.

*taint: a trace of a bad or undesirable quality or substance. To contaminate or pollute (something). To hurt or damage the good condition of (something).

*anecdotal: not necessarily true or reliable, because based on personal accounts rather than facts or research. Based on or consisting of reports or observations of usually unscientific observers. Based on reports or things someone saw rather than on proven facts.

*anecdotal evidence: based on personal stories or isolated examples rather than systematic research or data. Information from direct experience or opinions. Qualitative data based on personal stories and observations instead of hard facts.

*Seen In The Movies Don't Do In Real Life. Source: What is a 'Survival Myth' that people believe because of movies, but will actually get you killed in real life?

  • Don't build a boat while shipwrecked on an island. Too many things kill you in water. It's harder for rescue to find you in water. Stay on the island.
  • Conserve water in a desert to an extent. Need a balance. Drink enough to urinate small amounts. Body uses as much of the fluid as possible.
  • Lost in the wilderness stay where you are. However, if you can go to an open area to be seen easier, then move.
  • If you're shot with a bullet, then leave the bullet inside you.
  • If you're knocked out unconscious for a few hours and feel fine afterwards, then you need to see a doctor for head injuries.
  • Snake territory or bear territory make noise and be seen. They don't want to encounter you. Play music is a good idea.
  • Don't wait 24 hours to file a missing person's report even though the law says a person is missing 24 hours later. Missing children is a best example. Report immediately.
  • Don't suck venom from snakebites.
  • Don't eat snow for hydration. Wait for the snow to melt since snow lowers core body temperature.
  • Don't rub frostbite.
  • Cross wider river crossings because narrow rivers have spots with faster and deeper water areas.
  • Drowning victims don't yell and flail because they're concentrating breathing over yelling.
  • Don't drink urine for hydration.
  • If you're being robbed, then throw the wallet on the ground. Run in the opposite direction. Never hand the wallet to the robber.
  • Every city has about four days of food in grocery stores, home kitchens, restaurants, etc. Shelves are emptied fast. Semi-trucks arrive daily to restock. These are normal days. Survival situations starvation and violence to avoid starvation are big concerns.

*Use It Or Lose It Skill Not Like Riding A Bike. Remembering is not like riding a bike. Anything at a high skill level is not like riding a bike. It takes active practice and maintenance to be at the top of your game. For example, muscle strength. Bedridden for a long period of time. It's easier to get muscle strength back for those with muscle strength. Muscle memory. On the other hand, it's harder to get muscle strength back for those who never had muscle strength. People can take breaks for those who put on muscle. Lose the mass in time. Gain muscle back infinitely quicker than obtaining muscle the first time. Likewise for cardio fitness.

Update On A Past Blog

The Weekly Show With Jon Stewart podcast interviewed Democratic National Committee Chair Ken Martin on Sep 25, 2025. Stewart admitted in the post-interview the podcast was a hard listen. The Democratic leadership is weak. YouTube video WANTED: Democratic Leadership with DNC Chair Ken Martin | The Weekly Show with Jon Stewart.

The interview reminded me of the blog The Democrats Are Unhappy They Won written on Sep 8, 2025. I listed past major victories including Obamacare, DEI Diversity Equity Inclusion, and more people earning higher incomes. I add the Democrats are on different pages. There are too many goals. The Democrats are too divided. The Democrats are too diluted. The Democrats are too spread out. The Democrats fail to maintain their victories at the minimum.

Star Wars Episodes IV-VI On Wait And Patience

Here are selected dialogue quotes from Star Wars IV, V, and VI with "wait" or "patience" from iMDB Internet Movie Database. A common life wisdom is patience. Star Wars can teach waiting.

Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope

Darth Vader: [as Obi-Wan finds him and ignites lightsaber] I've been waiting for you, Obi-Wan. We meet again at last. The circle is now complete. When I left you, I was but the learner. Now I am the master.
Ben Obi-Wan Kenobi: Only a master of evil, Darth.
[fights Vader]
Darth Vader: Your powers are weak, old man.
Ben Obi-Wan Kenobi: You can't win, Darth. If you strike me down, I shall become more powerful than you can possibly imagine.
[fights more]
Darth Vader: You should not have come back.
[fights more]
Luke: [Obi-Wan spots him and allows himself to be killed] NO!
[stormtroopers shoot at him]

Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back

[Luke has just encountered Yoda. Yoda is pretending to be senile to test Luke's patience; R2-D2 watches as Yoda plays with a little flashlight-like lamp. Already impatient, Luke tries to take the lamp away from Yoda]
Yoda: Mine! Or I'll help you not.
Luke: I don't want your help. I want my lamp back. I need it to get out of this slimy mudhole.
Yoda: [insulted; as he speaks, R2-D2 opens a side door and extends a pair of pinchers and grabs hold of the lamp and tries to pull the lamp away from Yoda] Mudhole? Slimy? MY home, is this!
Yoda: [startled] Wha?
Luke: [Yoda and R2-D2 start a tug-of-war with the lamp; R2 beeping and humming protestingly] R2, let him have it. [Yoda grabs his cane and starts whacking R2-D2 repeatedly with it]
Yoda: [as he is whacking R2] Mine! Mine! Mine! Mine!
Luke: [firmly] *R2!* [R2 relents, sinking his pinchers into his metallic body. Yoda uses his cane to close the side door for R2-D2's pinchers]

Luke: How far away is Yoda? Will it take us long to get there?
Yoda: Not far. Yoda not far. Patience. Soon you will be with him.

Yoda: Why wish you become Jedi?
Luke: Well, mostly because of my father, I guess.
Yoda: Ahh . . . father. Powerful Jedi was he. Powerful Jedi.
Luke: [suspicious] Oh, come on! How can you know my father? You don't even know who I am. Oh, I don't even know what I'm doing here! We're wasting our time!
Yoda: [Looking away from Luke] I cannot teach him. The boy has no patience.
Obi-Wan: [voice-over] He will learn patience.
Yoda: Much anger in him . . . like his father.
Obi-Wan: [voice] Was I any different when you taught me?

Yoda: Stopped they must be; on this all depends. Only a fully trained Jedi Knight, with the Force as his ally, will conquer Vader and his Emperor. If you end your training now - if you choose the quick and easy path as Vader did - you will become an agent of evil.
Obi-Wan: Patience.
Luke: And sacrifice Han and Leia?
Yoda: If you honor what they fight for? Yes.
Obi-Wan: If you choose to face Vader, you will do it alone. I cannot interfere.
Luke: I understand. R2? Fire up the converters.
Obi-Wan: Luke! Don't give in to hate. That leads to the Dark Side.
Yoda: Strong is Vader. Mind what you have learned. Save you it can.
Luke: I will. And I'll return, I promise.

Star Wars Episode VI: Return Of The Jedi

[Aboard the Death Star, The Emperor's shuttle is greeted by hundreds of Imperial troops and officers. As the last of six red-robed Royal Guards exit the shuttle, both Darth Vader and Moff Jerjerrod kneel in reverence at the foot of the boarding ramp as the Emperor himself emerges]
The Emperor: Rise, my friend.
Darth Vader: The Death Star will be completed on schedule.
The Emperor: You've done well, Lord Vader. And now I sense you wish to continue your search for young Skywalker.
Darth Vader: Yes, my Master.
The Emperor: Patience, my friend. In time, he will seek you out, and when he does, you must bring him before me. He has grown strong. Only together can we turn him to the Dark Side of the Force.
Darth Vader: As you wish.
The Emperor: Everything is proceeding as I have foreseen.

Top Ten Plus Fourteen Equals Top Twenty Four Favorite Black & White Movies

The classic movies. The black & white classic movies. The best movies established today's movies we see today. Take a break from the fast pace Information Age life. Do something different. Slow down. Watch the classics. They're true today. Here are my top ten plus fourteen equals top twenty four favorite black & white movies. There is no restriction on the release year.

24. Why Worry? (1923). A Harold Lloyd and Jobyna Ralston classic.

23. Some Like It Hot (1959). Marilyn Monroe, Tony Curtis, and Jack Lemmon are the names. A comedy and a musical.

22. Modern Times (1936). My only Charlie Champlin movie I watched. No need for green screens. The rush society in the 1930s was a turtle compared to today's rush society.

21. Psycho (1960). An Alfred Hitchcock classic. The ending twist is fantastic.

20. Mr. Smith Goes To Washington (1939). My second James Stewart movie. The politics in the 1930s were the same today.

19. It Happened One Night (1934). Clark Gable stood his ground. You may not laugh out loud during the comedy scenes. A funny romantic comedy a family enjoys.

18. Harvey (1950). James Stewart could do comedy.

17. The Grapes Of Wrath (1940). The movie about the Great Depression and the Dust Bowl did a good job adapting 67% of the book written by John Steinbeck. The ending in the movie was not the ending in the book.

16. Schindler's List (1993). It's bad timing Liam Neeson who played Oskar Schindler lost to Tom Hanks from Philadelphia for best actor. The movie should have double best supporting actor nominations Ralph Fiennes as Amon Goeth and Ben Kingsley as Itzhak Stern.

15. Raging Bull (1980). A movie where a person is the best at something and the best at being a terrible person. Robert DeNiro won an Oscar for best actor.

14. The Philadelphia Story (1940). My first Cary Grant movie. The movie included one of the greatest of all time actor James Stewart and actress Katharine Hepburn. It should be a movie all student actors and student actresses watch.

13. All About Eve (1950). A movie about a fictional biography of a successful Broadway star. The movie watchers realize she's ruthless.

12. Seven Samurai (1954). A poor village hires samurais without pay to protect them from bandits. I watched the movie in two days.

11. Roman Holiday (1953). My critical opinion is Gregory Peck didn't have enough charism. Audrey Hepburn won Best Actress.

10. Metropolis (1927). A science fiction classic with no time boundaries. The futuristic city with dividing social classes. A four star movie.

9. The Apartment (1960). It's all about affairs and adultery in a comedy and romantic way. They existed in the 1960s. They exist today.

8. Citizen Kane (1941). Rosebud.

7. Young Frankenstein (1974). I read the book by Mary Shelley and the 1931 movie before watching Young Frankenstein. Hilarious.

6. Rebecca (1940). A classic psychological thriller. Maybe horror. An early black and white mind twist movie. The only Alfred Hitchcock movie to win an Academy Award for Best Picture.

5. Sunset Blvd. (1950). I heard students majoring in film watch the movie in their undergraduate classes.

4. To Kill A Mockingbird (1962). There is a reason why Gregory Peck portraying Atticus Finch won an Academy Award for Best Actor. Finch was a model strong man and strong father.

3. Paper Moon (1973). Father Ryan O'Neal and daughter Tatum O'Neal are the lead actors. Tatum won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress at age 10. She's the youngest to win an Oscar as of today.

2. 12 Angry Men (1957). If your date says 12 angry men is about a movie about 12 angry men, then end the date immediately.

1. Casablanca (1942). Too many movie quotes: Louie, I think this is the beginning of a beautiful friendship; Here's looking at you, kid; Play it once, Sam; We'll always have Paris.

Top Ten My Last Minute Choices Were Correct

The late Steve Jobs said, "You can't connect the dots looking forward; you can only connect them looking backwards. So you have to trust that the dots will somehow connect in your future. You have to trust in something--your gut, destiny, life, karma, whatever." I connected the dots for the following last minute choice moments. The choices were correct. Here are the top ten my last minute choices were correct.

10. Gilroy Gardens (Jul 23, 2022). My brother's family had two extra tickets to visit the small amusement park in Gilroy, CA. My dad and I went. I did my best to social distance. I initiated social distancing when I walked around the park. I wore my mask except eating. I felt relaxed. It was a good life break.

9. 1998 (Various Dates 1998). Honestly speaking, the opportunities appeared in front of me without effort. I was given no brainer choices.

*Emergency Dentist Filling (Jan 1998). My dentist at the time created an opening for a filling to charge my insurance as a procedure for the 1997 calendar year.
*Celine Dion (Jan). I purchased my first used CD Celine Dion-Celine Dion at a used media store.
*Fanime Con 1998 (Feb 15). I purchased three anime CDs from a dealer who wanted to sell as much inventory before leaving. I was short on cash. He accepted my amount. I didn't pay taxes.
*Cal Poly Open House (May). A friend invited me to visit him during the Cal Poly Open House weekend. The weekend vacation was my first solo vacation.
*Japantown-San Francisco (Jul or Aug). The same Cal Poly friend called me up for a last-minute trip to escape the record heat in San Jose, CA.
*Santa Barbara, CA Weekend Trip (Aug). My mom and I picked up my grandfather driving the Mercury Sable 1997 station wagon. It was the first time the car drove long distance. We listened to music on my portable CD player connected to the radio's cassette deck for the first time. We delivered a cage of birds to one of my aunts.

8. Coraline (Mar 14, 2009). I felt bad at a cosplay gathering in the Japanese garden Hakone Gardens in Saratoga, CA. I wanted to go home quickly. I contacted two friends to watch Coraline with me when I arrived home. Also, another friend organized a 3/14 pie dinner gathering. The three of us ate dinner at the pie dinner gathering. We watched the last showing of Coraline after dinner. I purchased the tickets on a friend's app because I feared the showing was sold out. The theater was dead. It was the first time and last time I purchased movie tickets outside the movie theater.

7. Anime Expo (AX) 2009 (Jul 2-5, 2009). I had no plans to attend AX due to the Great Recession. I changed my mind after Fanime Con 2009 in May 2009. I hung out with my friends. I called my friends. My friends called me. I met new people. I visited Japantown in Los Angeles for the first time afterwards.

6. Ranma 1/2 Season 1 On VHS (Dec 1996). A comic book store was going out of business. The owner sold five of the six VHS tapes in stock for $5 each. The retail price is $30 each. I was short on money at the time.

5. Fanime Con 2004 Midnight Marathon (May 30, 2004). I watched 17 episodes of Fullmetal Alchemist during the Midnight Marathon. I initially planned to watch four episodes. I stayed awake during the entire marathon. I said, "I'm going to cosplay Edward Elric" after episode 8. Fullmetal Alchemist saved me from quitting anime.

4. Washington Canada 2008 (Nov 15-20, 2008). The last minute timing was perfect to visit my friend. My contract at Cisco was terminated. I was lost. I was confused. I didn't know what to do with my life. I needed a break to refocus and reset. We visited Victoria, British Columbia, Canada; Hurricane Ridge; the Rock 'n Roll museum; gambled in a casino; visited Downtown Seattle; and shopped in used bookstores. We watched movies. We played board games. The trip saved me from years of therapy.

3. Shopped For Gym Equipment (Mar 16, 2020). CA Governor Gavin Newsom announced the state shut down on Mar 17, 2020 due to the COVID-19 global pandemic. I shopped the entire afternoon buying gym equipment for my home mini gym. I purchased a 45-pound plate and a 25-pound plate at a specialty fitness store. I purchased the exercise mat at Sports Basement. I continue my strength training at home. My cardio workout is jogging around the neighborhood.

2. Zion National Park Walking Stick (Oct 3-4, 2015). I went backpacking for the first time. The party and I received information The Narrows Top Down backpacking trail is strenuous. I rented a walking stick which saved my ass walking in the river and navigating the rocks. I purchased a pair of trekking poles afterwards.

1. O'Connor Hospital Emergency Room (Apr 2-6, 2017). I thought I had the stomach flu. The pains were sharp like pins pinning my stomach. I went to the emergency room. I was diagnosed with Acute Gallstone Pancreatitis. I required two surgeries for the first time. The first surgery was Endoscopic Retrograde Cholangio Pancreatography which removed gallstones. The second surgery was Laparoscopic Cholecystectomy which removed my gallbladder. I was a hospital in-patient for the first time.

Update On A Past Blog

I mentioned Fanime Con 2009 and AX 2009. Fanime Con 2009 is my all-time favorite anime conventions from the blog Top Ten Favorite Anime Conventions written on Oct 25, 2012. AX 2009 should be on the list because the last minute choice to attend was a good choice. AX 2009 is ranked fifth after Fanime Con 2009, Fanime Con 2010, AX 2006, and Fanime Con 2005.

Personal Reminders To End 2023

Blogger's Note: May is pic month. I'm catching up posting pics from my smart phone. Enjoy!

Khan Noonien Singh read Moby-Dick in exile. A cash register is needed to buy household necessities, lighters, and breakfast cereal. Fear is a natural response seeing a dinosaur wearing a Christmas hat. No fear needed remembering the 1980s. All bad restaurants eventually close. Learn vocabulary shipping words.

Update On A Past Blog

A reminder for everyone including myself. My opinion on finding a number one person is Be Strong, Be Useful, Strong Self-Esteem All Relationships written on Jul 27, 2020. My opinion on being a number one person is the same answer. Be strong. Be useful. Self-esteem is high. Be smart and be wise can be included.

Top Ten Plus Six Equals Top Sixteen Moments Never On A Top Ten Before

These sixteen moments were small life values. These sixteen moments were small memories. These sixteen moments are examples of the little things in life. I share two examples. The first example is purchasing a Mickey Mouse baseball cap in Spring Semester 1996 while I attended San Jose State University. The pics are below.

The second example is reading Coraline by Neil Gaiman in 2009. I watched the movie on Mar 14, 2009. Why do I remember the exact date? The reasons are there was a cosplay gathering at a local Japanese garden, a friend organized a 3.14 pie day dinner gathering, and the three of us watched the last evening showing. I gave the book for a birthday gift to a friend out of the Bay Area.

My long-term memory is above average. My confidence is high these moments never appeared before. I provide the moment date if I remember. Here are the top ten plus six equals top sixteen moments never on a top ten before:

16. Country Time Lemonade (early 1980s). The first time I drank Country Time Lemonade I was at a zoo. I don't remember if it was a field trip for preschool or kindergarten. My mom was a chaperone. Maybe, it was a gathering with other friends. Or maybe it was a social gathering with other families.

I remember getting lost. I might have found another parent who found my mom. I also remember opening a gate separating two sections of the zoo.

15. Blue Angels Air Show (Aug 1992). My former neighbors the late The Shermans took my family to an air show to watch airplanes and the Blue Angels performed at the Moffett Field airfield and airport located in Mountain View, CA.

14. Pier 39 Arcade Video Games (1987). I used video game tokens from a mom and pop arcade Galaktican. Galaktican is number seven explaining the better deal on tokens. The Pier 39 arcade was the standard four tokens for $1 and 20 tokens for $5. The Aquarium Of The Bay replaces the arcade.

13. Mopped The Floors (Apr 2013). I cleaned the household floors using a mop for the first time. My parents never cleaned the floors using a mop. I don't know why.

12. Drive-in Movies (1986). My family and one of my cousin's family watched Top Gun and The Karate Kid II movies at a drive-in movie theater.

11. Gilroy Outlet Mall (Dec 1994). I finished a terrible Fall Semester. The shopping day was relaxing.

10. Attended Two Jazz Festivals (Aug-Sep 2009). I became interested in jazz music in Nov 2008. I attended the San Jose Jazz Festival in Aug 2009 and the Monterey Jazz Festival in Sep 2009. I was lucky the late Allen Toussaint appeared as the headliner for the San Jose Jazz Festival.

9. Touched Snow (Nov 1986). I experienced snow for the first time in South Lake Tahoe. The second time was Nov 1987. The last time was Nov 2008 in the state of Washington.

8. Mystery Mansion Board Game (Unknown Dates). My brother, cousin, and I played Mystery Mansion when my cousin stayed over during the summers. We followed most of the rules. Some games were finished the next morning.

7. Galaktican Arcade (1986-1991, 1996). My brother and I were addicted to playing video games in the arcade. Those were the times when parents allowed their children to wonder unsupervised. Players received six tokens for $1 and 36 tokens for $5. Galaktican reduced the $5 bonus because business was too good. Unfortunately, Galaktican went out of business due to the video game consoles. I remember the final years players receive bonus tokens when they exchanged $10.

My final visit was Fall 1996. I rollerbladed to and from my house. I played Area 51 with another player who memorized all the enemies. We unlocked a bonus scene in the mountain cave for the first time.

6. Quell App Games (2012, 2014). I played three of the four Quell games from Fallen Tree Games. I finished Quell in Apr 2012, Quell: Reflect in Oct 2012, and Quell: Memento in Jul 2014 all at 100% unlocked and 100% perfect. I needed help once in Quell, once in Reflect, and none in Memento.

5. Nintendo GameCube (Jul 2004). I purchased the console, four game controllers, backpack, two memory cards, and five video games all used for $217.00 on eBay. The video games included Mario Kart and Super Smash Brothers.

4. Professor Blackerby (Jan-May 1995, Aug-Dec 1997). My favorite economics instructor was Professor Blackerby. He taught my Microeconomics and my Microeconomic Analysis classes. Timing was good because Blackerby taught Microeconomic Analysis on my final semester at San Jose State University.

3. Board Game Night (Various Dates). My family and I played Pictionary on Sat nights. It was the only board game we played together.

2. Japantown San Francisco (Aug 1998). I visited Japantown for the first time in decades. It was the first time I visited as an anime fan. A friend suggested we drive to San Francisco to escape a hot Sunday in San Jose.

1. Movie Night (Mar or Apr 1997). My brother and I watched movies on Laserdiscs and ate take-out Chinese food from a mom and pop Chinese restaurant on a Sat night. I rented the Laserdiscs for free because I worked at Blockbuster Video. I told my brother to screen calls in case Blockbuster called for help. My store had been short staffed on Sat nights. My brother stayed home for the semester because of an internship. One of the movies was Escape From L.A. starring Kurt Russell.

I remind myself to keep fun in check. The blog is Keep Fun In Check written on Feb 26, 2006. Take a deep breath. Be mature. Fun is not fun when there is any injury including physical and emotional. There's a good way to have fun. There's a bad way to have fun.

Point Blank Movie 5,464 Days Later

I can't explain why I watched the movie decades later. I watched Point Blank (1967) starring Lee Marvin tonight. The movie is part of a three DVD box set I purchased at the Chronicles Of Crime store in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada on Nov 18, 2008. The other two DVDs are The Departed (2006) and Bullitt.

The Departed (2006) starred Leonardo DiCaprio, Matt Damon, Jack Nicholson, and Mark Wahlberg. The movie won four Oscars including Best Picture at the 79th Academy Awards on Feb 25, 2007. Bullitt stared Steve McQueen. The movie included one of the best car chase scenes in movie history. The two cars were Bullitt's 1968 Ford Mustang 390 GT and the bad guys' 1968 Dodger Charger 400 Magnum in San Francisco, CA.

Update On A Past Blog

The Point Blank movie reminded me of another decades old purchase. I wrote The Big Book Of Beatrix Potter 5,902 Days Later on Nov 16, 2021. I purchased the book on Sep 2, 2005 at Half Price Books in Washington state. I finished the book on Oct 30, 2021.

Top Ten Plus Ten Equals Top Twenty All-Time Favorite Movies

There are 32 movies in my all-time favorite list from my About Me at my personal webpage Innovate Infinitely. I reduced the list to 20. It's time to rank my all-time favorites because I wrote The Shawshank Redemption is my new number one movie on the Update On A Past Blog on Apr 12, 2022 I've Been Doing Everything Correct Mostly replacing Good Will Hunting.

Here are my top ten plus ten equals top twenty all-time favorite movies.

20. Wall Street. A favorite for investors and salespeople. Michael Douglas won Best Actor for portraying Gordon Gekko. "The most valuable commodity I know of is information," said Gekko.

19. Office Space. The cult classic is a must watch for all white collar workers. Aged well.

18. Clerks. The cult classic is a must watch for all retail workers. Aged well.

Side story: I worked at Blockbuster Video in college. The store manager kept Clerks in the new releases section years after the movie was released on VHS.

17. Hot Fuzz. A comedy, action, mystery, and plot twist combined. I laughed for a long time during the beginning.

16. UP! An underrated Disney and Pixar movie. The people who say UP! is an all-time favorite other people gives them shocked looks. The movie needs more love.

15. Parasite (2019). The rock is just a rock at the end of any day. The first foreign language movie to win Best Picture at the 2020 Oscars.

14. A Few Good Men. I watched the movie for the first time in May 2017. Beforehand, I watched the famous Jack Nicholson "You can't handle the truth" scene every time I see A Few Good Men. I understand the quote. Tom Cruise is a good actor.

13. Stand By Me. Four kids with too much time in their hands took a weekend trip to find a dead body. I realized Stand By Me was my first coming of age movie as an adult. I wished I had their life wisdom when I was a child because they were wiser than my childhood.

12. Aliens. My personal four star science fiction movie. A 100 out of 100.

11. Toy Story. The only movie I watched in the theater nobody stopped laughing. A movie experience is positively strengthen when audience members react with everyone else.

10. Black Hawk Down. The movie producers did a good job adapting the book. I read the book. If the producers followed the book, then the movie was too complicated. Too much flow interruption. Too much politics. Too many characters to remember.

9. Titanic. The only movie I watched three times in movie theaters. I watched the movie twice in 1997. The third time was IMAX 3D on Apr 2012.

8. E.T. The Extra Terrestrial. A family classic for all ages. Watch the original version.

7. Casablanca. Schedule a night with your significant other to watch the romantic drama with the most quoted movie lines in history. I'm sad to say I watched the movie once.

6. Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope. The movie should have won Best Picture instead of Annie Hall.

5. Saving Private Ryan. My personal all-time favorite war movie. The movie should have won Best Picture instead of Shakespeare In Love.

4. The Dark Knight. The movie was all Heath Ledger. A 100 out of 100. If I name my favorite evil character, Heath Ledger's Joker comes to my mind first.

3. The Godfather. I include The Godfather and The Godfather: Part II. Organized crime, drugs, power, greed, revenge, and the past. The Godfather Part II takes the upper hand because we see Vito Corleone in his early years.

2. Good Will Hunting. I watched the movie for the first time in Feb 2014. I believe if I watched the movie between 1997-2000, I could have experienced my grow up moment then instead of Sat Oct 4, 2008. "It's not your fault," said Sean Maguire.

The 12 remaining movies for honorable mention: 12 Angry Men, A League Of Their Own, All The President's Men, Ben Hur, Breaking Away, Fast Times At Ridgemont High, La La Land, Little Miss Sunshine, Mary Poppins, The Lion King, The Princess Bride, and The Sound Of Music.

1. The Shawshank Redemption. A friend in college watched The Shawshank Redemption in the theater. He told me the movie was boring. I watched the movie 9,108 days later from the date of release Oct 14, 1994 on Sep 21, 2019. No spoilers. There is a reason the movie is number one in iMDB's Top Rated 250 Movies.

Raymond Mar 3.0

There are alternate titles for today's blog: Another New Raymond Mar and This Is Raymond Mar III Now. I'm better today. There's no going down. Raymond Mar 2.0 began on Sat Oct 4, 2008 when I realized I must grow up. The best years of my life started in Sep 2019. Ironically, my life is George Costanza from Seinfeld. I'm unemployed and I live with my parents. The best years continue. There is no top ten. Today is not the day I grew up for the third time. I'm contradicting myself. There is no Growing Up 3.0 or Growing Up Part 3. The threes must wait. Here are the better me and the new me in no particular order:

1. Intelligence. Intelligence or genius. My reading speed is faster. I learn new job skills. I refresh existing job skills. I seek new life skills such as tying knots, navigating with a compass, memorizing jokes, and cooking new meals. I'm becoming useful. I'm not an old fuck in my senior years. The end of the day I'm one step closer to become a self-trained genius.

2. Motivation. I practice. I drill. I repeat. I learn by repetition. I will is more important than I know. Desire is more important than intelligence.

3. Physical Health. I minimize eating processed foods. Dairy is non-existent. I disagree with the common health knowledge drink eight glasses of water a day. I drink water when I'm thirsty. My physical workouts have been improving. I maintain my 155 pound weight since Apr 2022. My max weight was 188 pounds before. Eight hours of sleep is mandatory. Lower priorities can wait tomorrow. I'm the healthiest I've ever been.

4. Excel. A special recognition to Excel. The Excel skills were incomplete at my previous jobs. Number one Intelligence and number two Motivation above are the reasons I'm better at Excel.

5. Financial Education. Thank you WallStreetBets!

6. Books. A special recognition to books which helped me become stronger. The books are The 7 Habits Of Highly Effective People by Stephen Covey, Outliers by Malcolm Gladwell, Steve Jobs by Walter Isaacson, Rich Dad, Poor Dad by Robert Kiyosaki, To Kill A Mockingbird by Harper Lee, A Brief History Of Time by Stephen Hawking, and Harry Potter by J.K. Rowling.

7. Retired. I retired from anime and video games. However, I'm playing classic video games an average of one weeknight every three or four weeks due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The noteworthy video games I completed are Final Fantasy VI-VIII. I replay Bloons Tower Defense (BTD5) for the second time on Steam.

8. Sex. Thank you Sex With Emily podcast. Good Vibrations is a good adult sex store. Sexual Health Magazine is a free quarterly magazine. My big penis ladies tell me is more than a complement. Wearing large size condoms feel great.

9. Mahjong. I'm an intermediate skilled Mahjong player. I play Hong Kong and Japanese Riichi. It's unfortunate I have too much bad luck.

10. Handyman. I learn patience. I learn practice. I learn take it easy. Take one task at a time. The elbow is the key to hammer a nail properly.

11. Technology. Timing favored me when I purchased a new laptop and built a new desktop PC months before the COVID-19 pandemic in Mar 2020. I learned Windows 10. I expanded my Linux knowledge. I include job skills such as Python, Oracle, and Power BI.

12. The Shawshank Redemption. My spirit is free. My soul is relaxed. Tensions and conflicts are released. Who cares what other people think as long as I'm truthful sincerely. I'm honest for real. The Shawshank Redemption is my all-time favorite movie. The movie is number one in iMDB's Top Rated 250 Movies.

*A Steady Paycheck. Winston Zeddmore said, "Ah, if there's a steady paycheck in it, I'll believe anything you say" when he answered Janine Melnitz's interview question, "Do you believe in UFOs, astral projections, mental telepathy, ESP, clairvoyance, spirit photography, telekinetic movement, full trance mediums, the Loch Ness monster and the theory of Atlantis?" to become a ghostbuster in the movie Ghostbusters. The scene summarizes why we work at jobs: a steady paycheck. Everything else is secondary during an interview. . . .

*. . . Moreover, The Job Interview Process Is Broken. It's easy for the interviewee to fake himself or herself being the best candidate. The interview system applies to many job openings. Easy to lie. Easy to be somebody else. In my opinion, the interviewee takes his or her chance to be himself or herself to be hired. The conditions must be the interviewee is strong, sincere, professional, honest, and knowledgeable.

Search YouTube how to ace a job interview. Information overload. Multiple strategies. Multiple opinions.

*A Worst Feeling. You step on a wet spot wearing socks. You don't have another sock or you don't have access to an extra sock to replace the wet sock. You need to wear shoes soon.

*Defeat Chaos. Work defeats chaos. Work is the solution to solve chaos. The rewards are afterwards.

*Take Wedding Vows Seriously. The YouTube video Bride jokingly says "NO" and the wedding is cancelled is a cautionary tale for couples to be married. Be mature. No joking around. The Reddit post Bride jokingly says 'no' before saying 'yes' and marriage is cancelled included an English translation. Here it is below verbatim.

*The Scorpion And The Frog. The Scorpion and the Frog is an animal fable teaching bad people can't resist hurting others even when it's not in their own interest. The fable originated in Russia in the early 20th century.

A scorpion wants to cross a river. The scorpion can't swim. It asks a frog to carry it across the river. The frog hesitates because the frog is afraid the scorpion might sting. The scorpion promises not to sting because if the scorpion kills the frog in the middle of the river, then they drown. The frog considers the reasoning sensible. The frog agrees to transport the scorpion. The scorpion stings the frog midway which dooms both of them. The dying frog asks the scorpion why it stung despite knowing the consequence. The scorpion says, "I am sorry, but I couldn't resist the urge. It's in my nature."

What popular saying is actually bullshit?

Sample 1: I tell my 7yr old son "if you tell me the truth the punishment isn't as bad" when he follows through he still gets punished, but I explain what would have happened if he lied. Tell the truth? 10 min time out in the corner. Lie? Grounded for the entire night.
Sample 2: My Fire Department’s policy was: "Tell us the truth and we'll do everything in our power to save your job. Lie to us and we'll do the exact opposite."
Sample 3: I tell new hires to tell the truth so we can learn from it. I won't lie, there certain lines that no matter of up frontness can protect you from (and at that point I'll probably know anyway!). But if we can't at least learn from your fuckup then we're all worse off for it. My philosophy is modeled off of the FAA and NASA program private pilots to self report their fuckups.
Sample 4a: People would tell me that potential employers decide if a person is the right fit for the job within the first five seconds of the interview. For years I thought it was BS until I was on the other side of the table. A candidate who walks into the room wearing a suit and carries themselves in a confident demeanor is going to make me much more comfortable than someone with a perpetual slouch wearing a polo and jeans, even if the latter is 10x more qualified. I wish we as humans had more control over that, but it’s just instinctual.
Sample 4b: Edit: For the people calling me shallow and classist, I think I need to be more clear. Someone who doesn't look or act as nice may be more qualified, but if anything in their responses gives any kind of indication that they're going to have a negative impact on the work environment, that's a deal breaker. Someone could be as smart as a whip but could be lazy or struggle to listen to authority. On the flip side though, someone could be a perfect fit but doesn't sell themselves well. We don’t know this person so we have to make assumptions based on their responses to our questions and what skills they claim to possess. Skills are important yes but presentation is what gets your foot in the door. The same goes for the better dressed person. They could say something completely off the wall that can turn the tide.
