Less Play And More Maturity

The education systems are correct when it comes to free time. There are playgrounds at elementary schools kindergarten to fifth grade. The children play before school starts, recess, and lunch hour. There are no playgrounds at junior high schools and high schools. The students socialize around the halls or complete homework assignments before school starts, break, and lunch hour. Some students play school athletics after school which is their physical activity; although, I played touch football and basketball in the mornings and lunch hours in my junior high years. I don't know if today's junior high students play any athletics during their mornings and lunch hours. An exception is students arrive at school minutes before classes start.

Students who start junior high school and students who start high school for the first time should immediately experience a maturity moment. Less play. Less goofing off. It's another step to become an adult. It's a moment to take life more seriously. There is more homework. There are more exams. There are more people to meet. There are more social activities. There are more mistakes. There are more lessons. Schoolwork and gatherings replace watching Sesame Street television. Reading books with pictures are stopped. Grown up books are read using their brains for pictures. The children toys, children music, and children games begin to collect dust. The play toys time is learning Algebra. Music is anything else such as rock, classical, and hip-hop. Chutes And Ladders and Candy Landy board games are changed to Settlers Of Catan and poker. The children are growing up.

Richard Nixon And Watergate Previews Donald Trump And The 2020 Election

Former President Richard Nixon conspired to cover up a break-in of the Democratic National Committee headquarters at the Watergate Office Building in Washington, D.C. on Jun 17, 1972. The burglars intended to install wiretaps. 48 of the 69 people indicted were convicted. Nixon's Watergate scandal was a Mickey Mouse juvenile crime compared to former President Donald Trump's 2020 Election interference.

Here are five YouTube videos on Watergate. These videos may be considered previews, foreshadowing, forecasting, and predicting Trump's future being indicted four times as of Aug 14, 2023.

A Daily Dose Of Novocain

Today's Information Age we get any information on the internet in seconds. Too much information is available in seconds. Easy access. News feeds are 24/7. Information feeds are 24/7. Social media feeds are 24/7. 98% of all feeds are garbage. Novocain is administered. Useless facts. Useless information. Nothing learned. Nothing improved. Moreover, dissatisfaction increases there is a desire for more information hoping to quell the dissatisfaction. Brain cells are destroyed. My IQ drops. The causality is too much Novocain. The Novocain habit I accidentally miss reading important news, information, and knowledge.

Reading is tiring. Additional mental energy is required to ignore the useless. Additional mental energy is required to stop reading. On the other hand, there are some people with more time on their hands they enjoy the useless. More power to them.

Update On A Past Blog

People who purchased shares from the blog Bet On The Real Raymond Mar Coming Soon written on Oct 4, 2014 should be happy. The stock price went up. Long term investing works. Buy and hold work.

I'm the best choice for many circumstances. I have been the best choice to get the job done. Unfortunately, there were too many barriers. Bad luck. Bad timing. I was told lies. People prevented me from being successful. Misinformation. Bad lessons. All are forgiven. I needed more time. I needed four years and 11 months to be specific. The naive, uncontrollable, and immature person is retired. Be patient.

Shelter In-Place COVID-19 Blog April 2023

California issued shelter in-place orders on Tue Mar 17, 2020. I have been logging the highlights and lowlights. The XBB.1.16 or Arcturus is the latest variant from the media headlines. Apr started fast which slowed down towards the end.

Sat Apr 1. Watched the Florida Atlantic and San Diego State Final Four basketball game.

Mon Apr 3. Santa Clara County announced the county follows CA state guidelines on COVID-19. Masks are no longer required in health care facilities, jails, homeless shelters, and long-term care homes. Health care workers no longer need to be vaccinated. People who tested positive for COVID-19 isolate for five days. Any facility can set their own masking requirements. John Muir Health mandates masks for vulnerable patients. Kaiser Permanente no mask mandates for patients and visitors.

Santa Clara County data reported 33% of eligible residents received the updated bivalent COVID-19 booster. 12% didn't complete the initial COVID-19 vaccine series. The county wastewater samples were medium level.

25% of eligible residents in the State Of CA received the bivalent booster.

Watched most of the NCAA Men's Basketball Championship game University Of Connecticut and San Diego State.

Tue Apr 4. Former President Donald Trump arrested for fraud.

The Food And Drug Administration (FDA) gave emergency authorization use to Gohibic which is an injection made by Infla Rx NV. The treatment is given to patients hospitalized with COVID-19. Gohibic lowers the risk of death between the 28th day and the 60th day.

Fri Apr 7. Ran errands at Safeway and filled up my car with gas.

Sun Apr 9. A Chinese scientist claimed the COVID-19 virus originated from humans. The genetic sequences of viral samples taken from the Huanan Seafood Market in Wuhan, China were identical to infected patients. There was insufficient evidence to prove racoon dogs originated the COVID-19 virus. The World Health Organization (WHO) said the claim lacked data from China about the beginnings of the virus.

Mon Apr 10. President Joe Biden signed the bill to end the national emergency. The signed bill didn't affect the public health emergency ending on May 11. The COVID-19 national emergency was declared on Mar 13, 2020 retroactive to Mar 1, 2020. Some emergency measures ended. Other emergency measures are being phased out. The administration expedited preparations for normal operations when Congress worked to end the emergency early.

Wed Apr 12. The US government is spending $5 billion for new COVID-19 vaccines and treatments project named "Project Next Gen." The project accelerates and streamlines rapid development of the next generation of vaccines and treatments. The Department Of Health And Human Services coordinates the project with the private sector.

Thur Apr 13. The Calvary Chapel San Jose is ordered to pay $1.2 million in fines accumulated during the global pandemic. The church violated the Santa Clara County public health order. The battle between the church and the county lasted years. Multiple judges issued multiple rulings.

Fri Apr 14. A new COVID-19 variant XBB.1.16 or Arcturus was identified in India. Cases surged. Arcturus is confirmed in 20 countries including the US. The transmissibility rate is high. A new symptom appears causing conjunctivitis or red eye or pink eye. The Center For Disease Control (CDC) reported Arcturus is responsible for 7.2% of US COVID-19 cases. It was 3.9% last week. XBB.1.5 or Kraken is the most common strain.

Tue Apr 18. The FDA authorized the Pfizer and Moderna bivalent vaccines for people age 65 and older and immunocompromised people to receive an additional dose at least four months after their first dose. Immunocompromised people can receive an additional dose at least two months after their first dose. Unvaccinated people may receive a single dose of the bivalent vaccine instead of the multiple doses of the original single-strain vaccine.

Unvaccinated children between the ages of 6 months and 5 years may receive a two dose Moderna bivalent vaccine. Unvaccinated children between the ages of 6 months and 4 years may receive a three dose Pfizer bivalent vaccine.

The CDC said 16.7% of eligible Americans received the bivalent. The CDC also said the bivalent vaccine effectiveness protecting Americans has weaken.

Wed Apr 19. The CDC authorized the additional bivalent vaccines for people age 65 and older and immunocompromised people.

Fri Apr 21. Shopped at Safeway first thing in the morning.

Kaiser Permanente-Santa Rosa reinstated mask mandates due to a COVID-19 outbreak. Dozens of staff and patients tested positive for COVID-19.

Los Angeles County identified cases with the XBB.1.16 or Arcturus variant.

The CDC announced 1,160 Americans died in the last seven days which was the lowest number since Mar 2020. The number of positive cases declined under 100,000; however, the number was an underestimation because of at-home testing. Arcturus represented 10% of positive cases.

Sun Apr 23. Watched the last 42 seconds of the Golden State Warriors at Sacramento Kings Game 5 of the first round NBA playoffs.

Mon Apr 24. Shopped at Target and the Nike Factory Outlet store.

Thur Apr 27. First spare the air day in 2023.

Fri Apr 28. The CDC said international travelers visiting the US must still be vaccinated. The travelers must be fully vaccinated two weeks after getting the Pfizer or Moderna mRNA bivalent vaccine after Aug 16, 2022. Previously, foreign travelers were fully vaccinated two weeks after receiving the second dosage for vaccines requiring two shots or the first dosage for vaccines requiring one shot.

The CDC stopped its color coded COVID-19 Community Levels tracker soon. The exact date was unannounced. The CDC tracks COVID-19 from hospitalizations in some areas thereafter. Hospitalization rates are a lagging indicator because a person who tested positive takes 7 to 10 days to be hospitalized. Wastewater testing continues in communities and air travelers.

Today Is Not Your Parent's Or Grandparent's Days

Blogger's note: Today's blog is edited minimally for grammar.

Sometimes the old ways are still the best ways. Nothing beats the classics. They don't make them like they did in the past. These are common wisdom comparing life today and life yesterday. Sometimes the common wisdom is true. Sometimes the common wisdom is false. Today is the present. Today is not your parent's or grandparent's days.

The stock market is changed. There are new techniques to invest in companies. Artificial intelligence analyzes the data. Algorithms make the choice to buy or to sell. Forget fundamentals. Forget the statistics. Forget the financial statements. Follow the money. WallStreetBets opened eyes on new investing. Time will tell decentralized finance is the best global economy. I'm not a licensed financial advisor. I'm not giving financial advice.

I'm not a professional handyman. I see new tools at hardware stores. I see improved parts for plumbers and for electricians. Automobiles are getting smarter with computers operating engines for fuel efficiently.

Computer programming changed. Anyone can learn Python. More jobs require more skills. More skills require more time. More time requires less time outside the workplace. Costs go up for more training. There are engineers who know both hardware and software. More full-time employees require technical skills. Fewer full-time employees work 40 hours a week.

Professional sports changed. Baseball is adapting new rules to speed up the games. Football is adapting new rules to protect players from injuries. Basketball is being revolutionized with three-point shooting since 2015. There are more overtime games in hockey playoffs. All professional sports rely more on computers analyzing players.

Forget telephones. People carry cell phones everywhere 24/7. People may need to carry a barf bag when listening to today's music. The movie writers seem to be out of new ideas. We're seeing more remakes, additional sequels, and unheard prequels. There are too many cable channels in television. Households were happy with clear signals decades ago.

There are more pandemics. There are more problems in the economy--maybe more recessions. There are more wildfires because of climate change. I'm looking forward for summer rains in the Northern Hemisphere. There are fewer uses for military soldiers. There are greater uses for hackers. The keyboard is stronger than the gun.

More people are going to be sick. Families with newborns are out of the hospital at the end of the day. My Laparoscopic Cholecystectomy which removed my gallbladder in Apr 2017 could have been an outpatient appointment. I was hospitalized with Acute Gallstone Pancreatitis. A Laparoscopic Cholecystectomy required inpatient care decades ago.

Board gamers recognize The Settlers of Catan, Dominion, Ticket To Ride, Pandemic, and Carcassonne as the modern classic board games. Few board gamers talk about Monopoly, Life, Clue, and Sorry.

Fortunately, there are TV stations broadcasting classic movies, radio stations playing classic rock, book stores selling classic literature, the website Internet Archive, and YouTube watching videos of our parent's and grandparent's days.

The parent's or grandparent's days may be irrelevant today. The parent's or grandparent's days are remembered forever.

Two favorite quotes from the interview. The first is the following, "When [women are] not being treated right, they'll often still stick around and keep seeing each other, hoping [men] will change like they were at the beginning of their relationship. As women, we're taught to be polite and service the man. My mom programmed me to be like that and I had to work to break that programming. People are afraid to do that! If their needs are not met, get out!"

The second is the following, "For women, she may not find him cute initially and then goes on the date and comes back with 'I can fix that! And I really liked him as a person.' A man will never want to get 'fixed' because men and women are different animals. I know women will grow into a relationship, but a man will know in a second."

Too Much Distractions

Almost everyone expresses their frustrations there is too much to do. There is too much work. I'm overwhelmed. The frustrations apply to students, parents, employed, and some unemployed. Some unemployed--the responsible unemployed--have lives, too. The responsible unemployed search for jobs, learn new skills, raise children if any, and prepare for the next opportunity. I digress.

Today's Information Age we can lose our focus easier than yesterday. The computers, laptops, tablets, televisions, and smart phones run multiple programs. Videos, audio, games, social media, memes, jokes, 24/7 news, pictures, text, and email are accessed with a finger tap or mouse click. Distractions are instant opening a program or visiting a website. One can say today's Information Age is a double frustration consisting of too much work and too much distractions. Add the last sentence to the number of reasons why more time is required to get responsibilities completed.

The Irony Of Distractions

I speak from personal experience. Distractions are stress busters. Distractions are stress relief. Distractions rest my brain. Distractions temporary alleviate boredom. I watch a quick YouTube video from a favorite scene in a movie. I open Windows Media Classic to hear a song. I watch a scene from my all-time favorite movie The Shawshank Redemption. I play a classic video game for 10 minutes to wake me up when I feel sleepy. I don't feel fatigue job searching, job training, and taking care of the house at the end of the day. Otherwise, the fatigue affects me for multiple days completing fewer responsibilities.

Perhaps, the solution is focus on both work and distractions one at a time. They're a win-win at the end of the day.

The rearranging is when the dealer confuses the player to select the incorrect card. The player selects one of the three cards. If the player correctly identifies the money card, the player wins. Otherwise, the player loses.

Raymond Mar One Liners 5

Muscle & Fitness July/August 2017 issue interviewed Arnold Schwarzenegger titled "Arnold" by Peter McGough. The interview inspired me to write one liners reflecting me. There is no chronological order. I write anything I thought my mind. Here is my fifth Raymond Mar One Liners. The first was written on Jun 17, 2018. The second was written on Jun 1, 2019. The third was written on Apr 16, 2020. The fourth was written on Feb 13, 2021.

The second time in the second company I worked after I graduated from San Jose State University moved to a new building.

I walked on the Golden Gate Bridge end-to-end for the first time in my life in 2011.

The first time in the first company I worked after I graduated from San Jose State University moved to a new building.

My family and I moved to a new house two-stories tall.

Spring Semester 1997 felt like the longest semester throughout my time at San Jose State University.

Spring Semester 1994 and Fall Semester 1994 were the most boring semesters throughout my time at San Jose State University.

A big positive being a child in the 1980s was listening to the King Of Pop Michael Jackson.

I hated taking English as the last period in my high school sophomore year.

I took a day class on using technical analysis to research stocks. I'm happy to say I forgot everything.

I read Harry Potter by J.K. Rowling three times.

I remember one summer day the temperature was 103 degrees. The next day 103 was the front page headline in the local newspaper.

My fourth grade elementary school I don't recall a mascot. I went to the school website. The mascot is a blue colored panther.

My sixth grade middle school mascot was the pirate. The school district changed from a pirate to a rhino because pirate was politically incorrect being violent. The school district converted the middle school to a combination elementary school and middle school K-8. The mascot is the husky.

My home mini-gym has been a success. I have maintained my weight between 155-160 pounds.

The hall of fame baseball player Cal Ripken, Jr. is my first rookie card I purchased when I started collecting baseball cards.

I discourage people taking computer programming crash courses and boot camps. Nobody becomes a profession programmer in months.

I watched President Bill Clinton's first inauguration. It was the only presidential inauguration I watched from start to finish.

I'm allergic to retail water filters. I was sick for one month. I stopped drinking the retail water filters. I recovered from my sickness immediately.

It's difficult for a new TV show to replace my all-time favorite TV show Breaking Bad. Nobody should sell their Breaking Bad DVDs.

Animal telephone was an activity my brother and I played when we were children. One of my animals pretended to telephone one of my brother's animals or vice versa for an adventure.

Shelter In-Place COVID-19 Blog January 2022

California issued shelter in-place orders on Tue Mar 17, 2020. I have been logging the highlights and lowlights. 2022 started with the continued omicron surge. The surge eased at the end of the month. Headlines stated there is talk about the pandemic ending. Some experts agree normal life is coming soon. Some experts disagree people must continue to be vigilant. The Jan month was a welcome slow pace.

Sun Jan 2. The Holy Cross Health hospital in Fort Lauderdale, FL temporarily closed its Labor And Delivery Unit due to COVID-19 cases increasing and staff shortage.

The average cases in the US is 400,000 a day. Hospitalizations increased.

Mon Jan 3. Ran quick errands at the post office and Safeway. One customer wanted to ship a package Express Mail even though the package is mailed in the same city. The postal worker suggested Priority Mail. I purchased bread at Safeway.

The Food And Drug Administration (FDA) approved the Pfizer booster shot for children ages 12-15. The booster shot is administered as early as five months after their last shot.

Children hospitalizations increased. Most of the children were unvaccinated.

I remind myself I need to stretch my body when I get up from bed.
