I Thought About The Late Night Team Fortress 2 Games Last Night

A random thought appeared in my head before I went to bed last night. I thought about the video game Team Fortress 2 (TF2). The game could be purchased in The Orange Box released in 2007 from Valve. The Orange Box contained five video games TF2, Half-Life 2, Half-Life 2: Episode 1, Half-Life 2: Episode 2, and Portal. Many video gamers considered The Orange Box the best deal in video game history because gamers purchased five video games for the price of one.

TF2 was the first video game I played online against other players. The game was popular for years. Gamers continue playing the free-to-play version today. I played TF2 three nights a week during the initial months. I played on Monday nights which I called it Monday Night TF2 or MNTF2 referencing the NFL's Monday Night Football. I also played on Friday nights and Saturday nights. There were weeks I played all night on a work night. I played too many hours. My work performance was unproductive the next day.

My deeper thought is I didn't get sick when I played all night on a work night. I can't explain it. Maybe my younger body tolerated the minimal hours of sleep when the sun rose. My physical workouts were inconsistent since I spent more leisure time on the computer. I don't remember eating too much processed foods. I was lucky. If I play a video game all night on a work night, then I'm likely going to experience sickness. I'm glad I don't play video games regularly anymore. There are more important priorities.

Amazon Items For Free Shipping List No More

The pic above is a list of items I add to my Amazon shopping cart to get free shipping. The list was revised multiple times. I used the list years ago when I needed an item or items for a cheaper price. Most of the time the item or items were too cheap I needed one more item to get free shipping; in particular, DVDs and board game accessories were easy $5 or below items. Amazon used to sell auto parts significantly cheaper than my local auto parts store. I started the list to save time and to stop additional shopping. I wanted to buy the item or items, pay, and logout.

Times have changed. Amazon is my last retail store to buy goods. My city is known for package thieves. I'm comfortable paying more at brick and mortar stores for peace of mind. I use the list as a gift guide. I also use the list as a wish list. Many of the items are for hiking, backpacking, and emergency situations. I don't want to throw the list in the garbage; otherwise, I wasted my time.

SOMT: The 2022 Business Analyst Is Not The 2007 Business Analyst

Blogger's Note: SOMT stands for Sign Of My Times, an occasional blog sharing my thoughts how time changes life from when I was young to today.

I worked at Cisco as a contractor Business Analyst in 2007. The one job requirement was Crystal Reports. All other job requirements were secondary such as Excel, Word, and Outlook. Times were easier decades ago.

Times have changed. Job requirements have changed. Job expectations have changed. Some business analyst job titles are renamed business analytics. Business Analytics or the like is a fancy way of saying a business analyst with advanced technical skills. I received an email for a fulltime BI Analytics or Business Intelligence Analyst position. The job description is the pic above. Some of today's business analysts require more than Excel, reporting, and analyzing. They require database skills such as SQL and Oracle. They require programming skills such as Python and Java. They require more than basic statistics mean, median, mode, and rank. They require reporting and dashboards software skills such as Tableau and Power BI. Forget Crystal Reports. I see a few positions requiring Linux, HTML, JavaScript, and knowing a text editor. I see a few positions going for the home run requiring supply chain, accounting, and/or finance. On the other hand, I see fewer positions requiring Salesforce. The key skills requirement importance 1-5 might as well be all 5's. The second page is the disclaimer and contact information.

Another change is contractor companies or recruiter companies search for full time employees. Be cautious. Some contractor companies or recruiter companies find job postings online instead of being contracted directly by companies to find a fulltime employee; in other words, unsolicited full-time job candidates. They hope the job candidate is hired for which the company receives compensation. Company career web pages post no third-party recruiters on their job openings.

Dear Abby Advice On Blind Love, Guilt Trip, And Truce On Wedding Day

Here are three recent Dear Abby advice which caught my attention. Some people experience any of three been there and done that.

Apr 21, 2022

Grandson Won't Hear Truth About Girlfriend

DEAR ABBY: My grandson is in a relationship with a girl who manipulates him and abuses him emotionally. I told my grandson what she is doing, but he doesn't see it. Because of that, neither one of them is speaking to me.

My grandson was a caring, happy person until he met her. Now he's withdrawn. He is working, but she is not. They are struggling to make a life for themselves. When I ask how he's doing, he just says OK and nothing more. Is there anything I can do to make him see what she is doing to him? -- IT'S OBVIOUS IN IOWA

DEAR OBVIOUS: No. You have done everything you can by trying to enlighten your grandson, who, it appears, "love" has blinded. Now it's time for you to accept that nothing will change until he wakes up and smells the coffee.

Travel Plans Complicated by Boyfriend's Guilt Trip

DEAR ABBY: My boyfriend is 60 and has an autoimmune disease. He's dependent on oxygen and suffers a great deal. He can drive, walk and care for himself, although I assist in his care quite a bit.

I was invited to take a trip with my daughter and my sisters to London next month for a week. He doesn't want me to go and won't say why, other than he's frustrated because he can't travel abroad. (He would never want to go on a girls trip to London.) He actually told me, "If you really loved me, you wouldn't go." I responded, "If you really loved me, you would be happy for me to go with my family and enjoy the trip for a week."

I cook and clean for him every day. I am the breadwinner and pay for everything. I treat him like a king. What should I do? -- YEARNING FOR TRAVEL

DEAR YEARNING: You do plenty for your boyfriend. He is trying to guilt you into not going. With the load you have been carrying, you deserve a break. Ensure that a friend or family member of his can keep an eye on him in your absence. Then ignore his comments and go on that trip. Please!

Parent Would Rather Skip Son's Wedding

DEAR ABBY: In seven months, my 43-year-old son will be married for the second time. Because of his fiancee's problem drinking, I am absolutely against the marriage. I hate the idea of going to the wedding. Should I go anyway, and have the most miserable day of my life? I doubt that I would be able to hide my sadness. Or should I decline, tell my son I wouldn't be a good guest to have on his happy day and wish them "all the best"? -- HESITATING IN WASHINGTON

DEAR HESITATING: I will assume that your son is aware of your concerns about his fiancee's drinking. Do not boycott this wedding. If you do, you will create a wedge between you and your daughter-in-law that could last for decades. Plaster on a smile and attend so you can wish them all the best in person. Then cross your fingers that your wish comes true.

Raymond Mar One Liners 5

Muscle & Fitness July/August 2017 issue interviewed Arnold Schwarzenegger titled "Arnold" by Peter McGough. The interview inspired me to write one liners reflecting me. There is no chronological order. I write anything I thought my mind. Here is my fifth Raymond Mar One Liners. The first was written on Jun 17, 2018. The second was written on Jun 1, 2019. The third was written on Apr 16, 2020. The fourth was written on Feb 13, 2021.

The second time in the second company I worked after I graduated from San Jose State University moved to a new building.

I walked on the Golden Gate Bridge end-to-end for the first time in my life in 2011.

The first time in the first company I worked after I graduated from San Jose State University moved to a new building.

My family and I moved to a new house two-stories tall.

Spring Semester 1997 felt like the longest semester throughout my time at San Jose State University.

Spring Semester 1994 and Fall Semester 1994 were the most boring semesters throughout my time at San Jose State University.

A big positive being a child in the 1980s was listening to the King Of Pop Michael Jackson.

I hated taking English as the last period in my high school sophomore year.

I took a day class on using technical analysis to research stocks. I'm happy to say I forgot everything.

I read Harry Potter by J.K. Rowling three times.

I remember one summer day the temperature was 103 degrees. The next day 103 was the front page headline in the local newspaper.

My fourth grade elementary school I don't recall a mascot. I went to the school website. The mascot is a blue colored panther.

My sixth grade middle school mascot was the pirate. The school district changed from a pirate to a rhino because pirate was politically incorrect being violent. The school district converted the middle school to a combination elementary school and middle school K-8. The mascot is the husky.

My home mini-gym has been a success. I have maintained my weight between 155-160 pounds.

The hall of fame baseball player Cal Ripken, Jr. is my first rookie card I purchased when I started collecting baseball cards.

I discourage people taking computer programming crash courses and boot camps. Nobody becomes a profession programmer in months.

I watched President Bill Clinton's first inauguration. It was the only presidential inauguration I watched from start to finish.

I'm allergic to retail water filters. I was sick for one month. I stopped drinking the retail water filters. I recovered from my sickness immediately.

It's difficult for a new TV show to replace my all-time favorite TV show Breaking Bad. Nobody should sell their Breaking Bad DVDs.

Animal telephone was an activity my brother and I played when we were children. One of my animals pretended to telephone one of my brother's animals or vice versa for an adventure.

Three Grown-Up Lessons I Didn't Learn When I Was A Child

I saw them. I experienced them. I didn't comprehend them. No grown-ups told me. Nobody explained them. They happened. I think back to three unanswered life questions and the answers or lessons I learned as an adult.

1. How come the San Francisco 49ers didn't appear in all the Super Bowls in the 1980s?

Short answer: Nobody's perfect. Nobody wins all the time.

Long answer: I was a casual football fan in 1984 when the Los Angeles Raiders defeated the Washington Redskins 38-9 in Super Bowl XVIII. I became a genuine football fan when the San Francisco 49ers went 15-1 in the 1984-1985 season. I watched my first Super Bowl when the 49ers defeated the Miami Dolphins in Super Bowl XIX at Stanford Stadium in Stanford, CA.

The 49ers were the best football team in the 1980s. I never answered the question how come every year another team in the NFC appeared in the Super Bowl? I felt disappointed the 49ers didn't make the Super Bowl in 1986 and 1987. I felt they failed. I felt they were losers. The 49ers were supposed to be perfect. The 49ers were supposed to be the best. The 49ers won two more Super Bowls in the 1987-1988 and 1988-1989 seasons.

The grown-up lesson: Winning a championship is hard in professional sports. Only one team wins. The rest of the teams lose. There are changes at the end of a season such as new coaches, players retired, and moving ownership personnel. These changes affect the teams for the next season. A sports team can't win all the championships all the time.

2. Why do actors and actresses appear in more than one TV show? Or why do many TV shows have different main actors and actresses each season? A similar question is why do actors and actresses appear in different movies playing different characters? There are multiple actors who played James Bond. Why wasn't the late Sean Connery always the James Bond character? Why was the late Roger Moore replaced after A View To A Kill?

Short answer: Actors and actresses don't make one movie and one television show for their entire careers; although, there are expectations such as one-time hit actors and actresses.

Long answer: I answer the question from the perspective of Three's Company which is my first all-time favorite TV show.

I was confused when Three's Company changed one of the main actresses from Suzanne Somers playing Chrissy Snow to Jenilee Harrison playing Cindy Snow to Priscilla Barnes playing Terri Alden. I was also confused when Norman Fell playing Stanley Roper and Audra Lindley playing Helen Roper as the apartment complex owners departed. The Ropers were replaced with Don Knotts playing Ralph Furley as the apartment manager. I always thought television series never change actors and actresses.

Three's Company is another example of television shows past, present, and future there's always changes for better or for worse. Fell and Lindley departed Three's Company to a spinoff titled The Ropers. Actress Ann Wedgeworth playing Lana Shields was a main character in season four only. Somers departed in season five because of a contract dispute. The final season Ritter continued Three's Company as a spinoff titled Three's A Crowd.

The grown-up lesson: Nothing is permanent. People come and go in our lives. Stories change. Everything is never the same all the time. Life finds a way to change something, anything, and anyone.

3. Why do each new school year there are new students?

Short answer: Families move. Families change. School curriculums change.

Long answer: Question three should not have been asked because I changed schools two times from K-5. I attended a private school in kindergarten and first grade. I attended public schools from 2-5 for which my family and I moved after my third grade. The question could have been asked if I attended the same primary school from K-5. Each new year I'm at a new grade I see new students in my grade and in my classroom.

It's like new neighbors. There are homes for sales. Tenants move out of apartment complexes. Families, couples, and individuals move out of their old neighborhood and in a new neighborhood. Some reasons include a new job, care for an elder family member, unemployment, marriage, new child, upgrading to a bigger size residence, downgrading to a small size residence, unfortunate personal circumstances, and residential investments.

The grown-up lesson: Families come and go in the neighborhoods. Their children need to go to school.

The number one, number two, and number three questions one-word grown-up lesson answer is change.

Update On A Past Blog

Add change to the list of lessons I learned later in life. The blog Growing Up Too Late Was Not My Fault written on Nov 14, 2015 partially explained my sheltered life with little new experiences and little life lessons learned outside the classroom. My quiet life was taken for granted no change was necessary for the better.

There Are Fewer Reward Opportunities

I worked hard tutoring math in college, serving customers at a movie rental store chain, and supporting brokers at two commercial real estate companies. I accepted additional responsibilities voluntarily or assigned. The primary reason was to strengthen my resume. Additional pay, promotions, and accolades were secondary. I received accolades at the movie rental store chain and my second commercial real estate company. Additional pay was the annual cost of living increase. No promotions.

I continued working hard after my second commercial real estate company. The degree of working hard decreased in quality and in quantity because I received neither additional pay, promotions, or accolades. There was a point I stopped working hard. I thought rationally. The attitude was screw it. The attitude was job completed--didn't do any more. My contracts were terminated. There was no temporary to permanent conversion. The job agencies failed to find my better employment. My resume was strengthen minimally. One could say my resume was tarnished. Bad luck and bad timing were factors.

There has been a growing attitude being nice, working hard, and accepting more assignments hoping for rewards, promotions, and/or accolades are false. The attitude worked in past workplaces. The attitude is nonexistent in today's workplace. There are exceptions such as professional sports. Fewer workers receive rewards, promotions, and/or accolades. One reason is fewer rewards, promotions, and/or accolades to be awarded. Another reason is management taking advantage of hard-working employees for less pay. A third reason is the fear of somebody taking another person's job. A fourth reason is politics. A fifth reason is the workplace environment system. I digress.

The bottom line is there are too many workers vying for the rewards, promotions, and/or accolades to be a better person professionally and personally. Unfortunately, there are not enough opportunities. Almost all workers reject the working attitude being nice, working hard, and accepting more assignments hoping for rewards, promotions, and/or accolades because the chances of receiving any or all are slim.

Update On A Past Blog

I was a victim of management taking advantage of me. I wrote the blog Take The Advantage, Use The Advantage on Jan 2, 2020. I was the management advantage. The ethics of management taking advantage of their employees is another conversation.

I've Been Doing Everything Correct Mostly

"Rehabilitated? It's just a bullshit word. So you go on and stamp your forms, sonny, and stop wasting my time, because, to tell you the truth, I don't give a shit." --Ellis Boyd Redding, The Shawshank Redemption

The movie The Shawshank Redemption was released on Oct 14, 1994. The movie is currently number 1 on IMDb's Top Rated Movies list at 9.2 out of 10. I watched the movie for the first time 9,108 days later on Sep 21, 2019. I continue watching random scenes and favorite scenes today.

The quote is about telling the truth without caring about what others think. The quote made me think about my life as a child and as a young adult. I've been doing everything correct mostly. I should have faith about my actions, behavior, and thoughts. I should have ignored many of the bad advice and bad teachings given to me. Nobody told me I have been walking the correct paths. I have stronger confidence I'm earning my successes correctly. I tell myself everything has been well. I tell myself I'm correct.

People said I'm wrong doing it my way when I'm actually correct. These people feared me. These people told me bullshit because they created a false image to protect themselves from me. These people didn't want me to succeed.

I'm not perfect. I made mistakes in school. I made mistakes learning new skills. I'm human. I correct the mistakes. My past life paths were full of merit. If I make mistakes, then I make them my way. I take responsibility for my mistakes by correcting them.

Update On A Past Blog

I wrote past blogs detailing I was correct. One blog was written on Jun 9, 2016 titled Top Ten I Was Correct When I Was Young. I'm happy to say all ten are correct today such as be gritty, daydream, and be clean and organize. Another blog was I Did It Right on Nov 14, 2013. I told myself I've been doing it right despite the victories and defeats throughout my life controlled and not controlled. I gave myself Top Ten Advice I Reference In My Life on Feb 26, 2017. One minor correction is number eight My Daily Rules Of Life. Rule number 7 "Have faith. Believe in yourself." is removed because I don't need to believe in myself. What is believe? I have to do it anyways.

The Shawshank Redemption is my new number one movie on Top Ten Movies I Watched Late I wrote on Mar 1, 2014. An updated list is planned.
