Steve Jobs Quotes

Here are some quotes from the late co-founder of Apple.

I began to realize that an intuitive understanding and consciousness was more significant than abstract thinking and intellectual logical analysis . . . intuition is a very powerful thing, more powerful than intellect, in my opinion. That's had a big impact on my work.

I say Microsoft and Google have a lot in common. Microsoft never had the humanities and the liberal arts in their DNA. It was a pure technology company. And they just didn't get it. Even when they saw the map, they couldn't even copy it well. How dumb do you have to be to not see it--once you see it, you know. But Google is the same way. They just don't get it.

If you don't cannibalize yourself, someone else will.

Innovation has nothing to do with how many R&D dollars you have. When Apple came up with the Mac, IBM was spending at least 100 times more on R&D. It's not about money. It's about the people you have, how you're led, and how much you get it.

Life can be much broader once you discover one simple fact, and that is everything around you that you call life was made up by people that were no smarter than you, and you can change it, you can influence it, you can build your own things that other people can use. Um, once you learn that, you'll never be the same again.

Picasso had a saying--'good artists copy, great artists steal'--we have always been shameless . . . stealing great ideas.

Some people say, "Give the customers want they want." But that's not my approach. Our job is to figure out what they're going to want before they do. I think Henry Ford once said, "If I'd asked customers what they wanted, they would have told me, 'A faster horse!'" People don't know what they want until you show it to them. That's why I never rely on market research. Our task is to read things that are not yet on the page."

Sometimes life hits you in the head with a brick. Don't lose faith. I'm convinced that the only thing that kept me going was that I loved what I did. You've got to find what you love. And that is as true for your work as it is for your lovers.

Stay hungry, stay foolish.

The journey is the reward.

When you grow up, you tend to get told that the world is the way it is and your life--and your life is just to live inside your world. Try not to bash into the walls too much, try to have a nice family life, have fun, save a little money. That's a very limited life.

You can't connect the dots looking forward; you can only connect them looking backwards. So you have to trust that the dots will somehow connect in your future. You have to trust in something--your gut, destiny, life, karma, whatever. This approach has never let me down, and it has made all the difference in my life.

Your thoughts construct patterns like scaffolding in your mind. You are really etching chemical patterns. In most cases, people get stuck in those patterns, just like grooves in a record, and they never get out of them. I'll always stay connected with Apple. I hope that throughout my life I'll sort of have the thread of my life and the thread of Apple weave in and out of each other, like a tapestry. There may be a few years when I'm not there, but I'll always come back. . . . If you want to live your life in a creative way, as an artist, you have to not look back too much. You have to be willing to take whatever you've done and whoever you were and throw them away. The more the outside world tries to reinforce an image of you, the harder it is to continue to be an artist, which is why a lot of times, artists have to say, "Bye, I have to go. I'm going crazy and I'm getting out of here." And they go and hibernate somewhere. Maybe later they re-emerge a little differently.

Your time is limited, so don't waste it living someone else's life. Don't be trapped by dogma--which is living with the results of other people's thinking. Don't let the noise of other's opinions drown out your own inner voice. And most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition. They somehow already know what you truly want to become. Everything else is secondary.

Your work is going to fill a large part of your life, and the only way to be truly satisfied is to do what you believe is great work. And the only way to do great work is to love what you do. If you haven't found it yet, keep looking. Don't settle. As with all matters of the heart, you'll know when you find it.

You're born alone, you're going to die alone. And what exactly is it do you have to lose. There's nothing.

The last quote is three paragraphs.

"I sort of look at us as two of the luckiest guys (Steve Jobs and Bill Gates) on the planet cause we found what we loved to do. And we were at the right place at the right time. We gotten to go to work every day with super bright people for 30 years, and do what we love doing. It's hard to be happier than that. Your family and that. What more can you ask for? So, I don't think about legacy that much. I just think about being able to get up every day and go in and hang around these great people and hopefully create something that other people will love as much as we do. And if we can do that, that's great.

"People say you have to have a lot of passion for what you're doing. And it's totally true. And the reason is because it's so hard that if you don't, any rational person would give up. It's really hard. And you have to do it over a sustained period of time. So if you don't love it, if you're not having fun doing it, you don't really love it, you're gonna give up. And that's what happens to most people actually. If you really look at the ones that ended up being successful *in air quotes* in the eyes of society, and the ones that didn't, oftentimes, it's the ones that are successful loved what they did so they can persevere when it got really tough, and the ones that didn't love it quit cause they're sane. Right? Who want to put up with this stuff if you don't love it. So, it's a lot of hard work. And it's a lot of worrying constantly. And if you don't love it, you're going to fail. So you gotta love it. You got to have passion. And I think that's the high order albeit.

"The second thing is you got be a really good talent scout. No matter how smart you are you need a team of great people. And you got to figure out how to size people up fairly quickly, make decisions without knowing people too well, and hire them, and see how you do and refine your intuition and be able to help build an organization that can eventually just build itself cause you need great people around you."

Keep Going In Life

I look at my Facebook friend's list. I identify all my friends who attended my high school. Most of them were smart. They enrolled in honor classes. They enrolled in Advanced Placement classes. They were active after school such as sports, arts, and volunteering.

Fast forward decades later. Most of the smart high school Facebook friends are no longer smart. I'm the better person today. I'm smarter. I'm stronger. Why? They stop learning. They settle down. I have been catching up what I missed. I surpass some of them. I continue to catch up. I continue to exceed any expectations. I surpass more of them in time.

Don't quit. Never stop learning. Never stop innovating. Innovate infinitely.

Update On A Past Blog

aloof: not friendly or forthcoming; distant; disinterested.

I wrote a blog on Mar 9, 2010 titled I'm No Longer Nice. I stopped being nice. Nice guys do finish last. Niceness has limits. Niceness is more finite. I started being good. Good guys do finish first. Goodness has fewer limits. Goodness is less finite.

Moreover, being extra nice doesn't result in extra rewards. It's not aloofness does pay. It's niceness doesn't pay. Being extra nice is unlikely to change people's minds. Almost all of the time people's minds are decided.

Something To Remember Album By Madonna Cover

Something To Remember by Madonna was a CD I listened regularly during my Spring Semester 1997 at San Jose State University. CD music saved the semester. It helped me complete my homework and study for exams. It was the first time listening to music helped me concentrate. I desired quietness for all my school work beforehand.

Something To Remember is a compilation album released by Maverick Records on Nov 3, 1995. The songs were her softer songs. You'll See, One More Chance, and I Want You are three new songs. My favorites songs are Take A Bow, Crazy For You, This Used To Be My Playground, and Rain.

I like the back cover. It's attractive, sexy, and intelligent. The Wikipedia Something To Remember stated the CD covers "showed Madonna looking 'deliciously cosmopolitan' as she wore a tight-fit white cocktail attire, while the back cover artwork is predominantly more playful."

Throwback Blog: I Celebrate My Independence Soon

Blogger's Note: Throwback blogs are blogs from my past. I start posting past blogs reflecting what I wrote. It's like my "A Second Look" blogs for which I give myself feedback.

Today's throwback blog is titled I Celebrate My Independence Soon written on Jul 4, 2016. My number one goal freedom is clear and present. I substitute the word freedom for the word independence anytime I talk about living on my own because of preference. Freedom is coming. There is no alternative.

The working intelligently for freedom partially changed. I job search once a day from Mon to Sat. I continue learning job skills and life skills when I'm not job searching. The job skills training is the endgame or one final practice including Excel, Python, R, and Power BI. My workouts are two days strength training and two days jogging outdoors.

The working intelligently for freedom partially not changed. I fulfill household chores such as cooking, cleaning, and laundry. I sleep well. I read books. I'm happy I read Harry Potter by J.K. Rowling for the first time on Sep 2019. The timing was perfect I read Harry Potter three times during the COVID-19 global pandemic. I minimize watching television, eating junk food, and visiting my social media.

Today is Independence Day in the United States Of America. The Americans celebrate our independence when the thirteen American colonies became a new nation leaving the British Empire on July 4, 1776. One of these days I'm going to be independent making my own choices, living a consistent life, controlling more of my life, and being more proactive. The bottom line is freedom.

I'm working intelligently to be independent. I'm strong. I'm brave. I job search two times a day every weekday. I learn new skills when I'm not job searching. My current personal projects are learning Python and HTML5. I also stay active. Boredom is a motivation killer. Boredom defeats the reason to live. I workout at the gym four days a week. I fulfill household chores such as cooking, cleaning, and laundry. I sleep well. I read books. My last book was 1984 by George Orwell. I minimize watching television, eating junk food, and visiting my social media.

My independence is not if. My independence is when. I promise to myself and I promise to everyone my earned independence is exciting. I can say my next manifesto includes an exciting independence.

A Robot Does The Job Or Artificial Intelligence Does The Job

I learn in my economic classes at San Jose State University new industries, new products, and new inventions benefits humankind. New incomes. Standard of living improves. New opportunities. New jobs. Prosperity grows globally. The airplane, the personal computer, and the internet are examples.

Boston Dynamics released an updated advanced humanoid robot named Atlas on Thur Jan 19, 2023. Atlas can move with legs and pick items with claws as hands. Atlas can jump, run, grab, throw, and flip. Watch the YouTube video Atlas Gets a Grip | Boston Dynamics.

Never stop innovating. Innovate infinitely. Yet, there must be a limit. There must be an ending. Robots reduce incomes. Standard of living worsens when incomes decline. Fewer opportunities. Fewer jobs. The fight for prosperity intensifies globally. People must be concern with robots replacing human labor. I joke robots take over the world. I should say specifically robots take over many jobs around the world; moreover, no need to worry about negative birth rates. People must be concern with artificial intelligence (AI) replacing human decisions. Many business executives consider using AI with 98% accuracy as cheaper labor.

Visit the company ChatGPT AI's named OpenAI at OpenAI Login. Create a user account to use OpenAI. I haven't tried OpenAI as of the blog entry.

Don't Reinvent The Wheel

There's nothing wrong with trying something new. There's nothing wrong with experimenting. Trial and error. Do something different. However, don't innovate too much. Don't do something different just to do something different. The something different may be something the same. Too many people are reinventing the wheel. Sometimes the reinvented wheel is the same wheel. Sometimes the reinvented wheel is worse than the previous wheel. I see new ideas. I read new ideas. Most of the time these new ideas are fads which disappears in time. Most of the new ideas are actually terrible.

Update On A Past Blog

I questioned never stop innovating or innovate infinitely in Questioning ININ on Sep 10, 2006. If it isn't broken, then don't fix it. Fix it or keep it? Innovate or don't innovate? Inventing a new wheel or reinventing the existing wheel? All of the questions are judgement calls.

Don't Be Stupid The Answer Is In Front Of You

"I say Microsoft and Google have a lot in common. Microsoft never had the humanities and the liberal arts in their DNA. It was a pure technology company. And they just didn't get it. Even when they saw the map, they couldn't even copy it well. How dumb do you have to be to not see it--once you see it, you know. But Google is the same way. They just don't get it." --Steve Jobs, 60 Minutes Overtime

I thought of the quote above the other day. I understand when Jobs said, "they just didn't get it. . . . How dumb do you have to be to not see it . . ." Here is my interpretation.

There are 100 books to be better at something. The something can be self-esteem, success, parenting, physical fitness, investments, programming, home repairs, dancing, basket weaving, sports, and writing. Pick a subject. Fiction books can be included. Music, movies, television shows, foods, cars and trucks, furniture, toys, and sewing equipment can be included. 80 out of the 100 are bad. 80 out of the 100 are garbage. Toss the 80 out. 20 remain. 2 out of the 20 are the best. There are no averages. There are no so-sos. Best or worst. The numbers can be interpreted in multiple ways. 2% are the best. 98% forget them. Although, you may get something out of the 20%. 2% are the best, 18% are pick and choose the best, and 80% forget them.

Take the 2%. Copy them. Model from them. Follow them. The results are proven. Achievements are realized. The procedures are documented. The steps are printed. Don't be stupid. The information is clear, present, and obvious.

Is Tanking The New Way To Succeed?

tank (verb): to make no effort to win; stop trying to win a competition.

I write today's blog on tanking referencing sports. The Houston Astros baseball team lost at least 100 games from 2011 to 2013 and lost 92 games in 2014. The Astros received high draft picks for one of the worse records drafting center fielder George Springer in 2011, shortstop Carlos Correa and pitcher Lance McCullers in 2012, and shortstop Alex Bregman in 2015. These four players played a major factor in the Astros winning the 2017 World Series. The Astros are playing in the 2020 American League Championship Series facing another elimination game down 3-2 out of a best of seven games against the Tampa Bay Rays as of the blog entry. The Astros cheating is another conversion.

The Philadelphia 76ers basketball team won less than 20 games from 2013-2014 season to 2015-2016 season and 28 games for the 2016-2017 season. The 76ers received high draft picks for one of the worse records drafting center Joel Embiid in 2014 and guard Ben Simmons in 2016. These two players are all-stars who turned around the team to NBA Championship contenders. The 76ers were swept by the Boston Celtics in the first round of the 2019-2020 NBA Playoffs. Head coach Brett Brown was fired. Doc Rivers is the new head coach.

The Miami Dolphins football team were speculated to tank for the 2019-2020 season. The Dolphins ended the season 5-11 and last place in their division. There were pre-season and early season rumors Dolphins players demanded trades to leave the team. The Dolphins tanked because they team wanted high draft picks to rebuild their team to championship contender. The Dolphins are 2-3 and third place in their division for the 2020-2021 season as of the blog entry.

The Golden State Warriors basketball team are tanking intentionally and unintentionally. The Warriors are plagued by injuries including all-stars guards Steph Curry and Klay Thompson. The 2019-2020 is a one-off year given the last five NBA seasons the Warriors played in the NBA finals winning three NBA Championships. The Warriors won the second pick in the 2020 NBA Draft Lottery. Their final regular season record guaranteed the Warriors pick between the first pick and the fourth pick.

There is a new philosophy discussion tanking is the new way to become successful. There is no reason to be in the middle. There is no reason to break even. There is no reason to be above average. All or nothing. Go big or go home. Excellent or fail. Get an A or get a F. 100% or 0%.

Go into debt intelligently. Lose more money to earn more money. Spend more money to earn more money. Deconstruct in its entirely to reconstruct completely. Tear down to the ground to build up to the sky.

Hit a home run or strike out. A pitcher pitches one inning or two innings throwing fastballs, fastballs, and fastballs resulting in strike out, strike out, strike out, and pitcher is relieved. Live or die with the three-point shot. A football team with a top-tier quarterback compensates all team weaknesses. I emphasize top-tier! The rest of the team is ignored regardless of talent and skill.

Am I Tanking?

Time is the ultimate judge. Time answers the question soon. I'm waiting for the next opportunity to succeed. Maybe its bad luck. Is success coming? Is tanking working? I'm unemployed. There is no part-time brain-numbing jobs. I'm self-training. I'm self-reviewing. I'm staying proactive. Everyday I'm one step closer to become a self-trained genius.

How About Cheating?

The New England Patriots football team won six NFL Championships in nine Super Bowl appearances. The Patriots cheated multiple times. The Patriots were caught multiple times. Punishments were a slap on the wrist. Cheat, caught, punished, cheat, caught, punished, cheat, caught, punished, . . . . . The result is six NFL Championships.

Throwback Blog: Top Ten Steve Jobs Quotes

Blogger’s Note: Throwback blogs are blogs from my past. I start posting past blogs reflecting what I wrote. It's like my "A Second Look" blogs for which I give myself feedback.

Today's throwback blog is titled Top Ten Steve Jobs Quotes on Aug 3, 2016. Let's review good life wisdom from my favorite famous person I answer the question who I want to meet dead or alive. I read the Steve Jobs biography by Walter Isaacson twice.

Steve Jobs was a genius. He changed the world. I recommend everyone read his biography written by Walter Isaacson. A person's life can change reading the biography with heart. Jobs told Isaacson he never worried about money. Jobs lived a simple life at Reed College and in India. Jobs became rich after Apple went public. Moreover, Jobs promised himself the money didn't ruin his life.

Jobs told Isaacson his thoughts about growing old and the future months before Jobs was fired from Apple: Your thoughts construct patterns like scaffolding in your mind. (p 189-190)

Jobs was brave to destroy; in other words, out of the old and in with the new. Jobs accepted iPhones might cannibalize iPods or iPads might cannibalize laptops. "If you don't cannibalize yourself, someone else will," said Jobs. (p 408)

Listen to Jobs' commencement address at Stanford University in 2005 on YouTube: Steve Jobs' 2005 Stanford Commencement Address. Some of the highlights include the following: (1) You can't connect the dots looking forward; you can only connect them looking backwards. So you have to trust that the dots will somehow connect in your future. You have to trust in something - your gut, destiny, life, karma, whatever. This approach has never let me down, and it has made all the difference in my life. (2) Stay Hungry, Stay Foolish. (3) Your work is going to fill a large part of your life, and the only way to be truly satisfied is to do what you believe is great work. And the only way to do great work is to love what you do. If you haven't found it yet, keep looking. Don't settle. As with all matters of the heart, you'll know when you find it.

I admit I cheated today's top ten. The quotes above are good top ten quotes. I want to mention all of his good quotes totaling greater than ten. Enough said. Here are the top ten Steve Jobs quotes:

10. Picasso had a saying--'good artists copy, great artists steal'--we have always been shameless . . . stealing great ideas.

9. Life can be much broader once you discover one simple fact, and that is everything around you that you call life was made up by people that were no smarter than you, and you can change it, you can influence it, you can build your own things that other people can use. Um, once you learn that, you’ll never be the same again.

Don't let the noise of other's opinions drown out your own inner voice. And most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition. They somehow already know what you truly want to become. Everything else is secondary.

5. Quality is much better than quantity. One home run is much better than two doubles.

4. Sometimes life hits you in the head with a brick. Don't lose faith. I'm convinced that the only thing that kept me going was that I loved what I did. You've got to find what you love. And that is as true for your work as it is for your lovers.

Update On A Past Blog

I dreamed last night a homeless cat in my neighborhood needed help. The dream is another example there are too many pets. The Price Is Right host Bob Baker ends the show saying control the pet population have your pets spay or neuter. The dream reminded me a bullet point from Instant Bullets Blog Aug 11, 2018 Pet Overpopulation. Too many pets is a foreshadow what may happen when there are too many humans.

Reached The Top Innovating Infinitely

I ask myself the following question, "Did I reach my peak innovating my life?" My quick answer is no. My long answer is almost yes. I never stop innovating my life. There is more to learn. I must learn more to live a good life. I must learn more to earn freedom. More work is required to innovate more. More work is required to receive the returns. More time is required to continue getting better. Further, I must find something new. I must think deeper. I must work harder intelligently. Innovating infinitely was easy the first times around. The returns were immediate. The effort was easier. Innovating infinitely is hard today. The returns are later. The effort is harder.

Similarly, I realized I must grow up on Sat Oct 4, 2008. I changed my life to be a true adult. The costs were cheap. The returns were immediate. The changes were easy. I increase the number of friends. I found new hobbies such as hiking, reading fiction books, and ballroom dancing. I created a new gaming PC. I purchased new clothes. I have been catching up what I missed in my youth.

The growing up continues today. The innovate infinitely continues today. The costs are expensive; e.g., I upgraded my gaming PC to a desktop PC for which the upgrade costs is more expensive than a new built PC at a computer store. Another example is seeing new places outside my home. I'm learning new job skills such as Python which is both harder to learn and require more time than reviewing Excel and SQL.

It's easy when a person starts a new job, a person learns new skills, or a person meets new people. The returns are immediate. The costs are cheap. The efforts are easy. Time passes. There are more responsibilities in the job. Skills are advancing to a difficult tier. More time is required to maintain existing relationships and continue meeting new people. The returns are delayed. The costs are expensive. The efforts are hard.

It's ironic some tasks get easier the more involved with quicker returns and some tasks get harder the more involved with delayed returns. Examples of tasks getting easier are playing football, playing games, cooking, driving a car, and reading. Examples of tasks getting harder are programming, relationships, medical care, automotive technology, and television shows. The following is based on my intuition: anything technology or a business gets harder as each gets complex or grows.

In short and in many instances, the closer we reach the peak, more time, more costs, more effort, more research, more practice, more mistakes, and more frustrations are inevitable to achieve another goal.

The Philosophies Of Raymond Mar Which Changed

People change. Some people think we're not going to change. We like ourselves. Our lives are happy. Life can't get better or can't get worse. Life changes. Life changes people by choices, by circumstances, or by moments. People can't control many life changes.

I get stronger, smarter, kinder, and wiser each day l live. Each day I live I change for the better. I innovate infinitely. One change is my beliefs. Some of my beliefs change. I hope my beliefs change for the better.

I wrote three "The Philosophies Of Raymond Mar" blogs. The first was on Sun Dec 2, 2012. The second was on Sun Jun 23, 2013. The third was on Sun May 25, 2014. I take another look rereading the three blogs.

The Philosophies Of Raymond Mar

There are no changes. These philosophies have stood the test of time. The highlights include "innovate infinitely" which means never stop innovating your life. Seek new adventures. Experience new experiences. Love is the ultimate happiness. Timing and luck are factors in success. Never stop meeting new people. Adults living a life with hate must grow up. And everyone must have a cell phone.

However, there are minor edits or addendum to my top 30 blogs from my first 300 blogs I wrote:

*Number 17. I wrote, "Everyone has the right to find happiness." Number 17 is edited to the following, "Pursue happiness to find happiness." Some people don't have a right to find happiness. If people want happiness, they must earn it. Nobody should take their happiness for granted.

*Number 19. I wrote, "Have fun, learn, and enjoy." Number 19 is edited to the following, "Take life one day at a time." Life is not fun and not enjoyable every day. There are days people must grind it out. Stay strong. Stay tough. Take everything one at a time.

*Number 26. I wrote, "Live the present. Live the moment." I added the word intelligently at the end to read "Live the present. Live the moment intelligently." Some people abuse the living the present, living the moment attitude making wrong choices. Make smarter choices living today for a better tomorrow. The present moments and the present choices affect future moments and future lives. The present and the future are complementary.

The Philosophies Of Raymond Mar 2

There are no changes. These philosophies have stood the test of time. The highlights include avoid buying cheap gas, dress for success, breakfast is the most important meal of the day, and dump the junk.

One addendum is playing board games. I play board games because it's a social activity. I communicate with people. I can meet new people with like interests. Some board games involve thinking. I see myself playing board games in my senior citizen years. Online board games are excluded. Playing board games is live with real people touching the board game accessories.

The Philosophies Of Raymond Mar 3

Some of these philosophies have stood the test of time. The highlights include physical activity, a good Monday sets the tone for the weekdays, no shoes worn inside the residence, and actually holding a book and newspaper or no ebooks and enewspapers. I stand by my philosophy some physical activity is not physical activity such as routine walking and gardening. I stand by my philosophy Costco's fruit and vegetable selections stink.

There is one change which is, "If you have no friends, you might as well be dead." My initial philosophy was people live a good life being with people. People must be with people to live a good life. My philosophy is changed. There are some people who rather be alone than be with some people. These people are happier avoiding certain people. I experience being happier choosing to be alone. There are some people I can't be with anymore unfortunately speaking. I waste my time spending time with them. I contribute little to nothing when together. I use the time to complete more productive tasks. It's okay to be alone. It's not okay to be lonely. If you're lonely, then go out and find some new people to make new friends.

Top Ten Steve Jobs Quotes

Steve Jobs was a genius. He changed the world. I recommend everyone read his biography written by Walter Isaacson. A person's life can change reading the biography with heart. Jobs told Isaacson he never worried about money. Jobs lived a simple life at Reed College and in India. Jobs became rich after Apple went public. Moreover, Jobs promised himself the money didn't ruin his life.

Jobs told Isaacson his thoughts about growing old and the future months before Jobs was fired from Apple: Your thoughts construct patterns like scaffolding in your mind.

8. Innovation has nothing to do with how many R&D dollars you have. When Apple came up with the Mac, IBM was spending at least 100 times more on R&D. It’s not about money. It’s about the people you have, how you’re led, and how much you get it.

7. When you grow up, you tend to get told that the world is the way it is and your life--and your life is just to live inside your world. Try not to bash into the walls too much, try to have a nice family life, have fun, save a little money. That’s a very limited life.

3. I began to realize that an intuitive understanding and consciousness was more significant than abstract thinking and intellectual logical analysis . . . intuition is a very powerful thing, more powerful than intellect, in my opinion. That's had a big impact on my work.

2. You're born alone, you're going to die alone. And what exactly is it do you have to lose. There's nothing.

1. The journey is the reward.

Throwback Blog: Chapter N: Playtime Is Over

Blogger’s Note: Throwback blogs are blogs from my past. I start posting past blogs reflecting what I wrote. It's like my "A Second Look" blogs for which I give myself feedback.

Today's throwback blog is titled Chapter N: Playtime Is Over in May 2012. Most people know the moment when it's time to grow up. It's time to be a mature adult. Be responsible. Earn the successes. Own the actions. 2012 was a year I had lots of fun. I knew there is a time my fun end. The fun began ending in Sep 2014. My fun ended in May 2015. Memories were created.

I look forward to my independence. I have been working intelligently to earn it. The independence path is long. The independence path is challenging. There have been victories. There have been setbacks. It's life. I still find time for leisure. Pace myself. Stay focus. I make more of my own choices, control more of my life, live a good life consistently, and more proactive for myself eventually.

(N stands for number or N = Number.)

Most of us experience a moment when a new chapter begins in our lives. We shake our heads and blink our eyes for a moment to realize that chapter starts now as if an “oh my gosh, what did I just saw” moment. We start to see with our minds instead of our eyes. Our hands feel responsibility. We start to communicate with intelligence. And we walk with our back straight and head held high. These are signs of confidence and maturity. It’s time to grow up.

The days of being lazy, being bored, and acting like a baby are gone. The days of having too much fun, being reckless, and goofing off are done. Naivety and being an idiot are unacceptable. The teenage and college life are no longer your lifestyle. The time is devoted to adult responsibilities, adult priorities, and adult choices. Life revolves around the world, not you. You must earn it if you want the world to revolve around you. Earn it.

My Chapter N is approaching soon. New choices and new priorities are coming to my life. I spend more time on work to complete my responsibilities and to continue learning new job skills. My new priorities are taking care of myself when I move out. The days of playing video games, wearing costumes to Japanese animation conventions, and watching cartoons are over. The days of working smarter, meeting new people and creating new relationships, and experiencing new experiences begin. I want to visit new places.

I expect my daily lifestyle to change. I wear new clothes, cook new foods, read new types of books, and follow new gym workout plans. I always innovate my life physically, intelligently, emotionally, and financially. There is always a better way living my life.

Out with the old and in with the new. Playtime is over. It’s time to grow up and be a mature adult. Never take life too serious. It’s okay to have fun—just not ridiculous fun. Live life being mature, responsible, and let your actions show who you are. Be confident and be brave to make mistakes.

I Remember My 10 Year Blog Anniversary Yesterday

I listened to a podcast yesterday rebroadcasting the first episode for their fifth anniversary. The podcast reminded me Innovating Common Knowledge's 10 year anniversary--one month later. Happy ten year anniversary Innovating Common Knowledge blog!

I posted my first blog on Aug 4, 2005 titled My First Blog. I blogged a group of kids dumped a recycling bin in front of my house spilling the contents on the street. I looked forward to celebrate ten years writing blogs earlier in 2015. My highest priorities finding a job, learning new job skills, and living independently occupy my mind daily. The celebrations are delayed. The simple happy greeting is sufficient.

I'm happier, stronger, smarter, kinder, wiser, more confident, more optimistic, more positive, and more joy today compared to ten years ago. There's more innovating my life ahead. I hope my blogs get better, I get better, and the people who read my blogs get better. I hope I help people innovate their lives. I hope my blogs made a difference.

I begin posting flashback blogs starting at my 1,000th blog. I provide feedback. It's likely I have a different viewpoint. I look forward to share new feelings. Maybe I admit I made a mistake. Maybe I innovated my life what and when I wrote on flashback blog.

Thank you for reading my blogs!

You're Still Innovating Infinitely

I wrote a blog questioning Innovate Infinitely titled What Is Innovate Infinitely? on Mon Jul 7. I answered I haven't innovated my life infinitely. I still live at home. My life has changed little. I was still weak. My life moved forward too slowly.

"You can't connect the dots looking forward; you can only connect them looking backwards," said Steve Jobs at the 2005 Stanford University Commencement. My life since I created Innovating Infinitely in 2000 has actually been good. I've been innovating my life infinitely. I accepted the slow and growing process. Perhaps, too slow compared to some; however, faster than others. I achieved much millions of people haven't. It's time to speed up the growing process. I wait for the timing is right to make my fast move. Here are some examples connecting the dots backwards below in the meantime.

*Business And Investment Books. I started read these books in 1999. I continued reading the books with high interest in 2002. These books taught me new perspectives on rich people, why people start a business, and investing in the stock market. Many investors are investing with, in my opinion, wrong and outdated information. Many investors are lacking solid financial education.

*New Reporting And Analysis. The innovating infinitely attitude allowed me to take the Research Department to new heights starting in 2002. I created new reports and new analysis to assist the commercial real estate brokers in marketing their properties, helping meet new clients, and making their lives easier closing deals.

*Wearing Costumes At Anime Conventions. I wore a costume for the first time at the Japan Town Anime Faire in Sep 2004. I knew wearing costumes helped me meet new people. I didn't know wearing costumes resulted in making long-term friends. Furthermore, wearing costumes continued my anime hobby from 2004 to 2014. I thought about quitting at the end of 2004.

*Trips And Vacations. Innovating infinitely involves seeking new adventures and experiencing new experiences. The first vacation started in Jul 2003 when my family and I took a week trip that included Las Vegas, Grand Canyon, and San Diego. My friend from Washington and I took a three day trip to Las Vegas in Dec 2004 and Dec 2006. My first foreign country visit to Canada took place in Aug 2005.

*More New Friends In 2006. 2006 was a big year meeting new people and making new friends. Some of them are important in my life today.

*Gym. A good friend recommended bodybuilding.com to download workout plans in Sept 2008. I follow the plans today. I was motivated to improve my workout. I purchased new workout clothing. I'm looking forward to follow intermediate workout plans when I establish a good body core. It's going to be easier to workout consistently because I retired from anime.

*Ballroom Dancing. My sister introduced ballroom dancing in Jan 2009. She was an amateur competitive ballroom dancer. Learning ballroom dancing resulted in taking classes at De Anza College starting in Mar 2009. I also met new people and made new friends.

*Accounting at De Anza College. Taking ballroom dancing classes inspired me to continue attending De Anza College taking accounting classes. Accounting was an alternate major when I attended San Jose State. I took my first accounting class in Sep 2009 and graduated in Mar 2011.

*New Interests, Skills, And Knowledge. I taught myself SQL, Salesforce, and Photoshop. I'm currently reviewing Excel's pivot tables, V-lookups, and analysis. I'm learning Python. I learned how to change the oil in my car, cook, and play MahJong (Riichi). I started reading fiction books. The reason why I continue to learn new skills and knowledge professionally and personally is because . . .

*. . . I grew up. Sat Oct 4, 2008 is the day I remember for the rest of my life. I realized I must grow up. Playtime is over. It's time to act my age. It's time to stop taking life for granted. I must earn what I want. There is so much in life to try and to do. I never settle. My life changed forever. Looking back from Sat Oct 4, 2008 to today, I have been innovating my life infinitely. There is much more to do.

The New Job Interview

I experienced my share of good interviews and bad interviews. There were some interviews I did a good job being the interviewee and the interviewers did a good job conducting the interview; unfortunately, I was never hired. There were some interviews I did a good job being the interviewee and the interviewers did a bad job conducting the interview; fortunately, I was never hired.

I wonder how some bad workers are hired. The bad workers can have problems such as difficulty getting along with other workers, unqualified, or bad personalities such as short temper or too much criticism. Do some of the bad hires lie? Do some of these bad hires sell themselves well the interviewers fail to notice the warning signs? I hear stories from my friends some of their co-workers are terrible at their jobs. These bad co-workers include negative personalities, lack of qualifications, too many mistakes, and making poor choices.

The classic question and answer interview is outdated. The questions are clique. The answers are clique. Tell me about yourself? How do you handle conflicts? What are your job goals? What do you look forward to working here? Anyone can memorize good answers from an interview book. Anyone can memorize good story lies; on the other hand, who doesn't lie in interviews.

Today's new interview is the conversation interview. Have a conversation with the candidate. It's similar to two people meeting for the first time. It's similar to two people on a date for the first time. The two people shouldn't talk like a job interview. They have conversations. They learn about each other. The conversation interview is good for multiple people interviewing a candidate, too. Furthermore, interviewee and interviewers must position themselves in an open and friendly environment to project good body flow.

Interviews are subjective. For instance, a good candidate can be qualified with years of experience and a good education; however, if the chemistry is no match, then the good candidate is skipped. Another instance is a candidate with a down-to-earth and funny personality is passed because the company dislikes loud people. These instances can happen.

What's my advice regarding interviews? Be professional. Be discrete. Think before you speak. How do I know a job candidate is worth hiring when I'm interviewing a job candidate? I feel comfortable having a beer with him or her.

I Always Have Something To Write

My Innovate Common Knowledge Blog is active. I share my ideas, opinions, thoughts, experiences, mistakes, victories . . . anything, anywhere, and anyone from my five senses. I express moments and instances when I'm smarter, wiser, and learning something new. I write when I innovate common knowledge. I occasionally write a funny blog. I stink being funny, yet I continue to improve my comedy skills. I continue to blog from serious conversations to lighthearted moments.

A few of my common themes include:

*meeting new people
*encouraging people to seek new adventures and experience new experiences
*innovating infinitely
*changing to be better and smarter
*being physically active
*cooking meals and reading books
*getting up and doing something, anything

I brought back the Top Ten lists in Oct 2012. The last time I wrote a top ten was in Sept 2009. I post pictures of my life from my smart phone camera. I blog my occasional Sign Of My Times (SOMT) series which talks about how life changing today compared to my younger days. And I post of picture of my face during my post Accutane treatment. I have plenty to write.

Anything can inspire me to write a blog. Some inspirations include a current event, a picture, an article, a past moment in my life, a book I read, a new life philosophy I thought about, a recent conversation, an observation, and just thinking. Writing a blog keeps my writing skills sharp and my brain active. I stop writing when I stop living.

A Job Opening Tells More Than Apply Here

I'm currently looking for a job. I search and apply for job openings weekdays. I learn the job skills, the job knowledge, and the job requirements employers are looking to fill their open position. There is information every worker should know in today's information age and continuous changing job environment.

If I don't know the job skills and knowledge, then I find training classes. For example, some business analyst positions require Oracle and Salesforce. I'm viewing tutorials from Salesforce's website and watching YouTube videos. Oracle is on my list to learn soon. I found online classes on Oracle. In the meantime, I'm refreshing my basic software skills in Excel, PowerPoint, and Crystal Reports.

A College Assignment Out Of The Textbook

I suggest college students do a job search related to their majors starting in their junior year. The job search should include part-time and internship positions. The important reason is students learn the job opportunities, the job skills, and the job requirements related to their college major employers and the workforce are looking for. Students know what employers are looking for regarding hiring recent college graduates. They can enroll in classes best suited for their initial career goals. The information from job openings is not taught in classrooms.

Veteran workers should also do a job search to keep informed on the latest and greatest job trends. The job search should give the worker an idea what new job skills and job knowledge he or she must learn to increase the chances of a promotion in good times and staying employed in bad times. I suggest doing a job search every two or three months.

Never take a job for granted. Never stop learning. Never stop innovating.
