Steve Jobs Quotes

Here are some quotes from the late co-founder of Apple.

I began to realize that an intuitive understanding and consciousness was more significant than abstract thinking and intellectual logical analysis . . . intuition is a very powerful thing, more powerful than intellect, in my opinion. That's had a big impact on my work.

I say Microsoft and Google have a lot in common. Microsoft never had the humanities and the liberal arts in their DNA. It was a pure technology company. And they just didn't get it. Even when they saw the map, they couldn't even copy it well. How dumb do you have to be to not see it--once you see it, you know. But Google is the same way. They just don't get it.

If you don't cannibalize yourself, someone else will.

Innovation has nothing to do with how many R&D dollars you have. When Apple came up with the Mac, IBM was spending at least 100 times more on R&D. It's not about money. It's about the people you have, how you're led, and how much you get it.

Life can be much broader once you discover one simple fact, and that is everything around you that you call life was made up by people that were no smarter than you, and you can change it, you can influence it, you can build your own things that other people can use. Um, once you learn that, you'll never be the same again.

Picasso had a saying--'good artists copy, great artists steal'--we have always been shameless . . . stealing great ideas.

Some people say, "Give the customers want they want." But that's not my approach. Our job is to figure out what they're going to want before they do. I think Henry Ford once said, "If I'd asked customers what they wanted, they would have told me, 'A faster horse!'" People don't know what they want until you show it to them. That's why I never rely on market research. Our task is to read things that are not yet on the page."

Sometimes life hits you in the head with a brick. Don't lose faith. I'm convinced that the only thing that kept me going was that I loved what I did. You've got to find what you love. And that is as true for your work as it is for your lovers.

Stay hungry, stay foolish.

The journey is the reward.

When you grow up, you tend to get told that the world is the way it is and your life--and your life is just to live inside your world. Try not to bash into the walls too much, try to have a nice family life, have fun, save a little money. That's a very limited life.

You can't connect the dots looking forward; you can only connect them looking backwards. So you have to trust that the dots will somehow connect in your future. You have to trust in something--your gut, destiny, life, karma, whatever. This approach has never let me down, and it has made all the difference in my life.

Your thoughts construct patterns like scaffolding in your mind. You are really etching chemical patterns. In most cases, people get stuck in those patterns, just like grooves in a record, and they never get out of them. I'll always stay connected with Apple. I hope that throughout my life I'll sort of have the thread of my life and the thread of Apple weave in and out of each other, like a tapestry. There may be a few years when I'm not there, but I'll always come back. . . . If you want to live your life in a creative way, as an artist, you have to not look back too much. You have to be willing to take whatever you've done and whoever you were and throw them away. The more the outside world tries to reinforce an image of you, the harder it is to continue to be an artist, which is why a lot of times, artists have to say, "Bye, I have to go. I'm going crazy and I'm getting out of here." And they go and hibernate somewhere. Maybe later they re-emerge a little differently.

Your time is limited, so don't waste it living someone else's life. Don't be trapped by dogma--which is living with the results of other people's thinking. Don't let the noise of other's opinions drown out your own inner voice. And most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition. They somehow already know what you truly want to become. Everything else is secondary.

Your work is going to fill a large part of your life, and the only way to be truly satisfied is to do what you believe is great work. And the only way to do great work is to love what you do. If you haven't found it yet, keep looking. Don't settle. As with all matters of the heart, you'll know when you find it.

You're born alone, you're going to die alone. And what exactly is it do you have to lose. There's nothing.

The last quote is three paragraphs.

"I sort of look at us as two of the luckiest guys (Steve Jobs and Bill Gates) on the planet cause we found what we loved to do. And we were at the right place at the right time. We gotten to go to work every day with super bright people for 30 years, and do what we love doing. It's hard to be happier than that. Your family and that. What more can you ask for? So, I don't think about legacy that much. I just think about being able to get up every day and go in and hang around these great people and hopefully create something that other people will love as much as we do. And if we can do that, that's great.

"People say you have to have a lot of passion for what you're doing. And it's totally true. And the reason is because it's so hard that if you don't, any rational person would give up. It's really hard. And you have to do it over a sustained period of time. So if you don't love it, if you're not having fun doing it, you don't really love it, you're gonna give up. And that's what happens to most people actually. If you really look at the ones that ended up being successful *in air quotes* in the eyes of society, and the ones that didn't, oftentimes, it's the ones that are successful loved what they did so they can persevere when it got really tough, and the ones that didn't love it quit cause they're sane. Right? Who want to put up with this stuff if you don't love it. So, it's a lot of hard work. And it's a lot of worrying constantly. And if you don't love it, you're going to fail. So you gotta love it. You got to have passion. And I think that's the high order albeit.

"The second thing is you got be a really good talent scout. No matter how smart you are you need a team of great people. And you got to figure out how to size people up fairly quickly, make decisions without knowing people too well, and hire them, and see how you do and refine your intuition and be able to help build an organization that can eventually just build itself cause you need great people around you."

Twenty Random Blogs Aug 2025

Blogger's note: I increase the number of random blogs from ten to twenty.

Here are twenty random blogs in order of randomly chosen. Duplicate blogs are allowed from past random blogs. There are no duplicates today. The previous random blogs are Ten Random Blogs Jul 2020 on Jul 31, 2020, Ten Random Blogs Aug 2021 on Aug 13, 2021, and Ten Random Blogs Apr 2023 on Apr 16, 2023. Update remarks are included.

1. Watch Wall Street (Sep 26, 2005). I shared my activities before and on Sep 26, 2005.

Update remark: Wall Street is one of my all time favorite movies.

2. Never Stop Learning Lesson Emphasized Because One Of The Shermans Past Away (May 05, 2017). The Shermans was a couple who lived in the neighborhood for decades. They moved to the eastern USA to be closer to their families. The husband past away. The wife passed away in Jul 2017.

The lessons I learned continue today. Never stop learning. Find new experiences to experience. Don't waste life watching television eight hours a day. Some seniors choose the sedentary life watching too much television.

Update remark: Rest in peace Bob and Alice.

3. Three Hours Of Me Time Weekdays (Feb 08, 2013). I wrote my life working Mon to Fri from 9am to 6pm. Wake up, go to work, work at the company building, go home, and sleep eight hours. Three hours of personal time remain. Repeat.

Update remark: No full time worker sleeps eight hours a night on weeknights. More workers lose concentration, act grumpy, feel weaker, and make more mistakes. No full time worker spares three hours of personal time. There are too many responsibilities in today's Information Age. A worker must complete an hour's work in 30 minutes.

A balanced life doesn't exist. The successful people don't live a balanced life to become successful.

4. Throwback Blog: I'm No Longer Nice (Aug 27, 2016). I reuploaded a previous blog be a good person. Don't be a nice person.

Update remark: I posted an I'm No Longer Nice blog update on Aug 21, 2025 Keep Going In Life. I added, "Being extra nice doesn't result in extra rewards. It's not aloofness does pay. It's niceness doesn't pay."

5. It's Okay To Live At Home (Jun 18, 2013). I wrote valid reasons sons and daughters live at home with their parents. Sons and daughters must not take for granted living at home. Sons and daughters must continue living their lives to the best of their abilities.

Update remark: The blog is 100% true today.

6. Shelter In-Place COVID-19 Blog February 2023 (Mar 05, 2023). California ended the pandemic state of emergency on Feb 28, 2023. It was the start of loosening restrictions and mask mandates.

Update remark: None.

7. Highlight and Favorite 2019 Tweets (Dec 30, 2020). My favorite Tweets in 2019. I share my top favorites:

Tweets

Jan 21: A conversation starter. Ask the question, "What keeps you busy?"

Jul 28: I'm not dumbing down. Never dumb down your life. Don't be an asshole for yourself. Don't let people drag you down. Nobody holds your back.

Jul 28: These people must leave your life. People come and go for good or for bad. Some people leave your life. New people enter your life.

Sep 22: I just finished watching The Shawshank Redemption. My high school and college friend watched the movie when it was released in theaters. It was the most boring movie he watched. He didn't understand the point. I avoided the movie.

Sep 22: I choose to watch the movie decades later. Good movie. Recommended. The movie is slow. I put the pieces together watching the movie without success.

Sep 22: My friend is correct up to the climax of the movie. It's the best full circle movie I have ever watched. Stick around. Don't give up. Have hope. The pieces are together. Good things can happen.

Sep 25: The female middle school student was wise beyond her years. RT @BoyYeetsWorld: one time in middle school i dated a girl for 4 days and when she broke up with me she posted on facebook sometimes your knight in shining armor is really just a loser in tinfoil and to this day that the sickest burn I've ever gotten.

12. My First Pop Tart (Sep 12, 2007). I ate a pop tart for the first time in my life. It was strawberry and strawberry with icing.

Update remark: No more pop tarts in my diet. I rarely drink milk. I stopped eating oatmeal in 2018.

13. De Anza Week Nov 15, 2010 (Nov 18, 2010). I went back to school to earn an AA degree in Accounting. I blogged one week during Winter Quarter 2010 at De Anza College. The week consisted of students and instructors with too much on their minds and too fatigued.

Update remark: They were the same yesterday. They are the same today.

14. First Time I Saw A Restaurant Close On Tuesdays (Dec 09, 2018). I said it best. "2018 is over. I wanted to try a restaurant in another city for the first time. I was in the area on Tue Dec 4. Update remark: I have not experienced another 2018. I have not let life take control of me.

16. A Procedure To Stop Insanity (Sep 09, 2021). A life wisdom. Everyone is different. Everything is different. Birds of a feather flock together. Different folks for different strokes. There are matches. There are mismatches. A circle can't fit in a square peg.

Update remark: Live your life who, what, where, how, and I match who you are.

17. Lonely And Cheerful (Jul 24, 2007). I felt lonely and depressed in Jul 2007. I didn't feel cheerful. False optimism.

Update remark: The 2007 Summer Sabbatical failed. I did everything wrong. I admit I made a mistake. 2007 should have been one of the best years of my life. 2007 was one of the worst years of my life.

18. Throwback Blog: SOMT: Kodak Declares Bankruptcy (Sep 30, 2017). Toys R Us declared bankruptcy on Sep 19, 2017 which inspired the throwback blog on Kodak declared bankruptcy. The throwback blog was a brief explanation of the Kodak bankruptcy and my experiences using a film camera and a digital camera.

Update remark: Mismanagement, Amazon and Wal-Mart, and poor customer service are not the top reasons Toys R Us declared bankruptcy.

19. Work Mar 8, 2014 (Mar 08, 2014). I blogged the highlights when I worked in a retail start up. Dermatitis on my hands. Refusing a shipment. Both store locations short-handed. Purchased my first bottle of wine Raymond Cabernet Sauvignon "Generations" 2009. Wi-Fi problems.

Half-Ass Vacation Or Half-Ass Job Training

I approved Dec 2022. It was justified. Something was better than nothing legitimately. I job trained half-ass last month. Or I took a half-ass vacation last month. In other words, I combined job training and vacation. Some days there were more job training and less vacation. Some days there were more vacation and less job training. Either perspective the goals were accomplished.

I thought of the half vacation and half job training when I cleaned the house on Mon Nov 28, 2022 and Tue Nov 29, 2022. There is more to life than work. Or there is more to work than fun. Dec 2022 was catch up during the vacation time. I caught up outstanding life knowledge, lessons, and skills to learn. I couldn't have too much fun. There were mature responsibilities. Distractions were minimized. Lower priorities not finished one day were completed another day. There were no emergencies. All last minute new priorities were minor. One last minute and once in a blue moon event took an entire day.

Injured Reserve

Furthermore, I went with the flow. My physical workouts were half-ass because my left knee strained. I benefited being on 50% injured reserve since Nov. No jogging resulted in at least two free hours each week. Weight lifting continued. I started jogging again on Fri Jan 27, 2023.

2021 Year In Review

The seven nominations and its explanations for the moment of the year.

1. Black Friday 2021. I reminded myself wait to buy and stock up on bare necessities on Black Friday. Many of my bare necessities were at Black Friday sale prices. Buying on Black Friday was a good approach to minimize expenses.

2. Final Fantasy VII. I completed my second Final Fantasy video game.

3. Harry Potter. I reread Harry Potter two more times. The third time I read backwards from Year 7 to Year 1. Year 7 replaces Year 5 as my favorite Harry Potter book.

4. Job training. I combined Excel, Power Point, and dashboards in one day. I added R and R-Studio training on Sat mornings. I reduced the number of training days from six to five per week. The sixth day on Thurs is not necessarily a day off. The sixth day is life training outside job training.

5. Physical fitness. My physical fitness is four days a week consistently. Good health is maintained.

6. Summer Sabbatical in Oct. I corrected the 2007 Summer Sabbatical in Oct. I also corrected the retail rotation. I wrote a blog on Dec 13, 2021 titled I Corrected My Retail Rotation.

7. Wallstreet Bets. I learned more about Wall Street and financial investments in 2021 than in the past decades and the classes when I was a student at San Jose State University and De Anza College.

Explanation: No moment of the year for the small moments Black Friday 2021 and Final Fantasy VII. Final Fantasy VII is a revolutionary classic RPG all gamers must play. Rereading Harry Potter two more times was fantastic especially noting what I missed the first time I read it. I felt like I prepare myself for a trivia contest. Trivia was not a moment of the year. Solid recognitions to job training and physical fitness because I was consistent and productive. I also improved and changed learning new job skills and adding physical workouts. My longest daily jog is 4.5 miles as of the blog post. The Summer Sabbatical was a desperate break. I corrected how I should take a sabbatical and how I should prioritize my daily responsibilities. Wallstreet Bets caught my attention in Jan 2021. I could add financial education to the learning new job skills and adding physical workouts mentality.

What Won: Wallstreet Bets.

What Should Have Won: Wallstreet Bets.

My Thoughts On The Winning Moment: No brainer. All the financial education I learned in college was a joke. Regardless, all investors including professionals and amateurs must learn the basics. Thank you Google, Reddit, Yahoo Finance, and YouTube for providing sources to learn deeper.

2021 Letter Grade: B. Three consecutive good years 2019-2021. 2010-2012 was the last time I lived three consecutive good years. There was neither financial rewards nor employment income given I'm unemployed long-term. I hope the 2021 gains pay off in the future. The COVID-19 global pandemic survival mentality continues.

Black Friday 2021

There was no Black Friday 2021 shopping on Fri Nov 26. 2021 was the second year in a row I stayed home. All of my Black Friday shopping was online. I pick up my orders at the retail stores. Many stores offered Black Friday deals during the Thanksgiving week.

Sun Nov 21

Azul, Deluxe UNO 50th Anniversary Reissue, and Ticket To Ride Europe board games at Target. The board games were splurges at 50% off. The 50% was a first time for me. I sell other board games to make room for these three new board games.

Thur Nov 25

Nike React Infinity Run Flyknit 2 Men's Road Running Shoes at Nike. It was the first time I saved money at Nike.

Fri Nov 26

Another pair of Nike React Infinity Run Flyknit 2 Men's Road Running Shoes at Nike.

Calvin Klein black 3-pack classic knit boxers and Jockey black Flex 365 4-pack boxer briefs at Macys. I remember past Black Fridays underwear was 40% off.

Tue Nov 30

Four boxer briefs at Gap Factory.

I shop on Black Fridays to purchase bare necessities which includes stocking up on bare necessities, to buy new durable goods, to upgrade existing durable goods, and to buy DVDs on my wish list. Black Fridays are good shopping days for appliances, clothes, new TVs, desktop parts, and towels. If I can wait for the Black Friday, then I wait.

Update On A Past Blog

I wrote my Summer Sabbatical October 2021 blog on Dec 6, 2021. My 2021 vacation or staycation was correcting my Summer Sabbatical 2007. I remembered I declare my Summer Sabbatical 2007 blogging Summer Of 2001 In 2007 on Jun 1, 2007. I mentioned it was a failure when I wrote Top Ten Wisdom Acquired In 2007 I Failed To Follow on Jan 10, 2020. The Summer Of 2001 In 2007 was number 10. I admitted I "took it too easy, relaxed too much, impatient, rushed, and had too much fun. Summer Sabbatical 2007 was the time I took life for granted. I didn't solve problems I need to solve."

Summer Sabbatical October 2021

I was tired in Oct 2021. I was tired watching other people living their lives better than me. I was tired living the same routine. I was tired learning. I was tired reviewing. I was tired training. I was tired maintaining me. I was losing my motivation to be stronger. I was tired taking care of me.

I choose to take a break. I choose to relax. I choose to take a staycation. I realized it was a sabbatical while I planned my staycation which was primarily completing less priority obligations and responsibilities. I said to myself, "I correct my 2007 Summer Sabbatical. I do a sabbatical correctly. I don't make the mistakes back in 2007." I detailed 2007 in two blogs 2007 Was Actually A Bad Year admitting 2007 was a bad year and not a good year written on Oct 13, 2008, and The Year Was 2007 mentioning the failed summer sabbatical written on May 17, 2010.

I don't know what I call my second sabbatical as of the blog entry honestly speaking. It can be Sabbatical October 2021, Sabbatical 2.0, or Summer Sabbatical October 2021 to remind myself Summer from the failed Summer Sabbatical 2007 even though October is in the fall season. I detail the highlights I successfully corrected myself a productive, responsible, and mature sabbatical.

Wed Oct 20 and Thur Oct 21. Read a backlog of articles.

Fri Oct 22. Restored the household cars' headlights. I realized the polish is the more important step than applying the cleaning paste to verify a clean shine. I listened to the American League Championship Series Houston Astros and Boston Red Sox on the radio. I watched the National League Championship Series Atlanta Braves and Los Angeles Dodgers on TV in the ninth inning. I finished reading Harry Potter And The Chamber Of Secrets by J.K. Rowling for the third time. I uploaded music on my phone to listen while I fall asleep.

Sat Oct 23. I uploaded more music on my phone for jogging and for falling asleep.

Sun Oct 24. Rained all day non-stop. I watched part of the Indianapolis Colts at San Francisco 49ers Sunday Night football game.

Sat Oct 30. I finished reading The Big Book Of Beatrix Potter. I watched the last five minutes of the Michigan Wolverines and Michigan State Spartans football game. I watched Invasion Of The Body Snatchers (1978). I researched lighters to purchase for everyday carry. Purchasing a lighter was possible for Black Friday 2021.

Sun Oct 31. I watched partial football games San Francisco 49ers at Chicago Bears, New England Patriots at Los Angeles Chargers, and Tampa Bay Buccaneers at New Orleans Saints.

Mon Nov 1. I cleaned the kitchen sink. I completed monthly maintenances new bedsheets and new towels. I replaced the dining tablecloth which is changed every two months.

Tue Nov 2. I watched The World Series Game 6 Atlanta Braves at Houston Astros ninth inning.

Wed Nov 3. I got a haircut.

Thur Nov 4. I uploaded new profile pics for all my social media accounts.

What about my daily responsibilities? All of them were completed sincerely. They were checking emails, exercising, job searching, cooking for the household, and listening to podcasts. The biggest difference during the sabbatical was no job training. I used the job training time to catch up. I rested my body, mind, and soul inside and outside even though I was still active body, mind, and soul inside and outside.

I officially dated the sabbatical Wed Oct 13 to Sun Oct 31 even though my highlights included early Nov. I felt refreshed. I felt refocused. The transition was easing. I eased slowly back to my working hard to earn freedom routine. I stared on Mon Nov 1 with the job skill Excel, Tue Nov 2 SQL, Wed Nov 3 Python, Thur Nov 4 Power Query, Fri Nov 5 PowerPoint and Access, and Sat Nov 6 R-Studio. The next week was Mon Nov 8 Power Pivot; Tue Nov 9 Python; Wed Nov 10 routine day off for other responsibilities and commitments; Thur Nov 11 Sublime Text, Linux, and Git; Fri Nov 12 Power BI; and Sat Nov 13 R-Studio. I completed the Access review on Tue Nov 16. I don't have a replacement skill as of the blog entry.

I also ease transition learning and reviewing life skills. The life skills are the following: making paper airplanes, tying knots, pioneering or lashings, sewing a button, sewing using an awl, and shuffling cards. I'm always open to learn new life skills. I don't have any new books to read as of the blog entry.

At The End

The inbox is never empty. The job training never stops. Life skills learning continues indefinitely. Everyone needs to sleep. Spread out intelligently. Don't be too focused. There are stupid people who posts on social meeting for fake self-esteem boost from likes and comments. I spend 30 minutes on all my social media accounts to keep in touch and be informed. The world doesn't come to an end.

Update On A Past Blog

I understand better why some people eat junk food as comfort food. I wrote about eating junk food as comfort food for the first time at 2018 Christmas Holiday Firsts: Stress, Cowardness, Comfort Food on Jan 13, 2019. The junk food as comfort food was an anti-depress, anti-stress, and forget-all-worries.

Eating too much junk food can be a call for help. Eating too much junk food can communicate I'm tired of my life. I'm tired of the routine. I'm tired of boredom. Life is the same old, same old. Eating too much junk food is not a replacement for action to change.

Timeout Good Raymond Mar III

Blogger's note: Today's blog is posted at Innovating Common Knowledge and at Finding Raymond Mar.

Blogger's note two: Today's blog is overdue. The vacation happened in Dec 2020-Jan 2021. I was supposed the write the blog in Feb 2021.

I took a vacation from Dec 20, 2020 to Jan 15, 2021. The last time I took a planned vacation was Jul 14-19, 2015. I blogged the Jul 2015 Timeout Good Raymond Mar. I took an unplanned vacation on Apr 6-21, 2019 Timeout Good Raymond Mar II. Honestly speaking, I forgot about the Apr 2019 vacation. I discovered the Apr 2019 vacation when I searched for past Innovating Common Knowledge vacation blogs. Was my latest vacation overdue?

The short answer is yes. The long answer is no. My Dec 2020-Jan 2021 vacation was not a 100% vacation. It was not 100% fun. I job trained on some days. I caught up watching documentaries. I sold eBay auctions. I cleaned the house. I cooked the meals. I wrote blogs. I job searched. I exercised. There was work to be completed. I was responsible for my obligations.

I didn't take life for granted. I learned lessons from 2007 Was Actually A Bad Year, The Year Was 2007, and Top Ten Wisdom Acquired In 2007 I Failed To Follow. The Dec 2020-Jan 2021 vacation was the correct 2007 Summer Sabbatical.

Update On A Past Blog

I want to update three blogs I wrote in Apr 2019 with a COVID-19 pandemic perspective. The first blog is The Homeless People Rolled Too Many Snake Eyes written on Apr 8, 2019. I wrote more homeless people are not the stereotypical losers and laziness. There are too few opportunities for the homeless people. The fewer opportunities, the fewer chances to find shelter and to find a good paying job. I can rewrite the title to "The Homeless People Have Fewer Chances To Roll The Dice." The fewer opportunities, the fewer chances to roll the dice.

The second blog is Global Fatigue written on Apr 14, 2019. I wrote we're tired because there is too much to do. I have low confidence the world recovers from global fatigue during the pandemic. I have low confidence the world is ready for normal life pre-pandemic. Most people recovered from global fatigue incorrectly. The pandemic fatigue replaced the pre-pandemic global fatigue. No fatigue recovered.

The third blog is Win A Few, Lose A Lot written on Apr 27, 2019. I wrote the opposite of the common success wisdom "win a few, lose a few" is true. There are less people winning the fewer and more people losing a lot more during the pandemic such as unemployment, businesses shutting down, homelessness, and fewer opportunities to satisfy the global overpopulation.

No Time To Plan

I was a person who must have a plan to complete tasks years ago. Research. Get information beforehand. Think it through. Learn it first. Plan ahead.

Sometimes planning ahead works. Sometimes planning ahead is infeasible. There is no time to research. Information is unavailable. Forget thinking. The learning manual is too complex.

I make a judgment call today. Plan ahead or do it now is a case by case basis. It depends on the situation. Sometimes there is no time to plan. Spontaneous planning is required to complete a task. Plan last minute. Immediate action. Learn by trial and error. Use intuition. It's faster to just do it. Do as it goes. There is no shame switching from a plan ahead to no time to plan mindset. There is no lower intelligence the situation calls for no time to plan ahead.

A Dating Tip

I have a better understanding some people prefer to date a spontaneous person; likewise, marry a spontaneous person. Spontaneity adds surprise and excitement to a relationship. Sometimes the unknown adds joy. Spontaneity tests courage--intelligent spontaneity is more accurate.

Update On A Past Blog

The 2018-2019 NFL season started. I was reminded I wrote September, The Beginning of the End when Sep was the beginning of my calendar year instead of Jan. Sep was the month my school year began and temperatures began to cool down. I take back Sep begins my new calendar year. One reason is school years begin in Aug before Labor Day. I'm with the crowd. Jan begins my new calendar year. If the past year was a bad year, then Jan is a fresh start. If the past year was a good year, then Jan continues the good year momentum to make the upcoming year better. New Year's Day is not just another day. New Year's Day can be a beginning.

Top Ten Daily Changes After O'Connor Hospital

I was an impatient in a hospital on Apr 2017 for the first time in my life. I was diagnosed with Acute Gallstone Pancreatitis. I needed two surgeries. The first surgery removed gallstones or Endoscopic Retrograde Cholangio Pancreatography (ERCP). The second surgery removed my gallbladder or Laparoscopic Cholecystectomy. I stayed in O'Connor Hospital for five days and four nights.

Taking time away from daily routines can be good. Examples of taking time away are a vacation, a sabbatical, a temporary assignment or task, and being an inpatient in a hospital. Sometimes taking time away changes daily routines. There are new routines. There are routines no longer needed. There are existing routines improved. There is a new outlook on routines big and small. New wisdom, stronger, smarter, and growth can happen.

Here are the top ten daily changes after O'Connor Hospital. The daily changes also happened during my recovery period at home.

10. Drink Less Water. Common knowledge says humans should drink eight glasses of water a day. It doesn't apply to my body.

9. Browse Less Online. No more checking Amazon's Deal Of The Day. No more checking Kickstarter.

8. Read Personal Email Daily. I read all email once a day instead of reading all my lower priority emails once a week.

7. New Jobs Search Schedule. I continue job searching two times every weekday. I switch job searching some websites from the afternoon to the evening and vice versa. I started applying for Business Systems Analyst as long as I qualify for 50% of the job requirements. I brought back the Sun morning job search.

6. New Dental Care. Good hygiene prevents health problems. I change my cup once a week instead of once every two weeks when I brush my teeth. I use a Waterpix. I brought back proxabrushes.

I have a heighten importance to practice good dental care when my welcome inpatient basket included mouthwash, toothbrush, and toothpaste. O'Connor Hospital knows dental care is important to prevent spreading bacteria. I brushed my teeth two times a day. I rinsed my mouth with mouthwash when my mouth felt dirty.

5. Spend Extra Money Eating Out. There are times I must eat out. There is no spending limit when I eat at restaurants. Health, energy, and focus are priority when I'm out of the house. I avoid getting sick due to fatigue.

4. I have a new respect for medical personnel which includes doctors, nurses, and technicians. I already have a respect for first responders and engineers.

3. New Podcast Schedule. Podcasts are off when I job search. I listen to podcasts driving, cooking, and cleaning the house.

2. R-E-L-A-X. Take it easy on weekends. Everyone needs a break. I stopped my sense of urgency getting a job. Take it slow. Take small steps. Increment. Add all the little things something big happens.

No more personal projects on weekends. Weekend gym workouts are allowed if I missed a weekday gym day. The Sun job search is brief.

1. Understand Personal Responsibility. The inpatient or outpatient has a responsibility to help medical personnel do their jobs. In other words, help the medical personnel to help me. Make it easier for them to take care of me. Keep them informed any changes. I take care of myself when I can take care of myself. Patient responsibility is an example of personal responsibility.

Soon To Be Employed

Many of us know what we need to do in life to live our longest. Get eight hours of sleep, eat three meals a day, avoid sugar snacks, exercise three days a week, eat fruits, eat vegetables, read a book, learn something new, and spend time for yourself. There are lots more to living long.

I have infinite free time currently. I'm unemployed, and I have no family to take care of, nobody dependent, and no high priorities. I have plenty of time to eat healthy, to exercise, and to read books. I have plenty of time to think what I want to do with my life. I have plenty of time to take life easy (that should be the way of life). I have plenty of time to be me, to be myself, my time. I'm not going to take the infinite free time for granted because one day I'm going back to work.

I find a job one day. My life changes quickly the moment I start working again with new priorities and new responsibilities. I have less time for myself. I have a better understanding for people who work full time and have a family. They are busy at work earning income for food and clothing and busy at home taking care of their family. Something has to be given up. Family gets high priority.

Life is going faster and faster even during the global economic recession. There is so much more in life we have more to know, more to learn, more responsibilities, more choices, more priorities, yet there are still 24 hours a day. And what if I have a family? Well, I'm not thinking about that now. Too much to think about.

Side Note: I'm also thinking about going back to school full time. My major is undecided.

No Excuses

I read "No More Excuses Can Be Found For This Team" by Ann Killion on the San Jose Sharks in the San Jose Mercury News newspaper Thur Apr 30. I watched none of the Sharks playoff games so I relied on the newspaper. One paragraph reminded me of my 2007 year: Wednesday morning was the culmination of an exit that began—let's be truthful—in February, as the Sharks began their prolonged stumble into the playoffs. There were plenty of warning signs that things weren't right, but all were happy to ignore because This Was The Year! In March 2007, I started working at Cisco. My thinking for 2007 was a good year no matter what happens. I worked at Cisco. My life was happy. Everyone was happy to at least have Cisco in their resumes. I ignored or shrugged anything bad because I worked at Cisco that was huge because I hated working at Colliers International. Nothing was worse than Colliers at the time. I admitted 2007 was actually a bad year from the blog 2007 Was Actually A Bad Year. I was happy to ignore the bad moments, and there were plenty such as inconsistent workouts at the gym, summer sabbatical was a bust, and no vacation (Anime Expo'07 was not considered a vacation). Also, the books I read were boring. Thank goodness I'm reading fiction today. The first day at Cisco was the day 2007 started going downhill. Why? I already mentioned I ignored the bad moments and I denied many of the bad moments. Another reason is I took 2007 for granted. I took life for granted. My life was carefree. I worked at Cisco and 2007 was to be a good year. Anything happened thereafter for the rest of 2007 I didn't care because I worked at Cisco. I wanted 2005-2007 to be good years—three straight good years in a row that never happened before in my life. Today, I'm growing up. 2007 is a lesson. Never take life for granted. Never ignore and never deny problems. I must earn what I want in life. No more naming years such as 2007 was "The Year I Prepare For The Big Break Part II." No more Dec 31 yearly reviews. My reviews are done daily, weekly, or even hourly because I innovate constantly, identify problems, and correct my mistakes. I'm growing up Finding Raymond Mar

Did You Have A Great Vacation?

What is the number one criteria to determine your vacation was great? Smooth airplane ride? Car drove perfectly? No mistakes with reservations? Nobody sick? Under budget? No delays? Hundreds of pictures? All true, and not the number one criteria.

The number one criteria is nothing changed at work. On your last day before going on vacation, you finish up your last minute assignments, you set up for the new assignments when you get back, you activate your email out of office response, you set up your voice mail to vacation mode, and your inbox is empty. Then you go on vacation. You forget about work. You briefly check voice mail and email depending on your position.

The vacation is over. You’re back at work. The inbox is full again. The emails are in the hundreds. There are at least 10 voice mail messages. The co-workers ask, “How was your vacation?” Your boss is still grumpy, LOL. Think and pause for a minute. Work is still the same. Your vacation was great XD

Summer Of 2001 In 2007

Summer 2001 was one of the most fun summers in my life. I visited Reno and San Diego, learned how to play craps, and played lots of role playing games and board games. Summer 2003 and Summer 2005 were also fun summers. I mention Summer 2001 in particular because I did no work outside my company. I read no books related to my job. I didn’t worry about work. Work was at work. My outside work was to relax and have fun.

Recently, I realized I forgot who I am and how I have fun. I have been working at Cisco for 11 weeks. Time flies fast. 2007 is the fastest year ever in my life. It seems everywhere I go and everyone I know we are moving faster than the speed of sound. I focused way too much on Cisco to make a good impression.

Starting today after work, I’m going on a Summer Sabbatical 2007. I neglected almost all my activities and my needs outside work including gym, my Blog, and my webpage. I’m going to take it easy, relax, be patient, slow down, and have some fun. For starters, I’m watching anime during my lunch hour just like I did in 2005. My goal is to reset myself, be energized, and learn more about me and how to live my life.

If I’m required at work to learn something new and I need to do it outside work immediately, then I do it. I can’t slack off too much *hee, hee* Crystal Reports and SQL are delayed. I continue learning in September. I did learn Acrobat 6.0 Professional last month XD

I think everyone must take a Summer Sabbatical. The world needs to slow down.
