A Half Day Visit To Sacramento To Pick Up A New Car

My dad and I assisted my brother and his family to pick up a new car in Sacramento, CA. Sacramento is the capital of California. The request for help came at the last minute. My dad and I rushed to my brother's house.

The weather throughout the day was heavy rain. We drove an alternate route to Sacramento driving along the Sacramento River, passing by tiny towns, driving over multiple bridges, and seeing wetlands. The alternate route was new sights for me. We arrived at the car dealership one hour late from our appointment. The dealership was busy. Customer parking was difficult. There were problems with the paperwork as expected. We ate hamburgers for a late lunch. We drove the main freeways back home at the end of the day.

The purpose of the blog is the sights around the Sacramento Arden-Arcade neighborhood area. I'm reminded of the suburbs or rural areas when I visited Oregon and Washington. Moreover, the suburbs or rural areas are similar in other states such as Oklahoma, Ohio, Arkansas, and Texas intuitively speaking. There are no sidewalks, no drainage, and no streetlights in one residential area. Most of the homes were spread out with big yards. All residential streets and all traffic streets are narrower compared to the greater Bay Area. There are no three lane or four lane streets. The retail stores architecture are 1950s and 1960s intuitively speaking. If there are any suburbs or rural areas in the greater Bay Area, then either I don't know or they don't have the suburb or rural feeling in the air.

A Wisdom Reminder

If it doesn't matter a year from now, then forget about it.

Donuts And Harry Potter Christmas

I thought about two going back to the past moments for Christmas Day on Christmas Eve. The first moment was going back in time when my family and I visited my grandparent's house on my mom's side in Santa Barbara, CA. Grandfather purchased donuts at Winchell's Donuts House for his grandchildren. The second moment was Harry Potter. I read the series three times. Author J.K. Rowling included chapters taking place on Christmas Day. I accomplished the two moments on Christmas Day below.

I woke up at 7:30am to purchase donuts at a ma and pa donut shop one mile away. I purchased glaze, vanilla, chocolate, old fashion, and French Culler donuts. Each family member ate two donuts.

I read the Harry Potter Christmas Day chapters. The chapters are SS ch 12 The Mirror Of Erised, COS ch 12 The Polyjuice Potion, POA ch 11 The Firebolt, GOF ch 23 The Yule Ball, OOTP ch 23 Christmas On The Closed Ward, HPB ch 16 A Very Frosty Christmas, and DH ch 16 Godric's Hollow. I included a bonus chapter DH ch 17 Bathilda's Secret which happened on the same night. DH took place on Christmas Eve.

Black Friday 2022

There was one Black Friday 2022 shopping on Fri Nov 25. Most of my Black Friday shopping was online. I picked up most of my orders at the retail stores. All retail stores online and offline offered fewer Black Friday deals during the Thanksgiving week. Black Friday 2022 was my worse Black Friday since I started shopping Black Friday in 2004. One Cyber Monday 2022 purchase was cheaper than Black Friday 2022.

Tue Nov 22

Samsung 256GB FIT Plus USB 3.1 flash drive at NewEgg. The flash drive was backordered.

Thur Nov 24

Two Head & Shoulders 23.7oz shampoo bottles purchased online at Walgreens.

A three pack Calvin Klein classic boxers underwear purchased online at Kohl's.

Workout socks, casual socks, and two performance shorts purchased online at Under Armour. Socks and shorts were delivered.

Hotel Collection 500 thread count Micro Cotton Queen bed set purchased online at Macy's.

Fri Nov 25

Two Sara Lee frozen pound cakes at Grocery Outlet. The family went back in time when we ate Sara Lee pound cake at my grandparent's house in Santa Barbara, CA. The price wasn't Black Friday pricing. The price has been the same afterwards.

Sun Nov 27

Selected video games in the Valve Complete Pack for my Steam account. The purchase completed my Valve Complete Pack.

Mon Nov 28

Vanicream 3.9oz soap purchased online at Walgreens. The store I selected for pickup fulfilled half my order.

Hotel Collection 500 thread count Micro Cotton Queen bed set purchased online at Macy's for the second time. The Cyber Monday sale price was cheaper than the Black Friday sale price. It was the first time I experienced Cyber Monday cheaper than Black Friday. The Black Friday purchase must be returned when I picked up my Cyber Monday purchase. I couldn't refuse pick up.

Update On A Past Blog

The San Francisco Giants backed out of the 13-year, $350 million contract offer with all-start shortstop Carlos Correa. The Giants cancelled the introductory press conference on Tue Dec 20. Correa signed a 12-year, $315 million contract with the New York Mets later in the day. A professional sports media opinion said the Giants can't sign superstars. The Giants can't sign all-star talent. The Giants becoming a cheap franchise is debatable. Was the Giants feeling buyer's remorse?

The Giants are risk-adverse. The Giants are the runner ups. The Giants are the big free agents' second choice: Carlos Rodon, Kodai Senga, Carlos Correa, Aaron Judge, Brandon Nimmo, Dansby Swanson, Bryce Harper, Shohei Ohtani, and Giancarlo Stanton. The second choice reminded me of the blog I Can't Win The Freedom Championship written on Jul 18, 2021. The Giants can't win the big prize free agent(s) for whatever reasons.

Winners Attract

I dreamed last night I played for a Major League Soccer (MLS) team. The season started. My position was midfielder. I started four games. I was substituted in the second half of the fourth game. Our record started 0-4. The fourth game was played in a gigantic tavern with the soccer field in the middle of the tavern. There was a giant flat screen TV above one side of the field against a wall from the high ceiling. The bar and individual chairs aligned one side of the field. It was a dream for which some parts make no sense.

I was benched for the next five games. I was not substituted in the game. I asked questions from the fourth game to the ninth game. I asked teammates on the bench. I asked the head coach. It was information and intelligence gathering why we lost the first four games and more games thereafter. The answers made me angry. The team didn't practice between games. Poor coaching staff. Ownership didn't care. Low morale. Little teamwork. Nobody wanted to talk to me outside my information and intelligence gathering.

I practiced on my own after the fifth game. I drilled kicks. I worked out in the gym to increase strength, speed, and endurance. The hard work paid off. I was substituted in the second half of the tenth game. I scored a goal. I started on the eleventh game. I scored three goals or a hat trick. The three goals were easy scores in the open because the opposition underestimated me.

One teammate initiated a conversation with me after the game. He was concerned I overachieved. I didn't worry about being released. The fan base started to support me after the hat trick. Ownership didn't want bad public relations if the team released me.

Game twelve I scored an assist. I didn't know I scored a fifth goal because I woke up.

My point of the dream is people who are winners attract other people. Confidence attracts. Strength attracts. Initiative attracts. Intelligence attracts. Communication attracts. Self-esteem attracts. Motivation attracts. Good people attract.

A Second Look At 2021

It's the time I look back at my 2021 blogs to give myself feedback. The goals delaying one year are relearning from my mistakes, reinforcing my lessons, reminding myself my moments, refreshing acquired knowledge, rediscovering new wisdom, correcting errant blogs, and sharing changes. The ten blogs are also the 2021 best blogs.

1. A 46 Year Old Mind And Spirit Inside A 13 Year Old Body
Date: Sat Jan 9
Summary: I dreamed I was the captain of my co-ed basketball team in junior high school.
Feedback: I can't explain my feeling I need to take charge more in life. I take charge inside the household, outside the household, any group of people, and any situation nothing is happening. Making the decisions and making the choices are the first time I step up. I'm the person to speak up. If nothing happens, then I accept it. The absolute minimum is I done something. I create action. Success or failure doesn't matter. Start small. Climb up the ladder slowly and surely.

2. No On The Job Training For Excel. Also No Classes On How To Use A PC. Better Know How To Type.
Date: Tue Jun 29
Summary: More jobs require more prerequisites, additional acquired knowledge, and higher self-taught skills.
Feedback: More white collar professions self-training and self-learning are required because there is more technology to know, more technology to learn, and more knowledge to acquire. There is not enough time in an education setting to teach everything. Perhaps, blue collar professions, too, such as auto mechanics self-training and self-learning are required to get an interview.

High schools and colleges should be increasing the number of classes require to graduate. There is more to learn. There is more technology to learn. Otherwise, a student is responsible for himself or herself to self-teach anything important for success not taught in school.

I remember an Excel assignment in Accounting 1C class at De Anza College. Half of the class didn't finish the assignment because their Excel skills were poor. High school students should learn basic spreadsheet skills.

3. Throwback Blog: A Mixed Bag Of Everything
Date: Wed Jun 30
Summary: I took a second look at Aug 2006.
Feedback: The month Aug 2006 summarized most of the year 2006.

I said most of the happiness was faked. I was depressed most of the year. I was unhappy most of the year. They are incorrect. I take them back. 2006 was a good year. I admit I could have done a better job to make 2006 a better year. For instance, I mentioned, ". . . I could have done such as find a new job, self-teach myself Excel correctly, and research gym workout plans." The positives outweighed the negatives. The 2006 happiness was good.

I forgot my grandmother on my dad's side past away in Jul 2006. I visit my grandparents on my dad's side at least once a year.

A simple, sarcastic, and wise quote from a friend must be repeated. Barnes said, "Enjoy it or complain."

4. The Look
Date: Tue Aug 10
Summary: I dreamed I was in a contest to put puzzle pieces together inspired me a person's looks show who he or she is.
Feedback: I stand by my opinion with 98% accuracy. We always judge people by their looks. We always judge people by their appearances. The judgements are 98% accurate. The 2% are the exceptions.

The day Thur Dec 1, 2022 convinced me to add The Look on A Second Look. I shopped at a grocery store and a drugstore. The grocery store cashier and the drugstore store manager looked like they don't belong in retail. They belong in tech. Something happened in their pasts they are desperate for any job. The cashier job and the store manager job are the best jobs they found. Underachievers? Maybe. Bad luck? Maybe. Unfortunate circumstances? Likely.

5. A Loser Is Pissed At People Who Screw It Up
Date: Sun Aug 22
Summary: I expressed anger some winners self-destruct their good lives.
Feedback: People like me are false losers. False losers are doing their best to live a good life. We prepare for the next opportunity. We continue to get stronger, get smarter, and get wiser. There is no complaining. We appreciate life. We take care of ourselves inside and outside. Spending is controlled. The false losers are hidden. Nobody talks about the false losers because we're losers.

The real losers are the people who screw up their freedom. The real losers take life for granted. The real losers fail to maintain and to strengthen their successes. Sometimes the real losers become losers by the sign of the times or too many down on their lucks. It's unfortunate. Some real losers are losers through no fault of their own. It's life.

6. I Was Lonely, I Fell Through The Cracks, Everyone Let Me Go
Date: Tue Sep 14
Summary: I recalled my teachers and my managers failed to help my learning problems.
Feedback: I use the feedback to address my youngest nephew in pre-kindergarten who cries. I cried many times in pre-school. It's part of growing up. Be patient. Don't give up parents. Don't quit. Teach your children. Be tough and be fair when rough parenting are in play.

7. Algebra II Math Intuition
Date: Sun Oct 17
Summary: I dreamed I took an Algebra II exam in high school for which one question the answer was unequal or no answer.
Feedback: I trusted my intuition to conclude the proof question was unequal. Trust intuition. No analysis paralysis. Sometimes there is no solution. If there is no solution, then no solution is correct.

"I began to realize that an intuitive understanding and consciousness was more significant than abstract thinking and intellectual logical analysis . . . intuition is a very powerful thing, more powerful than intellect, in my opinion. That's had a big impact on my work." --Steve Jobs

The third blog from my dreams in A Second Look 2021.

8. The 1992 Presidential Election Bill Clinton At San Jose State University
Date: Thur Oct 28
Summary: Impatience cost me an opportunity to attend an once-in-a-lifetime presidential rally.
Feedback: I remember the Paul McCartney concert at AT&T Park in Jul 2010. His band was significantly late. It was intentional. Fans waited longer. The longer the wait, the more excitement the audience became when the band played. Life wisdom. If you need to wait for the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, then take the wait.

9. Celebrities Are Assholes Because We're Assholes
Date: Sun Nov 28
Summary: The second look is an update on a past blog Today Is A Lucky Day I Count My Blessings written on Feb 23, 2020 when I realized I became a genius.
Feedback: Focus is good; however, don't focus too much. Can't finish it today? There's always tomorrow. If you need a break, then do something else constructive. Don't want to finish it? Delay when you feel refreshed or quit when it's a no go. On the other hand, don't delay or quit because of laziness. Incomplete work is not to be submitted. Wait for the work to be completed; although, half-ass is better than nothing. Make the intelligent judgment.

10. My Six Guarantees
Date: Sat Dec 11
Summary: The six guarantees in no particular order are death, taxes, everyone is weird, everyone changes, everyone has problems, and there are 24 hours a day and seven days a week.
Feedback: If there are awards for blog of the year, then I nominate the blog. I refer to the blog more times in the future.

The following blogs are honorable mentions: Everybody Doesn't Manage and Have The Courage To Be Sincerely Happy.

Today Is Not Your Parent's Or Grandparent's Days

Blogger's note: Today's blog is edited minimally for grammar.

Sometimes the old ways are still the best ways. Nothing beats the classics. They don't make them like they did in the past. These are common wisdom comparing life today and life yesterday. Sometimes the common wisdom is true. Sometimes the common wisdom is false. Today is the present. Today is not your parent's or grandparent's days.

The stock market is changed. There are new techniques to invest in companies. Artificial intelligence analyzes the data. Algorithms make the choice to buy or to sell. Forget fundamentals. Forget the statistics. Forget the financial statements. Follow the money. WallStreetBets opened eyes on new investing. Time will tell decentralized finance is the best global economy. I'm not a licensed financial advisor. I'm not giving financial advice.

I'm not a professional handyman. I see new tools at hardware stores. I see improved parts for plumbers and for electricians. Automobiles are getting smarter with computers operating engines for fuel efficiently.

Computer programming changed. Anyone can learn Python. More jobs require more skills. More skills require more time. More time requires less time outside the workplace. Costs go up for more training. There are engineers who know both hardware and software. More full-time employees require technical skills. Fewer full-time employees work 40 hours a week.

Professional sports changed. Baseball is adapting new rules to speed up the games. Football is adapting new rules to protect players from injuries. Basketball is being revolutionized with three-point shooting since 2015. There are more overtime games in hockey playoffs. All professional sports rely more on computers analyzing players.

Forget telephones. People carry cell phones everywhere 24/7. People may need to carry a barf bag when listening to today's music. The movie writers seem to be out of new ideas. We're seeing more remakes, additional sequels, and unheard prequels. There are too many cable channels in television. Households were happy with clear signals decades ago.

There are more pandemics. There are more problems in the economy--maybe more recessions. There are more wildfires because of climate change. I'm looking forward for summer rains in the Northern Hemisphere. There are fewer uses for military soldiers. There are greater uses for hackers. The keyboard is stronger than the gun.

More people are going to be sick. Families with newborns are out of the hospital at the end of the day. My Laparoscopic Cholecystectomy which removed my gallbladder in Apr 2017 could have been an outpatient appointment. I was hospitalized with Acute Gallstone Pancreatitis. A Laparoscopic Cholecystectomy required inpatient care decades ago.

Board gamers recognize The Settlers of Catan, Dominion, Ticket To Ride, Pandemic, and Carcassonne as the modern classic board games. Few board gamers talk about Monopoly, Life, Clue, and Sorry.

Fortunately, there are TV stations broadcasting classic movies, radio stations playing classic rock, book stores selling classic literature, the website Internet Archive, and YouTube watching videos of our parent's and grandparent's days.

The parent's or grandparent's days may be irrelevant today. The parent's or grandparent's days are remembered forever.

A Melancholy 2022 Thanksgiving Holiday

Chances are many people experienced a rusty 2022 Thanksgiving weekend. The expectations were high. The holiday was an underachievement. People wanted a Thanksgiving miracle all is better. Many people forgot how to behave. Many people either forgot what Thanksgiving meant or thought about something else.

There was too much on many people's minds they couldn't stop thinking. There were too many worries. There were too many problems. They thought there was not enough time. There was not enough time to relax. Break time was too little. The holiday went by too fast. The time feeling didn't slow down. People needed more time to take a breath.

People felt unsatisfactory during the final hours of Sun Nov 27, 2022. The holiday failed to meet expectations. There were disappointments. A minority of people shopped successfully on Black Friday. Learn from the mistakes for the 2022 Christmas holiday. Make adjustments for the 2022 Christmas holiday. Don't take the next holiday for granted.

Update On A Past Blog

I remember my first week of the Winter 2010 Quarter at De Anza College. I wrote, "Many students and even my teachers were tired and continued to be in adjust mode after the holidays" from De Anza Week Jan 4, 2010 written on Jan 7, 2010. I remember many students including myself and many teachers were unsatisfied with the 2009 Christmas holiday. 2009 was a year during the Great Recession. Nobody wanted to be at school.

Five More Minutes To Prevent Problems

I dreamed last night I traveled to a Riichi Mahjong gathering. I drove southbound on Saratoga Ave making a left on eastbound Stevens Creek Blvd in San Jose, CA during the early evening. I drove on Stevens Creek Blvd passing a Japanese Daiso-like store at the Barnes & Noble bookstore building. I entered the store to purchase ramen. I asked the cashier for chopsticks. The cashier gave me half a sandwich instead. I woke up.

I thought about the point of last night's dream awake. I made up the point of the dream I should have paused for five minutes. I should have taken an extra five minutes to go home. Why should have I gone home? The answer was I needed a better jacket. The evening forecast was cold temperatures. Another reason was get better food. Eating ramen was insufficient calories. Eating ramen was insufficient energy to focus on Mahjong. If there was no food at home, then I shopped at a market. The minimum beef jerky, bread, banana, and bottle water were better than ramen.

Take five more minutes to minimize the chances of anticipated problems for the rest of the day or evening.

Update On A Past Blog

A common concern is children interacting with technology too much. I wrote the concern on the blog Reflecting And Connecting Both Technology And My Childhood on Jan 16, 2017. Many parents are stressed. They need a break. They need quiet. They need to destress. Their children are second priority for the short time. Let the children look at the smartphone. Let the children play the handheld console. Let the children press the video game controller. Give parents their peace.

No Mulligan, No Do-Over, No Second Chance Going Back To San Jose State University

Today's blog is what if I take back my top mulligan from my life mulligans.

Update On A Past Blog

I wrote Top Ten My Life Mulligans on Mar 12, 2016. My number one mulligan is graduating with an accounting degree instead of an economics degree at San Jose State University (SJSU). I explore what if not doing a second chance going back to college. The short answer is too easy. Going back to SJSU is not real. I don't earn it. I admit reliving the 1990s correctly is the best opportunity to establish a solid baseline to become successful instead of being George Constanza unemployed and living with my parents. I also admit how I live my life mulligan is subjective; for example, do I relive the mulligan with the knowledge I know or do I relive the mulligan as if I never experienced SJSU graduating with an economics degree? I don't know the correct answer. I took a time machine back to my first day at SJSU without disrupting the time continuum. I blog the logical timeline the best I can.

My first semester I changed my major from mathematics to accounting. The degree change disrupted everything. I didn't need to take one computer science class. I didn't need to take three physics classes. I didn't need to take math classes calculus and above.

My second semester I didn't take volleyball on Tuesdays and Thursdays. It was stupid to drive to SJSU for one class. I could have realized I scheduled my classes for at least one day off a week. Also, I chose a new primary parking garage to park. If I parked at a new primary parking garage, then I didn't get a traffic ticket in front of the initial parking garage. And there is no volunteering for the Student California Teacher's Association which is the student version of the California Teacher's Association.

I concentrated on general education classes during my first year except for Calculus I during my second semester. I might have switched Calculus I for Accounting 1. All of the semesters thereafter were unknown because I took accounting classes for my major and economic classes for my minor. Maybe I double major in accounting and economics. My GPA went up continuously when I changed majors from mathematics to economics.

I had courage to take advantage of student services. I used their workout facilities to exercise. I read more books for which I buy used books at their library used bookstore. I watched more movies checking out movies at the library. I purchased condoms at the Student Health Center. I joined the anime club in my junior year.

I corrected my mistakes outside the SJSU campus. I focused less time studying because grades were overrated. I used the free time socializing. I find a part time job to improve my college resume. I learned basic stock investing outside the classroom. I quit piano. I watched less TV.

There was a drawback majoring in accounting. I didn't take my Economics Writing Workshop class. The professor taught my writing style today. Another drawback was a possibility I didn't get first day class registration priority. I was diagnosed with a learning disability on my third semester. Students with learning disabilities were given first day class registration priority. My English 1B professor submitted a request to the Disabled Services Center to be tested because I had reading problems.

In conclusion, reliving my SJSU years and reliving my 20s were too easy. Maybe thinking about life mulligans are a waste of time. Nobody can't go back to the past to correct mistakes.

Some Parents Can't Teach Their Children

Parents are people. Parents are human beings. Some people can't teach to save their lives. If teaching is a requirement to become a parent, then there are fewer families.

There are multiple reasons why. The reasons are valid or invalid. I let the reader make the choice. I put my parents on the spotlight. Sometimes they fake knowing the questions asked. My parents don't want to be embarrassed they don't know enough. They're ashamed of their ignorance. They're lazy to learn what they don't know. They're lazy to research for a deeper understanding. My parents don't take responsibility teaching me and my siblings the basics. The school system is responsible.

My parents are poor teachers. They can't teach and do both at the same time. Sometimes they avoid our questions because they're afraid they teach us wrong. Unfortunately, most of what they actually taught is wrong. I unlearned and released their incorrect teachings myself. My parents are slow teachers when they taught us. Their teaching is boring.

One of my philosophies is the chances of a good week starts with a good Monday. I wrote Monday is an important day at The Philosophies Of Raymond Mar 3 on May 25, 2014. I reinforced a good Monday at The Philosophies Of Raymond Mar Which Changed on Oct 21, 2016. Sometimes the Sunday day is the start of a good week. The chances of a good calendar week starts with a good calendar Sunday. For example, devote more time to rest, complete outstanding errands, prepare the upcoming week responsibilities, and relax.

Shelter In-Place COVID-19 Blog October 2022

California issued shelter in-place orders on Tue Mar 17, 2020. I have been logging the highlights and lowlights. Early Black Friday sales were seen in stores and in advertisements like 2021. The Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV) is part of the COVID-19 headlines. On the other hand, headlines for the COVID-19 winter surge were minimal; although, I suspect many people aren't reporting their positive results. I received my omicron booster.

Mon Oct 3. The Norwegian Cruise Line ended all COVID-19 testing, masking, and vaccination requirements starting on Tue Oct 4. However, passengers must follow local government COVID-19 protocols in each country.

The Center For Disease Control (CDC) no longer maintained travel advisories outside the United States related to COVID-19. The reason is fewer countries are testing or reporting COVID-19 cases. Less information makes accurate assessments difficult. The CDC releases a notice if a country experiences a COVID-19 variant. International travelers should update their vaccinations and minimize the chances of infection.

Wed Oct 5. I assisted my dad's friend hauling junk.

Fri Oct 7. I shopped at Safeway and Costco first thing in the morning. The crowds were bigger than I expected at both stores.

Sun Oct 9. Another omicron subvariant was discovered in CA. The BA.2.75.2 was detected at Stanford University and in Los Angeles County. The subvariant is immune to current vaccines which means a higher chance of getting infected. The BF.7 is another subvariant which caused a surge in Europe.

FL Surgeon General Joseph Ladapo recommended males age 18-39 don't receive the mRNA COVID-19 vaccine. Ladapo said there is an increase risk of cardiac-related death.

Mon Oct 10. More cities in China were locked down. Travel restrictions imposed. The daily COVID-19 cases tripled. People were discouraged from leaving their cities and provinces. Hohhot prohibited vehicles and passengers from the outside starting on Tue Oct 11.

Small businesses employing between 1 and 25 workers in Alameda County were eligible for grant money for losses or increase costs due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Grants up to $5,000 for home-based businesses or up to $10,000 for brick & mortar businesses. The American Rescue Plan funded the grant money.

Tue Oct 11. The White House announced there are not enough COVID-19 tests for the upcoming winter season. White House COVID-19 Response Coordinator Dr. Ashish Jha said there are enough personal protective equipment for doctors and nurses. There is more money spent on vaccine dosages. There is less money spent on tests. Congress didn't pass legislation allocating more money to combat COVID-19. The CDC said 35% of eligible people received the booster.

The US daily average of deaths was 400.

Wed Oct 12. The Food And Drug Administration (FDA) authorized the updated COVID-19 booster shots or bivalent shots for children. The Pfizer is authorized for children ages 5-11. The Modern is authorized for children ages 6-11. The bivalent consists of 50% targeting the original strain and 50% targeting the omicron BA.4 and BA.5. 75% of Americans 12 and older are eligible for the bivalent because they received the initial vaccinations. 13 million Americans received the bivalent. 33% of American children ages 5-11 received the initial vaccinations.

Thur Oct 13. The US COVID-19 public health emergency continues through Jan 11, 2023. The emergency is renewed every 90 days. The first declaration was Jan 2020. The declaration gives COVID-19 vaccines, testing, and treatments for free. Medicaid coverage is expanded. Medicare recipients can access their doctors using telehealth. There is a 60 day notice before the public health emergency ends.

Fri Oct 14. The COVID-19 variants BQ.1 and BQ.1.1 are derived from the BA.5. 10% of US cases were BQ.1 and BQ.1.1. These immune-evasive variants are emerging from other parts of the world.

Mon Oct 17. CA Governor Gavin Newsom announced the state coronavirus emergency ends on Feb 28, 2023. The health care system remains in an emergency state for a possible winter surge. Newsom declared the emergency on Mar 4, 2020. 95,000 people died in the state. All of Newsom's pandemic executive orders end on Feb 28, 2023. Public health orders are not affected.

Wed Oct 19. The FDA authorized the Novavax COVID-19 vaccine as a third dose or booster for adults ages 18 or older. Novavax can be mixed with either Pfizer or Moderna. The vaccine protects against the omicron BA.5. The Novavax vaccine is administered six months after the two primary vaccines.

Stanford University lifts the mask requirements in classrooms and on campus on Mon Oct 24. Instructors can require masks in their classrooms.

67.9% of cases were the BA.5 in the US. The other cases were BA.4.6, BQ.1, BQ.1.1 and BF.7. BA.4.6 was increasing. The BQ and the BF were spreading in Europe.

The CDC authorized the Novavax COVID-19 vaccine booster for adults ages 18 or older.

Thur Oct 20. I received my bivalent shot. Waiting 15 minutes afterwards was optional. There were no lines. I shopped at Costco Business Center afterwards.

The CDC added the COVID-19 vaccine to the recommended immunization schedule in 2023 for children and adults. The recommendation didn't mean the COVID-19 vaccine is mandatory. The recommendation didn't mean the COVID-19 vaccine is required for school admission.

Fri Oct 21. Shopped at Grocery Outlet and Costco. Costco was busy at the 10am hour. Muffins are $10.

Sat Oct 22. CDC director Dr. Rochelle Walensky tested positive for COVID-19. She is up-to-date on her vaccinations. Mild symptoms.

Mon Oct 24. The CDC changed quarantine and isolation guidelines in Aug 2022. A review. If a person is exposed or experiencing symptoms, then he or she take multiple in-home COVID-19 tests for two days afterwards. Wear a mask. Isolate for five days if tested positive or feel sick. Day 0 is the first day of symptoms. A health care provider can prescribe treatments within five days. End isolation after five days without a fever, no medications taken, and no symptoms; however, wear a mask for ten days. Continue isolation after five days if no improvements or as long as it takes to recover.

The COVID-19 pandemic is blamed for declining fourth grade and eighth grade reading and math scores nationwide. Reading scores dropped to 1992 levels. 4 in 10 eighth graders failed basic math. The tests were administered by the National Assessment Of Educational Progress.

75% of pediatric hospital beds in the US were full according to the Department Of Health & Human Services. The reason is RSV. RSV can be life threatening to infants and young children with health underlying conditions.

Tue Oct 25. A 5.1 magnitude earthquake struck at 11:42am centered in the East San Jose area.

The omicron variant XBB detected in Singapore is an international concern.

President Joe Biden received his updated booster shot.

British Medical Journal's Heart published a study people with COVID-19 are 2.7 times more likely to develop blood clots. People hospitalized with COVID-19 are 28 times more likely to suffer heart failure and 17 times more likely to get a stroke.

Wed Oct 26. Shanghai in China administered an inhalable COVID-19 vaccine. The vaccine is a mist sucked in through the mouth. There is no vaccine mandates in China.

Dr. Jha said a "tripledemic" threatens the US the upcoming winter consisting of COVID-19, the flu, and RSV.

Fri Oct 28. Shopped at Safeway and Lucky first thing in the morning. One checkout lane was opened in both stores. All of the customers' shopping carts were full in the checkout lane.

All 1.3 residents in the Shanghai district Yangpu in China were being tested. There was a lockdown.

The CDC released a percentage breakdown of the COVID-19 scrabble variants in the US: BA.5 49.6%, BQ.1 14%, BQ.1.1 13%, BA.4.6 10%, and BF.7 7.5%.

Mon Oct 31. CDC director Dr. Rochelle Walensky tested positive for COVID-19 again. Walensky tested positive for the first time on Sat Oct 22, 2022.

The Disney Resort in Shanghai in China is closed indefinitely due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Customers can reschedule up to six months later or receive a refund. Shanghai has 97 cases in the last 28 days. Guests must test negative up to 72 hours before entering the resort.

I Wasn't A Child Genius

I was a worrier. I worried too much when I was a child. I was scared something bad happened when I did something new. I must be assured there were positive outcomes for anything I did. The known positive outcomes I was happy. I did them. The unknown outcomes I worried. I did nothing. A grown-up must be present for anything new.

Ironically, how did I know the positive outcomes? I had to do something new eventually. Also, making mistakes was expected. Albert Einstein said, "A person who never made a mistake never tried anything new." I contradicted myself. I wanted to try anything new for which I didn't do it because I worried. Nobody told me to make mistakes because we learn from mistakes. There was no encouragement. There was no hand holding.

A common trait geniuses possess is cynicism. Geniuses think the world is dying. Geniuses think the world self-destructs. Was my childhood worrier a sign of genius? The quick answer is yes. I worried too much. Was my worrying actually being cynical? The long answer is no when I answer the first question with the second question. I did nothing new. There was no attempt.

Afraid Was The Answer

Afraid was the correct answer in my childhood years. I told everyone I was worried. I was actually afraid. Nobody corrected my emotion. Nobody told me to be brave. Nobody told me to be courageous from the small action answering a phone call to the medium action ordering at McDonalds and to the big action asking a grown-up for help.

I realized I self-trained myself to become a genius in Aug 2019. Geniuses are cynics by nature. I mistakenly connected the dots from today to my childhood. I was neither worried nor cynical in my childhood. I'm either worried or cynical in my present adulthood.

Update On A Past Blog

Another Einstein quote is, "It's not that I'm so smart, it's just that I stay with problems longer." The problems in the quote reminded me of My Six Guarantees blog written on Dec 11, 2021. One of the six guarantees is everyone has problems. I also wrote You Have Problems? So Do I written on Oct 8, 2016. The world has problems. Everyone has problems.

If you don't have problems, then be patient. Life finds a way to give people problems beyond their control.

Four Million Reasons From Twitter

Today's blog is an update on a past blog.

Update On A Past Blog

Elon Musk purchased Twitter for $44B which closed on Fri Oct 28, 2022. All shareholders receive $54.20 per share. Twitter becomes a private company. Musk's first business move was firing CEO Parag Agrawal, CFO Ned Sagal, chief legal affairs Vijaya Gadde, and head general counsel Sean Edgett. Musk played the Steve Jobs card. Jobs fired 25% of the executives and senior managers in his bozo list when he returned to Apple in 1997.

Musk tweeted on Nov 4, 2022 Twitter loses $4M a day. The screenshot above is timestamped today at 3:50pm. Layoffs began on Nov 4, 2022. The recent Twitter events reminds me when I worked at a retail start-up from Nov 2013 to Sep 2014. I blogged Another Start-Up Business Is Out Of Business written on Aug 14, 2021 and Three Years Later Scanners For Bar Codes written on Oct 22, 2020. I mentioned bad management or bad ownership in the first blog. "There are no such thing as bad companies; it's bad management makes companies bad" is a common business knowledge. The business sold high-end wine, beer, and sake at discount prices. Great business idea. Poor business ownership. One example of poor business ownership was the second blog. It took three years for ownership to invest in a barcode system for inventory and sales. Barcodes existed for decades. I mentioned make changes when problems are clear and present. Fix the problems now.

Twitter is a great business idea. Twitter is a social media service for people micro blogging. Musk is doing his best to turnaround Twitter with good ownership and good management solving problems now.

Life Can Go In A Straight Line

Everyone knows life is not a straight line. However, a person can be in a streak of everything is going his or her way. No winding. Life is great. The flow goes his or her way. There are tailwinds. He or she is moving forward positively, and not moving forward after a negative moment. Get everything done. Check off all the checklists. Complete the priorities. Delay the non-important responsibilities. Wait for comfortability. The plan succeeds by following the plan, and no need for the backup plan.

Here's what happened to me. I didn't need to cook on the weekends because I cooked enough meals on Fri for the household. I completed all my planned job trainings. I worked out my physical workouts as scheduled. I watched documentaries. I learned more life skills. I watched my movie of the week. I either watched selected football games or listened to selected football game while completing Sun errands. The rest of the errands were completed in the mornings. There were no new books to read.

There were no emergencies. There were no unexpected events. No diversions. Nothing unplanned happened. Adjustments minimized.

Further, the weather assisted in my life going in a straight line. The summer like mild temperatures dropped to autumn cooler temperatures quickly. The temperatures decreasing wasn't gradual.

I Owe The World By Making A Difference

Today's blog is an update on a past blog.

Update On A Past Blog

I thought about all my past friends and my past co-workers. 95% of them got my backs if anything bad happened. Good people support good people. Good friends support good friends. I failed to realize all 95% supported me. My past friends go as far back as junior high school.

I questioned did I make a difference to the 95% from the blog Did I Make A Difference? written on Jul 7, 2015. I said the 95% made a difference to me. "They made my life better. I'm a better person today."

I failed to be a difference maker to the 95%. I could have been and I should have been a better friend. I have no excuses. I owe the 95% something in return. I don't know what is the something. My feeling tells me the something must be multiple permanent life changers big or small.

I can't explain what I did correctly to earn their friendships. I thank my intuition. Was it I showed up? Was it I listened well? Was it I smiled when they needed a smile? I hope my self-pity didn't attract people.

The minimum owing back the 95% is become stronger. Don't be a jerk. The world needs one less bad person. I assure the 95% and the world I practice personal responsibility. I wrote I Owe The World on Apr 8, 2018 I take care of myself in a positive way such as working hard to earn freedom, stay healthy, and never stop learning.

An Ultimate Life Goal

One of my ultimate life goals is don't live in a nursing home. I want to be independent. Most nursing homes and senior facility care centers are good; in contrast to bad nursing homes and senior facility care centers depicted on news, media, and movies. Some senior citizens depend on nursing homes for medical reasons with all due respect.

I exercise. I move my knees and elbows. I read. I work hard. I also work hard in leisure because work is involved. I seek new adventures. I experience new experiences. I take responsibility. My motivation and my desire are more important than intelligence and knowledge. I hope I'm lucky I don't need to live my final years in a nursing home.

My conclusion is don't be an old fuck. Don't be a grumpy old person. Don't be a person full of criticism. Don't take out my frustrations on others for a terrible less than successful younger life. No regrets. No shame.

Sensing Desperation And Feeling Desperation

My sophomore year in high school could be described in one word. The word was desperation. I sensed desperate. I felt desperate. I acted desperate. It wasn't urgency. I was desperate to keep my friends. I was desperate to get good grades. I was desperate to keep my sanity. Maybe I was lost. The desperation avoided losing myself in a negative way. I didn't have direction in tenth grade.

I wasn't desperate in my freshmen, junior, and senior years. My freshmen and junior years were too easy. I attended another high school in my senior year because my initial high school closed due to budget cuts. I went with the flow. Going with the flow should have been my adult lesson in twelfth grade. I digress.

Adult Desperation

Call it adult desperation. Call it 2022 desperation for government. Call it 2022 desperation for economics. Call it 2022 desperation for businesses. Call it 2022 desperation for long-term pandemic victims. Ironically, I'm long-term unemployed and live with my parents. I look out the window. I sense desperation is clear and present. I run errands outside. I feel desperation is clear and present. The fear of losing is intense. Acting desperate is rarely successful; for example, watching professional sports team losing towards the end of the game. The chances are low. If all parties behave desperately, then one party should win. Time will tell afterwards. There is indefinite time to evaluate afterwards.

Personally speaking, I keep my senses open when I feel desperate. I pause. I assess. I remain calm. There are exceptions such as a sense of emergency my life is in danger. I remember past moments I was desperate. I connected the dots backwards. Time told me the unsuccessful percentage was high.

Bottle Water Researching Information What Is Correct And What Is Incorrect

The Information Age. Open a web browser to search. There is a plethora of information for *fill in the blank*. What is the correct information? What is the incorrect information? Some sources are borrowed from other sources. Some sources are stolen from other sources. Information are multiple full circles.

I research information on bottle water expiration dates. Is bottle water safe to drink after the expiration date? I post the websites I visited which includes the source, link, and date published if available. I copied and pasted the information directly from the websites relevant for me. The websites are sorted by date latest to earliest. The websites without a date are posted last sorted alphabetically.

My opinion on storing bottle water for emergencies is keep the bottle water in a cool and dry area free from all chemicals. The water is safe to drink beyond the expiration date.

Reader's Digest: Does Water Expire? Here's Why You Should Care by Brooke Nelson. Aug 23, 2022.
*Does water expire? Technically, bottled water does expire. The FDA doesn't actually mandate an expiration date on bottled water and says it's fine to drink bottled water past its expiration date if it's been stored properly.
*Does bottled water actually go bad? As it turns out, it isn't the water quality you should be worried about. It's the plastic that the water comes packaged in: usually polyethylene terephthalate (PET) for retail bottles and high-density polyethylene (HDPE) for water cooler jugs. So, technically, it's the bottle that goes bad, not the water.
*If your bottled water has been stored in a cool, dry place out of direct sunlight—no matter how long—it should be fine to drink.

Science ABC: Does Bottled Water Expire? Why Does It Go Bad? by Ashish. Jul 8, 2022.
*Water itself doesn't have any sugars or proteins on which microbes can feast, so there is no danger of water "rotting" in the traditional sense when kept out in an open space for a long time. However, when water is kept out in the open for an extended period of time, things do tend to change a bit. The carbon dioxide in the air comes in contact with the water and gradually, 0.13% of the water turns to carbonic acid. Some of the molecules of this newly formed carbonic acid may lose a proton or two, and thus cause the formation of carbonates and bicarbonates. In turn, this changes the pH of water towards the lower side, making it slightly acidic (low pH signifies an acidic nature). This is what causes that weird taste of water. This slight change in the pH of water is not likely to hurt you.
*The case of bottled water also experiences some aging effects over time. Packaged water has certain additives (like chlorine), which ensure that the microbes present in water do not multiply. However, after a few days, i.e., after the expiration date, the additives will stop working and will fail to check the rapid multiplication of microbes in water. This is why bottled water can also taste bad after the expiration date has passed.

Does It Go Bad: Does Water Go Bad? by Marcin Skrzypiec. Jun 1, 2022.
*You should store an unopened bottle of water in a cool and dry area. The pantry is probably the best choice, but a kitchen cabinet works too.
*If you're storing some tap water in case of emergency, use large bottles and change the water every month or so. It's not like it's going to spoil or anything, but tap water stored for a long time tends to taste quite bad.
*Putting a shelf life on bottled water is not required by the FDA. Many companies put a date on the label simply because people tend to trust food that comes with a date more. But as long as you handle the storage properly, the water should last pretty much indefinitely.
*Once you open the bottle, it's best to finish it within a few days. Over time it will absorb some carbon dioxide, and thus its taste will change.
*There usually aren't any clear signs that water is bad. If there are any contaminants or cloudiness, throw it out. Next, give it a good sniff and if it smells off, discard it.

Live Science: Do water bottles expire? by Karen Gordon. Apr 25, 2022.
*Bottled water does indeed come with an expiration date--even though the water itself doesn't go bad. The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA), which regulates bottled drinking water, doesn't legally require a shelf life on bottled water. But because plastic can begin leaching into bottled water over time, they generally have an expiration date of 2 years from the date of manufacture.
*The FDA has decided that there's no limit to the shelf life of bottled water, you may often see an expiry date on the bottle. But, does that mean water can go bad and "expire"? Well, yes and no. The water itself doesn't go bad, but after a while, chemicals from the plastic bottle may start to leak into the water and even affect its taste or smell.
*According to the International Bottled Water Association (IBWA), some companies still place date-based lot codes on bottles of water to help with managing stock rotation at distribution and retail points. This date-based lot code is also useful in detecting contamination, product recalls and bottling errors. The IBWA says that this date-based lot code isn't an expiration date, and can be helpful for consumers who can use these same date codes to ensure they consume the oldest product first.
*Never reuse a disposable bottle--frequent usage will cause a breakdown of the plastic, especially if washed at a high temperature.
*Invest in BPA-free plastic or a stainless-steel bottle.
*The IBWA says that it's important to store bottled water in a cool place out of direct sunlight and away from household chemicals and solvents to ensure quality.

US Food & Drug Administration or FDA. Current as of Apr 22, 2022.
*The FDA describes bottled water as water that's intended for human consumption and sealed in bottles or other containers with no added ingredients, except that it may contain safe and suitable antimicrobial agents. Fluoride may also be added within the limits set by the FDA.

Lipsey Water: HOW LONG DOES BOTTLED WATER LAST? Dec 15, 2020.
*DOES BOTTLED WATER GO BAD? The short answer is yes. Some people view the expiration dates on water bottles as just a guideline, or they think only paranoid people abide by such strict dates. But, believe it or not, the expiration dates on the plastic water bottles you buy DO matter.
*Unopened bottled water can last up to two years. Opened water bottles, however, can last a few weeks. Pure tap water usually expires after six months from the time it gets packaged.
*WHAT HAPPENS IF YOU DRINK BAD BOTTLED WATER? It's not the water that goes bad. It's the plastic in which it's stored. Generally, the plastic used for bottled water is polyethylene terephthalate (PET) or high-density polyethylene (HDPE) for water cooler jugs. Over time, these plastics will slowly dissolve into the water or, rather, will seep into the water. This process gets sped up if the water is exposed to heat, whether it's heat from the sun, engines, or even the heat from sitting in a hot garage or delivery truck.
*Health experts say that drinking expired water exposes the human body to reproductive issues, different types of cancer, and heavy damages to the immune system and can cause neurological problems. Overall, it's best to avoid expired drinking water altogether. And in some cases, health experts recommend not drinking from plastic bottles whatsoever.

Crystal Beverage Company: How Long Does An Unopened Bottled Water Last? Oct 28, 2020.
*DOES BOTTLED WATER REALLY EXPIRE? The United States, where almost all types of bottled water are branded with a "best before" or "use by" date or timestamp. However, this doesn't exactly mean that you can no longer drink the bottled water once it has reached past the expiry date. Water, as a matter of fact, doesn't really expire--especially when it's properly sealed and stored in a safe and secure location.
*So why do water bottles have an expiry date then? The first common reason is because of government-mandated policies that require manufacturers of all consumables. Another reason water bottle manufacturers want to indicate when the water may begin losing its fresh, natural taste. This is mostly the case for spring, mineral and other natural water flavors or products. Experts still recommend to always err on the side of caution and avoid drinking water from plastic bottles that have gone way past their expiration date. This is because the plastic material can begin leaching into the water content over time, resulting in a host of chemicals such as antimony and bisphenol A (BPA).
*Store water in a cool storage location and away from direct sunlight or any warm setting. Warmer temperatures can make the water go bad, aid bacterial growth and only heighten the release of harmful chemicals into the water.

Mountain Valley Spring Water: HOW LONG DOES BOTTLED WATER LAST? May 9, 2020.
*Does bottled water expire? In 2019, a water-contamination crisis in Newark, New Jersey led to area officials distributing bottles of water from their stored emergency supplies. One water crisis almost begat another water crisis: several of the stored bottles were older than the "best by" dates printed on them. The situation begged the question: Is it safe to drink "expired" water? The short answer, as Newark officials would learn, is yes.
*How do you safely store bottled water? High temperatures have been shown to affect the quality of water bottled in plastic. And, as storage temperatures rise, so do the risks. A 2007 study published in ScienceDirect found that plastic bottles of water stored at 150 degrees Fahrenheit showed levels of antimony, a potential carcinogen, higher than FDA limits after 38 days. At 167 degrees Fahrenheit, however, the water reached these levels after only five days. The International Bottled Water Association, or IBWA, advises storing bottled water in a cool place. If that cool place is away from sunlight, all the better.
*How long does bottled water last . . . after it's been opened? While closed bottles of water will likely be safe to drink for years on end, opening a bottle of water dramatically shortens its lifespan. Once a bottle of water is exposed to the elements--those in the air as well as those on and in the drinker's hands and mouths — all of the sanitation efforts that go into safely packaging that water no longer apply. Open bottles of water should be consumed as quickly as possible for the best freshness and purity.

Healthline: Does Water Expire? Jan 15, 2020.
*Though water itself doesn't expire, bottled water often has an expiration date. In 1987, New Jersey became the first and only U.S. state to pass a law requiring that all food products--including bottled water--have an expiration date of 2 years or less from the date of manufacture. When this law was passed, printing an expiration date became an industry standard for bottled water manufacturers across the country. However, this law was later changed, and no current legislation in the United States requires manufacturers to print an expiration date on bottled water.
*Still, it's generally not a good idea to drink water from plastic bottles that's way beyond its expiration date. This is because plastic can begin to leach into the water over time, contaminating it with chemicals, such as antimony and bisphenol A (BPA). If ingested regularly, these plastic compounds can slowly accumulate in your body, which could harm gut health, immunity, and respiratory function.
*Keeping bottled water in a cool place out of direct sunlight can help promote proper food safety and reduce your risk of negative health effects. Because plastic bottles are also slightly permeable, it's best to store bottled water away from household cleaning supplies and chemicals. If you notice that your water has developed an odd taste or odor, you should boil it before drinking or discard it.

Consumer Reports: Can You Drink Expired Bottled Water? by Ryan Felton. Aug 15, 2019.
*The FDA has determined there is no limit to the shelf life of bottled water, as long as it's "produced properly and is unopened."
*Antimony [is] a chemical in many plastic bottles, to be released into the water—if the bottle is exposed to high enough temperatures long enough. A silvery metal, antimony is a potential carcinogen that has been tied to lung and heart problems.
*"To our knowledge, there is no data with regard to increased shedding of plastics from water bottles due to the influence of time," Sheri Mason, Ph.D., sustainability coordinator at Penn State Behrend and a chemist who has studied the presence of plastic in tap water, beer, sea salt, and bottled water tells CR.

Taste Of Home: Bottled Water DOES Have an Expiration Date--and Here's Why by Brooke Nelson. Aug 13, 2019.
*It isn't the water quality you should be worried about; it's the plastic that the water comes packaged in (usually polyethylene terephthalate (PET) for retail bottles and high-density polyethylene (HDPE) for water cooler jugs). After a certain point in its life, the plastic can begin leaching into the liquid, which affects its taste and could create a serious health hazard. The porous plastic can also cause the water to accumulate odors and other accompaniments from outside.
*It's unlikely that an "expired" (but unopened) bottle of water will do you much harm. And here's why: the expiration dates are fairly arbitrary. The only reason they were put there in the first place was because of a 1987 New Jersey state law that required all food products to display an expiration date, according to Mental Floss. Since it wasn't very cost-effective to label and ship batches of expiration-dated water to one state alone, most bottled water producers just started giving every bottle a two-year sell-by date--no matter where it was going.

Delish: The Real Reason Water Bottles Have Expiration Dates by Danielle Jackson. Sep 6, 2017.
*Since water is a consumable product, it's required by law to have an expiration date printed on it just like milk, cheese, or eggs. That said, even though the water itself doesn't expire, the plastic bottle that it comes in does, and that can, in turn, cause chemicals from the bottle to leak into the water and affect its overall taste. So if you happen to find a water bottle well past its printed expiration date in your home, it's safe to drink but you should also be aware of the fact that it might not be super fresh anymore.
*Basically, these expiration dates are just a bunch of government regulations. So while you should check it to make sure it's gonna taste fresh, you can probably still relax and enjoy in most cases.

Insider: You should never drink bottled water after its expiration date--here's why by Holly Van Hare, The Daily Meal. Aug 1, 2017.
*How can water go bad? It can't. Water, like oxygen or steel or any other naturally occurring substance, is simply a chemical compound; it's ageless. However, humans have taken to storing natural-occurring water in plastic, artificial, flimsy containers, and the bottles can go bad. The plastic compounds can break down over time and leak into your water.
*There are ways to get around this. Firstly, you can boil your water before drinking it. This will effectually kill anything that's living inside. Secondly, the plastic compounds that can leak in might make your water taste funny, but they aren't usually inherently harmful for you to ingest.

Eldorado Natural Spring Water: Does Bottled Water Really Expire? Feb 8, 2017.
*The thing you really need to worry about when it comes to bottled water is the bottle itself. The plastic bottle is what actually expires, and this can really alter the flavor of the water it contains.
*A state law [in New Jersey in 1987] was passed which required any food or beverage (not including water) to be labeled with an expiration date that was two years from the package or bottling date. Bottling companies in New Jersey deemed it to be highly inefficient to date certain bottles and not others, (i.e. only dating soda bottles and requiring a separate assembly line for water bottles) so they started labeling all of the bottles with an expiration date exactly two years from the date they bottled the water. This law was eventually amended and no longer exists. However, labeling for expiration has become ingrained in the bottling process.
*What Really Expires? Most water is typically purified before it's bottled and sold, excluding of course natural spring waters which are pure in their natural forms and also won't expire. So it isn't the water that you need to worry about, it's the plastic the water comes in. Bottled water is packaged in polyethylene terephthalate (also known as PET) plastic and plastic water cooler jugs usually come in high-density polyethylene (HDPE). These plastics are slightly porous, which means that the water can pick up smells and tastes from outside the packaging. If you ever kept a case of bottled water down in your basement for an emergency, you may have cracked one of them open and tasted some interesting, dusty, musty flavors. The water inside the bottles is okay to drink, it just tastes terrible.
*As long as you're storing your water sealed and unopened like you would any other food or beverage, you're going to be fine. Water doesn't expire, and plastic doesn't expire, but the bottles the water is packaged in may affect the taste of your drinking water.

The Wall Street Journal: A Little Secret About Bottled Water by Andrea Petersen. Feb 11, 2004.
*Most commercially produced water comes stamped with expiration dates--typically within two years of when it was bottled.
*But does water really spoil? Despite the labels reminding consumers to drink up, there is virtually no evidence that drinking water beyond the expiration date has any health impact at all. The Food and Drug Administration considers bottled water to have an "indefinite shelf life." Even the bottled-water industry is hard-pressed to justify the labels.
*People who bottle their own tap water. Unsealed containers could allow bacteria or other contaminants into the water that could multiply, experts say. It's unclear, however, how many people take the time to fill milk jugs or soda bottles with tap water and store it as part of their disaster-supply kits.
*The fact that bottled water carries expiration dates can be blamed on New Jersey, the only state that officially requires it. That regulation dates back to 1987, though it's not completely clear what prompted it. The New Jersey Department of Health and Senior Services says only that: "The intent of the law was to protect the safety and quality of drinking water."
*The industry says that, given the New Jersey law, it's easier--and cheaper--for water companies to stamp dates on every bottle, whatever the destination, than to do it selectively.
*The taste of a bottle of water can shift slightly over time. One explanation, according to some, is that the minerals that either naturally occur in some bottled water or are added during manufacturing may settle. The result can be water that tastes stale.
*The type of bottle used can also be a factor in the taste. The cheaper kind of translucent plastic used for milk jugs and some gallon containers of water can eventually leach a plastic tinge into the water. (Most bottled water, however, is packaged in a higher grade of plastic that is much more resistant to leaching.)

Alkaline88: Does Bottled Water Go Bad?
*Does Bottled Water Go Bad Over Time? In short, no, bottled water doesn't "go bad." In fact, the FDA doesn't even require expiration dates on water bottles. Although water itself doesn't expire, the bottle it comes in can expire, in a sense. Over time, when exposed to excessive heat, chemicals from the plastic bottle can begin to leak into the water it holds. And when you drink that water, chemicals like BPA can make their way into your system and may have severe health implications. That's why it's important to drink water from BPA-free bottles.
*It is recommended to finish opened bottled water within 2 days of opening. Once exposed to air, the water is likely still good to drink but develops off-taste to some people.
*If you're storing packed bottled water for longer periods of time, storing it properly may help make it safer to drink even after two years or even after the expiration date. Keep bottled water in cool and dry location away from direct sunlight.
*The Best Way To Store Bottled Water. The way you store your water bottles matters. According to the CDC, the best way to store water in containers (like bottles or jugs) is to keep it in a place with a cool temperature, like 50-70° F. It should be kept from direct sunlight and never stored in places where toxic substances (think gasoline or pesticides) are present. If you plan on storing these for a long time, it is recommended to put the date on them, so you know how long they've been stored. In conclusion, drinking water can be enjoyed even after its "expiration date" in BPA-free plastic and even longer in aluminum.

Bubi Bottle: Shelf life for bottled water. Does bottled water expire?
*Water itself has no expiration date. Since water is a natural substance, it has an indefinite shelf life. The Food and Drug Administration, which regulates the bottled water industry, does not require a shelf life for bottled water. That means if bottled water is appropriately stored, it fits for an indefinite amount of time. However, the recommended shelf life for still water is two years, and sparkling water is one year. It's all because some chemicals from the plastic bottle can get into the water, affecting the taste and water quality.
*Never store water in an unairconditioned storage space like a garage or shed. Cool weather helps to save water. Choose a cool, dry, covered location to store your water bottles correctly. We also suggest to don't store water on a shelf with chemicals.
*Bottled water should be colorless and odorless. If you sense an odor, observe a musty or metallic taste, observe a foam or a color of green or blue[.] It means that dirt, bacteria, or rust has seeped into the bottle.

Crystal Geyser Frequently Asked Questions
*Q: Does BPA leach from your Crystal Geyser Alpine Spring Water into the water? A: Not only are our bottles 100% BPA free, there is absolutely no connection between PET or rPET plastic and BPA. Customarily, BPA is used to make polycarbonate, a completely different plastic not related to PET or rPET. Polycarbonate is not used in the production of PET or rPET material, nor is it used as a chemical building block for any of the materials used in our manufacturing. There is absolutely no risk of BPA leaching into our product.
*Q: Do chemicals leach from your Crystal Geyser Alpine Spring Water if the bottles are stored in the sun or in a hot car? A: No. Claims that plastic bottled water containers stored in warm environments (e.g. a hot automobile) 'leach' chemicals are not true, and have no basis in science. Our plastic bottled water containers (both PET and rPET) are not only approved by the FDA, they're commonly used by many other companies precisely because they are safe, recyclable and durable for use in the food and beverage industry.
*Q: Do cancer causing chemicals like phthalates leach from Crystal Geyser Alpine Spring Water bottles into the water? A: Phthalates are a class of chemicals that include three subsets, each with different properties. Orthophthalate is the phthalate subset most commonly referenced and discussed, as it is also called a "plasticizer," meaning it is often used to make various plastics more flexible. The PET and rPET we utilize do not contain plasticizers or orthophthalates.
*Q: How long can I store my Crystal Geyser Alpine Spring Water? A: Crystal Geyser Alpine Spring Water can safely be stored for several years. However, since we recognize that consumer storage conditions vary greatly, we recommend that consumers use the product before the 'sell by' date expires (which is two years after production). The 'sell by' date is easily found on the neck of every bottle above the top of the label. Our products are best stored in a cool, odor-free, dry environment, and should be stored away from all cleaning products and household chemicals. For more information, please contact our Consumer Services Department (1-833-276-9263).

Heart Water: Does Bottled Water Go Bad?
*Should you be concerned? The short answer to this question is: no.
*While you do not need to be concerned about drinking spoiled water, you need to know why bottled water has expiration dates to understand the implications of drinking expired water. As it turns out, it's not the actual water quality you need to be worried about, it's the plastic that the water is contained in. Typically water is bottled in polyethylene terephthalate (PET) for retail bottles and high-density polyethylene (HDPE) for water cooler jugs. What's alarming about these types of bottles is that plastics contaminant the liquid bottle once expired or exposed to excessive heat, including exposure to sunlight or hot cars. The toxic chemicals that are contained in this plastic will enter the water, not only affecting the taste of the water but also creating serious health implications for the consumer, as well.
*Many bottled water companies will print a two year expiration date on the bottle, although there's really no precise way to predict exactly when the plastic will leach into the water. The two year expiration date is more of guess of when the water bottle is most likely to have been exposed to heat or when it's starting to degrade, however, the unfortunate reality is that most water bottles are exposed to excessive heat within days of being purchased, especially if it was purchased in the summertime.
*Does bottled water go bad? Water is a natural substance and does not go bad, however the plastic water bottle will degrade over time and begin to leach chemicals into the water, which is why it is always important to choose BPA free bottled water.
*Can you tell if bottled water is bad? Plastic water bottles are slightly permeable, and can leach chemicals into the water over time. This is particularly a problem in non-bpa free plastic and water bottled in milk jug plastic. If your water has a strange taste or smell we recommend you discard it.
